Very nice restaurant with amazing decor. I get the rustic vibe and lights are dimmed for a more romantic feel. Had my bridal party with me for a nice dinner here. Justin was our server who was super nice and very professional. Food was pretty good. They do not skimp out on the serving size either. Our server was courteous and attentive. But the food was pretty terrible. In particular, the crab cake, which two out of our party of four ordered, was the WORST crab cake I've ever been served, and I've eaten many. The extra-large crab-cake--all portions were generous--contained VERY little crab meat. As a result a) it didn't taste much like crab and b) it was kind of soupy and barely held together. Do not order this: you'll regret it. The fried chicken was well cooked, but came covered in a too-sweet sauce. The tofu in a tofu and vegetable rice bowl also came covered in a sweet sauce. We took that home, uneaten, to wash off the sauce. There also weren't many vegetables. In short, this was not good food. Found really nice reviews for Kindred Fare so went ahead and made reservations for our recent trip to the Fingerlakes. The location of Kindred Fare was surprising - off the main stretch and by a few hotels, very unassuming. Since it does seem to be one of the most "hip" restaurants in FLX, it was a little more busy than other restaurants, but plenty of space to spread out and still abide by COVID precautions. The ambience was very nice - dark lighting with lots of wood, a very welcoming vibe. Our waitress was very nice and welcoming, too! For food, the menu is very much American fare but with a modern touch. There were a few main dishes, some burgers / sandwiches, salads, and some charcuterie boards, but we honed in on the cheese boards and salad. We got the cheese board and split a field green salad. The cheese board was honestly a little disappointing - while I noted there were only 3 cheeses on there, I was less than impressed with the amount of cheese provided and thought there could have been more accouterments to supplement the board. The cheeses were all NY local, so that was a nice touch, and they were quite tasty, but definitely could have been been volume. The cheeses were supplemented by a few pickles, pickled veggies, mustard, and crackers / bread, which were all good, but again, lacking in volume. But overall, the flavors were on point. The salad stood out to us for it's ingredients - butternut squash, pepitas, and pears - but the dressing 100% overwhelmed the salad. I actually had to stop eating the salad and we left some of it untouched because it was so drenched. The flavors were very good and meshed well together, but the tanginess of the salad overwhelmed me quite a bit. In retrospect, I totally should have gotten the dressing on the side, but didn't even think twice about it. Again, I appreciated the ingredients and the local harvested food, but definitely should have scaled back the dressing to encase it all. Overall, our meal at Kindred Fare was OK - the intents of our dishes were good, but the execution could have been much better. For $19, I definitely expected more on the cheese board, and for such a fresh salad, I expected a much "lighter" taste. I would definitely try Kindred Fare again to taste their sandwiches or main dishes, as I really do think they can do good food well, but I was a little disappointed in this visit. Hopefully my travels will take me back to FLX again so I can give Kindred Fare another shot and hopefully improve my ratings. read more

We went for an 18th birthday. The food was still delicious. The spirit free drinks went way up in price and down in quality in my opinion. The last time my beyond delicious drink was $8. This time my ok drink was $11. One of the perks of not drinking alcohol is the cheaper drinks! Needless to say I would rethink ordering one again. The calamari was delicious again! Stayed in Geneva for work was looking for some "healthier" farm to table options for takeout. Being a Monday in a small town I was not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised by Kindred Fare. I ordered the pork belly rice bowl and a small flank steak. Everything was cooked perfectly, both the steak and pork melted in your mouth and were not short on flavor. The home made butter and steak sauce added a nice zing, while the pork belly glaze was just subtly sweet. The hostess was delightful and welcoming and made sure my order was complete before I walked out. I would like to give them 4.5 stars as that is well deserved! read more

