    Quick and easy service. You pick your own seating, grab a piece of paper to mark down what you wanna order and take it to the front. Food takes no more than 5-10 minutes to come out. Sushi cuts were very hefty which was amazing ! Very great pricing for sushi. Spent $60 for 2 people and was very full afterwards! Love their scallops here. All the sushi I ordered was amazing!

    Unlimited miso soup and red bean soup. Unlimited hot tea and water. I use to love this place but I feel the quality has gone down. Anyways. We ordered the hamachi Kama and a couple of rolls. I use to drool over their spider roll but now I've transitioned to their dragon roll, I think it's much better. There was way too much rice on all of the rolls. Order at the counter, pick a spot to sit and they will drop off your food when it's ready. Good system. Easy. Busy for lunch but fast service and ample parking

    One of my favorite and goto sushi places in town! For the price to quality ratio, no one has been able to surpass them for me honestly. Located in bellaire, this sushi shop offers some of the cheapest sushi in town for very decent quality. I always end up getting the crazy spider roll (soft shell crab, spicy tuna with fried crumbs on top) here as well as a bunch of Nigiri pieces. Salmon, tuna, smoked salmon, red snapper. Can never go wrong with those. They always taste delicious! For the price point I think most can't complain, it is definitely not the best quality but it has far surpassed many sushi restaurants Ive been to around town. For sashimi they give you very thick slices which I love here. You also get free miso soup! Handrolls here are okay but again... for the price itself, it's great. I think what surprises most of my friends here is the sheer quantity for how much they spend. Ordering 2-3 rolls is pretty guaranteed to fill you up generally, it's so much food for the $ spend. You do have to walk up to the front to order and pay, as well as get your own soup and utensils but this place isn't suppose to be a 'high end sushi' restaurant. It just has a cozy small shop feel to it. I love it! I come here at least once a month and recommend it!

    Hokkaido always hits! Never a dull moment. The staff is always friendly and the food always tastes the same, delicious! We love the crazy spider roll and the chicken katsu as our go to orders and addition whatever we feel like they day depending on what we're craving or how hungry we are. Cozy family style restaurant and get your food almost right away. They have some good salmon that's equivalent to fatty salmon at upscale sushi restaurants for fraction of the price! Love the unlimited miso soup to warm your soul before you dig into your food as well. They also have a hot tea water which I prefer for tap water. There's also a sweet red bean soup for dessert at the end, if you're into that.

    The restaurant was very cozy and welcoming. The value of the meal was the best selling point. When I saw the $7.85 katsu Don bowl, I was expecting a tiny portion, but it was a pretty good size entree. The sushi rolls are cheaper than your chain grocery store sushi but much more tasty and fresh. All coming along with complementary miso soup, bean desserts and tea that you can help yourself to. Although the food can't take my number one, it was still very good, and the price alone is more than enough to earn my 5 stars.

    A friends recommend this place and decided to give it a try. As I heard it's has good sushi for relatively cheap especially fir the quality. The place is self serve. So you have to get your own water, order on a piece of paper, and there's unlimited miso soup. The food came really fast and worker is attentive with picking up finished places and dishes. The place getting packed very quickly especially near dinner time. The place has lots of seating with booth and table seating. It's nice and clean along with no fishy smell. I would definitely recommend and be back.

    I got the chicken katsu don and the spicy salmon roll. Both had great flavors but the chicken on the katsu don was a bit soggy and not as crisp as I was expecting it to be. The establishment also offers complimentary soup, which was delicious. Overall, this is a great and inexpensive place if you're ever craving sushi. The service was good with our food coming out promptly after ordering, but majority of the time you are serving yourself from getting your own utensils, complimentary soup, napkins, and water. You can place orders at the front or with the kiosks provided. The restaurant is fairly spacious and you can sit wherever there are tables available.

    Beautiful delicious amazing Hokkaido I think I love you. Very similar to iwaya in price and fish quality, but I find the nigiri here to be larger - in fish AND rice, which can be a good and bad thing.

    Some restaurants have higher quality fish and sushi with very little rice and clients can leave still hungry. On the other hand, some clients go to affordable sushi restaurants where the quality of the fish or sushi isn't as high but the dishes are affordable and clients leave more fulfilled. Hokkaido is a mixture of both, high quality foods at an affordable price. This is a gem of a place and I am going to be a loyal customer going forward. You can't beat the quality of the food to the price of each dish. Makes me feel the owners have a good philosophical view of, let's feed the people and city, not looking to make a million bucks but to make a difference in the city of Houston. Each nigiri piece averages $1.25-2. The shaggy roll is under $10 and the crazy roll is under $6. Big cuts of fish on all orders of food, nice sushi rice with a higher than normal vinegar taste, nice crispy crunchy from the soft shell crab. Each roll and nigiri comes packed with rice I mean packed with rice so you will leave full. In my opinion too much rice but some people like that. The 2 sushi rolls did come packed with a lot of rice.

