We had a great end of a long weekend in Maine vacation meal here it's literally at the marina with an entertaining view from the top deck of people dropping and loading back up their various boats, or a lovely river view. I had a lazy mans with butter and fries my hubs fish & chips. I had a great drink that was a summer blueberry Maine special and a second one that was passion fruit and so pretty with an edible flower. Sunglasses on the deck or patio are a must while dining. Okay we came for a catered rehearsal dinner and were upstairs in the deck and had a specialized menu for the event. The deck is a little broken in various sections so keep an eye on your kids. We had one child pull a shelf down that fell on top of her so they should start work on fixing the deck. Outside of that, the space was great with a lot of shade. They were so great about making sure we all had drinks and appetizers and were doing well throughout the time we were there even with 20ish people! The star of the dinner was the bacon wrapped scallops, bacon onion dip and the coconut shrimp! If those are options, you MUST get them. Excellent experience. Nice casual ambience beautiful location right on the water of the Penobscot river. Seafood is what this place is all about. I had the lobster scallop risotto which was awesome. Five star dish. I started with a clam chowder which was good. My colleague had the grilled garlic shrimp which he told me was excellent. I don't even know how to properly express how amazing our experience was at Kimberly's this evening. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family and the food was just exceptional. It was my husband and I with our 8 and 5 year old kiddos. No naps had been had. It's a rainy Sunday and we postponed our drive home to NJ to tomorrow due to the horrible weather down the coast. Everyone was getting hangry, especially the 5 year old who wanted a booster seat. While they didn't have a booster, Kimberly and her daughter (our amazing server) brought out a total of 2 additional chairs and pillows for Mr. Cranky pants to try. Including the big bosses chair! Of course, that's the one he ended up liking the most, eventually. Before that was totally settled, bread and butter plus Connect 4 was brought to us. That made ALL the difference and we were on a path to actually enjoying a meal. I mean, who does this?!?! I wish I remembered our servers name. She was amazing and got our apps and the kids meals in ASAP. Oh and drinks for the grown ups - clearly they were needed. She helped us make decisions about our dinners, which were perfect. Followed by AMAZING desserts - warm brownies with vanilla bean gelato for the kids, cheesecake with berries for hubby and a ridiculously good espresso martini affagatto style over vanilla bean gelato. I tasted a bit of each, and loved them all! Apps we had: Maine sea scallops wrapped in bacon and drizzled with Maine maple syrup AMAZING and the Mediterranean Calamari We recommend both very highly. Entrees: I had the Scallop and Lobster Risotto and hubby had the Baked Stuffed Haddock. That risotto was cooked perfectly and even loved the peas and side of asparagus. And I almost never enjoy asparagus. We both loved the stuffed haddock, which is something I'd never order. But I kept asking my husband for another bite. Wish we could have taken home the leftovers! During the meal, Kimberly asked me how everyone was doing and if we'd settled. By then all was good and I thanked her as much as I could in the moment. Asked where I could post reviews. She said not to worry about that and she just wanted to make sure we enjoyed the time and could relax. When we left, both her and her daughter walked us to the door and Kimberly even helped my daughter zipper her new rain jacket. I know this is a long review, but it still doesn't sum up the incredible experience we had on a day that was taking a turn for the worse. If you want to be treated like family in a place with fantastic scenery and ambiance, even on a rainy evening, and have incredible food - run to Kimberly's at the Marina. If we lived here, we'd certainly be regulars and would be back with our 2 pups to hang outside and eat! Enjoyed our food and our time at Kimberly's for a lunch during the week. Staff were very good, friendly, timely and professional. It was rainy but the view of the river was nice. The soups were exceptional but we should have had JUST soup and maybe an appetizer and called it a day. We paid dinner prices for Lazy Lobster and Scallop and Lobster Rissotto. The prices are way too high for the portions. The risotto was overly salted and ruined the seafood portion. Risotto also had 3 small scallops and shreds of lobster - waaaayyy overpriced. And there are not veggies at lunch so you get fries and 1/4 dish of coleslaw with lobster. Two people for lunch with once cider and dessert was $200. Be aware of what you are getting!!!! read more

