One day I was talking to my coworker about finding a reputable place to go to that would help alleviate the lower back pain I incurred from a car accident in 2019. The pain was so annoying and excruciating at times that I decided I really needed to see a professional that would actually provide me with useful help, exercises, and tips on what I should be doing in order to allow the pain I was dealing with to be minimized (and hopefully one day be eliminated). After some discussion, my coworker brought up Kinetic Impact. I quickly skimmed over what they were about online and the types of exercises they have clients perform, a lot of which I had never seen before. Keep in mind I'm one of those regulars who will go to the gym from time to time and have a basic understanding of specific exercises for specific parts of the body depending on what I want to focus on during a given workout day. However, the exercises I was introduced to allowed me to activate certain parts of my body I never really gave thought to in the past. I was paired up with Dr. Donald during my package of sessions at Kinetic Impact and he helped me expand my knowledge of various exercises to help me utilize other areas of my body as substitutes for my lower back. In this way, I was able to experience less and less pain as time went on performing these new exercises each day and each week. Dr. Donald was very inquisitive about what kind of pain I was having, when the pain happened, and what actions I would do throughout a typical day that would provoke any pain. Him obtaining this amount of very specific information showed me that he really wanted to help me move towards solving my lower back pain problems. Every week he would ask me how I was doing, what things were the same, and what things were different so that we could progress and fine tune what I needed to be doing next for my specific pain. Over the course of just about two months, I could actually feel a difference in my body and a noticeable decrease in pain in my lower back. After weeks of visiting Dr. Donald at Kinetic Impact, I learned that - for my specific situation - I am able to significantly reduce the pain to very minimal or even nothing through my control: as long as I am consistently doing the workouts assigned to me by Dr. Donald, I get enough rest each night, and activate and use the proper muscles to perform specific movements, my lower back pain acts like it isnt even there. In addition, by maintaining this consistency of being responsible and continuing to do these workouts every day, I am giving my lower back room to heal over time. I can tell Dr. Donald has a genuine interest in helping people out based on the determination and encouragement he displays each time I show up at my next appointment with him at Kinetic Impact. He isn't there to just make money (unlike some others I have dealt with in the past unfortunately); he is there to make a positive difference in the lives of each person he sees and I can see that myself. During one appointment he even showed me a scan of his own back and explained how a lot of people our age actually have very similar back problems. I came to Dr. Donald through a recommendation from a friend who I train jiu jitsu with and he had great results. I am so glad that he told me about him because I had the same experience. I originally came because of back pain, all over back pain. While in the weeks of addressing the back pain, I injured my bicep/elbow, and then my knee. I was first introduced to Dr. Ben and Dr. Don through Keone and Mari since I took part in their show as a dancer in "Beyond Babel." During one show, I severely injured my neck and ended up damaging a cervical nerve root which really hindered my range of motion due to the crippling pain. During that time, the show was only going on for 10 weeks. In the entirety of my dance career, I've never met such passionate, holistic, and caring doctors who work undeniably hard for your recovery to get you back up and running as soon as possible. They both took into account that the show was only for 10 weeks at the time, and that what I had (a cervical radiculopathy) would've taken about 6 weeks to heal. Dr. Ben and Dr. Don really took the time to listen to my issues and worked within their own knowledge and outside of that to learn more of what they can do to help me and cut my healing time in half. Incredible. They started to help alleviate the pain by using Active Release Techniques and cupping to relieve the muscle tightness on my upper back, and then approached the nerve root problems by doing a "cervical distraction", and several other exercises which would decompress the nerve and relieve the pain. Then, we would follow with adjustments. As I started to get better, they taught and assigned me an exercise regimen that worked for me and they slowly started to increase the intensity. Dr. Ben took the time to also work with me on modifying some choreography for the whole show (90 minutes of moves!), and taught me so much about the biomechanics behind dance/movement. Even though we were modifying some moves temporarily, there was no difference to the original choreography except that I was able to perform it much more safely and still be able to perform it at my BEST without restriction! And with all of this, I was able to perform at my best after being gone for only 2 AND A HALF WEEKS (Note: my type of injury should've taken 6 weeksto heal)! I thought my time on Beyond Babel was going to be cut short, but they nudged me into the right direction, and taught me so much about the importance behind self-care (both physically and mentally). Sharing my positive experience with the team at Kinetic Impact Rehab & Performance. I started to take small group training sessions a couple times a week last year with Dr. Ben and Dr. Donald. I was introduced to these two amazing souls through a mutual friend and client of theirs. I had a neck spasm that had locked my neck in place and had crippled me into a severe pain I couldn't shake. I've been a student of barre fitness for nearly a decade and started instructing barre classes in August of 2019. I'm not sure what happened, but one day my knee started hurting and I began feeling "popping" sensations in my knee with certain movements. It was hard to tell for certain without an MRI, but all of my symptoms were in line with a bucket handle meniscus tear -- a pretty common injury that I had not had the pleasure of experiencing