    This restaurant is located in the same plaza as Welcome Food Center and there's a lot of parking available. You order at the counter and grab your own utensils, water, and complimentary miso soup. I ordered the Chirashi Bowl, which is sashimi with rice. There was a good variety of sashimi and everything tasted very fresh. I was able to finish everything but it was a good portion size and very filling. The inside is nothing fancy but good value for the prices!

    I love Hokkaido for many reasons. The sushi is bomb and reasonably priced. They provide complimentary miso soup. And the food comes out relatively quickly (this time was an exception). We came in at around 1:30pm on a Saturday, so the parking lot in the plaza was wild and packed to the brim, but we were able to find a spot. The line to order wasn't long and even though it was popping inside, there were still some open tables. I ordered the basic spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls, which came out to be less than $12. It took quite some time for the food to come out, and we had to check in with the front twice. My friend received hers maybe 10 min after ordering, and then my other friend and I got ours 25 min after her. That was almost 40 min of waiting, which is unlike Hokkaido, especially since we didn't order anything big or extra- just sushi. The first time my friend checked in on the status of our food, the lady said it would come out soon. Then after 10-15 more min had passed, I asked the lady again and let her know we had been waiting over 30 min. She seemed to be getting peeved and stated the reason why it was taking so long was because the workers in the kitchen needed to eat... as she proceeded to bring a plate to another table. Idk but today was an off day lol, can't always expect it to be perfect though! The sushi was good, just seemed to be a bit warm. Paired well with the miso soup on the side. They are very generous with the fish fillings, which is a plus! Highly recommend the crazy spider roll!!!

    Yes, they have restrooms.

    There's not really wait unless you go during lunch time and dinner time. It'll be about 5-10 min if anything.

    No. But it's reasonably priced. And also you get unlimited soup and tea if you dine in.

    Is this all you can eat?

    Not a buffet, you order from menu. There's all you can eat miso soup free though.

    I saw many pics of the menu but no happy hour Do they have a Happy Hour menu food & drink specials?

    No happy hour or alcoholic drinks in general, but the food is still cheap compared to other sushi places! Sushi rolls are also a lot bigger than other places, and they have complimentary miso soup and red bean soup that will fill you up.

    Can I call and reserve a table and/or order before i get there?

    I believe there are no reservations but you can order ahead still.

    Do they do to-go/takeout?

    Oh yes they do. A lot of people do this. Call your order in first to avoid long waits.

The smokiness from the mezcal hits you first and then the sweet and creamy after taste takes over. It was so well mixed and I would highly recommend trying this if you are a mezcal lover like me. (9/10) The herbed lavender lemonade was too tangy and sweet for my liking. The lavender flavor get lost in the drink. It tasted like a typical lemonade, nothing special. (5/10) The hamachi crudo was so fresh and I really enjoyed the sweet and tangy broth. I'm not sure I would call it tom kha broth but it tasted good regardless and paired well with the tomatoes. (7.5/10) The chutoro nigiri was SO buttery and melt in your mouth delicious. I would definitely get this again. (8.8/10) The kanpachi nigiri was fresh and I enjoyed the sauce paired with it. It was my first time trying amberjack and I liked it. (7/10) The A5 tartare was super unique and well seasoned. There was plenty of tartare compared to the amount of milk bread you are given to eat it with. The uni, caviar, pate and waygu all mixed together was a decadent combination full of flavor. My only note was the contrast in temperatures that I did not love, the tartare came cold while the milk bread was warm. Overall, a very luxurious and tasty dish. (8/10) The kani handroll surpassed my expectations. Typically I don't go for crab first, but I did enjoy the flavors paired with the crab and the hand roll was well filled. I was weary about getting this roll because I normally don't opt for vegan options, but this king mushroom was so well prepared and the sauce was so delicious that dare I say that I enjoyed this more than some of the fish/meat sushi rolls I've had in the past. The scallop was perfectly charred and cooked and the creamy polenta base with the umami salmon roe, with the fried red cabbage to add texture was amazing. I would definitely order this again. For context, Aiko is part of the same group as Doko (their sushi omakase concept) and Handies Douzo (their handroll-focused restaurant), and you can definitely see the overlap in technique and flavor profiles across the restaurants. We went for the Valentine's omakase menu. The meal started with the Oyster Duo. One had a yuzu granita and aguachile that was bright and refreshing, while the other had a roasted onion soubise with smoked trout roe that leaned richer and more savory. Nice contrast between the two. One of my favorite early dishes was the chilled zaru soba. The buckwheat noodles had a great chewy texture and the mentsuyu broth was light and refreshing with mirin, mushroom, and seaweed notes. It was a really nice palate reset. The smoked ocean trout sashimi (masu) was another standout. It had garlic aioli on top with oil and black pepper, and the tomato added a crunchy brightness that balanced the richness of the fish. It's a simple combination but worked surprisingly well. The temaki course was excellent. The snow crab handroll had this creamy mayo texture with chili and crunchy shallots, and you can tell they roast the seaweed sheets right before serving because the nori had an incredible crunch -- honestly some of the best texture I've had in a handroll. It reminded me a lot of the style they do at Handies. For the hirame crudo with pomegranate and shiso, the flavor was good but a bit more subtle. I think the pistachio really helps that dish; without enough of it the flavors felt a little muted. I know pomegranate and pistachio is a common flavor pairing for middle eastern cuisines. My partner has a tree nut allergy so they removed it for both of us. The wagyu fat rice was very indulgent. The first thing you taste is the wagyu fat, but the fried shallots and other crunchy elements help balance it out. The sauce reminded me a lot of something you'd get at Doko -- rich but very satisfying. Adding fried rice in between fish courses was an interesting choice from the chef, but I think Aiko aims to be more western fusion than a traditional Japanese omakase. The tuna trio was fantastic. The chutoro with negidare (garlic, sesame oil, scallion) was probably my favorite bite of the night -- super flavorful and perfectly balanced. The foie gras course leaned sweet and savory, almost like an eel sauce flavor with some crunch on top. Delicious, but by this point in the progression I was definitely feeling the richness of the meal. Dessert was a milk tea tiramisu that I thought was really interesting. The mascarpone layer had a tartness to it -- almost like there might be a little sour cream mixed in -- and one layer had a subtle salty note that balanced the sweetness. Overall, the food quality was excellent and the fish was clearly very fresh. My only minor critique is that the progression of courses skewed a bit rich for my personal preference, especially in the second half of the meal. That said, every dish was thoughtfully executed and there were some truly standout bites. If you enjoy creative omakase with some richer flavor profiles, Aiko is definitely worth trying.

