Let me tell you about the deliciousness that is in store for you! This restaurant is everything you want in some down home cookin' and more! I went on a Wednesday and got the 2 hamburger steak dinner special for $15 and it BLEW me away! The brown gravy was delightfully earthy and paired wonderfully with the juicy hamburger steak. It had to be at least 1lb of tender and succulent meat! The mashed potatoes were thick and creamy topped with a luscious white gravy. Much to my surprise the star of the show was the the veggie soup. It was packed with deep beefy flavor the hardiness had me coming back for more! This soup is something I will be coming back for next time I'm sick! I could only eat half my steak and kept the rest for breakfast. Not to mention the whole other steak dinner that I didn't even touch. We were staying at the best western inn next door and stopped here for breakfast before getting back on the road. The restaurant has a small family restaurant feel to it, makes you feel like you're right at home. I had the hash browns, eggs, pancakes, beacon and toast everything was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. My boyfriend had the potatoes instead of hash brown, those were the best potatoes ever! They had an awesome seasoning on them no ketchup needed :) we also had a steak which was perfectly cooked to our liking, it was tender and it had such great flavor. I would definitely return if I'm ever in Texas again. The service was great and the food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time. The decor was quite neat as well, they have a collection of tea pots it's quite intriguing. The best part was the price, we left with our bellies full and our wallets happy. We were visiting Nacogdoches and asked for a recommendation for a restaurant that served "home cooking." We were told that Kinfolks was great. That wasn't our experience. The food was just okay. Some of it was good, some of it was straight out of a can. Here's the rundown: Chicken fried steak-tasty Double cheeseburger and fries-tasty Chicken fried chicken-so-so Fried catfish-crispy, but slightly overcooked and mushy Mashed potatoes and gravy-okay greens and purple hull peas-right out of a can-no seasoning on the peas buttermilk pie-great filling in a store bought crust that ruined it for me. Our bill for 4 people was almost $50. This is more than I like to pay for food that is just okay. I will say that the service was friendly and first-rate. Our waitress took great care of us. Well that was an interesting experience. I hate writing not so good reviews but I really have to. I'm giving two stars because I think it was just a bad experience, the food wasn't terrible. Right off the bat the waitress was rude and sluggish, also appeared sick as she coughed without covering her mouth. After giving us the food, she didn't come back to check on us or give us the check for awhile. When she gave me my food she knocked the straw out of my cup and it got water all over me, she said "oops I knocked your straw out" and didn't bring me a new one. That was probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I got the chicken tenders and they were pretty good. The green beans were very tasty. I don't recommend the bland mashed potatoes. The other waitress seemed a lot nicer. I will say the waitress we had really ruined the experience. Why does this old restraunt only been rated a 3 stars. Maybe it the folks that are not used to old fashion down home cooking. I guess that's what fast food does to a person. The food here is like it was when the older generations grandmother cooked. It's sticks to your bones. If you haven't had a good home cooked in a while you should try it. my husband was just there... on the phone with him now... ordered 3 eggs over medium, with hash browns, French toast, sausage & coffee... it took 45 minutes to get his order... got 2 eggs that were barely cooked & runny... hash browns weren't crispy as asked... he didn't even bother to eat it... girl at register was very rude when he said somethin to her about it... she told him to not even come back, since he didn't bother to give them chance... she was even rude to the waitress, who was also new there at the restaurant... long haul truck drivers like to have decent meals... you wont get one there... not even a decent conversation... stop & eat at your on risk... read more

Heard many good things about this restaurant and decided to give it a try with my friend. We went on a Monday evening, around 7, the place was not very busy at all, as we sat ourselves, and we were helped right away. I would say that the menu is fairly simple, something that you would expect to see at a local country tavern-type establishment. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans, whereas my friend ordered the "Texas Sized" chicken fried steak with a side of pink lady salad and mashed potatoes. I would say that my chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly. Although the breading was a little "flimsy" and fell apart easily, the chicken breast on the other hand was cooked very well. In addition, the mashed potatoes and green beans were just average. The service we received was very good! Our waitress answered all the questions we had about the menu and got our order in quick. I would say the highlight of the experience was the pink lady salad my friend ordered as a side. He described it as being "sweet" and a very "light, but pleasing" desert. The Food is very good. The service on the other hand, is a different story. Today we went in to have the, All you can eat Catfish. Price $10.99 Friday and Saturday. We arrived Saturday around 3:00 Pm. After We ordered, we were pretty much on our own for the rest of the meal. We even had to get up and ask for a "to go Box". We have been there 3 times in the last 5 months and they ran out of coleslaw 2 out of the 3 times we have been there. There must have been a total of 8 people in the place, mostly locals nursing coffee, and the waitress kept talking to these locals the entire time while ignoring my Wife and Myself. I tried to give her some advise on how to get better tips by being more attentive to her customers, but she just wanted to argue the point, stating she could look across the room and see when we needed water, or anything else. Don't get me wrong, we have had great service in the past here, but today was Bad, I wish I knew the server's name, but she never bothered to tell us. A Lady named Lisa started serving us and then We saw her walk out the door with her purse, without saying Good Bye to us.
