Several months later, he developed significant pain in that tooth and returned to the office. He was told he was likely grinding his teeth. When the pain became worse, he returned again and was given the same explanation. He was even encouraged to purchase a $500 professional night guard. Because the pain continued to worsen, he eventually sought care from an emergency dentist on his own. They discovered an infection underneath the tooth and determined he needed an emergency root canal. He was then seen by another dentist/endodontist, who recognized significant swelling that was affecting his airway and immediately sent us to the ER. A CT scan showed soft-tissue swelling in his jaw associated with the dental infection. My son spent two nights and three days in the hospital receiving IV antibiotics. As a parent, this was terrifying. What concerns me most is that he had already returned to his original dentist twice because of persistent and worsening pain, yet the underlying infection was not identified. I am not a dentist, so I cannot say exactly what should or should not have been done. But I can say that after this experience, our family no longer feels comfortable receiving care here. We have canceled our upcoming appointments and will be taking our dental care elsewhere. I am sharing this because I would want to know if my child were in this situation at a dental practice I was considering.

I told the front office that we recently had a terrible experience at a chain dentist. The dental assistant talked with me about it and asked me if there was anything specific they could do for my son to make him feel more comfortable and less nervous. The dentist came in, showed me x-rays and exactly what was going on, then discussed the plan of action. There was no hustle or hurrying us out the door. He chose not to call, prompting me to write this review. As part of my visit on 9/24, before the cleaning I specifically went there for, the dental assistant performed a gum charting exercise (if not familiar, it's an easy Google lookup to describe what the charting numbers mean). For each tooth, she read out to her assistant 4s and 5s. A 12 year old failing implant had a much higher reading I'm sure was accurate. Dr. Noll told me I need a deep-cleaning to the tune of approximately $600...I subsequently saw my periodontist a few days later to evaluate the old implant. He performed another charting that revealed 2s and 3s. I then asked if I'd benefit from a deep cleaning, and I guess because of professional courtesies between doctors, he reluctantly told me I won't benefit from the procedure. It was the difference between what I was told at this appointment and what my periodontist said that led me to move on.
