This restaurant based in a hotel got decent reviews so I gave it a try. This is typical of many hotels where the focus is the bar with sone table seating. Atmosphere is corporate modern however the booth seating area works well. The menu is short, so some of the items discussed in other reviews were not available. I had a Reuben sandwich with fries and an adult beverage. The sandwich was good to very good and so were my fries. Service was efficient and to the point. The price was typical of a hotel but not outrageous for my order. Overall this is a competent establishment which with some more food offerings and personality could be a more attractive spot vs. the other restaurants nearby. read more

I ordered the Harvest salad with plant based chicken for take out. It was $14 before tax and tip. Bartender who took my order was nice. Food came quick but the salad was a bit lacking. There was only a thin layer of greens. It was topped with quinoa, radish, and some shredded vegetable that I couldn't identify, and the plant based chicken which was okay. Dressing was a vinaigrette. I had a snack prior to the salad, otherwise it's not very filling. I only ordered here because I was staying at the Hilton. Otherwise Sweetgreen down the road would've been a better salad option. This place ended up being out "plan B", after Theismann's was closed for a private event.There were 7 of us from work that dropped by for a bit of a happy hour. The "Tavern" for the most part was a bar next to the Starbucks, with 1 long high-top table that we settled into. That was pretty much it. The bartender/server was attentive, and the selection of beers were limited but good. The menu, from a bar perspective, was very limited and pretty much focused on offerings from the nearby restaurant. No chips and salsa? Come-on man! So I selected two orders of the hummus plate, thinking it would be enough to nosh on amongst 7 people. At $18 per order, I was expecting something robust enough for our group. What showed up was kind of embarrassing to be honest. Each order consisted of three "jigger" size containers of hummus, and other dips, along with 3 carrot sticks, 3 celery sticks, and a single pita, cut into about 6 pieces; all for $18 dollars. I ended up asking for another order, as I could see the offering was completely underwhelming. So, I'm paying $54 for 9 carrot sticks, 9 celery sticks, 3 pitas, and about a half cup of sauces. We found this restaurant on open table because they were running an open table point special. We didn't know what to expect since there weren't many reviews on yelp. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. Appetizer: We order the house baked beer bread with honey wheat blueberry butter. The bread was amazing and didn't even need the butter. For $6, we were expected more than two slices of bread. Entree: We ordered the crabcake sandwich with the remoulade on the side with a side salad. The crab cake was good and didn't seem to have a lot of filler. My husband ordered tavern chicken club sandwich with a side salad. The chicken club was really good! It had a sun-dried tomato pesto on it and it gave the sandwich great flavor. The pancetta was actually crispy bacon. read more

This hotel restaurant is housed in the Hilton Alexandria Old Town Hotel and was established in 2015. It's next to the Sbucks and the hotel lobby. It has a bar that carries numerous beers and at least a dozen wines. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Convenient location because it's right next to the King Street Old Town Metrorail station and the Old Town Alexandria Amtrak train station. The place isn't big. I came here a couple times recently. The menu is standard American. Once I got a quick snack, fried calamari, and another occasion I came here for a quick breakfast and got the vegetable frittata. It was filled with nicely cooked veggies, including asparagus. The calamari was satisfactory, and it wasn't chewy or too greasy. The servers were friendly and quick to respond to questions and requests. It's a typical hotel restaurant. Convenient and plenty of staple offerings like sandwiches and salads which I will most likely try in the future. read more

Tucked away in the corner of the lobby past the Starbucks in the Old Town Hilton lies the Kingstreet Tavern, a bar and small restaurant. The offerings are fairly standard for the VA/MD area, and our party was able to partake in the crabcakes and the Cobb salad, as well as the steak egg rolls as appetizers. In general, the food was reasonable, particularly for a hotel, and the portion sizes were quite generous. The service was slow albeit attentive enough, despite the relative emptiness of the restaurant (we were there about 1930-2000). Although initially it was quite loud due to a large party at the bar, it quieted right down after said party went their separate ways, and we were able to get our business discussions done in usual to low voices without difficulty. read more

