I'm on the last morning of a 13 night stay at Hotel Marlowe, and what an enjoyable experience its been! Geographically, the location is fantastic as you're well placed to walk into Boston proper if you want to, and if you need to cab it to somewhere, the fact that you're just slightly outside the CBD makes it relatively easy to avoid a lot of traffic problems. And the hotel being adjacent to the Cambridgeside Galleria...lets just say that when there's a snowstorm outside it is EXTREMELY NICE to be able to wander down a short path indoors to a three story mall, do some shopping and have a nice warming taco or two. The room I stayed in was lovely, with great furniture, though arguable not as well lit as it could have been (and with a somewhat baffling array of different ways of turning lights on and off, like a puzzle game). As for amenities, the hotel was pretty good, happy to bring me anything I asked for. There's an ice machine on the floor, which was helpful as I was visiting the city for a surgical procedure. The only comment I'd make is that, while there's a list of things you can call down for at any time, a couple of them are items I'd normally assume would be made available in a room (like the hot water jug)...while being able to call down is handy, you don't always want to receive visitors at a time you want to make a cup of tea. Room service was prompt and well cooked, but to be honest the food was a little bit fancy for me on the whole; when I order room service I'm usually looking for well made basics rather than complex dining out food. Oh, and if you're booking this hotel, definitely check out the options available through the Kimpton site, I had a good saving for pre-paying my booking, there's free wifi for reward program members, and a few of the other options available are handy too. On the whole, I've been really happy with my nearly two week stay at Hotel Marlowe, and would definitely consider staying here again should I return to Boston. Thanks Kimpton! read more

I had never heard of Hotel Marlowe until I saw it on a third party booking site. It looked absolutely beautiful and I could not understand why the rate was so low, maybe because it was for a Sunday evening or they needed to fill rooms, but regardless I thought this hotel was great! I came to Boston for the night with my boyfriend for my birthday and I booked a standard king bed room. Upon our arrival at check in we were told we had a complimentary upgrade to a room with a city view (Hotel Marlowe looks over the Charles river and the city, it was so nice!). When we arrived to the room after parking ($25 per car per night to self park and then there is also valet which I believe is $33?) there was a complimentary bottle of wine, 2 bottles of water, and a handwritten card from the hotel saying happy birthday, it was so sweet! At check in, after we got back for dinner and got in the elevator to go to our room, and the next morning at check out, the staff at the front desk said happy birthday it was so nice. Definitely the best customer service I have experienced and I will definitely be coming back. The room was nice and spacious, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and everything appeared to be and felt super clean! The fridge and drawers were stocked with beverages, treats, and other items. All so temping but of course pricey! There were also really cool cheetah and zebra print robes in the closet, but the price on the card said $90! If you join karma rewards (which is free) you receive the free wifi and a $10 bar credit. In the hotel lobby there is a comfortable sitting area which had coffee in the morning, a bar next to the elevators, and complimentary wine hour by the front desk. The hotel was also very pet friendly, so it was cool to see guests walking around the hotel with their dogs! I had a great stay at hotel Marlowe and will definitely be back!! read more

This will always be our top choice when traveling with our dog in Boston! The front desk people are so nice and hospitable and knew our dog by name! We stayed at a kimpton in nyc and it didn't hold a candle to the Marlowe! I want to come back in summer and make use of the kayaks. We were also gifted treats while we were out one day, and they cleaned the room even with our dog inside. Totally wasn't expecting that! I stayed here for two nights (although I'm local to Boston) for a friend's wedding. I have never even paid attention to the Hotel Marlowe and I have certainly never recommended it to anyone before. That said, I will start doing so now as it's affordable, convenient, well-appointed and pet-friendly! The Pros 1. Valet is $30.00 per night (that's only $10.00 more than the parking garage next door). 2. Cost effective! The negotiated rate for the 31st was at $159.00 - that's kind of unheard of for a hotel on NYE. The night prior (the 30th) I added last minute and paid $179.00. Still pretty damn good. 2. The hotel is pet-friendly. I can't tell you the number of times I saw one of the front desk personnel or the concierge holding a random dog and treating it as if it were their own. So cute. 3. I love the art deco charm the place exudes. It's charming in a "throwback modern" kind of way. There are little touches that don't go unnoticed (like the cool mix of the modern granite counter top in the bathroom paired with wooden legs with gold inlay from an old armoire. 4. It's connected to the Cambridgeside Galleria. So if you forget to pack something, you can literally walk to the mall in under five minutes. Without stepping foot outside. Also, if you aren't a fan of hotel coffee, like me, you can get your caffeine fix at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts inside the mall. Both places keep their regular hours and open up bright and early regardless of when the mall stores open). The Cons 1. The water in my room never heated up beyond lukewarm. I took a painful shower and...the worst part was I had to shave my legs with goosebumps. UGH. The next day, however, I had piping hot water. So I didn't complain at checkout since it seemed that the problem was a one-off event. 2. The new TVs they have installed have a hard time staying connected to the satellite. When I was bored and wide-awake at 4:00am...I was unable to enjoy a few episodes of NCIS because the satellite kept going in and out. This, I did mention at checkout, and was told that their engineers are continually working on the issue. I'll definitely be recommending the Hotel Marlowe to my out-of-town friends and family in the future! read more

