The food here is fantastic! We had the haddock bites and the schnitzel. My husband had the fish and chips. Traditionally prepared with freshly made potato chips, which were slices of potato fried to perfection. A little pricey but well worth it. We had our granddaughter with us. She has Down Syndrome and our waitress Jeanette was so attentive to her! She definitely went the extra mile to make our experience memorable. Can't wait to come back!! read more

I will miss the Jameson Tavern, but a new pub has moved into their vacated location. The King's Head Pub has traditionally European cuisine as well as American. The food is well prepared and presented. Spicy food is indeed spicy and will warm you on a chilly day. Portions are generous and the staff are friendly. Seems a bit darker inside than average and with the lunch crowd a bit noisier than average. read more

We had decided to give the new ownership a try with kind of mixed results. Good, quick service. Nice wine list - I enjoyed a nice Chardonnay. The haddock sandwich was good, a bit different in that the tartar was on it and shredded lettuce - but tasty! Fish and chips was amazing - fries were super yummy. The burger as basic, haddock tacos seemed a bit on the small side & the margarita was kinda tasteless. But we had a great time and now know what to order! read more

Firstly I will give some background on this spot. It is their second location with the first being in the Old Port area of Portland. I have yet to visit that location before. This Freeport location opened up in mid August where Jamesons Tavern was located. The inside had a nice rustic and welcoming feel to it, all of the outdoor seating was taken due to the crowds from the fall festival and warm day. We liked being inside as an escape from the heat outdoors. The host sat us right away and we looked over the menus that included their food menu, drink menu and specials menu. They had a good draft list offering of beers and some tasty sounding cocktails as well, especially the cocktail special that was a Pumpkin Pie Martini. Maybe next time though as we just grabbed an ice tea. Food wise we were looking for something on the smaller side instead of a large meal. Although some of the menu items did sound tempting for a future revisit including tacos, chicken sandwich, mac n cheese, and the fish & chips. Appetizer wise we decided to split an order of their Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings. The order ended up being 6 wings so 3 for each of us, the perfect portion for my wife as a quick bite. The wings were tasty and the garlic parm sauce was delicious as well. Although, the wings could have been tossed in the sauce a little more, not much sauce stayed on the wings. Price of the 6 wings for 15 was decent and I'd say on par for wings not on a price deal but I do wish it was a larger portion. A spot worth checking out in the busy area of Freeport. I look forward to retuning for more of a dining experience and maybe giving their draft list or cocktails a try in the future. read more

We stopped in for lunch after shopping at LLBean. Ordered the paella, mussels, and kings roast. All three were delicious! Great selection of beers, too. The only thing is we had to request a couple extra sets of silverware since a couple of our forks weren't clean. It just seemed like whatever soap they used to wash them didn't completely rinse off, no big deal imo. read more

I hate giving mediocre reviews, but this was a mixed bag. We dined outside on a gloomy day, but it was still a good ambiance. The patio was very busy. However the 6 year old knocking his chair into me was a little detracting. Our server was very patient, happy, and pleasant. We started with a Scotch egg. I was excited to try it and it didn't let me down. Perfectly cooked with a slightly runny inside and nice, crispy exterior. For lunch we had a pesto Caesar salad. The pesto was subtle and not a good pairing with iceberg lettuce. Two people got mac and cheese. The adult portion was more akin to carbonara, with cavatappi, peas, and bacon. The sauce was good and creamy. The kids portion also had cavatappi, but with shredded cheese on top, a stringy presentation and the sauce was mostly absent. I'll finish on a strong note (we didn't have dessert). I had the Bahn Mi. The slaw was tasty, the chicken was nice and crispy; very good overall. I'm always leary about seafood in a near the shore community, because some places don't access their local fisheries, but the haddock was delicious. I'd be willing to try this place again, but maybe after I tried another local restaurant. read more

I was very disappointed with the service at King's Head Pub in Freeport, Maine. When we arrived around 1:15 p.m. on July 26, there were at least four empty tables, including two shaded tables for two people. Despite this, the host insisted that the only available seating was in the direct sun and refused to seat us at any of the empty shaded tables. There was no explanation that made sense given what we could clearly see in the dining area. The host's approach lacked basic hospitality and customer service. A little flexibility, communication, or willingness to accommodate guests would have gone a long way. The host on duty at that time could benefit from additional hospitality training. We chose not to stay and took our business elsewhere. Unfortunately, this first impression was enough that I would hesitate to return.As a person of color, I left wondering whether I was treated differently. I have no way of knowing, but the experience certainly made me feel unwelcome. read more

I come through Freeport a couple of times a year and when I charge my car, I usually come to this restaurant which is right next-door. I noticed that the name of the restaurant had changed, but that didn't deter me because I like sitting outside. The menu is nothing to write home about it is English food. The service was a little sluggish because I just ordered a chowder, a starter and a drink and that took about 15 minutes to get a cup of soup. The food was OK nothing too bad nothing too great. My bill which came out to just a little over $30. I gave the server $40 and sat for another 25 minutes waiting for change which didn't come so I just left without speculating why 20% would be close to 30% not going to have a confrontation over a couple of bucks. But I won't go back. I'll go to Linda Bean's next time instead to see if they know how to give change. Stella, I don't know how many people you do this to, but it's not honorable. read more

The food is Excellent! The service is not bad. The Ambience is very lacking. I was with my wife, we had two beers, Shrimp cocktail, and two Lazy Lobsters as the main dinner. The Shrimp was so so. The main dinner was absolutely delicious. I would definitely order it again. The servers are hospitable and they work as a team supporting each other. The Ambience is None. Service was excellent. Food is okay. Pretty typical pub fare. This is our second visit to the Freeport location. Have tried the pulled pork, haddock sandwich ,burger and fried chicken sandwich. Both my husband and I feel indifferent but likes their truffle fries the most. Wish the Prime IPA wasn't $9 for 13 oz but beer prices are up and GoodFire charges the same. I loved my experience at King's Head in Freeport! The Portland one is great too! The food and the vibe is stellar. They have a good variety of beer and their mixed drinks are so tasty. Their service is top notch. Super nice people who make sure you have everything you need and it doesn't take forever to get your food. I also like how the restaurant is placed perfectly around all the Freeport shops. One never knows what to expect on the second day of a new restaurant opening, but the staff at The King's Head Pub in Freeport were already on top of their game. Service was prompt and friendly and my waitress effortlessly answered a couple of questions. The Scotch egg was perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of heat, and the cocktail shrimp were very large and very fresh. The only entree I tried, fish & chips, included two large haddock filets that were very clean and flaky inside and battered with what is called a "British style" batter that was new to my experience, but I loved its texture and the crispy crunch it brought to the haddock. An upgrade to truffle fries with shaved parmesan proved to be a great choice as well. A thoroughly satisfying experience. read more
