7/16/22: I'm confused. Is this Smallcakes or nah? The inside of their cupcake box has the same polka dot design, but the cupcakes look different. Finding this place was like going on a scavenger hunt. All you see is an UPS industrial area. You'd never find it unless you call them. Drive into the UPS parking lot, go over the speed bumps, and you will end up at a white building where they will come out and take your payment for the cupcakes. You can call them to order over the phone or go online. Their online portal didn't work for me though. Anyway, we ordered 2 pink chocolates & 1 lemon. The chocolate cake left a weird taste in my mouth, but my son loved the lemon. The chocolate cake was a bit dry too. I did like their cute little touch on the packaging with the ribbon around the plastic bag & the thank you sticker. The customer service needs a little work because the lady taking the order and the payment wasn't very friendly. We went around 3:30 pm, so maybe she was ready to get off work. Who knows? I think I will go back if I don't feel like driving far for a cupcake. Otherwise, I'm going to the real Smallcakes. read more

I almost hate to leave a review here because it has quickly become my favorite go-to lunch spot. Not only does Smallcakes have delicious, tasty, mouth-watering cupcakes but they also offer great deals on lunch items. I can come here for lunch for less than $7 and get either a salad or a sandwich along with my choice of a side and a drink. The atmosphere is right up my alley. The seating area is small but brightly-lit and clean with cheery colors. They've also added a small outdoor seating area as well. As for customer service, I have only seen one person in this venue and I believe she is the owner. She quickly remembers your preferences. For instance, during my first visit I ordered a sandwich on rye bread. This visit I ordered a different sandwich but forgot to tell her what type of bread to put it on. When she walked my order to my table she had remembered to put it on rye bread, which made me feel so special. So now you see why I would love to keep this treasure all to myself read more

We stumbled across Smallcakes Cupcakery after our visit to Pullen Park on a beautiful Friday afternoon. The sales associate was really nice and inviting. She answered all of our questions about their shop and products. They had a nice frozen yogurt bar with a variety of flavors and toppings. The cupcakes were larger than most that Ive experienced which was a nice surprise. They were almost kinda cake like. They were nice and fluffy with just the right amount of icing. We had the Lemon Drop cupcake which had a nice shot of lemon flavoring in the center. We also had the Pink Vanilla cupcake that was very flavorful and enjoyable. The shop was clean, sanitized with all products properly covered. The sales associate was wearing a mask as well as gloves. Hand sanitizer was available. The outside tables were clean and welcoming. FreshBerry offers several flavors of frozen yogurt and toppings that you can find at typical frozen yogurt shops. They also offer other desserts, smoothies, and some cafe-style food. I might eventually try these other offerings. This review focuses on the frozen yogurt. To keep it short and simple, those who had good frozen yogurt will be highly disappointed by FreshBerry. FreshBerry's yogurt just isn't berry good, unlike their vastly superior cousin, Pinkberry. Even those who have not had the crazy awesome froyo at food meccas should look elsewhere for frozen yogurt. Cute bakery located in downtown Raleigh. I love that they have non dairy frozen ice-cream options, coupled with such a large array of fresh toppings. I serious could just grab a bowl of fresh fruit and been content. And they also blend fresh fruit smoothies. Ordered delivery and my croissant club had a good flavor but nothing special. Both my cupcakes were bigger than expected which was good and fresh and not too sweet. NOW THE SMOOTHIE... I am all about saving the environment but unwrapped paper straws are not going to cut it. It made my strawberry/banana smoothie taste NASTY and I almost threw that $7.50 item away. Luckily I had a plastic straw and my smoothy turned into deliciousness! Glad I had a coupon which made one of my cupcakes free because this place adds up quickly and each item is very costly! read more

I first discovered this froyo joint last summer, and I've since spent a lot of time (at least a dozen) here with friends sitting outside watching the people go by on Hillsborough Street. I pretty much always get the tart and raspberry flavors here. Their toppings are fresh, and I typically go for their berries because they are really tasty. The soundtrack here is fun (if repetitive... I'm sure it slowly drives the employees insane). It includes some 90s throwbacks and early 2000 jams I haven't heard in a long while. One downside is you cannot get a cup of water. I have seriously gone into the bathroom before to fill up my empty yogurt cup with tap water from the sink. Another downside is the parking situation. It can be a little difficult to find a space close to the storefront, but I've never not found one. read more

Love it, love it. One of the better tasting self-serve yogurt concepts currently out there. While I tend to stick with my mainstay selections of both yogurt and toppings (boring, I know), I have noticed that there is very little variation in offerings here. In other competing shops around the country, I notice a more active turning over of flavors. Freshberry's should mix it up a bit more to prompt greater return traffic. They also stopped offering samples a few months ago because some patrons were abusing the practice. I suggest reinstating sampling to avoid 'punishing' the many for the sins of the few. Patrons are less likely to try something new if they can't sample it first. Just sayin'....... Update: it seems as if there is still very little rotation in the yogurt flavors offered, which gets me leaning toward a 3-star rating. I don't care to get sandwiches or cupcakes here; so, if things don't change I am going to have to downgrade Freshberry's a little bit. read more

Great froyo place - all the flavors that I got were solid, and my favorite was a combination of the clementine and vanilla mousse, which tasted EXACTLY like a creamy orangesicle...yum. Toppings are decent as well. The place is somewhat small and as a result carries fewer variety of flavors and toppings than I'm used to with larger froyo places, but overall a solid place to sit down and enjoy some froyo after visiting the restaurants nearby. read more

