The Birria tacos were pretty good, and they weren't greasy which was nice and the lime wedge was nice but the pricing was a little rough...The fries were OK at best, there wasn't a lot of potato in them and not a lot of crunch. Maybe that's because of the duck fat? The strawberry margarita was great except for the rim, I ordered a sugar rim and the rim tasted fully of citric acid, and personally I don't like citric acid with my margs. The screwdriver was okay, it's a screwdriver for sure. The blackberry martini was delicious and went down really smoothly. It's pretty expensive too, over $100 for two entrees and three drinks. The 14oz waygu Steak Frite was EXACTLY what my tummy was craving. There were other dishes I was considering but I knew the waygu would be the only thing I'd think about all night. I spent a day in Bangor and got lunch at Blaze with my friend Jonathan B., who lives in Maine. He noted that downtown Bangor is small, and that this was a decent spot with a big menu, and possibly our only option for a sit-down lunch on a quiet Tuesday. The place was nondescript but casual and comfortable. It was pretty empty when we walked in, somewhere around noon, but a few other tables filled up while we were there. One of them included a cute baby, and I thought this would be a pleasant spot for lunch with my own young kids, should I ever need to feed them in Maine's third-most-populous city. The menu was indeed huge, with food and beverage options in a dozen different categories. I got some guidance from our server, a nice young woman who took great care of us throughout our meal. She said the wagyu diner burger and fish tacos were good, and I got the burger while my friend got the tacos. The burger was solid, with a griddled 4oz. Dover Creek Farms patty, griddled Secret Meadow Farm bacon, fig jam, smoked cheddar, sriracha aioli, pickled jalapeño, lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a brioche bun. Lots going on, but it worked, and it came with some satisfying French fries. I had a beer with my lunch, an aid for the afternoon nap I was about to take after my basic economy redeye. Blaze offers a number of house drafts, and I think I got one of the pale ales. It was tasty, and it did the trick. My hotel, it turned out, was right next door, and everywhere I went in downtown Bangor was a short walk away. Blaze isn't quite a destination joint, but if you want a hearty lunch with a pint of beer in Bangor, it may be your best and only choice. read more

From the get go, it was a great experience--and I don't like that sort of restaurant normally. I think menus that have that much on it generally don't do the basics well. Well, I was wrong and thrilled. My dinner was perfect and delicious. My companion had really good tacos. We were served with a smile and had a refill before we needed it. I was passing through Bangor and decided to stop into Blaze. It was the best decision I made! When you walk in, you can either sit at their bar or get a table. I sat at the bar and I was able to order a drink and food. If you have any food allergies, they are extremely accommodating. I have a gluten allergy, and Blaze had many options for me to choose from. I started with one of their drink specials and it was incredible. Everything in the drink was well mixed together and the mezcal was not overpowering at all. Next, I order their brown butter buffalo wings and their grandma pizza(both were gluten free). The wings were absolutely incredible and I am still dreaming about them. They had a nice crisp to them and the sauce was to die for. I ordered 1lb of them and I wish I ordered 2lbs. Not only were the wings amazing, but so was their pizza. It was the best gluten free pizza crust I have ever had. The toppings were nice and fresh and everything paired nicely together. The only downside to the pizza was it had a little bit too much oil on it. However it did not take away from the taste. If you happen to pass a Blaze, I highly recommend stopping in. In my most recent visit to Blaze I was left a bit disappointed. It was not busy at all, we were seated in a window seat by the bar area and the bench was way way too high for the table. Right off the bat it was awful because we were sitting so awkwardly, you couldn't even rest your hands on the table and the sun was pounding on us through the window. We discussed asking for another table but having worked on a restaurant I know they may have been seating like that for the waitress who was up for a table. I let it go. The waitress/ bartender was very nice but took 4 people's orders without writing anything down. I am always suspicious about that when there is a large party- it's unlikely you will remember what we have ordered. First round of drinks was ok- the Cosmo was all juice and not at all boozy as a martini should be. I moved to wine because it was not worth the cost! The food order was definitely off, probably mostly the kitchen's fault. The wood fired oysters were not cooked. They apparently hadn't been "fired" very long if at all. Burger that was ordered well done was very rare..who knows if it was put in the computer properly? Also what was supposed to be a hot honey chicken sandwich only tasted of extreme cumin seasoning. No honey & no hot spice. Very gross and very disappointing! The beer is great, the raw oysters very good & their fries are nice as well. We had an order of chicken wings that were tasty, too. Overall it was just not good enough to go back, one person didn't eat because of her burger being so undercooked and the cumin chicken was disgusting- quite literally left a bad taste in the mouth about returning here. We could have complained about the above issues but I feel like that gets you nowhere in a restaurant situation. We just won't return. read more

First of all the the music was way too loud for how few people were there. I got a margarita which was very good. The mussel app took far too long to come out also considering how few people were there. Then when the mussels did come, they were not what was advertised on the menu. Menu advertised a red curry and smoked lemon dish, what we were served was a typical run of the mill white wine broth mussels with of all things cherry tomatoes on top. It was also room temp and the mussels seemed old and dirty. Would not recommend unless they make some big improvements. read more