So I decided to stay here for two reasons: 1) it's on Edwin Land and that road is named after the founder of Polaroid and prolific inventor Edwin Land. and 2) it's a Kimpton so I know that it'd be nice... I think Marlowe markets themselves as an upscale affordable hotel. I was in town for a non-denominational-late-December-company-holiday-gathering and my company had a good rate on Marlowe, and as it was walking distance to our party, we grabbed a room here. Rooms are solid, service was very good. We had a problem where we needed a refrigerator, and noticed it wasn't working only a few minutes before we had to leave for our party. The front desk service (who went to my school in Western MA unbeknownst to me!) had a replacement refrigerator sent up within 5 minutes. My only complaint is that the walls are not thick, and we could hear people in the hallway pretty clearly (which likely meant they could hear us). We were on the top floor at the end of the hallway, so there wasn't alot of traffic so it wasn't problematic, but if we were closer to the elevator we may have been less pleased. All in all, a solid hotel. read more

I love the Kimpton hotel chain. I've stayed at three of their 18 spots, and can only hope I can go and see more in other cities. I came to this hotel as a guest of my friend, who was in town visiting. The room was so plush, the attendants wonderful, the complimentary wine hour lush, and the overall feeling of decadence. My pal was amazed at the space in the hotel and how gorgeous everything was. I approve. The only slight stain was that the hostess manning the wine hour was sour and short tempered. I guess, as the dispenser of free wine, and therefore the most popular person in the lobby, you get run down rapidly, especially when your staff does not bring in fresh glasses. read more

Reserve them early. My wife and I took out a double kayak for an early morning ride along the Charles River. Absolutely stunning trip! Oh. I forgot about the wine reception in the lobby at 5pm everyday. For nearly half the price of the downtown hotels this was a great buy. Love the hotel and the staff! Everyone is so friendly here - it felt like home in Cambridge. The location is fantastic. I took a duck tour - the pick up was at the Museum of Science, which is a short 5-min walk from the hotel. Check out the wine hour and relax in the lobby. I'll be suggesting this hotel to anyone looking for a nice, more affordable place. If you forgot anything, like a toothbrush, razor, or shaving cream, just call down to the front desk and they'll bring it up to your room. Hotel Marlowe is a Kimpton aka PIMPton resort. Why is it so pimpin'? Go stay there a night and check it out for yourself. Every room and suite is Austin Powers chique, replete with leopard print everything. They throw in a zebra printed robe for extra measure. The indoor courtyard / traffic circle is a nice touch, which makes drop off and pick up hassle-free. There's always a taxi waiting there too, who'll be ready to drive you at the attention of the doorman's whistle. Whenever I'm in Boston and need to stay in a hotel, I try to reserve a room at Hotel Marlowe. If you book early enough, you can generally secure a double for less than $200 a night, tax included. For that amount, the service is excellent. Check out is 12pm, but they are usually accommodating when a late check out is needed (for whatever interesting reason you may have). Even though it is located in Cambridge, it's quite convenient. The hotel is attached to the Cambridge Side Galleria, so if you need to paak yah caah, make sure to park for less than 10 hours at a time on a weekend day to take advantage of the $3.99 fee to mall goers. If you're an InTouch member, you might even receive a $10 comp for the mini bar. read more

