No one spoke to me so it was hard to understand what they wanted. They insisted on filing off my old gel manicure with Acrylic nail buffer despite me saying my paper thin nails cannot take that. Was a complete mess filing my nails, really physically hurt. Finally once all coats are on he starts filing again!! No! You don't file gel nails after pain is set. That's how they chip after a few days. Grrrr read more

I've been back a few times now and the service keeps getting worse. The nail tech I have gotten stuck with the past few times doesn't pay attention while cutting my nails and can clip my skin if I'm not paying attention(I believe her name is Ching). She didnt speak English so I had to get someone elses attention to tell her what the problem was. Also my lip wax has been ok but they've missed some hair. They're ok but I think I'll try another place next time! read more

Got my first gel manicure, looks good so far. We will see how long it lasts. One negative- I didn't get the manicurists name, but I could tell she was trying to sell me some other services- eyebrow wax. I know I need it but just didn't want to get it done today. I don't like pushy customer service. Be courteous and offer it, but if it's obvious the customer doesn't want it, let it go and offer it as something when she returns. read more

The plus side of this nail shop is the free wine! They have OPI, Essie, and Gelish Gel polish(my fav). The downside is that you have to soak your nails in acetone to remove the gel polish! I do not like soaking my fingers in acetone because it's a chemical that shouldn't seep into my skin. So I ended up filing down the polish myself until another nail tech noticed and began to help. The location is nice and they provide some TV entertainment. Very sanitary and clean. The staff were unprofessional. When I walked in, at least 4 employees were eating corn on the cob and just sitting around talking. I was a bit turned off by that. Overall, I received a decent paint job on my toes(the pedicure was awful) and a good job on my nails. This was a last minute need for me and I couldn't go to my regular shop in Columbia, Halo Day Spa. It did the job but I will not be returning. read more

I've been here a few times with my friends and I'm not sure why I continue to go back. I always leave with nail polish all over my toes and feel as if I've inconvenienced the people working there by showing up. I went in with 3 of my girlfriends on a rainy Saturday when it wasn't crowded. The girls wanted mani/pedis and I just wanted a pedi. It wasn't crowded, but there weren't enough nail techs to start on all of us so one of the other girls had to wait. She was able to sit and soak her feet which was great. I think there was some confusion as to whom wanted what, because when my nail tech asked me what color I wanted for my fingers and I told him I only wanted a pedi, he got up and moved over to my other friend who was waiting. I then had to sit with a half-started pedicure until another nail tech was available! Seriously?! I dealt with the wait while sipping my free wine in a glass that I don't think was cleaned properly, but free wine is free wine! When my pedi was done, it looked like a 5 year old did it. Polish on 6/10 toes and top coat only covering half of the nails. If you need a good pedi go to the other two salons on Light and West. Better deals and better services! read more

Great for waxing and its a fun place to go with girlfriends for other spa services. I don't love their manicures/pedicures but they aren't bad either ( I just know other places that are better for the same price or cheaper) However for waxing Kim can't be beat.. she is fast, efficient and fairly priced. I'm pretty sure every girl in Baltimore goes here. I would call ahead and make sure Kim is in before you go and it will literally take you 15 minutes including parking for a wax. She is friendly and remembers her repeat customers. (p.s they will give you wine while you get a pedicure and there is always girly chick flicks playing which I love!) read more

My friend and I went here because we got 2 very good personal references. So we arrive and there is no pricing listing anywhere when you first walk in. Ok I can understand that. There is not a single customer in the place, only staff sitting in pedicure chairs watching a movie. They direct us to our seats. My massage chair did not work, also understandable I suppose. We were impressed with the color selection they have available, but that's about the extent of that. There was virtually no massage, very minimal attention to your feet at all. No removal of any dry skin on the heels, or extra attention to any problem areas on your nails. They never asked if we wanted to upgrade, which is almost always common practice at any nail salon. Other customers started to come in, and we noticed each customer received a glass of wine! We were never offered anything of that nature! Needless to say, we will never come back to this salon. Less than bare minimum was the standard, and that is beyond unacceptable. read more

