Called this nail salon this morning and thought I'd give them a "second chance." (see note 1, below). I asked them how much they charged for a regular manicure, and the gal responded $15. I made the appointment and went. So, I'm looking for the right shade of polish on the wall. The gal hands me a color pallet instead, and then proceeds to try and start the manicure. I don't want to start the manicure until I know they have a shade I like--I like a sheer polish, nothing heavy, on my fingernails. Some places just don't carry a more natural looking sheer polish. So, I'm looking at their color pallet, and you can't tell from the pallet whether the polish is sheer or not. So, I ask to see the bottle of polish so I can see for myself whether the polish is sheer or solid. You'd think I was asking to meet the US President by the way she was protecting her bottles of polish! She even said I was being "difficult." That may be somewhat true in that I know what I want, and I'd rather go somewhere else if I can't get what I want. But, I believe her intentions were more dubious. After much back & forth, she eventually lets me see the bottle, and it says "gel," not regular polish, on the label. I'm allergic to gel polish (and soaking in acetone)--it destroys my nails, making them bleed and sore for weeks. And who only charges $15 for a gel manicure? NOBODY. So I ask for regular polish--SHE SAYS THEY DON'T HAVE ONE SINGLE BOTTLE OF REGULAR NAIL POLISH IN THE ENTIRE SALON. Add to that, apparently they knowingly quoted me $15 for a manicure to get me in the door, then planned to switch me to a more expensive service WITHOUT EVEN ASKING MY PERMISSION! This place is "Kings and Queens" of dishonestly baiting customers who want a regular manicure, with the clear intention to switch them without their knowledge to more expensive services. Needless to say, I left and got the manicure I wanted--with regular sheer polish--elsewhere (at Tiffany's on Cactus and 32nd St), but it's obvious why this place is virtually dead. NEVER AGAIN! They have absolutely no remorse for wasting your time if their "bait and switch" doesn't pan out in their favor. Footnote 1: Went to the same place about 8 years ago when it was called "Sophia's," but they kept trying to upsell me the ENTIRE TIME I was there. They just don't take "no" for an answer! (Their customers are just dollar signs to this family!) They now changed their name to "Kings and Queens," and supposedly their ownership, but the same people that owned it before are still there, and their method of operation hasn't changed. This time though y'all had a hour wait and gone tell me I can go next door to the barbershop to get my eyebrows done! Yeah! All I wanted was my eyebrows done! Would give 0 stars if possible. if you decide to go here, check their menu she lies about the prices and wouldn't provide me with one. when I finally spotted one the price was different than what she told me but I already consented to the price under duress. Worst experience, EVER. We should have known we weren't going to be happy when the place was completely empty on a Saturday afternoon. We decided to give them a shot since they were so close to the house. We shouldn't have. My GFs gel manicure is cracking already. She gets them regularly, and it never chips or cracks within 5 days. She was happy working with the gentleman. My experience has been far worse. My experience with the female employee/owner was far worse. I asked her if she could warm up the water more than normal she said she would, of course she didn't. Gave me a dirty look when I asked her if she could warm it up a little bit more. Then if she's cutting my nails she precedes to rip the side of my nail off and lies to me and tells me it's just the white stuff on the side that goes along like the cuticle. This was not the case she burst a sack underneath my nail. Apparently sense of place was dirty I got a significant infection. 2 days later when I went to bring it to the attention of the owner they left for the 4th of July for 3 days. I understand, that as a small business these things happen, which is fine. So I go in the very next day, when they were open and asked if I could speak with the owner. She started to ignore me when I told her my prob, she basically just continued working on her customer. When I told her I have a problem she continues to ignore me, and continues working on her customer. When I finally tell her exactly my problem in front of her customer that I have a significant infection and I need a refund so I can go to urgent care and get antibiotics she starts to lie and say that it's caused for something else now I needed to pop this infection and start draining all of the infection the owner tells me that the whole from draining was not caused by her and she will not refund my money. While giving me the pedicure she kept trying to lift my left leg up. three separate times I had to tell her my leg does not go up I have a bad back but she was ignoring me and talking to her husband in a foreign language so she just ignored me until I had to raise my voice and tell her I was in pain. Please do not go here, they do NOT deserve anyone's business. read more

I was referred to Sophia's by my sister who loved the work that was done on her nails, however my experience was not that great. First of all, I called and made an appointment for a gel fill and a polish change on my toes and when I arrived a lady acted as if I never called. She also told me she wouldn't have time to do a polish change that should take all of 10 mins. I also have stiletto shaped nails and one had be repaired. When the lady was repairing my nails she was unable to do the shape. I am not impressed at all with the service or the work. My nails were horrible and old looking after 6 days. One nail even broke off, when I scratched my hair. I will never come back here, had to go to my usual place Tubi Nails to have them fixed. Horrible experience! read more

The employees were kind however they filed my toe nails way way too short, the white tips on my pedicure did not look good or even. Very small nail salon, really messy & old. Didn't expect much from the get go, only came because my normal place was super busy while they were empty. I had to go out of town that evening & had to get it done. My gel manicure wasn't done nicely, it looks like it's grown out after done, not to mention missing on sides & has bubbles on half of the nails. Pedicure was okay, other than cutting me & making me bleed several times; it was okay. I am not at all happy with the service and the paint job I received. First I felt very very pressured to buy a $35 pedicure when I only wanted either a basic or a $30 nail job. I even said I do not like paraffin wax but was pressured so hard I finally got the paraffin wax. Also the paint job left a whole lot of room between the paint and my skin it looks like it already to go back for another paint job and all I needed was basic red paint. See the photos I just posted. Everyone was very nice and the chairs are very good but I felt like I paid a lot of money for a very bad paint job. I don't like giving a bad review but I am angry! The foot and leg massage were not right, it felt like pressure was always in the wrong place, no toe massage on each toe, and I just could not relax. I have to tell you that I came here on Martin Luther King jr. Day to get a pedicure. It is true that my nails were not in the best shape, but after I waited for a half an hour to be waited on, I ordered the Relax, which is the $30 option, only to be told that the menu prices are for regular women customers, and not for men. The woman, whose name was Ann, then told me that for me it would be $50 because it was "a lot of work." Talk about gender bias and just plain rudeness. I will not go here again.
