I'd always heard terrific things about Kim's Kakery, Bakery, & Cafe, but I'd never really had the opportunity to try it out. Lo and behold, I was right next store getting hand controls put on a new vehicle. I looked over and saw Kim's, and I knew before the day was over I'd be making a visit. Located on Madison Avenue in what looks like an old Hardee's location, the outside doesn't begin to describe the deliciousness that's on the inside. I found a wheelchair ramp, wheeled over, and I'll admit as I entered I wasn't overly impressed. It looks and feels a little worn, however, the baked goods looked amazing and the young woman working was super friendly. So, I decided to give it a chance. I will admit that I have no idea why "cafe" is in the name as I didn't really see anything other than baked goods. However, I do believe in cake, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods as an entree so I was super good to go. There are multiple display cases with a wide variety of items. They seem to specialize in cakes, though I suppose I should call them Kakes, and they've got the awards to show for it. I opted for a couple of chocolate fudge cupcakes. They have both small and large. I opted for large because, well, they're cupcakes. My bill was, I believe, $7 and change. Great cupcakes at a fair price. These aren't quite the behemoth decadent things some "chains" tend to go for. These are real cupcakes at a real price (the small ones, if I remember right, were $1.50 - and definitely not more than $1.75. Amazing. The bakery is clean but simple. There's a handful of tables so you can enjoy your item in-house. I saw one cooler that seemed to have some drink items. Basically, this is a bakery. This is an awesome bakery. They do have some gluten-free options. I did not see doughnuts, and I don't see doughnuts on their website. So, do not go there for donuts. (That was my attempt at humor. I failed). Really, I was super pleased here. The ambience is super casual, but let that go - the baked goods are worth it. I'd definitely give Kim's Kakery a visit. read more

New year, new cake tasting box. I don't know why more bakery's don't offer this option (except for those getting married) but this is my bliss. I learned from last year and had the very kind employee write the names of the types of cake on the box. It was so tempting to grab some of their other items but this time I resisted. The cake itself was excellent and fresh. Definitely a softer cake and creamier icing if that makes sense. I saw the TikTok trend of buying a wedding cake sampler and had to find out if these existed near me. Lucky for me. Kim's Kakery was only about a mile away. Not only did they have this cake sampler, but they also had a cake pop sampler that I will be back for another time. The cake was so moist and flavorful. Everyone delicious in its own way, but my favorite was the white chocolate raspberry. The whole box was only about $25 I think. I also got two macaroons not pictured, but they were some of the best I've ever had in my life 10 out of 10 would recommend Kim's and I will be back. read more

I've been going here for 6 years! It's absolutely my favorite bakery in town. If you're on the south side, this is the place to go. What you need to get: - chocolate frosted brownies. Wow, they are soooo rich. The frosting is delightfully sugary and the brownie is nice and chewy. - almond cupcakes - I used to be like "almond?!" But this is the same cake flavor that most wedding cakes have. The frosting is sooo good, I love it. I honestly prefer this to Flying Cupcake. They have other good cupcakes as well - the sugar frosted cookies. The shapes and designs rotate based on season (Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc). The frosting isn't royal icing but more of a buttercream think. They offer a lot - coffee, sandwiches, cakes, truffles, pastries, and more!! There's some seating if you want to eat there and for cake tasting. I've only gotten a cake once but it was very good. They have some unique designs that always tempt me, but alas, I never have an event that requires a whole cake. They used to only take cash for orders under $10 but since the pandemic will accept credit cards - which in a way is bad for me, because now it is easier to visit! :) read more

