The one thing my friends didn't like was how a drink wasn't included in the ayce menu but the endless ice cream and fried Oreos made up for it. I love a good AYCE sushi buffet. Good ones were hard to find back in the day, but now they are popping up all around town. The restaurant is located on Westheimer and Greenridge. I was a little skeptical when I pulled up as they had security in the parking lot. We came at the beginning of dinner time so getting seated right away wasn't a problem. The restaurant is pretty spacious with lots of seating inside as well as some patio seating. In the middle, they have a sushi bar where you can see the sushi masters at work. The decor and ambience is very nice and a great spot for a date night. Customer service was great though the food took time to come out in each round and was very staggered. They have all kinds of items like soups & salads, appetizers, hot plates, fried rice, noodles, baked rolls, skewers, sushi, hibachi, nigiri, sashimi, rolls, hand, hand rolls, and dessert. There are so many options on the menu and bonus points for describing the items. We had a few items in most of the categories. I really enjoyed the different baos and appetizers. The rolls were good. I will say the sashimi and nigiri were very small cuts. I'd rather get bigger cuts and not have to order things over and over. Our neighbor recommended Kimoto to us. It was close by replacing Applebees. Plenty of parking as it's part of a bigger strip mall. Upon entering , there a lot of different Japanese decorations (lanterns, cat statue, drum etc). Pretty nice IMO. The AYCE is $36.99. One thing that stands out at Kimoto is the quality of their ingredients. The sashimi is served on top of a bow of ice to keep them as fresh as possible. They also do t try to overwhelm you by cutting them giant slices like some other places. It's cut just right size. They have a chef's special nigiri and all are really good. Their appetizers like the hamachi chili, escolar carpaccio and truffle snapper were so good we had to order a second round. In addition, you can order the premium omakase (4 pcs) for an additional $10 and includes Uni. The plates and bowls used looks pretty fancy. My wife noticed and admired them. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Orders came out fast and they made sure our teapot was never empty. Highly recommended. This is probably the best AYCE sushi place in Houston. Being a lover of AYCE sushi, Kimoto caught my eye. The restaurant was very comfy and stylish. Service was very fast, we had 4 people constantly emptying small plates of big variety, and the wait staff was always there to clean the table quickly and bring out what we needed. Let's start with their namesake, the premium sushi. They have the classic rolls and a nice variety of their own specialty rolls. The rolls were pretty good albeit some a bit strange. The part that stood out for me was their choice of hot plates: hibachi, sizzling proteins and more. The hibachi steak was super tender, we enjoyed that one so much that we ordered about 10 portions of it. Surprisingly, I might have enjoyed the meats more than the fish. We couldn't help but notice a lot of their fish dishes had that "fishy" smell and taste to them. Some of those like the salmon have room for improvement, but overall the experience was good enough for me to round up to a 5 star. read more

I've been visiting several AYCE sushi places in the area to compare them directly. The attractive thing about this restaurant is their menu as they have much more variety than their competitors. For example, they have salmon and yellowtail collars as appetizers even though they are more likely to sell out at night. They have many more sushi roll options that don't feature imitation crab or shrimp for those that have a shellfish allergy. They also have salmon toro on the regular AYCE menu and several other premium options as a la carte add ons. What's bad is the portions. Now that may not matter as much in an AYCE but you have to keep in mind that the sashimi cuts and nigiris are laughably small. The rolls are on the other hand are large since they have plenty of fillers. As for the taste, I would say it's about average. The salmon collar tasted nice but the baja roll wasn't that flavourful. The smaller/thin size of the aburi nigiri made the searing mostly cook through the fish which is a negative. The ambiance of this place is that of a traditional izakaya but there are no windows for half of the restaurant. The large enclosed booth kind of hide that but it's disconcerting. My server was nice and I think she was surprised that I wasn't trying to gorge myself on my order especially with the small portions. read more

