How is it possible that I dropped off my new suit to be taken in, gained 5 pounds over Thanksgiving break, then went and picked it up and its now bigger on me than when I had dropped it off? The seams look like crap and I can clearly see where they were let out. I said TAKEN IN. read more

My husband found an Armani suit at a thrift store which was about 2 sizes too large for him but the price was too good to pass up, so he took it to Kim's for alterations. The suit came out 1 week later looking perfectly tailored and quite dashing. At the same time, I found a fun skirt and matching jacket at the same thrift store. It was a bit outdated in style, so I took it to Kim's and had the skirt and jacket shortened, the jacket taken in and the shoulder pads removed. Thanks to Kim's craftsmanship I have a brand new unique outfit for work! The revamp of each suit was about $50-60 but needless to say we were very happy with the quality of work here and will definitely be back! read more

I really don't understand the positive reviews for this business, which are the reason I tried it. My advice is to stay far away! I brought three pairs of pants to Kim's on a Wednesday to have the waist taken. and one of those to be hemmed. Without my asking (since I was not in a hurry for the pants), Kim volunteered that they would be ready on Friday. I went back to pick them up Friday afternoon and was told they weren't ready because it wasn't after 5:00. She had not that they would be ready on Friday. So I had wasted a chunk of time on this trip, in a 14-hour-a-day workload. I went back when I could to pick them up and tried them on when I got home. There was something wrong with every pair. On the pair that was to be hemmed, one leg was two inches too short, more than an inch shorter than the other, and the longer leg was an inch short (think clown pants). I'm not exaggerating at all; I measured them before I took them back. I called Kim that day and told her about the hem, and she said she would fix it. I told her that my schedule was absolutely packed that week and there was no time for me to stop by, so it would be the next week. She said fine. I went in the next week to have the hem fixed. I happened to notice on the ticket she gave me that she had put a $15 charge on it. I pointed out that she was fixing her mistake, and that there shouldn't be any charge to me. Then she denied that she had done the work, saying that wasn't her hemming! When I said it certainly was, she said I must have washed them a lot! Now really. Washing pants doesn't make one side more than an inch shorter than the other one, and I hadn't washed the pants, particularly since they were now too short. I showed her the receipt I had for the $75 I had paid for the three pairs of pants so she could find the item on the computer, and she grabbed the receipt out of my hand. We both looked at the itemization on the computer, and it was clear that that was the pair that had had the waist altered and the hem done. She kept denying she had done them. After arguing with her for a few minutes, I was getting upset and just wanted to leave. I told her to give me back the receipt and I'd take them somewhere else. She refused to give me back my receipt for the $75 payment I had already made for the work on the three pairs of pants! Up till that point, I was just going to write off the whole experience and wasted time and ruined pants. But stealing the proof of purchase receipt from a customer is crass and unprofessional. Fortunately for me, I have an itemization on my bank account if I had wanted go to small claims court, but what if I hadn't had that backup? Does she think that stealing the receipt would prevent me from taking action? Of course not; it just makes me more likely to do so because of her rude behavior and deliberate avoidance of making the situation right in an ethical manner, all of which just further stress and irritate me. I don't have the time or energy to go to small claims court; I just need my pants. All she had to do was re-hem the pants, and I would have left with a fairly positive feeling about her business (although I would not have returned) and we could both have moved on. First, I do NOT recommend this business's work; the waist in the other two pants was not right (one still too loose, the other way too tight in the hips, which shouldn't have been touched), and the third pair was beyond ridiculous with both legs too short, and one leg much shorter than the other. Second, everyone makes mistakes, and if she had just re-hemmed the pants, all would have been forgiven, but she did not back up her work. Third, lying about doing the pants was just infuriating. Fourth, physically withholding a customer's previous receipt after they have already paid you is just so unprofessional and rude, and for that alone, I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. So unless you want to have a lot of your time wasted, and receive poor work and rude, unprofessional behavior, you might want to stay away. read more

When you call and ask for an appointment to have a dress fitted for alterations and you are told to come in "any time from 8 to 6" it is EXTREMELY upsetting to find that the tailor is gone most of the day. Poor service, Kim. read more

Absolutely awful and terrible. I read the poor reviews, took a chance, and lost. I figured being a guy and having some simple requests, would increase the chance I'd have nothing short of a fantastic experience. I was wrong. I went in, had a three piece suit that I wanted the waist let out, and the vest let out. Took her I believe just short of two weeks. It was for a wedding, when I went to pick it up, she didn't let the waist out all the way. But I had a wedding to go to, so I ran w/ it, and told her when I got back, she needed to redo it. When I did, she did redo it, it came out fine, whatever ok. The main problem is she charges almost 100% more for her services. I have had my local shop do tons of tailoring on things I didn't care about, this was an Armani Suit so I wanted to take to someone who specialized in tailoring. I was wrong, I could have taken it to the dry cleaner down the street, the guy would have fit me for it, had it done in 3 days, it would have been done correctly the first time and it would have been 80% cheaper. My advice, find dry cleaner that does the most volume in your area, check their ratings, try a few items out on them, then run with them OR pay the extra and go to a real high end tailor in the city, this is not one of them... read more

Fast professional pants hemming at reasonable prices. Kim was honest to tell me I didn't really need my suit jacket shoulders tailored (she was right), so I appreciate her integrity. Nice plus that they're open on Saturday too. read more

I brought my dress for my sister's wedding here...and Kim did a gorgeous job. She is incredibly skilled. It was also very reasonable - I had 30 (yes 30!) buttons replaced, the dress shortened, and the sleeves replaced completely and it totalled $90. I was so happy with how it turned out and I am so excited to wear the dress. I will definitely be back next time I need something altered. read more

I'm sorry to say that Kim's was a great disappointment. Because of all the good reviews she got I took in a jacket to have the sleeves shortened which required shortening from the top of the sleeve. She didn't even complete the stitching under the arms when she replaced the sleeves. There was a big gap. At the same time I also brought in a pair of pants to have the waist taken in. She left all the extra material and seams exposed. It was so unprofessional that I wouldn't even bring them back for her to redo. I have to wonder if Kim even did the work herself since other people had such a good experience with her. Very puzzling. I am only giving her 1 star because you can't post without choosing at least 1. Otherwise I would give her zero. The other day I took both pieces to Paula at Symphony Cleaners on West 95th Street and she fixed everything in less than 2 days. She did a beautiful job. read more

I brought in four new men's blazers for tailoring. All four needed the sleeves shortened, requiring moving the buttons on the cuffs. One of the jackets had elbow patches, which needed to be moved up the sleeve -- so that they would sit at the elbow rather than forearms. This required having to split open the sleeve, removing the patches, re-attaching them, and then closing the sleeve. I had read one bad review before choosing Kim's. However, when I met her, it was clear she knows what she's doing. And, when I picked up the jackets recently, it was obvious she takes great care in her work. All four jackets turned out beautifully. Had to get my pants altered for my wedding and I only had one day to do it. Everyone else was closed because Hurricane Irene forced the city to shut down the trains and my entire life. But there was Kim's, open and ready for me. Not only did she hem two pants, she did in 2 hours...during a hurricane. I admit it. The seamstress at Kim's saved my wedding. I'll be back. read more
