    Union Station

Great location in easy walking distance from Union Station and the Capitol Building ... and much more. Comfortable room. Bathroom looks recently remodeled. Fitness room and light breakfast included. Perfect for a business trip or sightseeing. Reasonably priced for the location.

    Great staff

I have to say my stay here has been very pleasant. I was quite surprised on the facilities here, very comfortable bed, Sheets are amazing, towels are soft and clean. The room was spotless. Staff wet out of there way to ensure I had a good day. Only problem was of the two elevators only one worked. That was the most annoying part as you have to wait 10 to 15 for an elevator. Great location, only a quick walk from Union station and the Red Line.

A block away you get this amazing view.

The front desk and everyone was amazingly friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and the beds really comfortable! Great location if you're coming in from union station.

King room. We had a chair, and handy desk also.?

Great location a short walk from Union Station & the Capital. Our king room was lovely. The marble bathroom with a separate tub & shower was wonderful! Comfortable bed, great sheets. Having an in room Nespresso machine was a lovely touch, as was real classes & coffee cups. I was worried about being near the elevator, but it was very quiet. Our first 2 mornings the breakfast was very sparse, but then apparently a delivery was made & it had plenty of choices. A highlight was the evening wine hour--and front desk staff Sydney was a wonderful hostess. We had fun mingling with the other guests, sharing stories of our day, and getting dinner recommendations. We'll be back!

This gets ALL the stars. Kimpton. Kimpton. Kimpton! Always a pleasure... We stayed here for the first of many DC staycations. Babe and I are celebrating our birthdays. It's V-I-R-G-O season, so you know we just had to stay somewhere official. Accommodations: Premium Room, 1 King Bed with Sofa bed - 8th floor. NICE. Very nice. This room was spotless! Absolutely no dust, dirt, or stains were found during my first of several scrub downs. (I have always traveled with cleaning/disinfectant products.) This was a great first impression for a hotel. One of the great amenities of this hotel includes a FREE happy hour for hotel guests. We arrived in time to enjoy Whiskey Wednesdays. Enjoying wine is still an option. Each room is stocked with @atelierbloem skin and haircare products for your use. There's also a fitness center with plenty of equipment (including a Pelaton!) and workout options to suit your workout needs. The restrooms are pristine. Super helpful staff includes: DANIEL (front desk) - Reservations were made in advance, so my check-in was easy-peasy. He explained the amenities and such, and we were on our way. EPHREM (bartender) - Our gracious host during the weekend happy hour. The set up was done nicely and he explained our wine and spirit options. We already can't wait to return! Pro tip/Gentle reminder: You are near Union Station, so be mindful of the riff-raff in the area. They don't necessarily lurk about in the shadows, but they are present and bold enough to approach you to panhandle. No need for alarm, as this is a typical occurrence in big cities. __ I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

This hotel is absolutely, undeniable AMAZING!!! The George is easily in the top five of the best hotel I have ever stayed, both in the US and abroad! I picked this hotel on a whim and I am so glad I did, my stay was very enjoyable! The decor of the hotel is gorgeous. Personally, I love cobalt blue and gold is the perfect accent to the rich color. All of the decor, pictures, and other accent pieces played well into the George Washington theme. From the lobby, to the hallways to the actual rooms, the color scheme and theme continues. Our actually room was equally gorgeous and OMG, the bed was soooo comfortable! I swear, it was very hard to depart from my bed at checkout time. Thank God checkout wasn't until 12pm, which was also a HUGe plus for me. But the hotel wasn't just appealing aesthetically, the George was also very clean. I was surprised at the cleanliness of every inch of the hotel we touched. With Covid numbers increasing once again, this is of the upmost importance for any hotel stay! Lastly, I was also thoroughly impressed with the staff who were all equally amazing. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. The George is definitely at the top of my list of hotels to patronize for another overnight stay on Washington D.C.!

Though there was a Do Not Disturb sign hanging on the door, housekeeping came back again at 8:22AM and tried to enter again.