I also tried the Wagyu pitchfork and I think something that would've made this taste better would be a sauce maybe like an eel sauce. This would also get 3 stars for me. The spicy tuna roll was 3 stars for me and it was more so of the texture of the tuna. The tuna felt like it was stuffed in the roll and was like a soggy texture. Some of the tuna fell out as I was eating it and it also made the seaweed wrap around it a bit moist. I think if you go here you definitely should get the sashimi that way you could actually taste the quality of the fish. I tried the medium tuna and fatty and these were actually what I would expect from a place like this. The quality was there but the other items didn't hit the mark for me. The other item I tried was the Japanese scallop and the scallop was tasty and had that smooth buttery texture. The seaweed again kind of ruined the scallop for me. It felt like the scallop was shoved into the roll and was all soft and squishy when I picked it up.

You spend half the meal trying to identify each note before the dish moves past analysis and settles into feeling. The shrimp toast came first, and it read almost plainly at first bite: cultured tang from crème fraîche, sweet fruit, the faint richness of butter soaking into impossibly thin milk bread. A small herb scattered on top sharpened everything just enough. Then the caviar arrived not as luxury punctuation but as structure, binding the sourness and sweetness into something quieter and more deliberate. At home, these flavors would sit beside one another. Here, they dissolved into each other. Several dishes moved unmistakably toward Vietnamese flavors without ever becoming literal reproductions. The branzino tempura carried the familiar push and pull of nước mắm and sugar, maybe shrimp paste somewhere underneath, though softened into something more restrained. A brown sauce alongside it tasted almost startlingly recognizable: peanut butter, grainy sugar, the kind of sweet-savory depth that recalls satay sauce made in a home kitchen. Overall, I recommend this sushi spot for a contemporary perspective on fine dining sushi. I was surprised to see other cuisines blended in compared to restaurants that are distinctly Japanese. Katami focuses on a story with each individual course, instead of all the plates flowing together. Each dish has a start and finish, it felt like reading a book compiled of mini poems!

From the specials menu, we started with the spicy garlic coconut milk mussels made with fresh Prince Edward Island/British Columbia mussels in a rich spicy garlic coconut cream sauce, topped with green onions and served with toasted ciabatta bread. The broth was incredible and packed with flavor. As an appetizer, we ordered the Texas Wagyu Hot Stone Bowl -- the only rice item on the menu at the time -- made with rice, egg, kimchi sauce, tawan mushrooms, sesame, and green onion. It was prepared tableside for us, which made the experience even more fun and interactive. We also tried the Spicy Soy Ramen with braised ground pork, chili oil, soy milk broth, soft boiled egg, wakame, green onion, and micro cilantro. The flavors were rich, comforting, and had the perfect amount of spice.