before. I had a great adjustment from Don when he was in our studio a few months prior, and wanted to take a thoughtful approach towards my knee. It's a pretty damn important joint. Not only in my side work with barre fitness, but also relating to my own personal fitness level and movement needs. I am a pessimist (it's kind of part of my day job as a project manager!) who also puts a huge amount of emotional weight into how my body feels. When things aren't good with my body, things are NOT good overall. I came in feeling defeated with my injury but was more than willing to give some physical work into my problem before exploring anything in the clinic/hospital realm. Don has such a great aptitude to read people's bodies and ask the right questions to get to the direct source of the problem. He works with you to understand your daily movements in your life/sports, and gives you therapeutic alternatives that rehabilitate you and make you stronger. My initial plan with Don was to give it 6 weeks with weekly sessions. After only 4, my symptoms were virtually gone. Around week 3 I was starting to get weary, and Don reassured me that he understood what I was feeling and that he was confident I'd advance in my progress, soon. At week 4 I was 90% back to full function and at week 5 I was no longer even thinking about my knee anymore, it was fully recovered. I told Don on our last session... no offense, but I really didn't expect to fully recover in my injury with his treatment. After a few weeks of pain and modest improvements, I was pretty convinced I'd need more invasive therapies. I cannot recommend Dr. Don enough! In April of last year I made a cross country drive and my lower body paid the price. I was unable to use my right for much more than a limp and unable to use the stairs without my knee giving out. As a power lifter this was a huge blow to my training. Okay this review is LONG overdue but I can't say enough great things about Dr. Ben!! I have had a bad back for years and have seen several doctors/chiropractors over the years...with little to no relief! I started seeing Dr. Ben in September and I was instantly impressed with his knowledge of the body and how many questions he would ask to really figure out what's going on. He worked on me a few times and I already started to feel better. But in October, I threw it out so bad that I could hardly walk! I saw Dr. Ben twice within the first few days and I was so grateful that he didn't just jump to try and fix it. He was honest about the situation, moved slowly to try and relieve some pain, and after the 2nd visit recommended I get an MRI and see a specialist. I truly valued his opinion and respected that he felt like I needed more help than he was able to do at that time. I got the MRI (which Dr. Ben called me to thoroughly go over and help me understand exactly what it said) and saw a spine specialist. The specialist gave me medication to ease the pain and basically said time should heal it. I scheduled my follow up 4 weeks out and he said if I was still in pain at that time, we would do an epidural shot. Dr. Ben followed up with me and I told him what the other doc had said. His response; "We need to do everything we can to make sure you aren't in pain at that appointment. If we can avoid a needle in your back, we need to!" Hallelujah!! I had an appointment with Dr. Ben that Saturday and he just worked on getting some mobility in my back and set me up with about 5 exercises/stretches that I needed to do every day! I'm not even kidding when I tell you that by Monday, I already started feeling better! It felt so good to move my body and not be in total pain!! I continued on these exercises for weeks and was in minimal pain at my specialist follow up...so no epidural was done! I was back to working out (with modifications) after 6 weeks and continue to work on building the strength through my core and back! We first began seeing Dr. Donald and Dr. Ben when my hockey-playing son's hip pain returned at the end of his season for the 3rd year in a row. Doctor Don literally saved my life. I was in a terrible car accident in April right after Covid started. I tried to get vital care from a number of providers including my own very expensive health insurance. Because of Covid I could not get anyone to see me. I was quickly discharged from Scripps Hospital since I was not a Covid patient with serious injuries. I honestly I thought that I would not survive the first two nights after my accident. I tried being readmitted to Scripps, I tried emergency rooms, urgent care centers - all to be turned away. I was in a terrible amount of pain and suffering. I understand it was Covid but my injuries were serious and I required immediate and educated medical attention.I was fortunate that a friend had gone to see Dr. Mull before the pandemic. She urged me to get in touch with Dr. Mull. I didn't even expect to hear back from him. I was in agony on that Friday night and with it being a weekend and thinking about all the doctors that had turned me away I was sure I would not get a return phone call until Monday. I was surprised when he not only texted me on that Friday night but he made special arrangements to be Covid compliant and open his office on a Saturday for my emergency. At the point I saw him I was in extreme pain and distraught. He not only was an incredible physician getting me the medical treatment I needed but he also provided a great bedside manner in terms of listening to my specific pain and emotional issues as a result of the accident. I have had intermittent back pain for several years and was looking for a way to manage my pain. I saw Dr Don and he was amazing! He showed me several stretches I can do from home to strengthen my back and reduce the pain. And they work! During our move to Oregon when the back tightened up, the stretches helped tremendously. Having been in the fitness and physical therapy field for over 8 years now, Ben and Donald are 2 people who have stood out tremendously. They are top of the line chiropractors that specialize in rehab. They aren't your typical pop and adjust you in 5 minute chiropractors. If you make the right choice and decide to work with these two, expect a very thorough assessment/consultation followed by completely individualized one on one treatment that reflects high quality physical therapy and chiropractic treatment. Love that they are evidence based and not foo-foo magical chiropractors.