Marlowe is a boutique hotel that is adjacent to the beautiful Cambridge Side Galleria Mall. It's actually one of the Kimpton Hotels. I read a review that said that the room was about $325... DAMN! I can't believe they charged so much! I stayed at Marlowe a few times and never paid that much. You can use your AAA discount, if you have one. But even without one, unless you stay in a jacuzzi suit with the view of the river, you shouldn't have to pay more than $150-$170. In any case, I'm partial to Marlowe. I got married there and yes, I adore it. The hotel/room design is so unique for Boston. We are used to more Conservative New England hotels, with the dark mahogany furniture (with a few exceptions, of course). Marlowe is super-funky with its leopard print carpets, pillows and robes. You can request a yoga kit...and if you create a profile with Kimpton Hotels (online), they'll have your preferences on file when you check in and make sure everything is done to your liking. You can park in the Mall's garage. They don't validate parking, but the charge is not too high - I think it was about $20-$22/day. You don't have to go outside to get into the Mall. And if you can't live without your pets, bring them along, they have special rooms for those who want their pets to stay at the hotel as well. read more

This place rocks. I went to a party in one of the rooms here this spring and it was awesome. Fur blankets on all the beds, jungle like animal print carpeting and wall-paper. Very funky. Reserved the room through Hotwire which gave it a 100% thumbs up and 4.5 stars. Clean, beautifully appointed boutique hotel. Delicious coffee in the lobby in the morning. Room was average sized and overlooked the courtyard which gave a closed in feeling. The exterior rooms overlook the river. Attached to the Galleria shopping mall, and since we stayed Thanksgiving night it made Black Friday shopping convenient. Parking $20/night for self park(which was easy) or $30/night for valet. The rooms are nice. The service is not great at all. Our five night stay has not started off very good. Upon arrival we packed all our suitcases onto there cart. The doorman brought it in asked if he could help I said ok , and gave him our room number. After waiting a very long time I went downstairs and saw our cart just sitting there. I asked if I could just take it. They said ok they weren't sure who it belonged to. At that point the front desk man asked if he could help me upstairs, I said no at that point I would just take it. Our room was reserved for four people yet there was only one washcloth and three towels. We called for more things and they never came. To say the least I'm a bit disappointed. read more

Originally discovered for their pet-friendliness, we kept going because of the location (near the highways AND attached to the Cambridgeside Galleria), the price (great winter prices!), and excellent customer service. I love the free nightly wine hour, free dog bed/dishes, free toiletries, free WIFI, free goodies from the minibar, super-comfy bed, and animal print robes. Bring your dog! I chose this hotel because it was dog friendly. I did not expect it to be so top of the line in every aspect including it's treatment towards dogs. It's over the top pet friendly. Your dog's name will be posted on the pet welcome board on your way in. There is a bowl of water and dog biscuits for your pooch. They give you a nice fluffy dog cushion for the dog's bed and a tag to put on your door so housekeeping knows not to let the dog out when they come to clean. Bring your pooch to happy hour. My first yelp review for a reason. Absolutely incredible. I was just moving into town and showed up with not only my puppy (60lb mix), but also a car with a (rather unsightly) luggage carrier on top. Since the carrier couldn't lock, they parked the car right up front in their circle for me, even though my loaded down volkswagen didn't fit in with the land rover and BMW on either side. In addition, and this is what really set them apart, the service is unmatched. You'd swear you were in a 5-star hotel. They took great care of my dog, catered to our every need, and were all smiles the entire time. When we wanted to go out to dinner at a nice restaurant, they offered to watch him behind the desk and pampered him the whole evening. I've really seen nothing like it, and especially not in a hotel like this! Even pets aside, their service is incredible, an absolute recommendation for anyone in the Boston area. read more

I stayed here when in town for the Boston Marathon. It's beautiful. Beautiful seating areas everywhere, wine hour with a appetizer and there is attention the the little details. My husband was able to upgrade us to the presidential suite and it was great. Being a runner in the race I was able to take part in all the extra accommodations. The restaurant took part in giving an $25 all you can eat pasta dinner. It was pretty good. Ended up taking some to go back to my room. Epsom salts for the bath. On race day they had water by the entrance and a runners breakfast starting at 5am consisting of bagels, granola bars, energy bars, and cereals... Probably had more but I rushed by just grabbing some energy bars. After the race the had water and energy bars by the entrance and a free glass of champagne in the restaurant for runners. Definitely will be staying again! read more

