Staff is overly eager to please, which is nice. But also annoying at check in after you've confirmed you have stayed here before, they continue to ramble on with the amenities. When I'm in town for business, I stay at the Monaco. It's conveniently located 1.5 blocks from the Light Rail - University Stop and just a few short blocks from downtown Seattle. The front desk service is 5 stars. The rooms are a bit small, but I'm usually only in for a night. There is free wifi in the room if you're a Kimpton member. I wanted to stay another night! I had pretty high expectations going in, several people had told me about it and recommended it and now I will do the same. I think it was in a great location, I'm not someone that's too familiar with Seattle, but for a weekend in the city- it's central and just a block or two from some fabulous restaurants. And easy walking distance to the Pike Market if you're going to visit it. The rooms were spotless, the beds (which were big!) were very comfortable and they had great linens and pillows. Bathrooms were a nice big size as well. They had a great breakfast, plenty to choose from and if you just want your Starbucks for the morning (since it originated in Seattle of course haha), it's just one door down on the left when exiting the hotel. The staff were friendly and personable which is always a major plus for me when I'm vacationing. When we arrived we used the valet to park our car, we hopped out, checked in and were greeted with wine because they host a "wine hour" in the evenings, starting at I believe 5pm. If that's not a warm welcome then I don't know what is! Just next to the lobby is a big restaurant and bar area. After dinner we returned to the hotel to sit in the bar, to enjoy a nice hot tea before bed. read more

My mom stayed here when she visited me in the city, and I'd recommend it to anyone coming to town for a spell, that has a few bucks to plunk down. The Monaco is totally comfy and cute...they have yoga mats and goldfish in every room. The staff is amazing...when mom checked in late and told them her sob story about how her flight was delayed (13 hours!) they upgraded her to a suite! read more

I love dogs are allowed. you can also get a doggies upgrade with a bed and leash and doggie bag. There are gold fish for petless in Seattle peeps. They have even had doggie fashion shows and dinners with owners outside dining. They are friendly and helpful for anyone not familiar with the area. 5 stars in my book. read more

I travel for work weekly, and LOVE the Kimpton chains. This was my first time at the Monaco Seattle, and I loved everything about it! My great room was spacious, comfy, great view and came with my own goldfish, Mary, as a companion. The staff was excellent, they brought me chocolates and a small bottle of wine to welcome me. The hotel is at a great location, close to Pike street, lots of shopping, great restaurants and tons of coffee spots for the morning. Likely to be more adult friendly because they have an open bar Ferron 5-6pm and it seems to be bottomless. This property has a very nice and friendly staff, unique style and is in a convenient location for business traveler in Seattle. The property was renovated 4-5 years ago and for the most part is still "fresh" but there were a few fixtures I noticed nearing the end of their useful life. Enjoyed the evening wine hour (on Wednesday, as a bonus, the on-site restaurant has appetizer pairings) and coffee in the morning. Stayed here for proximity but would gladly return in the future. And Megan H. is full of it. No way the awesome staff here would shout at a business partner over the phone. Colin met us at the door and our first impressions of the Monaco were instantly top notch. The room was clean. Wine hour was great, and even though Sazerac was under construction we were able to get a side plate for an impromptu cheese plate my girlfriend and I assembled at the nearby Pike Place market. All-in-all, nothing truly overwhelmingly negative aside from the noise and the fact the bed and pillows are horrendous. The staff is pleasant with the exception of the valet, but not overly hospitable. I'd rate the hotel as a 3 Star Hotel and thus my Yelp rating is the same. The Pros: The hotel is conveniently located with easy valet service. Note the lobby is very small and I did a late evening check-in. During the summer or busy season I'm sure it would be very unpleasant. That said, my check-in was quick and painless. The lobby and room was well laid out and tastefully decorated. The in-room dinning menu is on the tv which as a techie seems like a good way to do it. They did keep my car and luggage for a full 10 hours after I checked out which was incredibly convenient for me that day. The Cons: There was no signs to indicate which way my room was once I reached the floor, an odd oversight. The mattress is really uncomfortable and hard. If you enjoy lying on plywood you'll love it. The pillows have no give either, I tried all of them and was left with the choice to sleep without one or with my neck at an uncomfortable angle. More of weird than a con; the front desk woman texted me to see if I needed anything. I didn't consent to receiving text messages. There's no coffee maker in the room. The bathrobes seemed to have been made from burlap sacks that were dyed in an attempt to hide the coarseness of the material. The TV remote mostly worked, perhaps it was old. The food is terribly overpriced for the quality and the selection of items is very limited. My room was in the corner with two other rooms very close by; the occupants of which went in and out frequently early in the morning. The doors slam closed and that woke me up. Aside from that I couldn't hear my neighbors. Checkout went smooth, but at no point did anyone ask how my stay was, offer coffee (since the rooms have none) nor any manner of civilized hospitality. I couldn't find my cash, which I felt horrible about being unable to tip the valet, but his attitude about it did not strike me as being professional. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting from Boston for 3 nights and chose Hotel Monaco because it's part of the Kimpton family. We loved our stay here! We had a king bed in a suite, overlooking 4th Avenue. The lobby is nicely decorated with plenty of seating, and they offer complimentary wine from 5-6 pm which we went to twice. The gym is relatively small, but has the usual cardio machines and free weights, with additional medicine balls, exercise balls, with one multi use weight machine. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly as well, making the stay that much more enjoyable. One day we experienced rather loud neighbors, and Elias at the front desk quickly addressed the issue. The hotel is also dog friendly, and they advertise a cute puppy named Alex who frequents the hotel, but we unfortunately did not get a chance to meet him. Overall, this hotel is very lovely and accommodating. We recommend! read more

