I gave it a try again. Such a convenient location and I generally love about any style of Asian food, though I prefer as authentic as possible and not the "Americanized" versions. Anyway, I ordered teriyaki chicken this time with noodles instead of rice. I was terribly disappointed by what seemed like instant rice before. What I got was a wet mess on a plate. It was literally soupy. So gross. We also ordered spring rolls. Mushy in the middle and completely tasteless. They are still watering down their sweet chili sauce so much that it hardly has any taste either. So weird. If I could give ZERO stars I would! I took my mom here for her birthday dinner as it's a place we frequent often. The past few times I will admit we have not left a tip and today something was said by the manager about us never tipping. She followed my mom outside as I went to get the car and was harassing her. I parked and went back inside to ask what the problem is as I felt she was doing so being my mom is disabled. I tried to be polite at first but she wanted to get a attitude. I used to be a waitress and I explained to her that a tip was not required it was the customers choice and that a waitress or waiter must work for the tip and be good at their job. However, the past few times including today we never get everything we ask for we always have to ask more than once, they put the food down and walk off without asking if it's right or need anything, never ask for refills on drinks , flies were everywhere in the restaurant today as well, and the list can go on and on with the attitudes of the employees, etc ! I made it very clear as to why we didn't tip and that when Goozman used to be the sushi chef and the other waitresses and waiters used to be there along with his wife who was in this now rude ass managers place we always tipped very nicely because they deserved it. The fact that she wanted to harass us about not tipping and acting as if it was required no matter how bad the waitresses are is ridiculous and her behavior and professionalism was a pure joke. They do not live off tips I know this from being a waitress in school if the tips they report don't match minimum wage they get a check for minimum wage for their time worked. I get times are hard and they may have families but if they want their tips then work for it. It isn't free or guaranteed....I'm not going to tip when you don't do YOUR job and that's the problem people think the world owes them everything and it doesn't! I go to many restaurants and tip very well but if the service isn't up to par or the waitresses are not doing their part then no they don't get a tip ! My point in this review is the pure harassment of the manager and her nasty disgusting attitude. I will NEVER set foot back in this location ! This kimonos is one of the better restaurants of this type in this area. My date and I ate here on a weeknight. While I am not a sushi eater my date wax so that made this restaurant a good choice for dinner. I had the steak and chicken combo which was vary good. My date had sushi and she ate everything on her plate. My meal was served up very quickly and was very tasty. The waitress we had was helpful and really nice in explaining the menu choices to me. They get a little crowded during normal meal times. We will be coming to eat here in the near future. read more

Tonight we ordered Kimono's, one of our favorite go-to restaurants via Doordash. I ordered the Agedashi tofu for the first time. I got two orders as I wasn't feeling great but needed something to eat. When I received my food, I opened one of my agedashi tofu orders to find a fly crawling all over the tofu and it quickly flew off and into my house somewhere. I know this isn't the fault of Doordash as the bags are all tied closed after the restaurant packages them. This is incredibly disappointing as I always found this food delicious. Best sushi on the north side of town! We regularly go for sushi. My go-to orders are the rainbow roll, spicy tuna, hot JB roll, and the winston Salem roll. Also the seaweed salad and crab salads are very fresh and delicious. If I'm going for lunch I'll get the spicy combo (3 rolls) for $12. As for the hibachi, it is good, but I've had better. I prefer Trido of Japan if I'm ordering off of the grill. Trido has a much better ginger dipping sauce which is a must for me. read more

Went for lunch and was very impressed. Entire staff was super friendly and attentive. Food was delicious. Had a starter of just a simple salmon roll. I usually tend to go very simple with sushi when it's a new restaurant that I haven't experienced. My entree was hibachi steak with mixed vegetables and the vegetables were perfect and not over cooked (I hate mushy textures of over cooked vegetables). It all had good flavor. Atmosphere was low key, nothing fancy but super clean, well lit and nice. This food does not compare to the quality of Japanese food in Japan, on facebook I see what the Japanese people eat and I get hungry and go to Kimono and it's nothing like Japanese food. It's complete crap for $15.00 it's not even worth it, I think it was like $18.00 when I got out of the door and the food was substandard. I don't mind paying for food if it's gourmet food but it's not good enough. Kaze has way better food for reasonable prices. read more

This was our first visit to Kimono and it sure won't be the last. We ended up ordering four rolls and a plate of steak hibachi. The steak on the hibachi was cooked to medium and was perfectly tender. I have never had good hibachi like this and on top of that it was only 7.99! I ordered the Winston Salem roll and the funky roll. And my boyfriend ordered the Dragon roll and the Vegas roll. One of the best "quick serve" Japanese restaurants I've been too. I ordered the steak with mushrooms. Steak tasted great, and was tender. Mushrooms were excellent. Rice tasted good also. Normally our go to japanese place for the past 7 years. No complains from past visits. Although today we went and placed our order. 15 min later the waiter comes back and said they lost our order and we had to replace it. We do and 5 mins later our food comes out. What's wrong now? Not only is our food overly oily and greasy there was a fly yes a FLY deep fried in our sushi. When we asked if the manager was there to voice our concern the waiter said yes and then we we told her what was wrong she quickly changed her answer saying no manager was on duty today. Was excited to see this place hidden in a strip mall near me!... love sushi. This place has giant menu but sad food. Sushi rolls are mostly rice, little filling. Seawood wrap is super chewy, I've never had that before. Entrees same deal; tiny meat pile, giant rice scoop. And they were out of green tea! Edamane was unsalted and microwaved soggy texture. Prices high for quality. Mailer that comes to my house has coupons for this place so that helped make us less sad. People there are nice but forgot some of our food but tried charging us for it. :( read more

Kimono is my go to Japanese restaurant in Winston. They are consistent and quick. I normally go to the one on country club road, as that one is near my house but this one is near my work. I need to make more trips over there for some sushi but we typically do a large pick up for the office. I typically get teriyaki steak or chicken with broccoli and rice. I just saw that you can do spicy teriyaki so that might be my next lunch order. You can call and go pick up or dine in and not worry about making it back to the office late. read more

I lived in Winston Salem for many years and moved last fall. This is one of the places I miss the most!
