I rarely write reviews, but I had to after our dining experience last night. Everything was perfect from the location to the decor, and the FOOD and SERVICE was top notch as well. We are a foodie family who have been to hundreds of restaurants all around the world! The FOOD We ordered 75% of their amazing menu and every bite from the house made cornbread, pork belly, burrata salad, Swordfish, Tuna, Haddock, Sirloin, smash burger, and all [3] desserts we tried were truly amazing. Stephanie [Owner/Chef] was our server and her personality and huge smile made the meal even better. Our family has had a home in OOB for over 30yrs and we have eaten at many different restaurants in that time. We all agreed this was one of our top 5 restaurant experiences here and at home in Connecticut. We were here for a private work gathering. What a lovely place, it's not a huge space, so for the 60ish of us, it can get a little crowded and loud. The service was incredible. The team of servers and bartenders were great. The were on the move the whole night. Offering up food, refiling drinks and passing around appetizers the whole night. All with a smile and recognizing you might not want to hold the toothpick and napkin the whole time and taking it from you before you realize you have been holding it for 10 minutes LOL The food was delicious, the views were lovely. Parking can get a little tight with the big crowds, especially in the summer. Always check ahead, or make reservations, as they do cater to a lot of private events. This was our first time here it was valentines day, a preset meal. Every year we try a new place this year this was it. Let me just say none of the appetizers appearing to my husband. Secondly, I ordered the crab goat as my appetizer it came with two piece pieces that's it. Then the main entrée we picked was a piece of tenderloin with some kind of lobster. Something on top. Let me tell you it was like a pile of mush with a piece of potato underneath it. The meat was delicious. The lobster part was like mush and to me it had a fishy smell and taste. I don't like that my husband said well it's fish. Well I'm sorry but fish in a restaurant shouldn't really taste fishy or smell fishy. By now, we are ready to go home the preset desserts. We wanted to take home one we were told we couldn't even though we've taken home the same type of dessert before and never had a problem, but that's OK. The first thing we asked for we got him was bread. We normally have bread but not tonight because it's Valentine's Day and it's a preset meal. I explained to him that I am a diabetic, and my sugar was low. The waiter didn't seem to care and we still waited a good half an hour for our food to come. We asked to see the regular menu so that we may go back. Regular prices seemed reasonable for the area but to have a preset meal at $85 a person with stuff on there that we don't even eat and we didn't know about this meal when I made the reservation so we were kind of stuck on a Valentine's Day unless I wanted to eat in a fast food joint, which wasn't going to happen. I think if somebody is coming in there and they specifically ask you for something for a reason because they have a Medical need a piece of bread shouldn't be an issue. I don't know if I would come back here not for the price of the meal a cocktail plus tip. As a bonus, let me add this in our waiter said he only learned the menu 20 minutes before we walked in. He looked like a young kid and I said to my husband it was probably the best boy that they let me a waiter because he definitely did not seem like a seasoned employee. read more

Great service, great views, great food! Stumbled upon this place when trying to find a last minute reservation for dinner on July 4th. Great wine list. Also, mocktail options were good as well. Started with the tuna tartare and it was so fresh and delicious. I was in the mood for a lighter meal and had a salad with salmon. The salmon was perfectly grilled and the salad was very fresh and satisfying. My husband had a lobster pasta and said it was fantastic. They make the pasta fresh in house. Lastly we got a flourless chocolate cake for dessert and it was soooooo yummy. Items that can be done gluten free are clearly marked in the menu. Great place for dinner by the water! read more

Food is always dependable. Delicious apps and salads. Lunch is even better than dinner.

The staff is warm and friendly and also give you suggestions if you need them. Food is yummy. It is so good and it changes often is nice. It's really good to have choices. There is also plenty of parking and it has a beautiful view and there's a marina beside it and you have a view of Casco Bay I highly recommend read more

Beautiful view, amazing staff and great options for vegans/vegetarians! Started off with this tasty strawberry cucumber drink and it was nothing but a great experience. Buffalo cauliflower bites are delicious with a tiny kick at the end. Veggie burger is made with real veggies. No beyond or impossible in this burger. Its was all that a vegan would enjoy. The goddess salad with chicken for me. Absolutely surprised how much I enjoyed this salad considering it had beets. Im not a beet eater but the inventive way they did these beets I could actually enjoy eating them (thin noodle style). This was an amazing find and highly recommend. read more

