I went to Kim's Tailor & Cleaners after finding them online. I commissioned a tuxedo that was just a little too tight in the arm so I brought it over here for an alteration and dry cleaning. When I asked to bring the upper sleeve out just a tad, the seamstress was very dismissive of my request despite me saying that I requested my tailor leave some fabric for this very reason. After telling her a few times, she reluctantly checked and confirmed that there was some fabric that can be used to let out the garment and charged me a reasonable amount for the alterations and dry cleaning. I am, admittedly, pretty particular with how my formal clothing is cared for so I brought my own wooden hanger with sloped shoulders as I don't want my garment developing shoulder dimples from the wire hangers that most dry cleaners use. Up to this point, I had nothing but a 5 star experience. I have to reduce it down to 2 stars because upon returning to pick up my garment there were two things I was not happy with. #1. My tuxedo jacket was hanging on a wire hanger. While I understand that wire hangers are the most economical hanger to buy for dry cleaners, I was pretty upset that there was no plastic insert or anything covering the hanger that suspends the shoulders. There was a piece of folded cardboard but it was no better than the wired hanger. I made it clear that my jacket was bespoke and wanted her to take care of it and was pretty disappointed by this fact as every tailor I've been to in the past would use some sort of rounded layer to protect the shoulders (Hell some of them just cut up a couple of toilet paper rolls which would have been 100% acceptable). #2. Upon receiving my tuxedo, I was disappointed that I didn't receive my original hanger back. It wasn't a 100$ hanger but it was a premium wooden hanger with sloped shoulders that I bought specifically to care for my garments. When asking the seamstress about this, she just pointed to a poster on the wall stating that they aren't liable for returning my hanger back and she said "if you wanted your hanger back you should have told me so I could take note to return it to you" Mind you, the poster was hidden behind the register and was in small print (I am nearsighted so I didn't pay particular attention to it). While I fully admit to have not read the poster and take responsibility for that, I am upset at the fact that this policy was not mentioned AT ALL when I dropped off and paid for the services. I made sure to clearly ask if leaving the hanger was ok with the expectation that it would have been returned because logically, who would bring a hanger and not expect to have the nice hanger back. When I pressed the seamstress about this, she made some hand wavy excuse saying "we get too many hangers to keep track so we just end up giving them out randomly to people as they pick up their clothes", which I am calling bullshit on as my clothes came back on a wire hanger. If her statement was true, I would expect it to come back on one of the MANY plastic hangers she had in the back just sitting around as many of them had inserts for suit jackets. I only know this because the seamstress reluctantly let me go in the back and grab a hanger from this pile. I ended up grabbing a plastic hanger with wide sloped shoulders as it was the closest to what my old one was like. I understand that I'm being pretty pissy over what is probably a 7$-8$ hanger but this was very disappointing as had the seamstress mentioned the policy, I would have taken my hanger and be more pleased with the experience. Needless to say, I'll be taking future alteration business elsewhere as I am not happy with the lack of attention to detail. read more

I don't trust lower-end dry cleaners like Rick's with my clothes. So, I am willing to pay a higher price for better work and love to support Asian businesses like this one. While it was expensive to dry clean my winter coats at Kim's, she did a beautiful job! Kim is reliable. My coats turned out good as new. I appreciated her transparency and friendliness, too. After scrambling around town to find someone to sew something in an emergency, Kim was the only one able to do the job on a Saturday. My boyfriend needed a last minute name tape sewn onto his military gear and Kim said no problem! It was a quick job, she was working on a dress before we arrived and worked on ours soon after. We were able to pick up his gear the same day within 2 hours. Her prices were cheap, however I'm not sure how her more complicated work compares to other tailors. I went in 2 times and the last time the pants looked horrible, my jacket was put together crooked, and my vest we taken in way too much. So, I started going to see Kim when she first opened her store and at the beginning, she was very good. She talked about how she worked at Nordstrom and how many customers she had kept from the store. Her work was good and she was very friendly, but over the years, her work has gone down hill and her attitude is horrible, especially if you return something to her. I decided to write this review on her because I knew I would be terminating my relationship with her after this last visit. I took in 3 pairs of designer jeans and 1 pair of dress pants. I also had 3 pairs of shorts I wanted her to hem. When I asked her about the cost to do the hemming of the shorts, she wanted to charge me $4 more and told me that 'it was more work to do the shorts than it is to do the pants'. This doesn't make any sense to me. So I didn't leave the shorts for her to do. I went to pick up my clothes this past Saturday and rather than looking at the clothes, I just paid and left. $40! Got home and looked at the hems and not only are they crooked, but one pair of jeans has one leg that is shorter than the other. For me, it's not worth going back to her for repairs and dealing with her attitude. It's just time so sever the relationship. And never take a tux to her. She whacked that all up like a bad haircut that I had to take back to Nordstroms and pay them extra to fix it! read more

Kim is an experienced tailor with her own shop off of Howard. She is very courteous and willing to work with you in regard to requests and time restraints. Her pricing is fair also. I actually found her on a last minute tailor search. I was heading out of town the next day and needed to have a suit tailored. She shorten my suit pants and modified my jackets (shorten the cuffs, removed shoulder pads, and took in the jackets) all within the day. This was a last minute request but she did a great and fast job. I ended up having all my items ready by the end of the day. In addition to this, she does a lot of custom work including custom suits and traditional Vietnamese gowns. Some of her beautiful work is on display in her shop. She also offers sewing classes, which I believe are 3 sessions for about $200. From my experience, her typical prices: -Shorten pant or jacket cuffs: $12 -Removing shoulder pads: $10 -Tailoring jacket: $25 (around this price).