I highly recommend this bakery. It is awsome. A diamond in the rough. They have a very friendly staff and delicious baked goods. They carry cupcakes, bars, claws, cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. I got me 4 treats (a couple of bars, mini upside down pineapple cake, and a pineapple pastry) and a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was very rich and tasty, not your ordinary Swiss Miss. They have a huge parking lot, indoor dining, outdoor dining and a drive thru-window. You may not realize it but this is a full bakery that can make custom delectables such as birthday and wedding cakes. Their prices are very reasonable and you wont break the bank like you would at some big name shops. They also sell loaves of bread and other items such as Valentines Day treats.....hint, hint. We used Kim's for our wedding cake last weekend and do not have a single regret. The cake was beautiful and tasted delicious. We got so many compliments on the way it looked, but were told by multiple people it was the best wedding cake they've ever had (and I would have to agree). They also made the process totally painless. We did two tastings with them, which was honestly the hardest part because all of the ones we tasted were so good. They have every flavor you could think of, and then about ten more. We ended up doing two flavors, white chocolate raspberry and spice, because we couldn't decide. We did a tiered cake for the cutting and kitchen cakes, all of which were delivered to our venue. I highly recommend Kim's if you're in the market for a wedding cake, or any cake for that matter. Update : After their response to my initial review I finally was able to speak directly to Kim's and successfully brought my order to their mind. I was instructed to wait for a call from Larry. After approximately three weeks I received a phone call but not from Larry. The call was to again, identify and confirm my correct order against the order I received. I was again told to wait for a call back from Larry. It's been approximately another three weeks. I am still patiently waiting. I know this establishment is highly rated and receives plenty of accolades, and like she said, they rarely make mistakes. However, two costly mistakes were made with my order and I just want this rectified as soon as possible. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Kim's Kakery! I'll tell the story of how we became fans. A friend from the south side would only order birthday cakes from here. We always loved them. Said friend was getting married- but the wedding was postponed due to COVID so we had a small get together to celebrate the day. I ordered a cake from somewhere else and it was a disaster. That word doesn't even adequately describe how awful the cake looked. So I stopped in Kim's in a panic. They created a cake in MINUTES while I waited in the car that was exactly as I had envisioned it. And of course it was delicious. From then on we've ordered multiple birthday cakes, cupcakes and other items. I've never once been concerned that I wouldn't like the look or taste of what they create. Oooooh wow, what a find! We were invited to an Italian dinner at my brothers and we wanted to bring an appropriate dessert. Kim's came through with a DELICIOUS Neapolitan cake right there in the front bakery case (we got a 6", but they had a larger option, too) We also grabbed a large pumpkin cream cheese bread loaf at the counter as an impulse buy... it went great with a cup of coffee for breakfast this morning! The variety of cupcakes in the cases were also impressive, nice mix of classics and creative flavors. I had called almost every bakery trying to find someone to make me a cake for my moms bday. I had resorted to making the cake myself. So my friend send me a photo of a Tiger King cake that Kim's Kakery made. I see they are open and give them a call to see if they can make a cake. The lady was so nice. She not only could make the cake she asked what I wanted and what filling. I got there at 2. The cake was done, I even bough 2 dozen mini cupcakes. And the pretzel club sandwich. The pretzel club sandwich was amazing. Honestly the bread was soft and delicious. I recommend on cupcakes Key Lime and the Almond. The white cake w fudge filling was amazing. My review is for a walk in purchase of pastries. I haven't ordered a cake or tried lunch yet. Wow! Even after lunch there was a wide range of pastries available. Many of them had a seasonal appeal that was artistically done. After pulling into their private lot, I had to enter the door on the lot side, not the one closest to the road. Once in, I saw a row of tables for diners to enjoy selections from their lunch menu. Straight ahead was the order counter with three full cases of pastries. The first was filled with donuts and breakfast type goodies. The other two had cupcakes, cake pops, and small cakes that were colorful. I noticed they also make a variety of coffee items as well from a list posted on a blackboard. I ended up selecting a snowman and a Christmas tree cake pops, two varieties of cupcakes (a snickerdoodle flavor and a cookies 'n cream, both with a nice cake to icing ratio), some salt & sweet party mix, and a large crispy breakfast cinnamon disk. My family and I have been going to Kim's for all of our special event dessert-related needs (and the occasional today-is-stressful-I-need-cake needs) since my high school graduation party in 2013. We ordered cupcakes for both mine and my brother's parties and they are constantly a hit with everyone. I've had cupcakes from several local and popular bakeries but none of them compare to Kim's. You can tell that their pastries are made fresh, by hand, and in relatively small batches. In both the strawberry cupcake and strawberry cake (my fave!!) you can find pieces of *actual strawberries* which is both delicious and beautiful. Another one of my favorites is the almond cupcake. It's so light and delicate and oh-so almondy. Kim's recently made my birthday cake and, of course it was ultra tasty, but it was absolutely gorgeous! They have a great eye for pastry decoration there, as I only told them what to write and asked that they keep the colors pastel. But, if you aren't feeling cake or cupcakes, never fear! Kim's has something tasty for you! They've been voted best eclair in Indy multiple times and, let me tell you, there's a good reason! The eclairs are massive and are filled with the most delightfully dense and custardy cream. They also have various dessert bars and chocolates if that's what you're into! Additionally, they have a lunch menu with soups and sandwiches on it so you can stop in and grab lunch and dessert in one stop. For real, you need Kim's in your life. This is truly a south side gem! I stopped for a breakfast treat. This a local family owned and operated business. Everyone was very friend and willing to answer questions. The food options are great. There is literally everything-loaves of fresh bread, cookies, cakes, and much more! Also the offer coffee options. There is plenty of seating inside to enjoy your food with company. Was here to pick up a dozen of regular cupcakes for a surprise bachelorette party on a Friday evening. It was about time to close and they still pretty much had everything on the menu. Apart from the cupcakes, I was told that their eclairs were their best selling item. I was lucky enough to get the last one, and it was deliiiicious!! Being a sucker for anything lemon, I picked their lemon bar. These two just out bet the cupcakes! I'd mixed 6 flavors of cupcakes. They were all moist and true to their flavors. We have bought two almond cakes from the case at Kim's Kakery and were blown away by the flavor and texture of the cake. The frosting is one of the best frostings I've tasted and we all ate more cake than we should have because it was so delicious. It's clear that Amber and Kimberly do not communicate, with Amber being the customer focused team member and Kimberly - too busy to care. After placing an order nearly 5 weeks in advanced, I called to pay the invoice I was provided only to be told my order wasn't on the calendar. I was then berated by Kim for thinking a solution to the issue could be found, instead told 7 times her business is first come first serve.
