I visited today with a friend, expecting to enjoy a pleasant breakfast, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing for several reasons. I dine here frequently, so I am familiar with the typical portion sizes. The meal I received was noticeably smaller than what is normally served. To the server's credit, she acknowledged the issue and offered to have it corrected without hesitation. The more concerning issue involved my friend, who politely requested plastic utensils. She was told they were only available for takeout orders. Due to a medical condition, she does not use reusable utensils in restaurants. We have never encountered this issue at any other restaurant. As a result, we were unable to comfortably dine in. When I spoke with the manager, I explained that refusing a reasonable accommodation was inappropriate. His response was, "You never told me that," referring to my friend's medical condition. To be clear, customers should not be expected to disclose or justify their private medical information in order to receive a simple accommodation. We ultimately packed up our food and left because no effort was made to resolve the situation. Additionally, I had placed a separate takeout order before all of this occurred, but it was never entered into the system. When the check arrived, I was confused as to why the order was missing. To make matters worse, I was informed that I could not order an item from the children's menu as a takeout meal for my daughter. This policy was surprising, as I have never experienced such a restriction at any other restaurant. Overall, this was a very disappointing visit. While I appreciate that the server was willing to correct my meal, the lack of reasonable accommodation, poor communication, and multiple service issues left us with a negative experience. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and reevaluates both their policies and their approach to customer service. read more

I've been coming to Blue Bay Diner for years and have eaten here many times, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I ordered a BLT, and when I lifted the bread, I found small green bugs on the lettuce. I immediately showed the waitress, who was apologetic and kept offering to make me something else, but after seeing bugs in my food, I had completely lost my appetite and didn't want a replacement. My dad was eating eggs and sausage, but after seeing the bugs on my sandwich, he no longer felt comfortable eating the fruit that came with his meal. If the lettuce wasn't properly washed, it makes you question how well the rest of the produce is handled--especially with all the recent concerns surrounding contaminated leafy greens. The manager did remove my meal from the bill, but refused to comp my dad's meal. I felt that was poor customer service. Once bugs are found in a customer's food, it's understandable that everyone at the table would lose their appetite and confidence in the restaurant's food safety. As someone who has supported this diner many times over the years, I expected better. This experience completely ruined our meal, and unfortunately, we will not be returning. Never again. read more

Ate Sunday brunch here a few days ago. Had been there once before many years ago, but didn't remember it much. First thing is that the prices are unusually high for a diner, even in NYC. But then the dishes come out and you understand why - the portions are insanely large. Personally, I'd prefer half as much food as 3/4 the price, but maybe not everyone would agree. Food quality was typical for a diner, which is to say good and predictable, but nothing to get a food critic excited. So why the 3 stars? It was the bill. So confusing. It was delivered to our table with the tip already handwritten in. Another member of our party was paying and clearly struggled to understand the situation despite speaking with the waitress. (Yes, I understand they charge different prices for cash vs. credit, which apparently was the reason for this, but it was done in a confusing and off-putting way. Plus, what restaurant charges differently based on means of payment in 2026? Gas stations, fine. But a restaurant? I've never seen that anywhere.) Would probably not go back. read more

This is a classic New York diner that I have been wanting to try for a long time. We went here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We all ordered burgers except for one person ordered a tuna sandwich, the burgers were all delicious, we paid 6.95 extra to make them deluxe. The burgers were close to $25 each with the add ons, they were juicy and good. I had an ice coffee that was not great but ok. The service was fast and courteous. The restaurant looked clean and old school. If you're in the mood for finer food and in the area it's worth a try. read more

Came here for breakfast with a companion at her request. The restaurant is hug and it's look as it is, a big cafeteria style set up. My friend treated me to breakfast. It's good to be treated once in a while so we ordered the silver dollar pancake and we split then because I didn't want a full set for myself. This way we can minimize the budget. We went casual, very relaxed not worrying about what each other were wearing, just enjoying the time spent and the morning out. The food was pretty good and I was not stuffed because we shared. I had egg whites, turkey sausage and of course the silver dollar pancake. Does everyone drown their pancakes in syrup? My friend did. I teased and we laughed, it was a great breakfast and a relaxed atmosphere. It was also pretty crowded. They do charge a different price for for cash and charge. I offered to pay since I had cash but she didn't allow so the bill was about $5 more which she put on her card. The tea sometimes come luke warm and not hot as one may want. I've been coming here for a long, long time. When my late partner lived in the neighborhood, we would come here all the time to grab a bite. I was back in the neighborhood helping finish up her affairs, so I decided to stop in again for old times sake. The place is clean and bright, and everybody is very friendly. They have a huge diner menu, but we always got one thing, and one thing only. The challah bread, French toast. That's what I ordered again today. It is good as it has always been. Three huge pieces of French toast. Crunchy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. The custard is delicious, and it's cooked to perfection. I had it with a couple of eggs, and they were cooked perfectly over easy. This has easily been the best French toast I have ever had, and the next time I'm back in the neighborhood, I will stop again. The prices are very reasonable. There is a small upcharge if you pay with plastic instead of cash, however, it is clearly delineated on the menu. Thanks again for a great meal. read more

