This turned into an exhausting 11-month ordeal with Italy 2000. The dining chairs originally delivered were noticeably different and lower quality than the showroom model. When I contacted the owner, (Ray) he became extremely confrontational and at one point yelled at me over the phone while I was at work, which my coworkers witnessed. They took the chairs back and allowed us to select another set, promising a 3-4-month turnaround. It took 5 months, with repeated promises of "2 more weeks" or "10 more days." Before the second delivery, I specifically called to confirm the chairs because of what happened the first time. When they finally arrived, they were wrong again. The showroom model had clean, seamless cushions with no piping. The delivered chairs had piping around the cushions and poor stitching. When I pointed this out, Ray dismissed my concern and called me "picky." Expecting a product to match the showroom model you selected isn't being picky. They ultimately refunded me, but even that involved an argument over a restocking fee. After spending $13000 and dealing with this for nearly a year, the biggest issue wasn't just the furniture. It was how I was treated when I simply asked them to deliver what I had purchased. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Italy 2000.

The sales staff confirmed that is indeed hair and she was very helpful to fix this issue. She ordered a replacement for it but the replacement also came with hair in it. Eventually, she got me connected with a product manager to discuss the problem and he was very rude. When he basically told me that I am wrong, I mentioned how the sale staff confirmed that this is in fact a piece of hair but he started to talk over me and told me not to trust the sale staff. He explained how that is not hair and it's a piece black fiber in a aggressive tone. It seriously looks like a piece of pubic hair. When I asked him if this isn't hair, then is it a part of the design. The answer was maybe and it happens. To sum it all, this $500 chair comes with pubic hair or " black fiber" baked into the chair. Consider before the purchase.

According to the seller, there was no problem with the sofa we purchased. However, regardless of the maintenance, wax, oils and other products that we tested to maintain the leather, it started to deteriorate after less than 2 years. After only 5 years, our sofa simply put us to shame. Yes, some items are coming from hotels, such as what you find here in Van Nuys, but those also can be items built a little bit better that mass produced cardboard. Not always, but sometimes. I love Hotel Surplus Outlet as a place to peruse a few times a year, especially if I want an interesting piece of art, or a chair I won't find at....Hmmm, where DOES one go to find a chair these days, Wayfair??? Anywho, HSO is also a good place to pop into if you host gatherings more than a couple of times a year. They have quite a few items from hotel kitchens and room service, think chaffing trays, as well as dishes of varying styles and sizes, all usually in multiples. If you need to furnish an apartment or home on the cheap, maybe starting with dishes and utensils, this is a good option. Also, check them out for used weight room equipment, treadmills and stationary bikes. Some of my friend's best long-use bowls, I recently found out, came from HSO. I didn't even know she enjoyed coming here as well! If you work with electronics, there are many kinds here and I would think at least some could be used for spare parts for repair shops. Patio furniture? Lighting? Bedding? Artwork? Mirrors? Hey! Need a landline phone??? Come check out HSO. When you walk in you will see a few pieces to gradually introduce you and prepare you for what's to come. There's also a front desk if you were wanting to ask about something in particular. If you just want to leisurely walk through and get inspired, you are welcome and not trailed with a salesperson nagging at you. Some days I don't find anything but inspiration for what my house COULD look like if I cleaned it, but most of the time I just like seeing if there's anything I didn't know I needed. Last September I was looking for a MCM style bar cart. HSO had quite a few, but not exactly what I was looking for. Tip: If you do see an item, make sure there isn't more than one. They'll each have a slight flaw, but some aren't as obvious as others, which gives you options to choose what you like best. This is also a good source for used work desks and chairs, if you need something simple for a small space - think hotel room desk areas. Also, they do have some interesting headboards and living room consoles. Hotel Surplus Outlet is an interesting - and HUGE selection.
