The Basil Blue ice cream sammy has blueberry ice cream between two basil cake cookies and half dipped in white chocolate. It was messy but worth it! I loved this flavor combination and can't wait to try more. There are so many more pastries and desserts I want to try. The service was fantastic. There is no seating inside. I went to Mokaya recently to finally try their desserts! I had seen so many of their posts throughout social media for YEARS. I decided to stop in and was completely blown away. I personally don't eat many chocolates, bonbons, truffles, or similar products so I was elated to find out that they had tons of baked goods and other options. The staff was extremely patient, knowledgable, and helpful while I took forever to figure out what I wanted. Everything in the store is not only beautiful to look at but also delicious. I ended up getting 3 of the Valentine's Day themed baked goods: chocolate fudge cake, whoopie pie, and brownie. I was expecting the desserts to be extremely rich and dense but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the desserts weren't too sweet nor too dense. The brownie was really fudgey and thicker than many I've had, but had so much flavor. The whoopie pie was something totally new to me and it was so fun and yummy! The cake was delicious and I felt so bad eating it. But I did buy it because it was a way to show love to myself for the holiday. I highly recommend going to Mokaya! I plan on going back to try the rest of their baked goods and I can't wait for it to be warmer to try some of their ice cream. read more

Wow delish! You walk into Mokaya and instantly feel like you are at Willy wonkas chocolate factory. Seriously, I need that scent in a candle. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful! The carrot cake was amazing- we are carrot cake lovers and this definitely tops the list. Perfectly moist cake layers. I've never had a toffee like crunch on top, but it was a welcome surprise. The cookie cheese cake at first felt a bit too one- textured, but we realized we were not getting the crunchy cookie crust and this definitely changed our minds. The caramel is light and adds an extra layer to this dessert. So far, we have only tried the Himalayan salt caramel (AMAZING, if you love caramel, you need this), turtle (so cute, exactly what you'd expect), but we can't wait to try the rest! read more

Subjective: Stumbled upon this unassuming shop while walking around Eastown last year and have been such a big fan I've been trying to be a regular ever since. The shop itself is small- no seating inside and limited seating outdoors- and filled to the brim with a variety of sweet treats. This place has been on my list since I moved to Grand Rapids a couple years back and I'm so glad I finally had a good reason to go check it out! My mom was coming into town for her birthday and I immediately knew I wanted to get her some treats from here! I placed an order online through their website around 3 in the afternoon and went to pick it up around 5! Super easy and smooth process. I ordered an assorted box of chocolates which comes with bonbons and truffles. Literally so beautiful!! Very impressed. I also ordered a birthday cake. They have "mini" cakes for $10 and it's the perfect size for 2 people (or just for yourself) and was super tasty. They have a couple different chocolate bars to choose from and I picked out a coffee dark chocolate one for my mom as well. Of course I had to get a snack for myself so I went for the Whoopie Pie. If you are looking for local quality chocolate goodies, Mokaya is the place to visit! I received a box of Mokaya chocolates as a gift earlier this year, and loved them. Eating the chocolate made me want to go to the physical location to take a look (and if you want to look, keep in mind that they are closed on Monday and Sunday). Mokaya changes up their chocolates, which makes it fun. The shop was small and intimate, but there was plenty to see. They had so many different assortments of chocolates. My favorite were the ones that were shaped as cobblestones (as you can see in the pictures), turtles, and frogs. Everything is made by hand in Grand Rapids. The flavors are so unique - the time I went there, there were chocolate goodies like like raspberry caramel, white chocolate vanilla latte truffles, dark chocolate coconut truffles, cherry key lime bonbon, etc. The coatings to some of the chocolates were so beautifully colored. The salespeople even let me try a sample of their spicy dark chocolate (that was in a shape of a lip), which was so good. The spiciness kicked in but was not overwhelming. I could still taste the dark chocolate flavor. Their chocolate is rich and not too sweet. Each chocolate is perfectly sized so it won't feel too thick. You can pick and choose chocolates and they will put it into a cute box that has dividers inside. You have the option to create the following truffle boxes: 2-piece box ($6.00) 4-piece box ($12.00) 6-piece box ($17.00) 12-piece box ($34.00) It is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. The inside was a mix of creamy peanut butter with peanut butter crumbles. It was so rich in texture and flavor. The outside chocolate shell was just as delicious. My friend gave me a gift card to Mokaya for my birthday this year, so I stopped in recently. It's a little overwhelming because they have so many delicious looking things! The owner was there and he was super helpful - he gave lots of great recommendations and told me which were his favorites. I got a six piece bon bon and an ice cream sandwich. The bon bons are all so beautiful - like works of art and just as delicious as they are pretty! I was really impressed. The ice cream sandwiches are offered seasonally and I honestly didn't even know they had them - I got the basic B to try - brown butter chocolate chunk cookies with vanilla bean ice cream, dipped in dark chocolate. It was so good! The flavors may be "basic" but this ice cream sandwich is anything but - high quality ingredients and perfect textures make it a 10/10 for me. I actually went back inside after enjoying my sandwich and bought the Cardi B for Nate. I didn't think i'd like it as much because I'm not a huge fan of snickerdoodles or coffee, but it was AMAZING. The toffee flavor is a little strong but I loved it. I even went back a couple weeks later and bought more ice cream sandwiches - the John Lemon is fruity and delicious, with raspberry preserves and meringue in the filling. I thought it would be overly sweet, but it was definitely perfection. It's my favorite of the ones I've tried! I highly recommend Mokaya for all your chocolate needs. My friend got this little box of chocolate truffles for me as a gift! It was absolutely adorable and so delicious. It's nicely packaged and comes with a brochure to tell you what flavor everything