Well...I've been a loyal, friendly, family-like customer at #kingsheadpublichouse for countless years. Thought it was my "Cheers". That all ended tonight. I was invited by some charming Irish artists who I befriended who were the musical act tonight to play a tune. Sure why not? Why not indeed. A time honored musical tradition at work. Lovely here we go. But not so fast. The artists, for some reason, felt they had to ask the supervisor waitress Jenny's permission. ??? Wtf? And so the humble and free request of the artists went through the increasingly authoritarian chain of command. And the answer? NO. Against policy. We can't have our Friday night act turn into "karaoke" or "open mic". But you, unknown artist, should come back for those. And not bother us any more. Rich and Jenny and even junior boss in love with his policy agreed: the troublesome artist must go!. You will get your wish. Forever. Curly haired, mouthy waitress especially. Because you didn't care, you didn't do your research and you couldn't give a fuck about art. Only the ego of the truly desperate. And those in love with rules. I may be a biast local who was a previous patron of the original King's Head pub, but I am going to say I am a huge fan of it's return and in the words of "The Terminator"...... "I will be back!" My true rating is an honest 3.5 stars, due to no half stars on Yelp I am giving this newly opened remake a 4 star rating (there is always a period of working out the kinks, right?). I appreciate the renovations, which are modern creative and simple; improving the overal layout and vibe of this local watering hole. There is now a plethora of insanely comfotable booths to snuggle up with yer signifacant other or chill with yer best buds. They must have splurged on the materials for the booths and chairs because they are not cheap, like something out of a new car (hoping no jerks ruin these beautfiully appolstered seats). The updated King's Head Public House now has more of an open feel with unique and rustic metal railings that provide some privacy without segregation and darkness and these very cool and artistic chandelier lights (I don't know what else to call these). Overall, its much more bright, but they still have a dimmer switch to set that evening mood. Nice!! The patio is still there, and an awesome option. I prefer the bathroom renovations as well with a much larger mirror. The bar even seems more inviting with lots of stools to chill and watch one of the many TVs. TVs are spread throughout the pub so it's a good option for game night. FOOD: The menu is typical pub food with comfort flare and a couple healthier options. I tired the Chicken Fingers and Fries with homemade honey mustard; confilcted with this dish. On one hand, these chicken fingers are the best I have had in years!!!! These are just about perfect in ever way; real chicken, not greasy, just crispy enough, not over-battered or over-fried. On the other hand, the fries and dip were soooo not good. The fries weren't very crispy at all and kinda small, also greasy... just disappointing and the homemade honey mustard sauce was barely edible; used ketchup instead. Some easy fixes here (please get better fries!). We also tried the KH Cheesiest Mozarella Meatball Sliders. I laughed because they hardley had any cheese on them (bahahaha) BUT, these were tasty! Also, tried their daily flat bread (price varies), which was Pesto Steak and kapowweeeee that was amazing. That flatbread was my favorite food tried at King's so far. The steak seemed of high quality, tender and tasty and only for $11. The comibanton of steak, pesto and cheese was running my tastebuds happy! Also, tried the BLTA sandwich which was just okay. It was served on a white ciabatta bun, (I would have prefered mutligrain bread). Its also more back bacon (thick ham style) not crispy flavorful bacon, so overall I found the sandwich kinda bland and lakcluster. I had soup as my side beacuse I already new the fries sucked. The soup was clam chowder and a regular menu item; excellent. I was very happy with my soup and finished it before I even touched the sandwich. My date had the Classic Beer Burger and was pleased with the quality of the meat and the size of the patty, however the patty itself lack seasoning (easy fix- garlic/red pepper spice/all spice/WH sauce?) and I agreed 100%. $14. He had the Ceaser salad to accompany his burger and that was a bit strange. Again, a homemade dressing that didn't taste anything like Ceaser dressing. WINE: They offer Dirty Laundry Rose, which is an excellent wine option for wine snobs like myself (one of my fav rose). Overall, I thought the wine list was waaaayyyyyy better than the average pub, with wonderful BC wines like Mission Hill and See Ya Later Ranch! Unfortunately, I can't stand Peller Family Vinyards, which is their house wine and I assume happy hour wine; super sad face :( but if it's your jam.... They also tell you the alcohol content, which I thought was genius (% does matter)! Check out my pic for the full wine list. HAPPY HOUR: Daily from 3-6pm. Lager $4.50, High balls $5, House wine $5 (Peller), Featured cocktails $8, and a featrued sleeve $5. Would really like to see some happy food in the future. SERVICE: Excellent. Friendly. Efficient. Appreciate the bartender/manager?? discussing my drink preferences with me because I can be picky and particular with my cockatails. Maybe, I should tend bar here as a second job?? I had a fantastic experience the other day. Greeted by Robin who is so polite, we were seat quickly to get off of our tired feet and ready for a well needed drink. She told us the specials and recommended a few dishes she heard other customers rave about. Our server Kelsey also wowed me, as my friends and I were the classic annoying type asking way too many questions to which she answered all of them above and beyond. Describing a few of the beers flavour notes and the best entrées for us then promptly had our drinks on the table in minutes. Seriously wonderful experience. Plus the Chicken Snitzel was delicious, that sauce with mushrooms and its hint of Indian spices was incredible! I asked who the chef is, I believe his name is Derrek, I hope I remembered that correctly, so shout out to the chef. THANK YOU! read more