The only good thing about this place is the view, and the drinks. We were hesitant to try it based on many of the reviews, which cited cold and bland food. We set those aside hoping maybe those were just bad days. The risotto and scallops were cold...like not even a little bit warm, fully cold. Same for the vegetables and the mashed potatoes (which seemed like just the ones you get in the grocery store refrigerated section). The only thing we were served that was hot was the sweet potato fries and the stuffed haddock. I'll say that the haddock was decent, but definitely bland...but it least it was served hot. When we pointed out to the waitress that almost everything was cold, there was little in the way of a remedy other than to basically offer to nuke it. Then received our bill, with zero offered in the form of any kind of credit, but instead WE were essentially blamed for "sitting outside on the patio", as if that was an acceptable excuse for serving a $42 plate of risotto cold, I guess, because it was windy?? The waitress then came back with an attitude and claimed she had "no power to give us a credit", and we "should have mentioned it earlier". I waitressed for 15 years, and would never have even considered behaving in that way to a customer. If you're looking for a fabulous view, this is your place. If you're looking for horrible food served with an attitude, this is also your place. read more

For over 10 years, Kimberly's has taken care of my family. My grandpa is now 97 years old, he is a WWII and Korean War vet and needs a lot of accommodations. Every single time we are in there, the owner kindly greets us and all the staff are so amazing and accommodating. The food is delicious and unique--I was just saying I think I have had everything on the menu at this point and it was all great. Kimberly's also hosted his 90th birthday party and catered the event for 75 people--everyone was happy and satisfied with the food and people. Lastly, the view is very pretty! This would have been 4-5 stars if my meal had been better. My wife and MIL had a lobster roll and they thought it was good, although the bun was not grilled, but instead toasted. My major disappointment was with the fish & chips. I love fried haddock when done right. It was as if they decided to try and "chef up" the haddock and it truly tasted meh. It also tasted "fishy" which usually means it was frozen haddock. I really miss Angler's restaurant that closed in 2023. They were an excellent location for seafood in Hampden. Plenty of parking outside of the restaurant MAKE A RESERVATION otherwise you will wait a looooong time for a table. Specially at dinner time. This is a pretty upscale place for the area so expect very expensive dinner on your plate. They are right in front of some water with a marina and they have outside sitting and a garden hangout lounge thing going on. Pretty nice looking place I must say. The restrooms were in a shed outside though I heard that they also had a bathroom inside. The server was friendly but she also seemed a bit annoyed that our party was a bit large. They do have a bit of an "we busy we don't really care if u don't get to eat here" kind of attitude to them I felt like. The server got nicer and nicer as time went on, so that was good. The atmosphere and decor was pretty nice and more of a fancy kind of place, here u will see families, couples and friends. It has a mom and pop small restaurant vibe to it. The market price items u see at the menu u will be able to see the price of the day on a board at the entrance of the sinning area of the restaurant along with the specials for of the day. The appetizers came out and were eaten a long time before my drink even arrived !!! It took so long I was getting annoyed to see that the bar was that slow. I started to feel like I should have walked myself to the bar and ordered as the people at the bar were getting drinks faster than the tables. The music was low and I like that but it was so low that I was not even sure if there was music at all some times. FELLIN NAUTI- this was the drink I ordered it is like a coconut on the rim, creamy chocolate martini kind of drink, it took so long to come that i took two sips and ordered another one already so i could have the time to wait. LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE- first let me talk about the side. It was literally 4 spears of asparagus I wanted to laugh, However when it came to the mac and cheese itself they dis a great job, the mac and cheese was creamy and fresh, I was surprised how buttery it tasted and the size of the lobster pieces was very generous! The size of the lobster pieces on the dish was pretty impressive as well as the amount of lobster in it. I am happy with it and I can recommend this dish hands down if u on your cheat day. The size of the dish was pretty ok too for one person. COCONUT CREAM PIE- I have had this as an ice cream flavor at the cold stone creamery, so I needed to go for it here and see how the real thing tasted. Let me tell u.... this is heaven!!!! Amazed. Very creamy very coconuty and the merengue on top is just to die for. This is a must desert here omgggg.... In summary I think this is a worth place to visit but be aware to MAKE RESERVATION and expect things to take a while to come out. read more

This is a really pretty location and the food was good. I do, however, believe that it is very overpriced for the area. It definitely is more on the upscale side so you are paying for that vibe and that type of restaurant. We started out with some oysters; their mignonette is pretty yummy! For my main course I got the lobster dinner; this was actually my first time ever ordering a full lobster! I wanted to give it a try. Luckily, they had done a lot of the pre-work in opening up the tail and pre-cracking some spots. But it was good for a first experience! The presentation was also definitely pretty nice. The Strawberry Rhubarb pie was definitely the most amazing closing to the meal. They have seasonal pies so I guess there is something different available all the time, but I think the pies in general are probably amazing here! Super fresh ice cream on the side also! read more