What a fun place to stay in Seattle! Location could Not be better. Everywhere we wanted to go was walkable. We stayed in a lovely suite on the 10th floor which was roomy enough for two adults. The sofa bed was comfy but not out-fitted with enough warm bedding for this time of year (my son didn't let me know or I'm sure it would have been quickly corrected!). Walls to adjoining suites are a bit thin though & noisy guests can be easily heard, unfortunately... The Happy Hour was welcome every night, the restaurant very good, and did I mention Ben, the fabulous concierge? Tables, tickets, & a warm welcome, what more could a traveler need? read more

Very nice Kimpton property in a good location. We had a large room with 2 queen beds on the 11th floor. Loved it! The doormen, front desk staff and room service staff were all very friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The happy hour during the day is also a nice touch. Beautiful large rooms tastefully decorated with floor to ceiling stripes. Perfect for lounging in your leopard print robes. This hotel made me loyal to the Hotel Monaco brand. Definitely a boutique among boutiques. When I stayed there they had wine tastings in the lobby which was great. Pike Place and the mall are a short walk away. There is a library across the street. Breakfast at the restaurant downstairs was fantastic. Get the pet goldfish if you can! read more

Over rated, house keeping knocks on the doors before 8, asking when can they turn room. Out of cream for coffee by 830 am, street noise tough to take on 3rd floor. Also, if you like loud pipes, everytime someone flushed, or washed you could hear it. If you are over 40 this is not a good place for you. read more

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Monaco in Seattle for our anniversary. We are a gay couple and were happily surprised at how well we were treated. Our room was upgraded free of charge and they even sent up a bottle of champagne with chocolates for us. It's sad that gay people usually don't get treated the same as heterosexuals, but in the case we did, and I say bravo Hotel Monaco for showing us the same respect. Peter the concierge was very accommodating and kind, as well as the lady at the front desk and the valet guys. The hotel was clean, classy, art was modestly art deco, the bed was comfy, the hotel was fairly quiet. What makes a hotel a five star one is details. They first had us at the beautiful decor and then at the zebra toy chest for the kids :) when we came into our rooms we saw these cute little goldfish. Then in 5 mins, another goldfish came :) now we have two! The decor is gorgeaus and the full sized toiletries are amazing! The restraint is good but the ribs were spicy. The wine and beer tasting was a nice touch. The only bad thing was that our space heater wasn't working and we had to go to another room. We kinda sorta got downgraded...our clothes chest was 50% smaller. But I lived this place !!! read more

Had a great one night stay at the Monaco. It is a few blocks from the light rail to the airport and within waking distance of all the downtown Seattle sights. Check in was smooth. We arrived on the AM and they held our bags so we could enjoy the city. The front desk calked when our suite was ready. We even had a goldfish per our request to keep us company. Loved the wine tasting happy hour (which also offered beer by the way). Rooms were quiet. We should definitely stay again at Kimpton!!!! read more