Good God!! Make up your mind already. Every year this spot changes its ways. For a a real (unpaid and non-family member related) review, keep reading. First and foremost, anyone giving this place more than 1 star is out of their mind, or has never patronized any other place in their life. Decor: the spot has been remodeled, redesigned and repainted time and time again. The current look (derived from the previous management The Kitchen Table) is the only thing they've got going for them. It's bright, welcoming, current and gives tribute to it's history. All good things. This is where they received 1 star out of 5. Staff/Management/Ownership: Piss poor with a side of why bother and for dessert, what were you thinking. Owned and Operated by the same man for the past couple decades, this place continues to try and revive a vibe that was built up before this owner took over. Previous owners knew what they were doing, how to treat guests and thrived as a promising spot. This owner has managed to destroy all of this. Nobody in their right mind would work for this man...and yet people do...why? Well, its managed by his son. A Phd student/grad that left the pharmaceutical industry to work in a restaurant. Ummm.....what?!? Something doesnt smell right here. The head server is the owner's daughter, who appears to have had no experience working anywhere else. The family is desperate to keep Daddy's investment alive. Lucky for daddy, he owns the property and rents out three units about this spot. If not for this fact, the place would be closed years ago. Food/Drink: The food is and has been sub-par for a long time. Other than when it was The Kitchen Table, its been a trying time in the kitchen at best. The Beggars breakfast is a desperate attempt to get people in the door to eat something you could probably get from a microwaved airport meal. The are literally begging you to come in and eat. Don't be fooled, the guests are not the beggars here. As for the drinks, well you can mess up pouring liquor into a glass. You can mess up draught beer that pours out of dirty old taps that probably haven't been cleaned since Bill Vander Zalm left office. Don't know who that is...exactly our point. The Kings Head had its time in the sun, when competitors weren't as good as they are now on Yew St. Do your self a favour, save your tummy from a horrible splash works surprise and dine anywhere else. We dropped in for a lunch / snack. Caesar: delicious. Coffee: very good (coffee snob opinion). Nachos: perfectly portioned and the guacamole...... wow! Truffle fries: another trough-full please. Pricing: very reasonable for the fare. Atmosphere / ambiance: During CoViD, quiet but the decor already allowed for intimate seating. Clean, even the washrooms. Service: outstanding. Nice cozy spot that I discovered not too long ago. Good food from what I had/saw. Had some good vibes and I particularly enjoy the layout and use of TV's for games. Kudos to the servers for having to walk all those stairs every trip. Will definitely come back. Only quip is the live music night. Music was WAAYY too LOUD. Couldn't hear anything my buddy was saying across from me, and we were on the top level. Guy is entertaining and props to him for being on stage for a while. But we were there maybe 2 hours and probably had 15min where I could think straight and hear each other. I'm not there for a live concert at Wembley. Turn the amp's down, please. read more

I came to this restaurant with my friends often and enjoyed the tacos and kind servers. I applied for a serving position, and immediately received the most unprofessional treatment. First off, I soon learned that the manager Gargan asked to kiss my 19 year old friend while he was on shift and we were being served, she kindly declined but he asked again. very awkward. he is well into his later 20s. I started my first shift with no one in the restaurant. The manager that I had been speaking to, Gargan, assured me he would be there to train me at 10 am. He did not show up till well after 11. I spent my first 40 minutes awkwardly wiping tables. finally someone showed up. she was very kind. After this awkward first shift experience, I was asked to come in on the spot for the next day, to which I replied that I would have to check my schedule. Once getting back to the manager and explaining that I am already needed at my other job, I NEVER heard back. I had to spam text just to get my paycheck. which they incorrectly paid me for. This was the worst job experience I have ever encountered, terrible manager, incompetent as an employer and BEYOND unprofessional. read more

This place now stinks. It used to be a great neighbourhood haunt for many in the Kits area but clearly a dark poop storm has descended upon the business. It is poorly owned / managed and the food is disgusting. We had an awful visit that had us running down the street to jump in the water! Too many other great spots on Yew Street,,,,please do not waste your valuable time and money to even peek at the non existent decor,,,,the beer may be cheap here but the draught lines and the food lines could use an overhaul and sanitize supervisor.....call the health department!