It was worth the wait! Made bar reservations last night. Our drinks were perfect, the food was very fresh and delicious; presented well. Service and ambiance were terrific. Location allowed for lighthouse walk down the road prior as well as admiring of the boats on the docks outside. A really lovely evening chatting with others at the bar. read more

Delicious food. It can be pricey - but it's usually worth it. Buffalo cauliflower bites. Yumm. Lunch options are less expensive. Yay. The staff is super about refilling waters - but really - I'd rather they leave the carafe. I should ask them to next time - but I never think of it. Definitely recommend folks check fb to make sure they aren't closed for a private party...as they do that somewhat often. read more

Wonderful restaurant with beautiful decor and an amazing view of the marina. I went on a Sunday night and sat at the bar. I had a drink and a number of heavy appetizers. The mellow margarita was very tasty. The Barata with warmed tomatoes was simply delicious. Cornbread with butter was also good. I had a large order of muscles. They came in a wine and garlic sauce. I prefer a cream sauce in New England, but they were very good as well. I will certainly return and you should too. read more

Enjoyed an early dinner. The staff was friendly and the food was good. I had Jackfruit Cacciatore which was an inventive, delicious surprise. It was a generous helping and I used the leftovers to make an omelet the next morning. read more

This restaurant is placed down near smcc and didn't even realize it was there until my sister brought me. It's kind of hidden in the way back of the boat yard lot, but sits right on the water. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day and loved the view we had. Food came out quick and was good. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and for someone who's not a huge spicy/hot fan. The "spicy red pepper jam" on it was bearable and delicious. The fries came with a light seasoning on them too. The eggroll of the day was steak and cheese. Kind of different taste for a balsamic drizzle on the plate for a pairing underneath. Our waiter was friendly and food came out at a reasonable time. *The only thing I'm confused about is why they do an energy surcharge as extra on the bill at the end. They said it's to help with the delivery services because of inflation. They don't warn you and I didn't see anything in the restaurant or online saying they do that. I don't understand why they just don't up their food prices like everyone else does. Definitely threw us off as we never saw that before and thought we got overcharged at first since we had no clue what it was. It was only a small amount on top of our bill and I believe they said they do a percentage of your total to get it. We sat outside on a beautiful summer day. You can't beat the view here! We had glanced at the menu online ahead of time and knew what we wanted to eat. We ordered the egg roll of the day, which was steak n cheese. They were good but tasted like a basic pub style appetizer. My entree was a sirloin topped with a corn & black bean salsa paired with riced cauliflower. The steak was cooked to my liking (medium) but I felt it could use some sort of sauce with it. The two cold sides didn't bring out the best of it. The dish needed a little more pizazz. After we were finished, our waiter brought the bill and to our surprise there was an "energy surcharge". When I asked what that was about I was told that instead of raising the prices of dishes, the owner decided to make up some of the price difference (due to inflation of food and delivery costs) by adding on this charge. Personally, I felt that was a little tacky and deceptive. Just raise the prices of your dishes so you can be transparent and the customers knows what their final bill is going to be. read more

*NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT ALERT* I really was looking for a place with outdoor seating and this just happened to be close to a friend we were visiting. So glad we stumbled upon it! North43Bistro is an updated replacement for Joe's boathouse- new construction, beautiful interior, great bar, very food focused menu (they even have a pastry chef!!). We had the burrata salad, miso crusted salmon, the seared sirloin, and the "brownies and milk". All was very delicious, but the dessert actually stole the show. The entire dessert menu was so unique! Also this was easily the best salmon I've ever had at a restaurant. 10/10 would recommend coming back here. read more

I have been there a couple of times over the last few weeks. First it was for my birthday and my friends took me. We were a group of 10, which was awesome, and considering the space, did not think it would be possible, but no problem. The menu offered variety for all guest and all tastes. The drinks were great and everyone had a great time. The staff was super friendly and answered our questions regarding the menu. The services was quick and everyone enjoyed their meal. The space is so nice...lots of glass to enjoy the marina and the water. The dark wood and lighting was just right for my birthday celebration. A couple of weeks later, we went there for Happy Hour on Friday. Because of the glass, the space is so bright and cheerful. The views of the marina and the coast are nice. They have their main dining area and a space for events upstairs. Both have nice decks for outdoor seating and entertaining. Can't go wrong. Stopped by n for lunch and our first visit. My best friend is gluten free so many options for her! They had Honey Badger Cider on tap. Very good! Our waiter was phenomenal. He was great about explaining dishes and giving more details regarding the GF options I ordered a cup of their Southwest corn chowder. It was perfect, not overpowering with spice it was just right. I also ordered their grilled chicken and pesto sandwich on focaccia omg this was so good. I am always concerned ordering grilled chicken for it being over cooked. This was perfectly cooked. The kitchen staff cooking (open concept) all women! Dessert also was amazing and GF options. Will go back for sure read more

