Stopped in for ice cream with the family. This old world candy and ice cream vibe shop was a great choice. Huge selection of ice cream flavors, chocolates, cookies and more. We were served right away. I had the Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream in a waffle cone and it was very good. They are kinda pricy but good quality. read more

I have a family of 4 (two adults and two children). We each had a single scoop in a dish. The bill was over $30 ($7.00 per scoop). In addition to that, they did not have bathrooms and made you go out the back door and walk a block to the city square public bathrooms. How is that even allowed by the Michigan restaurant codes? The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is that the ice cream is actually pretty good, but everything else is better down the street. read more

I've been to a Kilwins in three different states, and all of them have been very good. This Kilwins in Ludington is no exception! I forget that Kilwins is a chain, because it always feels like a small local joint. We had a party of six looking for some sweets, and more than half of us chose ice cream. Kilwins offers kid favorites like Superman, but also flavors like Mackinac Island Fudge and cappuccino. You can get it in a cup or a cone, and they have kid scoops, too. Ice cream is not my jam, but chocolate is, so I got a variety of different chocolate-covered things, like a chocolate-covered s'more, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-covered graham crackers and a chocolate turtle. I like chocolate a lot. There are a lot of different chocolate things here. They also make their own fudge, and if you're lucky and visit at the right time, you can watch them as they're mixing it on a big table. There isn't any seating inside Kilwins, so you'll need to take your treats to go. There are two entrances here, so we exited at the back and ate our desserts in the alley like a bunch of hoodlums. Maybe just an off day but the fudge, all three pieces of different flavors, was dry, hard, and crumbly. Since this is supposed to be the only "real" fudge shop in Ludington I expected good fudge. Don't mess with a Michigander on vacation when it comes to fudge. Do better! read more

I went to Kilwins for an ice cream with my 3 yr old grandson. When we went to sit on the bench outside the store, his cone was melting faster than he could eat it. I went back inside to ask for a cup to hold the cone. I was told I would need to BUY a cup. Seriously? I just bought 2 ice cream cones! I bought 4 ice cream cones the day before. I am torn on this one. My family had ice cream that they really enjoyed and I opted for a caramel apple with chocolate and pecans and it was surprisingly bland. The apple was not tart at all. Definitely not worth $9. My spouse loves the dark chocolate coconut clusters he got and we also got some seafoam that isn't too bad. I did really like the chocolate coconut shortbread cookie. All in all it's not a place that I would personally crave, nor is it worth the price. I will say that the people working there were friendly and helpful. read more

This is the quintessential Michigan tourist trap confectionary spot. There seems to be one in every Michigan beach town, and I feel like I've been to all of them by now. Their dipped chocolates and other treats skew a bit pricey but are good and largely made in house. (If you're lucky you'll see them dipping apples in caramel as you walk by.) Let's be honest though. The reason you come here is for their ice cream and fudge. The fudge stands up amongst the best fudge I've had in the state, which says a lot. Easily the best fudge in this town. Ice cream is a fiercely competitive sport in Ludington, but I'd argue their selection is nearly as broad and every bit as good as the spot with an hour-long wait a few blocks down. And once you've tried either, you'll know you can stop by for the same quality in Petoskey, Grand Rapids or Traverse City as well! read more

I agree with a prior review about expensive ice cream, not friendly service, and obscenely expensive chocolate. $32/lb on some stuff??!! House of Flavors was beyond packed, and this place has six people ahead of us in line. Must be a reason for it. Seems like Kilwins is always just a tourist trap in every location I've seen it in. Too bad. I'd give it another start if it wasn't so crazy expensive - 33% more than HoF's, although I can't comment on HoF's quality or portions - didn't have a half hour to wait in line! read more

I would almost always give this place a 5 star because I love their ice cream, however, tonight was a very big disappointment. My family and I are on our last night of vacation and we saved what we thought would be the best for last. Walked in 12 minutes before closing and they had over half of the ice creams already put away and we were told they couldn't go get them Because they were already in the freezer. There were at least 6 employees "up to something" when we walked in and suddenly pretended like they were working. We wanted vanilla and coconut and both were put away. We are very aggravated! We liked walking into this store and to see the thick marble tables that they pour their fudge out onto. They have many choices in fudge and offer free samples.Tthey almost always have some type of sale going on. I think it was buy 2 slices of fudge get the third free. Very mediocre experience. Ice cream is good but very expensive. It was also very odd to see the employees put a single small scoop on a waffle cone for $5 then weigh each cone on a scale. Really? Definitely need a major cleaning crew to come in and clean up the place. Strong small of some industrial cleaner permeated the store - not exactly a welcoming aroma to a candy shop. In spite of the smell there was no apparent sign it had been used. Floor was caked with crushed popcorn and smears of other products. Won't be back any time soon. read more