I really hate to give this hotel 3 stars. Our room was nice and was a good size but the bed was terrible. It is the worst bed i have ever slept in...well lack of sleep because its so bad. If the bed was good then i would easily give this place 4 or 5 stars but as i write this my back hurts from this bed! Prior to here i had stayed at the hotel vintage in portland...the bed there was great! The wine hour was great as were the employees. Location was great and we walked everywhere. Great hotel right in the heart of downtown Seattle. This was my husband and I's first stop on our honeymoon and at this point we were without a car. Great location. Funky, mismatched furnishings, plush bed and linens. Our stay was very comfortable. The room was large although the sitting room/living room was dark and not all the lamps worked. I appreciated the green efforts at recycling and conservation. The bell hops were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping missed cleaning our room twice during our week-long stay, but when they came through the cleaning was thorough. Wish there would have been a microwave in the room. The fridge and coffee maker were much appreciated. All in all, it was a good place to land. read more

We recently stayed here for 4 nights. We had a late flight in to Seattle, so we checked in to the hotel at around 11pm. I will say that the first night was pretty rough. There was a lot of noise coming from above us. Clanking pipes and banging noises. We brought this to the attention of the front desk, and they already knew what we were talking about as there was construction going on in the kitchen above us. I'm not sure why they would do the construction at night as it is a hotel (I would think it would make more sense to do loud work during the day time). The front desk was very apologetic and let us know to call them if it kept us up and they would go tell the workers they need to stop for the night. We ended up having to call down to see if they could stop the workers for the night. The noise stopped shortly and we were able to sleep. The next morning at around 10:30am we received a call from Heather (I think) at the front desk letting us know that she found another room for us so that we wouldn't have to deal with the noise for the rest of our stay. She immediately sent someone up to us with the new room keys. The new room was much more quiet and we did not experience any more noise issues for the duration of our stay. We were very impressed with how the situation was handled and by the level of customer service provided by the front desk. They were able to turn what could have been a bad experience into a good one. As others have mentioned the mattress isn't the most comfortable, but it definitely didn't keep me awake or anything like that. The location of the hotel is pretty good and not too far of a walk from anywhere you may need to get. I think we would consider staying here again in the future as the only real issue we had seems like it would be a one off situation since I don't think their is construction in the kitchen year round. read more

As with all Kimpton properties I've stayed in, the Hotel Monaco takes the cake. Seriously. If you're in Seattle (or any city Kimpton has a hotel), stay there. Not only are they all top flight, but they offer a complimentary wine tasting every evening from 5 - 6 pm and complimentary tea and coffee in the AM. The Monaco is centrally located in downtown Seattle on 4th St between Seneca and Spring. The hotel offers valet parking and the service was always prompt and responsive. The Monaco is located just blocks from the historic Pike Place Market and downtown shopping district, as well as a quick walk to the Monorail that will take you over to Seattle Center and the Space Needle. Hotel staff at Kimpton hotels - and Monaco is no different - are always top notch. Polite, efficient, and friendly. Checking in is always a breeze. We originally reserved a premier queen room, but were upgraded to a premier king. I'll never complain about having a larger bed and more room to stretch out. Our room was clean and large and the decor was modern and tasteful. My only complaint was the apparent lack of a printed hotel directory/information -- I had to call the front desk twice to a) inquire about laundry service (they offered, and would normally pick up in the room, except it was Memorial Day) and b) the location of the gym. As someone who travels with a smart phone, an iPad, and usually a laptop (and with my wife, we often have two of everything) I appreciated the tasteful, round, multi-outlet device that gave us 5-6 electrical outlets to charge up all our assorted electronics overnight. It definitely saved us from having to fight over the plugs. The gym at the Monaco is very, very basic. A stair climber, treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bike, along with one set of dumbbells, but they only go up to 40 lbs. No strength machines at all. Overall, decent for just hopping in the treadmill to work off the last nights dinner and cocktails, or doing a body weight calisthenics routine, but you won't be doing any serious training here. Overall, I was very pleased with the Hotel Monaco and will definitely stay here again the next time I am in Seattle. read more