Ambiance and location are nice, however the "smashburger" was one of the worst burgers I have ever had. It was not a typical flat and juicy smashburger with charred edges, but rather a normal burger patty that had the life squeezed out of it by a spatula on a flat top until all moisture was removed. It was still about an inch thick and was tasteless and so dry. Service was slow, but it was starting to get busy so I can't really fault the server. The spicy margarita was pretty good, I would have gotten a second one if I had the chance. I'll be heading to Saltwater Grill up the road next time, similar prices but way better food. read more

So nice to be able to experience fine dining and North 43 does it so well. We were a party of six, started with amazingly good mussels and focaccia bread and cauliflower bites. Bloody Mary was just right. Next up entrees, I had the bacon cheddar quiche - just the right amount of pastry, custard /bacon filling and lightly dressed salad. One companion had the salmon taco which was described as amazing. An old standard that stood the test of time - the burger and fries. The turkey pastrami was more turkey and less pastrami but still good. We shared a fabulous Brut Rose, cuz a good Rose' goes with everything. Came here for a nice dinner to end my honeymoon trip up New England and North 43 Bistro did not disappoint! The service was timely and our waiter Matt was excellent. I had the curry spiced halibut and my husband ordered the pork chop. We also split the cornbread with whipped butter appetizer. My husband is a chef and he said the food was some of the best he'd ever tasted. If you are celebrating a special occasion or just looking to have a nice date night out, go to North 43 Bistro! Great view from the patio and friendly service. I enjoyed the main dish but the highlight of my meal was the blueberry pie for dessert.

Came here for a birthday dinner for my brother in law. We made reservations and had great seat on the patio with a view. I had the steak, my husband had the duck, and we split some corn bread. They have a decent drink menu and a good list of bourbon if you ask. Plenty of parking but I'd recommend a reservation for sure on the weekends. After dinner take a walk at Bug Light. It's beautiful at sunset! read more

Great spot in South Portland on the water. Went in winter but imagine the experience is quite a bit better in Summer. Upscale dining with water views without having to go into the Old Port. Food was solid but not on the same level as some of the top spots in Portland. Servers were attentive and knowledgeable. Only negative was the hostess who was not helpful when we asked if we could sit at the open tables closer to the water (which were not reserved). Good addition on the South Portland side- look forward to coming back this summer. read more

We had a wonderful experience at North 43! We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and made a mean espresso martini! The manager, Abby, and the bartender were very personable and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was also very good, but most importantly we were super impressed with how the restaurant managed some challenging dietary restrictions and were very conscientious and helped us navigate the menu from apps to entrees to dessert. Rough service on the patio. Steamed clams were rubber bands and expensive to boot. No wonder the inside was empty.

When I envision Portland restaurants, this is what I envision-- waterside views with great food, and a beautiful building to encompass it all. We came here for lunch and ordered the Fried Haddock Sandwich, while my partner had the Grilled Angus Burger. When we came, we also got the Artichoke and Spinach Dip, which they no longer serve on their menu! The food took longer than expected, considering we came at the later part of lunch! Everything was great for lunch, I would definitely come here again to try out their Dinner menu, as this looks more appropriate for this restaurant. Absolutely scrumptious food and sweetest waitress ever! Meghan could not have been more friendly or helpful. The sauces and vegetables that accompanied our fish were superb. The halibut itself was a bit bland. The salmon was great. The salad was delicious as well. The only thing I was disappointed with was I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol so I ordered it with half the amount. Instead they brought out a drink half the size which completely defeated the purpose! I said I'm not paying $12 for that I hope! So they cut the price but I was surprised the bartender didn't think outside the box on this one. the dessert was the best thing ever too. read more