My un-hospitable stay at the Kimpton George lasted 3 unfulfilling days. The hotel is wonderful, great property, clean, neat, and slightly boutique. But for whatever reason people were hyper-fascinated with my presence there as a guest, though I spent 90% of the time comfortably inside of my room. Nevertheless, that did not stop the targeted malice of others. One morning, beginning shortly after 8AM, housekeeping tried to enter my room several times between 8:05 and 8:25 - they just kept coming back again and again. I was asleep! I would not engage them because 1. there was a Do Not Disturb sign on my door, and 2. I should not have to wake up, get out of bed, answer the door to strangers to have a conversation with ANYONE! Period! There's a DO NOT DISTURB SIGN! It's there for a reason! Please LEAVE ME ALONE! STOP! And since they kept coming back, refusing to accept that I was not going to engage them under any circumstances, I began to record each time they returned, opened my door, and tried to rattle the door until someone responded to them. Which, in this case, was never, because I refused to. I'm a solo female traveler, I shouldn't be awaken and terrorized by a whole team (there were 3 voices outside of the door) of housekeeping staff at 8 in the morning and made to feel prodded and attacked while a guest at a $400/night hotel. That is just unacceptable on every level imaginable. I can't fathom how all of the people gathered in the hallway outside of my door, discussing why I won't get out of bed and come to the door talk to them while they have used their house key to open it WITHOUT ANYONE'S PERMISSION, felt comfortable terrorizing me, alone in my room, in this way. What horrible people! What on earth man? I called down to the front desk to notify the manager on duty, Ibrahim, that I was basically being harassed by his housekeeping crew, and as a courtesy, Ibrahim did discount my last day there to $380 for the inconvenience. Which I do appreciate. I truly do. And then later that evening my cable went out and the engineer had to come to the room to troubleshoot the TV. And then sometime after that, room service knocked on the door with a dinner that I didn't order. Oh, and can't forget to mention that there were kids roughhousing in the hallway, whom also decided that they would knock on my door and then run down the hall. Except, I happened to get to the door in time to catch one of them - and I happily took a photo of him/her/they/whatever the child's gender is. So since it was on everyone's list of priorities to provide as stressful an experience as possible for me while a guest at Kimpton George, it was on my list of priorities to relay this entire experience to all future guests who are looking to plan a vacation in Washington, DC, and are looking for a peaceful experience at a hotel at the top of its game in hospitality. Best to think ahead before booking at the Kimpton George because that pricey room comes with a side of non-stop drama.

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

Too bad stored blankets were unavailable for sleepers wanting more warmth than their traveling companions. We had to make a second request for one. May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits.

Traveling can be exhausting, and during our stay, my son Colin often went down to the bar and restaurant on his own in the evenings and mornings. He ordered his meals, sat comfortably, enjoyed his time, and never once felt awkward or out of place. The staff made sure he had what he needed, checked in on him naturally, and created an environment where he felt completely at ease. As a parent, that level of care is something you never forget. For me, the experience was just as special. Corey, the bartender, was exceptional. Each evening, he made sure I had exactly what I wanted, when I wanted it, and engaged in thoughtful, easy conversation that made the space feel welcoming and safe. It wasn't just service--it was connection, and it made a long, tiring trip feel restorative. This hotel doesn't just deliver luxury--it delivers humanity. The vibes are opulent- the Peacock Alley is located in the grand lobby, which is massive and airy with a glass ceiling overhead to let in tons of natural light. A harpist also set the mood beautifully, but they didn't stay for very long- they maybe stayed about 30 minutes past our 3:30pm tea appointment. Tea services are offered at 12:00 noon and 3:30pm. The central cherry blossom tree is the showstopper, and the main reason I chose the Waldorf for our afternoon tea. I had heard that there are several cherry blossom-themed afternoon teas all over DC that may have better food options, but this was the only one with decor this grand. My main concern was with our seating. I had called ahead of time to ask if they could accommodate my group to have a close seating location close to the cherry blossom tree due to our special occasion. The staff assured me during two separate calls that they would be able to accommodate our request, but upon getting seated, we were seated in the far corner by the bar. It is true that there is a fair view of the cherry blossom tree everywhere in the lobby, but I was disappointed at our far vantage point given the fact that I had called to confirm a close spot to the cherry blossom tree twice in advance. This is because I wanted to originally schedule the premium experience (premium seating, champagne, and fine china), but it was not available to groups larger than 4 and we were a group of 6. The service was otherwise perfectly fine and the portions of food were generous and tasty. We were all definitely full after finishing our savory bites. Our collective favorites were the chicken cherryaki and crab beignet bites, but we all appreciated the diverse offerings. We also had a friend with a peanut allergy dining with us, and they accommodated her easily by separating her pastries onto a separate tiered tray. It looks like the only item with a possible nut allergen was the crab beignet (her version had tofu). Despite the mild issues with seating, the experience was gorgeous. As a cherry blossom lover, I can see myself doing this every time I'm back in town. - Ambiance: 5/5 - Service: 4/5 - Food: 4/5