The mood at this restaurant is fantastic for a nice night out, and we were greeted very warmly by the hostesses. Our waitress started out friendly enough, but then seemed visibly annoyed that we didn't order drinks (we'd been out wine tasting most of the day and just wanted water). She never quite warmed up to us after that. Great French fries, focaccia bread, and my husband enjoyed his salmon dinner. I got the pasta special, and it was not good at all. The noodles were under cooked (way less than "al dente", they were borderline crunchy), and the flavor was very bland. For $28 pasta, one expects something pretty outstanding. Okay I asked the Hubby how he would rate our experience here last evening, because I try to be fair and also take the entire experience into consideration-not just my meal. He said 3.5. I agreed, but this time I'm going to round down not up. Keep reading for why I did: 1) I loved the modern industrial decor. It made KF look less like a little joint in a strip shopping center( which it is) and more like a hip hangout for the cool kids. And they DO have nice outdoor seating, for those like me me prefer alfresco during COVID. 2) Our waitress deserves more than a 3. She was sweet, attentive, and had enough conversation to make for a good dining experience without being overbearing. I'd want Anastasia again. 3) The food- it was good, but not wonderful. After reading all the glowing reviews I was expecting to have my "edges snatched" as the kids say. I got an 8 oz. boneless ribeye ( steak of the day) and asked for herbed butter on the side and the mystery veggies in place of fries. Steak had a good flavor...what little bit of meat I could get. So much gristle/fat. The edible part was more like 4 oz. Too bad, because I was really craving steak. The veggies were decent, though it was a little more butter than I'd prefer. Green beans were crisp though. Hubby ordered a burger. It was, again, pretty good. They must make their own condiments, and the mustard on his burger was heavy on the mustard seed so it looked interesting. He kinda liked it though. They were stingy with fries that accompanied it and they were broken into small pieces. 3) We were considering dessert, and Anastasia was helpful but we weren't feeling the few options they had last night. Kindred Fare is my all time favorite restaurant. As a vegan/plant-based eater, I am thrilled to see a fully vegan menu option. Normally when I go out, I can only eat one thing on the menu and there is litter variation. It is so nice to have a place to go that has an entire vegan menu in addition to a 'normal' menu. I love that I can eat something more than just a salad! The cauliflower wings are my favorite and the tofu rice bowl is to die for. We went here after some wine tasting on Seneca Lake. I had heard and read great things about it. First off, it's very cute and chic inside. It was hard to find in the dark though so, beware. It's in the end of a little plaza and their sign doesn't light up. We arrived well before our reservation and the bar was full because they were using it for seating. However, the staff was very accommodating and let us sit aT a cute high top table near the bar and a server took our cocktail order for us. I thought this was so nice since we specifically came early for drinks. I thought the food was good, but it didn't knock my socks completely off. Would I go again? Yes, I would because I did enjoy it overall. We had poutine, fried chicken sandwich (my fave), salad, fried chicken and pasta bolognese (pasta special). My friends and I shared. The pasta was great. Unfortunately the poutine was drowning in gravy (made the fries soggy) which was a disappointment for me, maybe not for others. The fried chicken was not the best in my opinion. Found this place while driving back from a concert at Point of the Bluff Vinyard after reading great reviews by my fellow Yelpers. We were 30 minutes away and I called to see if we could get a reservation at 7 PM on a Sunday. Fortunately, there were two seats available at the bar which we took. We arrived promptly at seven and were promptly seated. The bartenders were lovely and it was interesting to watch them work. there is a full bar and they also make hand made mocktails. There are several menus including a vegan one. I ordered a crabcake sandwich which came with either fries or salad. I ordered the salad and was glad I did. It was a mix of different kinds of lettuces with chickpeas and nuts in a delicious dressing. The crabcake was perfect and sat on a bed of coleslaw like salad but with different types of vegetables. There was also a delish aioli spread. All of their sandwiches are served on house-made rolls, which was outstanding. My husband ordered a flat bread and fries. The fries are served with House-made ketchup which he loved, as well as a garlic dipping sauce. The place was crowded and everybody seem to be enjoying their meals. There were a lot of folks eating the macaroni and cheese which looked really good. I highly recommend stopping by when you are in the Geneva area. read more

My wife and I have been coming here every year for our anniversary! We visit Seneca every year and we came here on our first anniversary on a recommendation from the woman who owned the house we rented. The food has ALWAYS been spectacular, from appetizers to main courses to desserts. They have a great local selection of wine and beer. They are also dog friendly which is a huge plus for us! Was our first time visiting the Finger Lakes area, and so glad we made the drive to Geneva (from our airbnb in Penn Yan) to try this place. We went on a Monday night for the Pre-fixe menu and were pleased to find both of us did not need to do the pre-fixe, which was nice since we go to try lots of items. We started with the buffalo cauliflower (part of pre-fixe) and poutine. Portion sizes were large for apps (could have just gone with one for 2 people) and the cauliflower was amazing. Little hint of indian spice and the addition of the feta was perfect. Main dishes- we had the fried chicken