The view is the best part of this place. The food was very subpar but the inside looks nice. We order a bunch of food when we try new restaurants so we got the popular items. Started off with the coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops & lobster stew. My husbhe coconut shrimp was good, nicely crisped. And just enough shrimp to be shared with our 2-year-old. The bacon wrapped scallops could've done without the bacon. The bacon was cooked too long but the scallops by themselves were delicious. The lobster stew was a bit watery. Pretty bland. But loved the chunks of lobster. For dinner my hubs debated on the lobster Mac or the stuffed haddock. He ended up getting the haddock and thought it was just okay. Wasn't impressed with the meal but he loved the butternut squash (he even ate mine!) You can't go wrong with fries so he enjoyed those as well. He wished he would've gotten the lobster Mac instead. I had the lobster roll. It's not on the dinner menu but it's available to order. I did not like it at all. It had wayyyy too much mayo. Tasted more like lobster salad, similar to tuna salad or chicken salad, and on the toasted roll. I took 1 bite & couldn't eat the rest. It was too overwhelming for me. The butternut squash was good, I just couldn't enjoy it because I was disappointed with my lobster roll. I also got asparagus which was just ok. Giving this place 3 stars only because my husband semi-enjoyed all his food. And because the staff was very friendly & let my 2-year-old run around the restaurant. The worst restaurant we have ever been. We were the 4 of us and none of the dishes were as listed. Seafood was grease, few small scallops raw inside. The "famous" potato advertised was not available. Substitute was french fries from sweet potatoes which were soggy and raw inside. This is the last time we are going into this place. 4th of July. 3000 miles from home and family. Went to movie and decided to find a place to eat. The venue is lovely and peaceful and on the Penobscot River. Since there were few diners, I was seated immediately after being offered inside, outside patio or upstairs patio. I chose the downstairs patio. It was very relaxing and offered a good look at the water, the boaters, and the woods. Margo was my very pleasant and helpful waitress. She took excellent care of me and allowed me to linger over my meal. I had the Snow Crab cluster and it was excellent. I solicited Margo's thoughts on the stuffed Haddock versus the Scallop Alforno and decided on the scallops. They were an excellent choice. The scallops were large as was the portion. They were sweet and tender and the sauce did not overwhelm. I was quite stuffed when I left. I can't say enough about Margo and her kindness as she waited on me. A most enjoyable meal. Well, to say we were disappointed is an understatement. My husband ordered a filet mignon *rare*... and got it well done, totally butchered that gorgeous piece of meat. He sent it back and we were all but finished by the time his came back out; it was underdone (black and blue) but luckily my husband will eat it that way and didn't want to wait any further. For a mkt priced meal to be so badly done I was surprised not to be comped a percentage or a Dessert. My sister-in-law and I had shrimp scampi that was flavorless and bland. We had to salt it liberally just to get some flavor. The tomatoes were all but raw. My brother-in-law had a seafood platter than was incredibly overpriced for the serving of fish. The night out was so disappointing, and was such a shame as we were here last year and had a fantastic meal from start to finish. Our in laws, who are locals, vowed never again. For dessert, I will say my cheesecake was great and my SiL enjoyed her carrot cake. But the mens' blueberry pies had undercooked crust hard as a rock and overly dry filling. Couldn't event finish it. The only reason I'm giving this review two stars is because our server did her level best for us. read more

We had just landed in my hometown of Bangor on Saturday at 12:30 pm and after stopping by to say Hello to my parents at their business on Buck Street I decided I had to see the Penobscot River and since we were hungry why not go to Kimberly's at the Hampden marina! My old stomping grounds! It was around 2:45 when we pulled in and happy to find that they were open and not busy as we needed a break from crowds after the airports! The restaurant is modern and has such gorgeous views of the river and trees and rocky coastline across from it! I immediately felt like I was home again! We ordered drinks and the bang bang shrimp appetizer and started to unwind looking at the view! The menu has a lot of wonderful options so it was hard for my husband to decide! I knew immediately that I was having their fried whole belly clams because they use very little breading and are always perfectly fried and taste like the ocean & never greasy! They were just as I remembered them! Hubby decided on their burger with cheddar cheese and bacon jam and avocado and lettuce and tomato on a toasted English muffin and He was blown away by how delicious it was! Kimberly's used to be our favorite place. We'd take our out of town guests and family there for special occasions. Something changed and not for the better. First time back this year and while there were only a couple of other tables seated, the service was very slow. When we finally got our appetizers, our meal came out just a couple minutes later, even though we specified and confirmed with our server to have it served first. The lobster was rubbery and the haddock was overdone / almost mushy, yet the side were only tepid. The location and ambience is nice, but it is definitely no longer worth the price there. read more

The food, however was VERY average and overpriced. I had the linguini al limone with scollops and shrimp. The linguine was over cooked and it came with 2 scallops and two shrimp for $34. My husband had a medium burger that came out well done and was served on an English muffin. We did have a hot crab dip that was very good.
