Stopped in for an ice cream treat while on vacation and it did not disappoint. I got the chocolate salted carmel in a waffle cone and it was perfect. My Husband got some kind of mud and he really enjoyed it. No pictures bc it was just too good and was gone before I even thought to take any. Kilwins Candy shop has a fabulous variety of sweets to include ice cream. The Carmel dipped apple with milk chocolate and sea salt was to die for!! We he Granny Smith apples are extremely crisp and fresh without a single blemish. The Carmel is a sugar sweet that is not over powering. The extra dip of milk chocolate and sea salt adds the perfect combination of sweet and salty flavors. There is a lot of dipped apples to choose from which makes it a very hard choice. The staff will slice it for you which makes it so much easier to eat! We also tried the cashew Carmel milk chocolate patty. Soooooo gooood! I didn't want to share!! Kilwin's is our favorite fudge and ice cream shop. Especially when we are on a road trip. So we made a stop here in Key West. We got the milk chocolate with walnuts, the white chocolate with walnuts and the plain milk chocolate. My daughter wanted a Caramel Apple also since Halloween is so close. Delicious! A great place to grab a sweet treat while exploring Key West. When you walk inside, you can smell the fresh fudge. There are so many kinds. Their most popular according to the cashier was the Turtle Fudge. We got to sample it and it was delicious, filled with chocolately caramelly goodness. Fudge, ice cream, apple on sticks with all types of ooey, gooey confection...I'm on board for all of that. Alas, I settled on the glazed cashews this time and as usual, they were fresh and delicious. I am a fan of Kilwins chain and I especially like this location since it was close to where i usually stay in Key West making it perfect for a sweet nightcap to my evening. I like the various ice cream flavors here with the Cappuccino Chocolate Chip being one of my favorites. Toasted Coconut and Cinnamon Crumb Cake are also stand outs. Although Kilwins is a chain many of the items are "store made" and since it is a chain you can expect a bit of consistency so if you find a favorite in your home state chances are you will find it the same here as well. You also have to admire a chain that can take a less than 5 cent oreo or nutter butter, cover it in about 10 cents worth of chocolate and make you pay more than 10x the amount - yeah, they are that good! read more

A vacation with my wife means as much sugar as possible. I need sugar to keep up with her frantic tourist pace. Late into the night we wandered in for a sugar fix. The employee behind the counter asked me what I was looking for and I said I like peanut butter. He led me to the Nutter Butter covered in milk chocolate. The chocolate was thick but not too overpowering. I don't really like chocolate but it was a good enough portion to provide a bit of flavoring but let the peanut butter nutter butter shine through. For the cost however it was a tad elevated. I recognize the time it took to temper the chocolate and coat the cookie but wow... expensive. If I need a sweet treat this is a no brainer stop but I will expect to take a pocketbook hit in order to obtain my sugar high. read more

I recommend the chocolate peanut butter with salted caramel, half/half! I thought the Penn State ice cream was my top pick for ice cream but this place knocked them out an inch. The candied-chocolate caramel apple were sweet, as expected, but the sourness of the green apple give it a good balance. The place was packed and I can see why-- they do give out samples of the different varieties of their fudge. I am never one to turn down ice cream. You don't get a baby keg like mine by doing sit-ups! So, as I wandered Duval Street looking for sustenance, I could have stopped for a meal. I could have picked up a juice/smoothie. I could have. Or, I could have followed the smell of waffle cones and chocolate and enter into an ice cream palace. In case you can't figure out which review you're reading, I did the latter. The storefront is big, open and full of ice cream, chocolate and goodies. It wasn't too full of customers on the Sunday afternoon on which I visited which is why it was so perplexing that the young man working there would rather stand behind the counter (on the right as you walked in) than wait on me. Even a direct address ("Hi. Do you work here?") couldn't nudge him to be bothered to take my money. I was on my way out of the store when a woman came from the back to help me. She was quite sweet... but very new. When I asked for a couple of items, she didn't know how to make them and needed to consult the manual. Rather than wait any longer for what was supposed to be a spontaneous venture, I decided on the Turtle Sundae. Easy. Everyone knows what a Turtle Sundae is and Kilwin's is no different. For the sundae, I had the owner jump in to make mine. We had some nice conversation, talked about out mutual history with Tennessee and about ice cream, in general. Quite pleasant. The sundae itself looked great, although I would have preferred a little more heft to it. Once you got past the whipped cream, there wasn't much there. What was in abundance, however, was the sticker shock. $9.35 for a Turtle Sundae! For that price, I would expect it to sprout legs and lead me to a pot of gold. It was good ice cream... but not $9.35. I think this was the universe's way of telling me to start working out. read more

They have a little observation area where you can see the employees make fresh fudge. They have many fudge flavors on displays and you are able to try as many as you like. I thought the Peruvian Fudge that has authentic Peruvian cocoa in it was pretty good as well as the unique flavors of the Key Lime Fudge. These two are a must try! Absolutely amazingly tasty ice cream and in house made waffle cones! I had the black walnut ice cream and it was rich with lots of walnuts.