Service was incredible from the moment we came in til the end, and they take our order and serve it super quickly. 2 hour limit but we were not rushed at all compared to other AYCE spots. Ambiance is very sleek and clean. AYCE menu is $36.60 per person and includes appetizers and sashimi. Fish quality is great- especially loved the mango salmon, truffle red snapper, squid, unagi, salmon sashimi! Rolls also have less rice than usual so it wasn't too filling!! On my quest to try as many AYCE as possible across Houston, Kimoto was our next stop. This sushi spot features an all you can eat menu for 36.99 with a wide variety of appetizers, hot and cold dishes, ramen, hand rolls, specialty rolls, baos, and desserts. They also have a pretty good selection of ice creams. The service was great, despite our waiter have several tables sat at once, he was really attentive and had good humor throughout the evening. We did have a large party so gratuity was already included (18%). The interior was nice, Asian aesthetic throughout and the larger tables were in the back where the sushi was being made. The bathrooms were very clean and it was overall nicely decorated throughout. This was a great experience, their sushi was pretty great and the drinks were 12/10 (strength and taste for the $). The hand rolls here are cut in half and easy to eat, and very tasty. The service is really fast too, we received our first order by the time everyone at the table finished ordering. My favorites from here were the Sakura Hamachi and the smoked salmon. I thought the spicy chopped scallops were okay, they used too much black pepper for my liking. First time visiting KIMOTO during the afternoon. We had been seeing the "coming soon" sign for months, and when we realized it had finally opened, we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was lovely: intimate and cozy. We even had the chance to interact with the owner, who was very kind and optimistic, which made the experience even nicer. Since we went during lunch hours, we enjoyed the $21.99 menu. Drinks are separate, but in my opinion the price is very reasonable compared to other places. I highly recommend the Nojito, I loved it. I also ordered a Cosmopolitan, and it didn't disappoint. I didn't take photos of everything we ordered because we were trying several items, but I was very satisfied and will definitely return to try a wider selection from the menu. Kimoto isn't just good for ayce sushi. It's better than some non-ayce sushi restaurants out there. There's ramen, hibachi, yakitori, and even premium sushi options (for additional cost but not that much more). There's even ayce hamachi and salmon kama, but it's usually sold out by the time I get there. Luckily, I got the last one on my recent visit, and it was perfectly crispy, juicy, and not over cooked. My least favorite item that I've tried so far is the spicy scallop. The color and taste is not appealing and it's the only thing that tastes like it came from a buffet line. My friend didn't care for the ramen either. Service is great. The staff always ensures your table is full with food and never with empty plates. Restaurant is clean and the Japanese lanterns and environment makes it feel like dining at a nice restaurant as opposed to an ayce. read more

He asked if we had dined there before, and when we told him it was our first visit, he took the time to offer excellent recommendations. We chose the all-you-can-eat option, and every dish we tried was outstanding--from the crab and cucumber salads to the appetizers, hibachi steak, sashimi, specialty rolls, and dessert. This may just be my new favorite all you can eat sushi spot. It was well worth the 40 minute drive for a great sushi selection, great service and a beautiful dining experience. When you walk into Kimoto you are greeted by beautiful lanterns scattered throughout the restaurant and different Japanese murals making it feel as if you are in Japan. A big group of us came on Friday with reservations. We were seated right away, no issues with some of our people showing up at different times. Started off with a drink order- I had a lychee mojito- was very refreshing. We ordered lots of apps- the spicy garlic edamame was a highlight for sure! We also tried the bao with beef bulgogi. It was tasty but my bao bun kind of fell apart. The hamachi Kama was another group favorite. We also ordered a lot of the chef special nigiri (seared) the flavor profiles of each one were unique and sooooo flavorful. The truffle snapper* and the caramel salmon were my favorite of that. For chef special rolls we tried a few different ones. I enjoyed the shibuya crossing roll, and the rainbow roll! They have ice cream for desserts as well. The red bean rice cream is the best! I would also recommend trying the sesame balls! They are under apps but have red beans and are more sweet so I had mine for dessert. Having caught wind of this new self-proclaimed "premium" AYCE sushi spot on Westheimer, our eating group eagerly made plans to meet here this past weekend for our monthly sushi outing. Here are my thoughts on what we tried: Appetizers - You'll find all the standard hot and cold apps expected of an AYCE sushi restaurant - highlights that you won't typically see elsewhere are the chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard), hamachi kama, and bao buns, all of which are worth a try! Fried items came out at a good temperature and raw appetizers were prepared and portioned well (if a little lacking in structural integrity). Sashimi - Four of my friends were so bold as to order 1 of every sashimi option on the menu (19 altogether). Presented on a giant shell-shaped platter, no other dish at the table so perfectly captured our gluttony. I opted for a smaller personal plate of sashimi selections and enjoyed their clean, fresh flavor. Nigiri - I'd consider this a highlight of the dinner menu, which includes not only all your classic fishes but also 8 dressed/seasoned/seared "Chef Specials". These were some of my favorite bites and I ended up ordering 1 of each special nigiri both at the start and at the end of my dinner (see photos for visual evidence). For an upcharge, they also offer premium nigiri by the piece, like toro, wagyu, uni, ikura, and foie gras, though I feel that the standard menu is already more than enough to satisfy. Rolls - As a group of 9, we were able to try several rolls without filling up too quickly, though we agreed that most weren't too distinguishable from one another - maybe we're just not roll people :P However, the Shima Blossom really stood out to us with its undertones of herbaceous shiso leaf and fragrant orange zest - definitely pick this one! Hot food - This is a comparatively smaller part of the menu but punches well above its weight. The yakitori skewers were juicy and well-seasoned, the sizzling plates of galbi and pork bulgogi were mouthwatering and savory, and the shrimp hibachi was perfectly seared. A few of my friends split and enjoyed the ramen bowl, though I didn't get a chance to try it. Dessert - Every AYCE sushi spot has the same 3-4 desserts and Kimoto is no exception: choose from ice cream, fried Oreos, and/or cheesecake to complete your meal. Or if you're like my group, hop between sweet and savory to switch up your flavor profiles and keep your palate refreshed to eat more :D What really stood out to me at Kimoto more than any other AYCE was the efficiency and professionalism of the service staff. In the midst of a peak dinner shift, our server handled our avaricious, hunger-driven orders with poise. We had ample opportunities to add more orders and the staff proactively brought out drink refills when they saw we were getting low. I never felt that we were being rushed, and we never had to wait long for food to be brought to the table. This aspect alone has made me a big fan, and I'm excited for a return visit - here's hoping the team here continues investing in its people and service :) read more