and a pork belly bowl (part of pre-fixe). Again, portions were large enough to take home leftovers. Chicken was perfectly juicy and the mix of items in the pork bowl was perfect. Joe's friendship fries were SO good. They had hot sauce, buttermilk dressing, fried rosemary, feta, scallions, and pickle onions. The main meal was also good, but was definitely outshined by the fries. The Mac and cheese was very creamy but had a very mild flavor (probably great for kids, but I was hoping for a more sharp flavor). Overall I really dig this place. The ambiance is nice and modern. They take reservations on Open Table. I don't feel out of place with a well behaved child earlier in the evening. The menu is fairly creative and changes seasonally. They offer happy hour. Parking is super easy. The gnocchi is my favorite. The Mac and cheese is great too. They cook to order and are flexible with accommodating diet restrictions. My gripe- the tall chairs are super uncomfortable. Also while the food is solidly good I feel like something at the table tends to be off (most recently undercooked veggies) which I am sympathetic to since everything is cooked to order but why it's not quite a 5 star joint. read more

Had dinner at Kindred Fare on Saturday night. Walking into the strange space I wasn't particularly excited, but the food really won me over. The pasta dish simple had a depth of flavor I was not expecting. Quality: Kindred Fare frequents many lists of high quality dining in the Finger Lakes. And while it should not be confused with an upscale restaurant, it was a very enjoyable meal. The menu is fairly limited, so we skipped over the appetizers and went straight to mains. The Kindred Classic Beef Burger is a solid burger. The whole grain mustard really stood out for me in a positive way, but the caramelized onions may be a turn-off for some. We had them serve the house fries as poutine for an up-charge, which was a good decision. Lots of cheese curds and a delicious gravy. Our other entree was the Pasta Du Jour, Pasta Bolognese. Excellent firm noodles with a wonderful sauce incorporating beef, pork, and rabbit. The rabbit added a little smokey and gamey feel to the dish. An excellent pasta selection and made me feel like you can trust the daily specials. Quantity: The entrees are a good size and require no appetizer to leave satisfied. Value: $22 for the Kindred Classic Beef Burger. $28 for the Pasta Bolognese With House Focaccia Bread. Ambiance: Kindred Fare is located in a strip mall in Geneva, New York. While the food may place it in an upscale category, the design is more reminiscent of a chain restaurant. It is a massive space with high ceilings at the end of a strip of stores. They have two outdoor areas, both of which seemed thrown together. Inside it is a lot of farmhouse style decor, but the size makes it feel unnatural instead of homey. A bar sits in the middle of the space, and it really messes up the flow. I think it is a feng shui issue, which is a shame since they have the food down. Crowd: It was incredibly busy even at an early dinner time. Seemed like a popular spot to visit after the wineries start closing down. Service: I couldn't shake this feeling that everything was moving too fast during dinner. It seemed like they may have overbooked and kept trying to get folks in and out to make room. It was fine for us as we weren't sticking around long, but guests looking to enjoy a relaxed meal may feel pressured. We met a childhood friend there for dinner, and we ate on their outside patio, which was lovely. Our waitress was lovely, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. Perfect! A word of warning: Go hungry!! Not only is everything absolutely delicious, the portions are more than ample. We began with the cauliflower wings, which were the best I ever had. So many places make them and so many are mediocre. These were spectacular. Crunchy, flavorful, and perfectly sauced. I had the pork belly rice bowl, and I'm still dreaming about it. The (large) pork belly slices were juicy and savory, and the rice, pickled onions, and fried egg completed this wonderful dish. My DH had the fried chicken and scarfed it down, licking his lips. Our friend had the gemelli pasta special, which looked luscious. She and I each had the fresh peach pie for dessert, and my DH had the creme brulee. He had to stop himself from licking the dish. Fans of Japanese restaurants are familiar with the concept of "umami," which is either a savory taste or a state of mind -- or perhaps both -- that describes the feeling when one's taste receptors are firing on all cylinders in harmonic, sensory-overload bliss. Last night, friends, I didn't just experience umami . . . I drank from the umami firehose. I was hit in the face with a umami brick. Launched out of the umami cannon. Kindred Fare is no Japanese restaurant, but it certainly knows how to take what appears to be a simply prepared farm-to-table dish and elevate it something sublime and unexpected. My dining companion and I both ordered the evening's specials: I had the grilled swordfish, and my friend chose the sautéed scallops. At surface level, both are typical entrees for a place like this, with nothing unusual or even particularly innovative about either menu item. But after our first bites, we knew