Cute little date spot right off Hillsborough street. The staff is super nice and keep the toppings bar extremely neat and tidy! My only beef with this place is their lack of fresh fruit toppings... I would have loved to see a little higher quality toppings within their selection instead of mostly candy and cereal products. The frozen yogurt is of good quality. Small cute shop. I love the colors of the shop. I was a little disappointed with my overall experience. During my lunch I stopped in to grab a Strawberry Mango smoothie.The server did not know what a mango was. She literally came out and asked " is this it?". Once upon a time, last Thursday in the middle of this crazy oppressive heat wave, my boyfriend and I parked on the other other side of Pullen Park and walked to the Hillsborough Street side of NC State campus to watch an outdoor movie, because that's probably a wise thing to do in this climate. When we arrived, I was thirsty, and ventured down Hillsborough in search of a smoothie and an ice water. Freshberry delivered on the smoothie part. Tart frozen yogurt mixed with noticeably fresh strawberries and blueberries. Absolutely no complaints. But when I asked if I could get a cup of water, I was told that they only had bottled water. For real? It's 100+ degrees in North Carolina, and your location is across from a campus fraught with students walking from destination to destination. I didn't think it was too much to ask for a plastic cup of tap water after purchasing a $5 smoothie. Just something to consider, Freshberry. read more

I love the variety of toppings (Cap'n Crunch, Cap'n Crunchberries, chocolate chip cookie pieces, brownie pieces, sauces, actual marshmallows, several kinds of nuts, white chocolate chips, gummy bears, fresh fruit, and more, and more, and more), which they keep so full that each topping bin is a veritable mound. I would like hot fudge though, and not a thing of that yucky Hershey's syrup. ;( The yogurt isn't as creamy and rich as I'd like, but what I do love is that their restaurant is EXCEPTIONALLY tidy. However, they shouldn't keep the toppings *quite* so full, in my opinion, just because it's literally impossible to get any out without making a huge mess. The girls who were working each time I went didn't seem to mind constantly tidying, however, and they was doing a whooooole lot of cleaning all while we were there. Sample cups are hidden, so you must ask for those. There is only one size of yogurt cup... which makes people like me want to fill it up to the tippy top. Not recommended unless you want to be 9,000 lbs. ** The yogurt is also priced by weight... so be careful with overloading those cups! The menu is HORRIBLY designed -- it uses some fancy and pretty fonts, but you absolutely cannot read it easily... and don't even notice that it's a menu! The pricing also isn't clear, due to the horribly cluttered menu design. The flavors, to me, were just "alright"; I actually like Goodberry's flavors (and creaminess) better, but of course that's frozen custard and NOT frozen yogurt. So irrelevant, really. Sorry about that. I'd like to go back here and try the cupcakes. Some of them are only $1.50, or $2, or something super cheap on a couple days of the week, and I am ALL ABOUT that cupcake life. I visited this froyo shop maybe around 10 times last summer, when I found myself a summer student at NC State. A pretty typical froyo place, with the regular offerings of flavors and toppings. The flavors rotate, and the toppings are varied and plenty: fruits, baked goods, chocolates and candies, mochi...I didn't note much during my time there... BUT If you plan on frequenting this place regularly(as I did), ASK FOR A CARD. I don't know what they call it, but it's a simple rewards card that you hand over each time you make a purchase, and once you reach 25 or 30 dollars or something (don't quote me on this, I don't remember the amount!) you get a free treat. Came here for the frozen yogurt and was happy with what I got. It's hard for me to really tell the difference between all of the different frozen yogurt places as they all taste pretty similar to me. It was really good though and they had a lot of options for toppings. I got strawberry and a little of the original tart and they were a good consistency and tasty. The staff was very helpful in setting us up with a rewards card and actually did it for us while we were eating outside and delivered it to us personally. The outdoor seating is nice for a warm sunny day. This was also very reasonably priced, I will be back here. read more

As far as I'm concerned this yogurt shop is almost as "good as it gets" except it doesn't have hot fudge. Instead there is a bottle of Hershey's syrup sitting off to the side as an afterthought. But other than that the yogurt is deliciously creamy and the toppings plentiful and the topping bar is clean. The fruit looked fresh but I'm more of the lets get the low calorie yogurt so I can negate it by adding all sorts of sweet, processed toppings!! And i enjoyed every last bite. read more

I admit that I can't review this personally for their frozen yogurt because I went with my co-workers and two got froyo and two got cupcakes. I didn't hear any complaints on the froyo but the cupcakes, c'mon guys for $3 I could make about two dozen of what you are selling. The cake part of the cupcake (chocolate creme cupcake) definitely tasted like it was devils food cake out of the box and the frosting was most definitely out of a can put into a fancy bag to make the frosting look pretty on the cupcake. I took a bite and then asked my co-worker to try hers and let me know what she thought. Without saying a word we both thought the same thing. I the cupcakes here!! The Pink Vanilla tastes like a dream. I also love the Birthday Cake, the Stuffed French Toast, and the Fat Elvis cupcakes. This is one of the better yogurt shop I have been to in Raleigh. Very clean and great location downtown. I was out for a bike ride during the summer and needed to cool off and eat something lite. I had the turkey sandwich combo with chips and salsa. Never would've thought this would be good but I was surprised the bread and meat had a very good taste. I imagined a cheap low quality taste from a yogurt shop making sandwiches but not at all. After my sandwich the yogurt and what a treat the flavors and toppings were great. I've been to other places in Raleigh and I was impressed by fresh berry and their setup of flavors and toppings to go with. The cupcakes look like they've been sitting under a heat lamp all day. The icing was sliding off the top of all of the red velvet cupcakes. Ordered the bubble tea, which comes in about 15 flavors. We ordered the black tea and Thai tea, and they were both terrible. The black tea had a sort of medicinal finish, and the Thai tea tasted like milk with sugar in it... It was vaguely orange, but that was the closest it got to being Thai tea. But perhaps worst of all -- the tapioca balls weren't fully cooked either ...