Blaze has become a consistently good chain across the state of Maine. They have a robust but not overwhelming menu and all of the food tastes fresh and homemade. We also got the burger with a side salad. The salad was underwhelming and the burger was good but not great for the price. I would say all the food is good here but overpriced. Have been here several times for brunch and dinner; always tried different things and NEVER been disappointed! Brunch is great with sweet and savory options. Loved the mimosa trio that came with a bottle of bubbly and 3 juices to experiment with. The poutine with duck fat fries and gravy (obvi cheese curds too) was soooo decadent but I was craving those fatty flavors. Great find for more authentic poutine! Those are just the highlights. We love when YELP guides us to these wonderful little gems. Such is the case with Blaze. Not the make-your-own fast food pizza joint. This is a swanky eccentric little pizza/burger bar that will surprise you. The food is fabulous. Bring an appetite. The portions are ginormous and the drink will flow. I don't care who you are, you're an amateur at Blaze. The waitstaff were out of this world. Friendly, knowledgeable and incredibly quick on the refills. I seriously had just set my empty glass down when I heard a voice say "Did ya like that? How's about i pull you another?" Less than 30 seconds after I responded, my server had a full icy one sitting in front of me. I yelled for her to stop and come back over. "Why do you serve brews so quickly?" With a total stone-face she snaps back at me "I'M SURE AS HELL NOT GONNA LET YOU DRINK 'EM WARM". I'm in love. First time I got brain freeze from a frothy one. Since I now had to watch my money, because someone just earned herself a massive tip, I inquired about the buffet. "What buffet...do you see a buffet somewhere?" So we had the bbq chicken pizza and duck fat fries. Both excellent, I might add. Once again, order it...wait a mere few minutes...arrival...attack! Sol and Gracie shared the buttermilk chicken breakfast sandwich and a smoked duck salad. Two thumbs up! David and Guy had something weird called Devils on Horseback. If I could give 0 stars I would. what a nightmare process this has been with no communication. Family reserved the banquet room upstairs back in January for a wedding reception to happen on August 29th. Just found out today (12 days before the wedding) that they have rented it to another party.... Also a deposit was made back in January to hold the spot I guess that doesn't mean anything them. Would not recommend their banquet room or services to anyone especially since they don't honor deposits or reservations made months in advance. read more

We ate thier one night ordering apps and thier outrageously experience pizza but since we shared it between the two of us we justified the price but boy did we wait. Now granted it was about half full and buy the time we got our apps it was a full house but geeze. Let me explain the one star and walking out before we were even served our pizza. So it was 430 when we got there and ordered our food by 450. Got our drinks by 5. Then we waited. All we ordered was bread with with goat cheese and marinara sauce and that took 40 minutes to arrive. The waitress seemed SO busy and distracted we just let it go because like I said earlier it was now a full house. So now it's about 550, almost an hour since we ordered our food and cooking a pizza takes literally minutes we now tried to get the attention of the waitress who never refilled our drinks said " oh, your finished your apps I'll now tell the cooks to start your dinner" I'm like say what!? I've worked at two restaurants and never heard of this before. You want people to eat and leave not eat at your own pace and then tell your server your ready to tell the cooks to cook your supper without even telling you this! What a fucking joke. But since we were hungry and pizzas take minutes to cook we waited but that was a mistake because the server forgot to tell the cooks to cook our pizza after we sat and waited and watched others eat thier food and leave now while we waited and get more pissed. So we got up asked to speak to the manager said we've been here since (630) a total of two hours of which your waitress forgot to "place our order of pizza" so we are leaving. I've never felt like a fool like I have been at this restaurant. You can say why did we wait so long without saying anything but we are very shy people and dont like to make a fuss so this situation was just going off the rails at hour 1 when i had to muster the courage to confront the waitress to stop and see us for just a second and at that point we knew this was going down hill. But we tried to keep it going for another hour hoping that our pizza would arrive when the next person would be bringing more new pizzas out until we had enough of this shitty restaurant. So this is just another notch in the quest to find a decent home cooked irestaurant in Bangor area but they are very rare indeed. This restaurant needs to go up in a blaze read more

We were looking for a dog-friendly place and ended up here on the patio. Excellent and fast service. Big selection of local draft beers. Nice location and decor but showing its wear (menu covers are grubby). Salad was crisp and tasty. Shaved beef sandwich was similar to a Philly cheesesteak with bright orange liquid cheese. read more

I signed up for their maintenance program when I had a plumbing issue. The plumbing issue had been a recurring problem for 2 years and I went through 5 other plumbers who basically did the same thing. The only thing different the Blaze plumber did was to remove the toilet. It has been a few months now and there has been no recurrence of the problem. (It is a newly constructed home) they were prompt, polite and very helpful. I would highly recommend them for plumbing or heating and air. read more