After searching for a good place to go to get a wax and reading great reviews, my friend and I decided to give Kim's day spa a try. We were not disappointed. We had a Friday off so we got to the salon around 11am and it wasn't crowded. While we only wanted a wax they asked if we wanted a pedi while we waited. We both needed it so we said yes. They had a great selection of OPI and Essie polishes. We both opted for the basic pedicure which was fine with me. My feet are so soft and I love the color. As we were drying Kim asked us if we were ready. It was my first time so I was super scared. She was cool with us being in the same room. I immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. She walked me through everything and made it almost seem fun. She is very open and funny. My friend and I are definitely coming back! read more

WORST nail experience ever. This was my first time at Kim Day Spa. I went to relax after a stressful week and get a manicure/pedicure for an upcoming special event. Upon walking in I was greeted and asked to pick out a nail color. I asked my nail technician for his opinion on what I type of manicure I should choose (acrylic, gel, etc) because I rarely get my nails done and they were very short at the time. He did not speak English well and, therefore, did not understand what I was saying. When I realized this, I asked if he could do the pedicure first while I decided what I wanted to do with my nails. While I was getting the pedicure, the customer who sat down next to me was offered wine or water by her nail technician. I was never offered either. This was a very minor detail, however, it was still took away from the experience. After the pedicure, I decided that I wanted to get acrylic nails and told my nail technician. Now, let me preface this by saying that I have not gotten acrylic nails since I was a teenager, and therefore, I was unsure of the process and how they are applied. The nail technician polished my nails using an electric tool (which seemed right) and then proceeded to give me a regular French manicure. I kept waiting for him to apply the actual acrylic nail. Finally he told me that he was finished. I was a bit shocked and did not know what to say. I asked if they were acrylic and, again, he did not understand. He went to get help from two other female nail technicians. I explained the situation and told them that I had asked for acrylic nails. One of the women responded that "he [my nail technician] does not know what that means because we call them 'full set' here." I asked if full set was the same thing as acrylic and she said yes. I was extremely disappointed and told her politely that I had really wanted acrylic nails. Then both of the female technicians proceeded to tell me that "my nails look great" and tried convince me that I "should just keep it [the manicure] and get acrylic nails next time." I asked if the acrylic nails would be free if I came back since I had not gotten what I asked for. She laughed, patted my shoulder, and told me "no." It was very condescending. Needless to say they are not interested in customer service. I will not be going back. read more

First of all, I called to make an appointment. When I showed up, I wasn't greeted when I walked in and when I finally was, I was told to sit in a pedicure chair while I waited for 30 minutes. What was the point of making an appointment? I felt unwanted as I sat there in the chair being ignored while my feet soaked in cold water. The pedicure was rushed and it honestly hurt. The technician made my toe bleed while she was using the metal tool to scrape under my toe nail. I actually pulled my foot away at one point. She felt proud when she showed me all the stuff at scraped out at the cost of my pain. Also, I'm one of those people who enjoys the callus removal because of running and heels for work. I picked the Deluxe pedicure for the sole purpose of the callus removal. When it came time for the cheese grater, she looked at my feet with disgust and held them up for the entire salon to see, which was really embarrassing. However the embarrassment lasted all of 20 seconds since that's how long it took her to scrape each foot. I can still feel the roughness of my feet which is something I don't want to walk out with after a pedicure. I also enjoy the hot towels, another reason I wanted the Deluxe pedicure. However, these towels were scolding hot. I had steam coming off of my leg, which felt like sunburn. My skin is still sensitive due to the towels. Next ,the manicure. It was fine and basic but still rushed. Nothing special. Finally, the eyebrow waxing. My brows were bad so I was excited to get them waxed. However, the technician burned me with the hot waxed and jerked my head around to hard, that I would rather have my bushy eyebrows back then go back. All I wanted to was to have an enjoyable, pampered evening before my cousin's wedding, which I am a part of as a bridesmaid. For my next wedding, I will not go back to Kim's. read more