is. The color of the truffles didn't match the picture exactly but figured out that it was the white chocolate ginger lime truffle and dark chocolate orange passion fruit truffle. Both were wonderful! It was just a small enough bite that satisfied your chocolate craving but now I definitely want to go back and try even more! My family simply can't get enough Mokaya in our lives. It's our go-to for any celebrations that include exquisite, delicious desserts, as well as a great spot for gifts for chocolate lovers. On this chilly day in late December, we happily waited in line soon after opening to ensure that we'd be able to get our favorites. They tend to sell out quickly around the holidays! As always, each of our selections was absolutely delicious and looked beautiful on the serving platter (pictured). Here's what we chose: - Chocolate Fudge Cake (dark chocolate fudge cake covered in chocolate ganache topped with vanilla bean buttercream and garnished with pieces of dark chocolate), a big hit with several family members. Chocolate Tart (Ecuadorian dark chocolate center with toasted Italian meringue), fabulous every time. Lemon Tart (lemon curd center with Italian meringue), delicious and affectionately referred to as a "palate cleanser" in our family. Carrot Cake (layered thin bourbon carrot cake, milk chocolate walnut praline feuilletine, thin carrot cake, cream cheese mousse, vanilla ganache glaze, and cream cheese icing), unlike any traditional carrot cake, but very creative and delicious. Even the die-hard chocoholics in our family came back for seconds. Crème Brûlée (vanilla bean crème brûlée with caramelized sugar top), a classic forever family favorite. Since we were chilled from waiting outside, we ordered a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate (house-made hot chocolate mixed with salted caramel, and topped with salted caramel) to warm up - and it was DELICIOUS! Finally, our visit also included house-made truffles, bonbons, and a cocoa bomb to give as gifts. They're always a big hit with our recipients and are each a piece of art. In addition to their fabulous products, the staff could not be more wonderful to work with. What can I say other than amazing chocolates! I was able to meet the general manager Max Golczynski, who is often in the store. The chocolates are a bit more expensive than your average chocolate purchases but for obvious reasons. They have numerous flavors and pastries for you to choose from. I couldn't believe all the different options, one of my favorite ones to try was Yuzu Lemongrass as Yuzu is my favorite type of citrus fruit. They have vegan options, wine truffle flights, and beer truffle flights. I couldn't decide so I just got a sampler and tried their mint patties. Obviously everything tastes homemade and is made with fresh ingredients. No corners are cut here. My only regret is eating almost all of the chocolates I got and forgetting to take a photo! They also have a cute little seating area in the back room, so you can enjoy your time there or get some to take home. I will 100% be coming back if I ever want to get special chocolates for my girlfriend, or a special occasion. Something that is also very sweet is they give you a little pamphlet of all the different truffles they sell, so you won't forget which one is which! Fantastic. These chocolates are extremely beautiful and delish. They make THEE best gifts. I recently stopped by for year end teacher gifts (and we've also purchased for bdays and welcome gifts). We got small boxes of 4 chocolates for $11 each. They come in pre-stamped paper boxes with ribbon tied - super cute. The designed are vibrant and unique. They also sell bags of other treats like bark as well as chocolate bars and some other dessert counter items. I also saw they have soft serve and ice cream coolers. They have street parking (meters) and are located just next door to Rowsters. There is some seating available as well if you want to sit and enjoy your treats there. I was ecstatic that I was able to drive out west to visit this chocolate boutique shop. They definitely did not disappoint with their chocolate selection and the exceptional customer experience! Due to the holidays, they had some special hot cocoa bundles and orders where locals would order boxes of chocolates as gifts. It was really amazing to see how locals knew immediately what they needed to order! Their chocolate really stands out because of the unique flavors and the stunning presentation of each truffle piece. You will find flavors like orange blossom cardamom, strawberry lemonade balsamic caramel, and vanilla latte truffle. I topped that off with a Mexican hot cocoa and it was so delicious- decadent hot cocoa with a kick from the chili. Def warmed me up before heading back out in the cold. Came across this business on Instagram and thought I'd give it a try. I ordered through their website, which was so great because it was actually up to date with the in-store selection. Some of the items said Out of Stock, so I kind of trusted that what I was ordering would be in stock. Ordering was easy, I selected Curbside Pickup, and they sent me a very nice email letting me know it was ready. I called from my car when I arrived and they put it outside the door on a table, so it was 100% contactless! Then of course, everything we ordered was to die for. We got the chocolate fudge cake, chocolate cream dulce de leche, and the Italian meringue. The first two were very rich but that's what we like! So to start off I wanna say, this is NOT cheap candy. I was was a bit taken back by the price for a dozen of truffles, but I thought, what the heck, why not... So I got a dozen of truffles and a creme brûlée and a pot de creme I believe. Everything is truly beautifully made and the creme brûlée was AMAZING!!! If I don't go back for the truffles, I will definitely make the trip for the creme brûlée. It was perfection, that's how much I loved it. My sister in law got the hot chocolate and she said it was really good, you can taste that it's made with REAL chocolate and not cheap watered down chocolate. (If that makes sense) The store was very simple and cute. And service was warm and welcoming. It's nice to have a shop like this near by. What a cute and beautifully laid out, yet minimalist space! I have been meaning to stop in here for some time now, but my lack of self-control has kept me away! This morning I decided to stop in after having brunch at Winchester knowing my stomach wouldn't control my inner deepest chocolate desires. We were greeted with a warm welcome, who I later found out was the owner and chocolatier. He gave us a tour, walked us through all the options and was extremely helpful with a great sense or positive energy and sense of humor. All of the truffles are showcased in amazing shapes and colors fitting perfectly to their name.