Good, not great. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place, but for the price, not awesome. Friendly, clean, and a great location but at $350 for one night there's another star to earn. Service was quick at the desk and the room was nice. I appreciated how quiet the hotel was and it's proximity to the university, shopping, and restaurants was nice. All that being said, I have limited experience in the Boston area, but would stay here on my next trip to the area. The room was very clean and many staff members would engage me in conversation and wish me a good day, evening, etc. I appreciate that alot and it really sets them apart. read more

My husband and I stayed here a little while back to visit some friends in Boston. Staying in downtown Boston was a bit too expensive and while my first choice would have been to stay at another Kimpton hotel "Nine Zero", that was too much to spend for this trip so I decided to try another Kimpton hotel in Hotel Marlowe and I was not disappointed. When you first walk in, much like Nine Zero you know this isn't an ordinary hotel, and I do love boutique hotels. The decor is very different, the staff is very friendly and the daily cocktail hour with free wine is a nice touch. I was worried being a pet friendly hotel would mean the rooms might not be as clean as I like, but they were immaculate. The furnishings were different, modern and very nice. All the modern conveniences you could want and the best shower ever, with 6 shower heads. The bed was so comfortable and the room was incredibly quiet. Even if it meant not staying in downtown Boston I would gladly stay here again. It's well worth the price and saves you money as opposed to staying right in downtown Boston. read more

I spent a lot of time trying to find the right hotel to celebrate an anniversary. After searching for a while, I enjoyed that people who stayed at Hotel Marlowe took the time to say how much they enjoyed their stay. I selected the hotel for a 4 night stay and loved every moment. From housecleaning to the front desk everyone was so pleasant. I was able to enjoy all parts of the city due to its location and when it was time to relax I enjoyed a beautiful city view. To top it all off, when I arrived from a very long flight with poor customer service I was greeted with champagne and fruit with a kind note to celebrate a very special time in my life. I've stayed at all the top hotels in Cambridge including 7 nights at the Charles, 2 nights at Marlowe, and 1 night in Sheraton. I'd say either the Hotel Marlowe or Charles are excellent choices in Cambridge. Sheraton is nice, but a somewhat smaller hotel. The best for you will honestly depend on geography, not anything within control of the hotel staff. I received a complimentary fruit dish with a personalized thank you note. That personal touch means a lot. The hotel industry is notoriously difficult to satisfy everyone, but this comes the closest to an ideal experience. read more

Even though this is my first time review but it cannot stop me giving a lowest rating. We arrived around midnight and the receipt desk first messed up our reservation claiming we only booked 3 nights instead of 4 nights; then they figured out they were wrong and assigned us a room. We went up and down 3 times because the key card did not work. After one hour of waiting they told us they cannot give us another room because "the system shut down" and cannot activate the key so the reception desk guy escorted us upstairs again and used their key to open the door: it ended up there were already customers sleeping there. Both sides were shocked. Now after one and half hour we are still waiting. Their online website shows they still have available rooms tonight and I don't know if there is any excuse for us to wait for such long. Long words short, don't choose this hotel if you care your life. update: we got a room upgrade the next morning with an apology card and fruit plate in the room, which is more reasonable. I hope I don't need all this to make up my experience next time. read more