This is the second pedicure I've had since moving to Baltimore from NYC and both have been rotten experiences. You read a lot of raves about Kim's place, so I was very disappointed. The woman doing my pedicure (whom I thought was Kim for a while, so gave her the benefit of the doubt) was totally disinterested in what she was doing, paying far more attention to the conversations in the shop (and getting up to join them) than my feet... but that didn't stop her from making a disgusted face at me when I said I only wanted a basic pedicure, and essentially guilt-tripping me into upgrading at least one step. I had waxes in 2 waves - they wouldn't let me do everything at the same time - that were lackadaisical, sloppy, and painful (including one by Kim herself). The first woman kept saying "Don't worry" rather than listening when I asked a question or made a request, and dropped wax on my shirt, ruining it. Kim was also not careful, to the point that she made me cry out in pain and realized she made a mistake. There was no AC on in the shop, so it was incredibly hot, and there were mosquitoes/small flies circulating. I got about 5 bites in the first ten minutes, and one of the women working there killed one by shmooshing it against my leg, and didn't bother to wipe off my leg afterwards. When I was paying I asked Kim for change for tips & she proceeded to divvy out tips to the various people instead of asking me how much I wanted to pay. This place wins prizes for being unprofessional, stressful, and careless. Proceed at your own risk. I'm continuing my frustrating quest for a decent pedicure elsewhere. read more

Was only my second time getting a Brazilian and the first time was awful, I went to a different nail salon and it was unsanitary, it took her forever and I was sore for a couple of days. I was so happy my friends recommended me to Kim's I was in and out in 5mins, and the space was so pretty and she didn't double dip the sticks in the wax. I really like this place. I visited this nail salon while visiting Baltimore in dire need of a manicure. The BF and I found this place on yelp and went for it. Good choice! They were so welcoming when we arrived. The salon was clean, inviting and didn't reek of chemicals. I decided to get a gel manicure since I really wanted it to last. they took such great care of us including complimentary (though not great) wine. The pedicure was relaxing and came out great even without the recommended upsells. The gel manicure lasted 3 weeks. When I went to my regular salon to have it removed they were extremely impressed. Aside from my nail growth, my nails still looked amazing! I will definitely go back when in Baltimore. read more

The atmosphere was extremely awkward and my technician could not have looked less enthused to do my nails. She kept whispering to herself every time I asked for my French manicure to have a thinner line. This was of course after she cut my LONG nails to STUBS after asking her to keep them long. I had my first Brazilian done here and it wasn't as bad as I expected. The over all process took less than 10 mins and there was no meed for tweezing afterwards. The owner Kim is very polite and yes she does talk about vajayjay a lot but I wasn't offended and she made me feel very comfortable. The place is also really nice on the inside and they offer you wine while your getting serviced. I will come back here again the next time I need a Brazilian. read more

I just relocated to Federal Hill and needed a new place to get a Brazilian wax. I looked Kim's up on yelp and based on the reviews I decided to give Kim's Day Spa a try, and I am SO glad I did. I called to find out their hours and to see if I could possibly be seen that evening and was told to come on in, even though they were technically closed - the experience was wonderful. In addition to a GORGEOUS facility and free wine, Kim and her staff are so friendly and the wax was one of the best I've ever had. Kim is a true professional and the entire thing was shockingly quick, particularly given what I gave her to work with :P She was really funny and easy to talk to and the results were completely clean- no strays! The final price was so reasonable, I know I've found my new 'go to' waxer. Kim is amazing and I would heartily recommend her! read more

When I lived in Fed hill I went to Kims for my mani and pedis. Now, I got here about 30% of the time for my nails. Kim is always very friendly and makes sure that customer's nails look absolutely perfect. Even when she isn't my nail tech, she often checks to see how they look and will make changes if she doesn't think they look perfect. She or her staff always offer water or wine, which is nice. I recently started going to Kim for Brazilian waxing. She is now the ONLY person I will go to for as long as I live in Baltimore. She does a great job of relaxing me so that I feel comfortable and she is VERY quick with it. Not so quick that she does a bad job tho. Her brazilion waxes turn out better than any other place I've gone in Baltimore-- and you cant beat her price. I HIGHLY recommend making the trip to Fed hill for a wax here if you don't live in the neighborhood. read more

