My mother has lived at the Birches for several years, and she absolutely loves it! I love it, too, and here are some of the reasons why: Unlike other assisted living facilities, the Birches feels like home. The facility is beautifully maintained, featuring lovely gardens, a cozy fireside room for reading/socializing, and a welcoming dining room (among other things). Residents are treated like family. The staff is absolutely outstanding! They really take the time to get to know each and every resident, and it's oh-so-evident how much they care. Not only are they responsive to my questions, but they always seem to be a step ahead with whatever my mother needs. There are an abundance of activities to cater to any interest: games, musical performances, meditation, exercise, crafts. Residents are encouraged to participate, but they're left with plenty of autonomy to decide for themselves. The dining room feels like an actual restaurant. The servers quickly learned my mother's preferences, making her feel incredibly special. The food is excellent, and it's always served with warmth and a smile. The director of the Birches leads with love. She sets the tone for the whole place, and it comes across in everything they do. I could go on and on. My father went to live here as he had dementia but other than that he was quite healthy. I was living out of state at the time. By the 4th month he was dead from a serious infection he acquired at this facility. They didn't care. They let him die. After visiting 5 memory care facilities in the area, I picked The Birches for my husband and was very happy with the choice. It is currently celebrating 25 years in business, is locally owned and has a low turnover of staff. It is not a national chain. All nurses and other staff were loving and caring and I would definitely recommend this place. All staff members were friendly and always would greet you even if you didn't know them. The food was very good and in their memory care unit, they would show the residents the choices on plates instead of just asking them which item they wanted on the menu. read more

Even having family members themself living there Assisted living is exactly what it sounds like. It is living your current daily life with minimal assistance. When residents are looking for a wonderful assisted living facility they should consider how they want to live. This community will ensure that their residents still have all of the opportunities for freedom and enjoyment in their life that they had before they moved. The ability to freely do whatever you want and are capable of is important. The ability to go to the grocery, walk to the store, take care of a pet. Having these freedoms should not be taken for granted. Continuing with life's daily activities is a wonderful quality to have in a community, but it is also important that you are comfortable. Having a facility that takes are of cooking and housekeeping hassles are wonderful to have in order to release the stress they have been causing and be able to relax and have fun with activities that the vicinity provides. We are in the process of exploring options with a family member... We are very familiar with the Birches and I wanted to say that the facility is awesome and the staff members are so wonderful. Very pleasant and warm place to live. If you are out there just starting starting your search for a family member would highly recommend you start with the Birches. Our family was very happy with the Birches Assisted Living Facility. My mom considered it her home for 18 months and when asked how she liked living there, she would always respond, "I liked it from the very first day i came here!" She loved all the people including the administration, the activity directors, the dining hall staff, and helpful aids. Her apartment and facilities were beautiful, nicely decorated and comfortable. I can echo Kim K's sentiments about The Birches. After looking at several assisted living communities, my family & I decided The Birches would be a good fit for our sister. My sister arrived at the Birches in August 2016. The building is clean, well cared for, beautiful & homey. The staff is incredible. Everyone is so caring and friendly and takes time to get to know their residents. The restaurant-style dining feels so special (white table cloths are used) and the menus offer great variety. There are activities everyday for residents to participate in as well as many outings each month. My sister has gone to Holiday Magic at Brookfield Zoo, horseback riding in October 2016, The Morton Arboretum, an LTHS Holiday Choral & Orchestra performance, The LaGrange Theater to see movies, Theater of Western Springs productions, just to name a few. There is a visiting primary care doctor & a couple of visiting podiatrists. RA's & nurses are so helpful. My sister receives physical therapy & occupational therapy and all of that in-house care is a big help to our family. We are very grateful to have our sister living in such a caring community!! read more

I highly recommend The Birches. In addition to assisted living they also have a memory care unit. I can attest that the staff, apartments, common areas, outdoor patios and facilities, amenities, activities and dining are all top notch. My Mom has been in the memory care unit for 5 months and she is thriving after being in two other facilities over the last few years. Though her prior facility was virtually the same cost the care was below standard and we needed to find a place with caring staff that actually nurtured the residents. I wish we had found The Birches sooner. The intake process was smooth and compassionate. Jackie and Robin and the staff were so informative, caring and professional. We wanted to get our Mom into this new facility before Thanksgiving and they made it happen to our delight. The staff provides activities, excursions and stimulation all day and night. I can honestly say that I never find my Mom in her room. Keep up the good work!!! read more