The Kimpton in Cambridge is definitely a hotel I'd recommend to a friend. It's affordable, there's a great view, and you're seconds from the Lechmere T in case you want to say no way jose to driving for the weekend. We drove down and I decided to park my car in the Cambridgeside Galleria parking, which is available to Kimpton guests, and it's only $20.00 for unlimited parking for the weekend. Pretty good deal considering some of the other outrageous options out there. We didn't need the car during the day but at night when we went to dinner we could drive easily to the restaurant and come back to the hotel. It was great and stress free. Upon check in an adorable dog met us (I believe his name was Captain?) and we were greeted warmly by the staff. I reserved our stay through a third party site and contacted the hotel before arrival to make sure we would be given a king instead of two separate beds. We in fact received a king with a view of the park and river - it was lovely. They also have wine time - I believe at 5pm, and you can enjoy glasses of red or white down in the lobby for free! Definitely a perk in my book. The hotel was clean and comfy - everything in the room was to our liking. The cheetah robe was a BIG highlight for me. I had one gripe and that was, because I reserved the room through a third party site, I had already paid for the room. I wasn't aware of this having not looked at my credit card statement at the time of check in, so when I went to check out and the girl at the counter asked for my credit card to charge it, I said OK. The next day when I was back at home, checking my bank statement I noticed that the third party reservation site AND Kimpton, charged me separately for the room. Obviously I still needed to pay the $20.00 for parking but twice for the room was a mistake. I contacted the manager directly and had the second charge for the room removed that day and it was off my statement within the week. Good customer service. Thanks Kimpton! For those of you from the Bay Area, the Hotel Marlowe is part of the Kimpton Hotels chain and has the same kind of style and personality of the Hotel Palomar, Serrano Hotel, and the Sir Francis Drake. Of the 3 SF properties, it reminds me of a slightly less swank version of the Palomar. If you are a boutique hotel fan, you'll like the Marlowe. It has a few interesting touches (animal print robes, interesting throw pillows, and a fancy duvet). It was not an awe-inspiring boutique hotel, but it was certainly solid and I enjoyed it. I am keeping the 5th star due to location (there isn't a whole lot near the hotel save the Galleria) and the fact that I wasn't as wowed by the Marlowe as I was by other boutique hotels I've checked out. If you can spare the money (or your company can), I'd recommend the Nine Zero as a more swank boutique experience. The Marlowe is a good deal for the money, though. read more

Hotel Marlowe is certainly not a cheap stay; the parking charge of $20 a day is a bit much and they tend to charge for pretty much everything. But...honestly...IT'S WORTH IT!!! The Hotel Marlowe is walking distance to a mueseum, connected to a mall with Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Changs, an incredible Thai restaurant, and it's only a few minutes drive from everything you would want to visit in Cambridge/Boston. It took us about 10 minutes to drive to Beacon/Copley Square/Newburry. The breakfast at the Hotel marlowe is incredible, and their dinner is very good too. The room is incredibly comfortable, and other than the awkward bathtub knob that apparently requires a rocket scientist to figure out I cannot think of anything negative about this hotel. I will come back, and I can't think of a reason to use another hotel when I travel to the Boston/Cambridge area. read more

Two nights and everything was great. Join the Klimpton club and they'll give you $10 worth the mini bar and $ off next time you stay. The hotel is decorated as if it was by one of the lighting places in New Orleans but it's okay. Modern kitsch and it's done fairly tastefully. The rooms are quite large, the concierge and doorman are exceptionally friendly. The bar downstairs is good, okay as a restaurant, nothing to write home about. But for the value in Boston and as a great location (close to MIT and Harvard and a few minutes from downtown), it's superb. Beautiful views of the river for an extra $35 a night. Asked my wife what she thought and she said next time, just take one of the less expensive rooms on the inside of the hotel. After all, how much time do you spend looking outside. Needless to say, I would highly recommend it. Less expensive than the Royal Sonesta next door and appointed equally well. The featherbed was wonderful! You're not next to any Irish pubs or Italian restaurants here but it's within walking distance to Abigail's which was actually a highlight of our trip for its food and oysters. We've stayed here a few times and love this hotel. We chose it because it's pet friendly. The Staff: You would be hard pressed to find a nicer staff at any hotel. They are genuinely friendly and happy to help make your stay perfect. Our four legged children were not merely accommodated, they were warmly welcomed and treated as well as us humans. Just can't say enough nice things about the staff here, they are simply the best. The Rooms: very well appointed and extraordinarily comfortable. Nicely sized and the decor is modern and tasteful. I was pleasantly surprised to find a soft doggie bed and food and water bowls in our suite for our dogs last time we stayed. That was a very nice touch. The rooms are clean and the details are thoughtful. The Hotel: very convenient to shopping and dining. The hotel also has a restaurant that is very good. Parking is easy and readily available if you don't care for valet service. If you're traveling with dogs, there is a nice park adjacent to the hotel to walk them in. The Science Museum is also within walking distance. I have no complaints. None. Zip. Zero. Nothing but love for Hotel Marlowe. read more