When I arrived to the pedicure station there were fruit flies in my chair and they flew around me for the duration my pedicure! Then the nail tech rushed my pedicure so fast I couldn't even relax. My friend and I started at the same time but I had gel polish taken off so I didn't get my actual pedicure started until about 10 minutes after his. Yet, we finished our pedicures at the same time. His legs and feet were well scrubbed and massaged while mine were touched so fast I couldn't even enjoy it! Then the nail tech clipped my nails and cuticles so fast and hard I thought she was going to cut me by accident. She continued to do this even when I told her she had to be careful because I'm a diabetic. She also butchered my cuticles to the point where there were pieces of skin still hanging off of them at the end and when I asked her to cut them she rushed through that too and still left them looking rough. She also painted my topcoat so fast that she got my skin and didn't wipe it off. I was not impressed by this place and could've done a better job at home. I left stressed, irritated, and wound up from being rushed and swatting and fruit flies. read more

I went to Kim's for a Brazillian Wax and this is going to sound soooooo strange but it was one of the best experiences of my life. First of all my appointment was for 6pm and I arrived early because it was my first wax and I wanted to be on time and relax. I was at least an hour early and because the other people were not there Kim gave me the choice to just get it over with right then and there.I opted for getting it over with and I followed her downstairs. BTW my waxiing technician was Kim herself the owner. As I was nervous I was asking tons of questions and she reassured me that she had a lot of experience and that I had nothing to worry about :) The salon itself is decorated beautifully, very relaxing atmosphere and the staff is very nice. What really made the difference about what I had imagined would be incredibly awkward and scary was that Kim was sooooo easy to talk to and reassuring. We talked the whole time she was waxing and it took my mind off of the pain. The "waxing room" was very clean and it was almost like being a doctor/s office just for different purposes. Kim is awesome, very down to earth and personable and she's fast! Considering I hadn't shaved in almost a month, she got it done in almost 10 minutes. Also very reasonably priced! So BIG thumbs up! Ok I have moved between three different cities since I began getting a brazilian bikini wax! And by now I consider myself a connoisseur! I have done hard wax, soft wax, and the combination. And I will tell you... the soft wax is the best. Hair grows back slower. So even though it may hurt a tad bit more....its worth it. Kim is the BEST hands down waxer I've ever had! 100% the best out there! You are in and out of a full brazilian in 10 min flat. You cannot beat that. When a waxer goes slow, it feels like it hurts 500 times worse. The nail salon is amazingly clean, inviting, etc. It is a gem! Highly recommended! Thanks for the amazing service Kim! read more

I returned to Kim's Day Spa because I had gotten a shellac manicure there which lasted 5 weeks and still looked great. This second visit was a disaster. First, the old nail polish was removed with the help of an electric rotary tool (a dremel?). As I watched ,I feared that this method would damage my nails, but what did I know? I had never had a shellac manicure removed. Next the manicurist asked if she could cut my nails while indicating that she would cut about 1/8 inch from the end, about the amount of nail that had grown out since the nails were polished weeks before. I agreed. What a mess! When she was done, she had cut all my fingernails way too short. The nails themselves were ragged and shredded. I was so appalled and upset, that I decided to leave right then. All the other operators in the room ganged up on me (except one who walked out, to hide his mortification, I assume.) They insisted that I stay; that they could fix the problem. Absolutely not! Who knew what further damage they could do? They demanded that I pay $15 "for the service." I did, just to get out of there. Over the next few days I attempted to repair the damage. Four of the fingernails had been so shredded (by the dremel?) that they must be filed down to the quick regularly because, as they grow out, the weakness in the nail bed makes the nail catch on fabric. Perhaps I was there on the wrong day of the week, Wednesday. Perhaps, Kim was not there minding the shop. All I know is that my fingernails which had looked so beautiful are now a total wreckage and will be for several weeks. I will NEVER set foot in that place again. I would advise any person to avoid Kim's Day Spa at all costs. read more

