Alts is my go to place to get alterations. They have been my favorite place in the city to go fixing my blazers, tailoring my dresses and making my vintage finds look more personal. Mika is excellent with her fast service, recommendations for tailoring and how honest she is with how things look on me. I prefer that! I also like the front house staff with ensuring I am aware of the policies each time and any time I need to return for alterations. read more

This was quite literally the worst tailoring job I have ever had. Mind you they charged $600 for this and after two fittings it was an absolute disappointment to put on. 1. The hem was uneven and jagged. I asked many times for this to be shorter and was told many times by multiple employees them that where they hemmed would work. Unfortunately it did not, and had they actually listened to what I wanted it may have been better. This still does not excuse the absolutely abysmal hem job regardless. This meant that by the end of the event the bottom of the dress was ruined. 2. A entire pin was left dead center of the dress. I asked on the second fitting if they could fix with one stitch the attached photo circling where I needed some quick help. For $600 you think they would check to see they didn't leave a full pin in the dress but it seems that there was no quality assurance In no world would I ever recommend this place for anybody looking for a tailor. They overcharge, make poor advice regarding tailoring and then do a terrible job. read more

The people are nice but $230 to hem a dress is absolutely ridiculous. For a non-multi-layered dress? No extra fabric, no sizing adjustments....just a hem. That's 20 minutes of work. Zade Gjuta at Alts on the UWS is the best tailor I've ever worked with! I trusted her to do intricate tailoring on two outfits I wore to weddings over the summer. One was an evening gown and the other was a highly decorative shalwar kameez for a South Asian wedding. The shalwar kameez could only be tailored by hand and required a lot of skill to get it perfect. Zade did a fantastic job! I couldn't have asked for more. Yes, Alts is expensive but it's the only place I trust for such important event outfits. read more

As a child, my favorite Disney princess/movie was Cinderella. One of my favorite parts is when the fairy godmother appears, transforming Cinderella's drabby attire into the iconic ballgown we all know and love . As I stepped into my own gown that I brought in to be altered, I couldn't help but feel like Cinderella in that pivotal moment, and Elena Balaj, was my very own fairy godmother. To say that I was satisfied with her work is a complete understatement. My gown was altered so impeccably, it felt like it had always been so perfectly fitted to me. I can't thank Elena enough for her hard work and dedication, and anytime I need something fixed or updated, I know exactly where and who to go to. The place is closed for lunch from 2-3pm daily but that is not listed in their website. There were 4 of us waiting to be buzzed it, some of whom had appointments. When I called at 2:56pm to ask their hours, the woman who answered then told me they are closed from 2-3pm and proceeded to ask me what we all needed to get done (I.e., did we have appointments, what items needed to be tailored, etc.). I didn't know the other 3 people waiting and fine if they are closed for lunch but post it on the website. Once I was finally upstairs, I asked how much the starting price was to hem a pair of pants one inch. The woman up front couldn't answer the question, said there was a range. I asked what the range was. She still couldn't answer it. She said it depended and I said it was hemming a standard pair of pants one inch. She still couldn't answer and I didn't want to make an appointment without knowing the price. She finally said $55 was the starting price but then said it could be more or less once I met with the tailor. I left, she was rude. To not be able to answer a basic pricing question seemed like they were trying to cheat their customers. I could understood if she couldn't quote a price if I asked about doing something complicated to a dress, but I said "one inch hemming on a standard pair of pants". read more

I literally cannot say enough good things about Maryse Joseph and Alts. I had a jumpsuit that I needed tailored for a special event that had a ton of lace detailing, sequins, and was for sure a complicated garment to tailor. I picked the jumpsuit up a week later and it fit me PERFECTLY. It was even strapless and Maryse tailored the garment to make me feel so secure.