Personally I would just stick to the sashimi and crudos, but do try some of their specials at least once. Menu Review: - Hot Appetizers: Skip the galbi because it was a bit hard to eat (tough), the bao bun is so fun and big! I enjoyed it. The takoyaki was hot but did not have enough octopus inside. I didn't like the baked mussels unfortunately. - Nigiri: Chef special ones were pretty good, but the fish to rice ratio for nigiri and rolls was standard, nothing noteable. - Sashimi: The sashimi is good, pretty fresh not fishy! - Rolls: The rolls were not the best in my opinion though. So, I'd also skip the rolls. - Raw appetizers: YES! I literally just spammed the mango salmon and truffle hamachi(?). I forgot the name of the truffle one, but the flavor is immaculate. Truffle oil, salty, sweet, flavorful and delicious. - Desserts: Standard AYCE ice cream with red bean being my favorite flavor. Fried oreos were fun and the cheesecake is actually quite good! Not overly sweet, but has a nice creamy filling. Overall, I would come back for the appetizer (raw) crudos. Philip here!! This place just had their grand opening last week (I think). They did a soft opening for a few weeks before that, but there's honestly not much social media exposure yet. My parents actually heard about it from WeChat and asked me to take them, so we went to check it out. With so many AYCE sushi around, this spot is kind of different but same, same. They have a $10 chef's selection premium sushi (4 pcs), which reminds me of Oma Sushi. The variety is pretty vast comparing to other new AYCE. The place itself looks cute, and the food is solid -- nothing crazy, but definitely decent. The special nigiri was actually pretty good. I may want to come back to try the chef selection. I really wanted to like this place because I had been looking forward to eating here, and the service itself was genuinely good. Unfortunately, my experience was ruined almost immediately. Shortly after being seated, I looked down and found a large roach crawling on my arm. I understand that restaurants can have pest issues, especially during hot weather, and our waiter was very apologetic when I brought it to his attention. However, the experience completely killed my appetite and left me feeling uncomfortable for the rest of the meal. I still tried to give the food a fair chance and ordered several different sushi rolls, ranging from raw to cooked options, but none of them really stood out. Considering the price, I expected much better quality. When we received the check, the manager came over to apologize and let us know our drinks had been comped. While I appreciated the apology, the drinks were only about $3 each, and with the meal costing around $37 per person, I didn't feel the resolution reflected how unpleasant the situation had been. Even a partial discount on the meal would have felt more appropriate. I want to emphasize that the staff was kind and professional throughout the evening, and my issue isn't with the service. Unfortunately, finding a roach on me inside the restaurant completely overshadowed the experience. Between that and the food not meeting expectations, I left disappointed and don't see myself returning. read more

I'm honestly shocked this place is AYCE. The quality at Kimoto AYCE Premium Sushi is way higher than what you'd expect from an AYCE spot. The fish was fresh, the presentation was great, and everything came out quick. Usually AYCE sushi can feel rushed or lower quality, but this felt like a legit sushi restaurant where you just happen to be able to keep ordering. Their kitchen warm dishes were also delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. On top of that, the interior design is dim and premium which makes the whole experience feel upscale.