we were in for something special. The swordfish came with fingerling potatoes (always a favorite of mine) and some delicious sugar snap peas, parboiled but still with lots of snap. But the pièce de resistance with this dish was the pureed cauliflower sauce underneath the fish. It was so creamy, yet so light and unobtrusive -- I couldn't imagine a more perfect complement to the swordfish flavor, one that could be easily overwhelmed by a heavier topping. My friend had a similar experience with her scallops. They came with a ragout of tomatoes and other vegetables (I wasn't paying close enough attention to remember). But, again, everything was seasoned "just so," which allowed the taste of the scallops to absolutely soar. Neither of us are big dessert eaters, but we couldn't resist trying one last taste of what Kindred Fare had to offer. We selected the salted caramel chocolate tart. If I had one complaint about this dish, it was that the portion size was lacking. But, the taste of it . . . we were literally gasping, we couldn't believe how incredible it was. It was rich, bright and delightful. Our waiter was personable, knowledgable, patient, warm, outgoing and also a 100% hilarious human being. Yet, at the same time, he knew when to make himself scarce, but was never far away if we had a request. I've been hearing about Kindred Fare for some time, but always imagined that it was near the historic downtown of Geneva. Instead, it's actually located on the Route 5 & 20 commercial strip west of downtown, in a strip mall-esque setting adjacent to a Holiday Inn Express and across the street from a Wendy's. The immediate locale may not be the greatest, but in the big picture, the restaurant's owners were wise to choose a site smack in the crossroads of Finger Lakes wine country. As for the space itself, the interior is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed -- somehow both rustic and gleaming at the same time. (Kind of like its food!) Even the bathrooms have that wood-and-metal hipster vibe. I particularly appreciated being seated near the open kitchen, too, to get a view of the action. With its open floor plan, the restaurant can definitely be on the loud side when it's full of guests. Kindred Fare has got personality and charm to spare (and then some!), but it may not be the type of hushed, romantic spot that some folks might be seeking when wanting a fine-dining evening. I can't say whether other dishes on the menu are at the same level, or if we got lucky with the nightly specials. All I *do* know is, I will be returning to this incredible Finger Lakes gem sooner rather than later. I didn't hesitate for a second to rate this 5 stars -- there may be more high-concept, more innovative restaurants out there with better pedigrees. But what Kindred Fare does, it does to absolute perfection. read more

Excellent place to have dinner. The decor is trendy and reminds me of nyc - so were the prices. It definitely exceeded my expectations given the location (across from the holiday inn off the road). We started out with the meat plate. Excellent taste and exquisite! My husband had the poutine because we just had the try it when we see it. Portion was huge but then again it was a big plate of French fries at an entree price. I got the pasta with octopus. It was pretty decent, cooked Al dente. It looked deceivingly small but I could not finish it. I did have it for leftovers the next day thing and it definitely hit the spot. The only negative though was that we felt rushed with the service. For example, we didn't even finished our starter and the entrees came in. Kindred Fare is a great place for a fun, relaxed, but semi-fancy meal. The food is usually awesome (occasionally slightly overcooked meat) and the drinks are out of this world. They also have tea (including matcha) and non alcoholic drinks. The atmosphere is also very down to earth/hip and the wait staff is always friendly. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because I have a dairy allergy and sometimes there aren't many items on the menu I would want to eat and the kitchen staff doesn't always take care in removing allergens from food. They pre prep a lot of the ingredients (you can see into the kitchen) as I'm sure most restaurants do, so they either aren't aware or forget what they cooked the ingredients in. read more

We hosted the rehearsal party for our son's wedding at Kindred Fare this past Friday night. The room only holds up to 32 people. The table arrangements were tough. I ended up facing the 3 people across from me and the parking lot the entire evening. My back was to everyone else and I missed everything. There are no drapes or sound-deadening pads on the walls or ceiling and the acoustics were bad. You couldn't talk without yelling over the echo. The family style food portions were small. The biggest joke was the salad for the whole table. It was so small I could have easily eaten 2 of them myself. It was dry just like the pasta. Nobody asked would you like more salad (or anything else). There was no salt or pepper on the tables. The potatoes were ok, that is the best I can say. I was embarrassed to have our guests at this kickoff to our son's wedding weekend. It was terrible and a night I would like to forget. Book at your own risk. read more