For a wax, this is the best place to go. Kim keeps the price cheap so that you come more often. She's really fast which makes the process more tolerable. Kim is also very good at making you feel very comfortable when you come in for a wax which is important. I've only gotten a pedicure here once and I wasn't a huge fan. There are better, cheaper places, but this salon probably has the best atmosphere. Very clean, wine available and Sex and the City or other girly movies playing on the large flatscreens. Kim's puppy is also a frequent visitor and she's super cute! read more

I went in Saturday for the first time. Had to wait around 25 minutes with my leg soaking in Luke warm water. Pedi started really well, but while applying polish I noticed they applied too much polish on my toes and it look a long time to dry even with that it chipped in a day :( very disappointed with that. I got OPI color not Essie so expected it to stay longer. I got a mani/pedi combo and I expected Kim to help me with my bag and slipper to move to the mani area but she just didn't care she was too busy running around with her dog(which is super cute) but come on am paying 40 bucks for mani/pedi atleast help me move to the next chair to get my mani done? Mani was very average, too much polish, she even covered my cuticles and it looked bad when it dried up. She was too busy talking in a language which I didn't understand ... Might not go here again.. read more

I've only ever gotten a Brazilian here so my reviews are for that waxing service only. I've been getting Brazilians for over 5 years now and when I recently moved to Baltimore and was looking for a great waxer I found the reviews for Kim Day Spa. Let me just say that after 5 years I've never had a wax hurt me (not even my first one ever) and Kim managed to hurt me both times I came. Not only that, but she double dips in her wax! She may use a new stick for each client but if the client before you had some disease and she dipped that stick in there after each time she touched them then that's just unsanitary. I could deal with the pain if it weren't for the unsightly ingrown hairs that I got after she waxed me. Again, I'm a veteran with Brazilians and I know that the occasional ingrown hair just happens. However, after being waxed the second (and last time) by Kim I went home to visit my family and went back to see my old waxer who took one look at me and was horrified by what had happened! She spent almost 20 minutes trying to tweeze me and said that wherever I had gotten this wax job done was not a place I should ever go again. To top it all off, I have very fine hair and I can usually go 5-7 weeks in between Brazilians. After going to Kim's I had hair regrowth in less than 2 weeks. I'm not sure where she learned her technique but I'm definitely not going back there! read more

Pros: They serve you white wine.They have a cute dog. Cons: They don't provide a good service. One woman did my pedicure, another my manicure (I didn't get their names, but neither person was Kim.). The woman who did the pedicure rushed and didn't do the full treatment I paid for. My manicure was also rushed and she left polish on my skin and there were bubbles in the polish. Headline: Spa just not that sanitary or relaxing, and cons outweigh the pros. Given it a few shots, and it just doesn't work for me for pedicures. Pros: - Conveniently located for where I live - Nice polish selection - Comfy pedicure chairs - Nice extras of wine/movies as noted by others - Staff is generally friendly and nice, but the vibe can be volatile, see below Cons: - I seemed to have sanitized tools on my first visit for a pedicure, but then not on the 2nd two. That is a deal breaker for me. I tried to discuss this with the technician and she did not understand English well enough and just brushed me off. - The two pedicures I did get were rushed and not relaxing, even with the "deluxe" pedicure i had the first time. I skipped the third because I wasn't going for another round of unsanitized tools. While the nail part was done ok, my feet looked like nothing had happened except a polish change. - The salon itself is not that clean - there are often dirty towels around the various stations and they did not sanitize the pedicure bowls between clients when I was there. - Every time I've been there the staff has been fighting with each other or a customer and the client disagreements were handled poorly in my opinion. The staff ended up yelling at each other in their native tongue right in front of one woman calmly indicating a minor issue with the bill and then my nail tech left my pedicure to join in and then came back and rushed it. Just not relaxing. - I'm with other reviewers, I like dogs, but they don't have a place in a salon, especially one with an excitable temperament and I'm not keen on maneuvering around the dog gate that is often at the door.