Huge portions! I mean really big! My first time at the BBD! Loved it! My buddy Bubba and his wife Rita are regulars here. They were slammed with people waiting but the very cool host and staff took care of everyone and had our party of 3 seated in 2 minutes. Our waitress was outstanding- sharp, quick and attentive. The coffee cups were refilled frequently as was the hot water for the tea. She brought out a bunch of napkins and a big serving dish with balsalmic dressing to go with the gargantuan side salad( photo). The eggs were hot. Everything tasted good. The coffee was good as well. My salad was fresh and crispy. The menu was pretty extensive with a special brunch menu accompanying the breakfast selections. Our new friends from Chicago who were sitting next to us also were pleasantly surprised with the sheer quantity when they got their orders. The burgers looked great and appetizing as did the bacon. The diner was packed and the staff adjusted very well to ensure a smooth flow of folks in and out of the dining areas. Definitely 5 stars for a fun and satisfying NY diner experience. This place is always busy, because it's right on the exit of an expressway. All our local diners are closing up, but this one remains because of its location. The food is good... However, they are one of the most expensive diners I have ever eaten in. I do not believe that a breakfast for two people should cost up to $100. I think that is outrageous. I haven't been to Blue Bay Diner since my highschool days, that is, until this past Saturday. I placed an order to pick up some matzah ball soup, a chicken caesar salad and a BLT with fries. As soon as I walked in, it was a total blast from the past. I could have sworn I recognize some of the staff from 15 years ago. When I got home, we had a feast. The chicken caesar salad was a huge portion and the matzah ball soups were quite tasty.Next time I will order a large soup as I would have liked a bit more broth. The sweet potato fries that came with my BLT didn't travel so well, so I might not order them again for takeout. The parking is a breeze, since the lot is huge and the handicap ramp entrance on the side is a plus. Overall, a classic staple that has been serving the community for decades. Sadly, the neighborhood diner seems to be going the way of the dinosaurs, but thankfully, Blue Bay appears to be here to stay. A true diner offers an extensive menu that covers just about anything a hungry person could want. No matter the time of day, you can enjoy pancakes at 7pm or chicken tenders at 9am, and that's exactly what makes places like this so appealing. The food is fresh, portions are generous, and there has never been a visit where we didn't leave with enough for another meal the next day. And be sure to save room for dessert, their homemade selections are quite good, with the cheesecake being a standout. Years ago, you could enjoy a meal here at a more modest price. That's no longer the case, dining here is on the expensive side. That said, as I always believe, you get what you pay for, and the quality and portions help justify the cost. read more

I do not believe this place is 3-star level. It is way more than that. First off, we have seen and been through diners of all sorts across the country. There are only a few that can really hold up. Second, Many diners offer a 10-page menu with probably only breakfast items being the freshest of ingredients and everything else is probably frozen. It is not sustainable for any diner to have 18000 offerings of all sorts and to be able to offer steak, tilapia, gyro etc to be obfrom an immediate source. Blue Bay is probably one of the very few establishments coined as a diner to be able to source fresh or pretty close to it, ingredients. Not to say they own cows in their backyards; but clearly from their high-volume turnovers, their grocery stock are replenished faster than most dinwe have experienced. That also explains why many patrons from the area keep coming back. Weekends are over an hour wait sometimes especially for brunch. Many wait staff are VERY friendly and I always request for Sabina (oh please do ask for her!!) In summary, I respect this place for persevering through the pandemic and overall bad economy. I had a craving for a burger, and my friends took me to this diner because they were happy with the burger. When I walked in, the staff was pleasant, but the people dining there were weird. The vibe was mixed, but I was so hungry to the point where I was going to pass out. I was pretty impressed with the food, and the portions were huge. I devoured my soup, and I took half my burger home. Then, after the bedtime routine with the baby, I was hungry again, and I finished the other half.