I am the fifth person to review this place and am shocked to find, after eating there, that the four existing reviews average out to four stars. Was almost tempted to rate it two stars just to counteract. This being a hotel restaurant, my guess is that those ratings are the consequence of this place attracting people from areas that do not have a legitimate food scene. To a spoiled urbanite It is acceptable if you're in a rush or something, but you can certainly do better. I came out from DC for the day with a work colleague to present at a conference in the hotel and we decided to grab a quick bite before heading back downtown. What a mistake. I guess I'm spoiled by the fairly unique fact that some of the better bars and restaurants in DC are in hotels, and forgot that that's atypical elsewhere, even somewhere as close to DC as Alexandria. The ambiance was, I suppose, the exact uninspired, nonoffensive, nice in a photo-backdrop kind of way, sterile, generic decor one would think of when one tries to visualize a restaurant that exists inside a Hilton hotel lobby. The restaurant wasn't even in its own separate space; It just kind of merges seamlessly with the lobby Starbucks. There is no visible line of demarcation. It was too well lit to be cozy or sexy or relaxed or anything of the sort. The prices were commensurate with what I'd expect from a restaurant in DC proper, but the food was about as bland as the decor. My colleague ordered the fried chicken for $16.99 (I think) and I ordered a crab pot pie in the neighborhood of $20. The waitress did not ask us about our sides or other preferences. My pot pie arrived with a salad that had cranberries and goat cheese. I guess I hadn't even thought about sides because the waitress hadn't thought to ask. But had I known that that's what it came with I might have asked to sub a garden salad or something else. So I asked the waitress whether that was automatic and she said yes and I asked was there not a selection of sides to choose from? The waitress said in somewhat labored English that the salad is what it came with but if they can sub fries or onion rings if I ask them to. It was just bizarre. Either you let me pick my side or you don't. If you do, then why didn't you ask me before you brought the food out? I mentioned this later to my colleague and she noted that, come to think of it, she hadn't been consulted about the mashed potatoes that arrived on her plate, either. The portions of both our dishes were to the smaller side of acceptable, but the food itself was unsatisfying and unsubstantial. It looked to me like there was no meat on my colleague's chicken pieces. The crust on my pot pie was nice but the dish wasn't very deep and a pot pie is supposed to have dough that goes all the way around, but this was just goop cooked in a dish with some dough spread over top. The filling had very little crab or vegetable in it, and was mainly just sauce, which was very liquidy rather than hearty and stew-like. Most importantly, however, my food lacked any complexity of flavor. The crab was flavorless. I could taste only one herb that overpowered the rest of the dish. It was almost like I had sprinkled herbs directly from a spice jar into my mouth - oregano maybe? Thyme? Meanwhile after I told my colleague that my pot pie was flavorless aside from the herb she said that she felt similarly about her chicken, which tasted like rosemary and rosemary, and was otherwise flavorless. She said that she was considering taking the second half home and recooking it with more flavoring. So, all said, bland atmosphere, bland food, bland service, and prices that could easily fetch you something better elsewhere. No thanks. read more

I was in Alexandria recently for a conference. When my dinner plans got ruined by a torrential downpour (as it was taking more than 1 hour everywhere to have food delivered), I decided to order from King Street Tavern. I ordered the Tavern Cheeseburger (served on a brioche bun, with sharp cheddar, bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, & Onion, with homemade ketchup). The order came with a side of fries. To be honest, it was one of the best burgers I've had in a while. They cooked the burger perfectly (medium-rare). The burger was really juicy and the patty was seasoned well. The fries tasted great too! They were perfectly seasoned and not greasy at all. I wasn't able to finish my burger and fries because of the serving size. I can't comment on any of the other foods served here, but I actually enjoyed the burger I had. read more

One of my poor teens wound up with intestinal distention from the mac and cheese... lets start with that. The chicken blandwich was devoid of flavor, and the incredibly greasy calamari were some of the worst I've had in a long time. The following morning, I asked for a chocolate milk to go... AND at $5.00 in a to go coffee cup, I wondered WHY I didn't run to the Dunkin only half a block away. One of the strangest and worst dining experience I have ever had. To start with, the hostess was rude which is never a good start. We were staying at the hotel for the Women's March which was an event that they knew in advance was coming and I assume the restaurant has access to the hotel reservation information so it should not have been a huge shock that there were a lot of people there. We called down to reserve a table but when we got down to the hostess station she told us she did not have our reservation... even though we had literally just made it from the 6th floor. So we ended up having to wait an hour even though we had a reservation. Could not flag the bartenders down for a glass of water the entire time despite standing at the bar for 30 minutes. Meanwhile there are at least 4 empty but unbussed tables in the dining room and there appears to be only one server. I believe her name was Melissa and she was the only person who was doing anything in the restaurant. Finally get a table but no chairs. You read that right. We had to drag our own chairs from the lobby into the restaurant. Food took so long we let the kids go back to the room and just called them when it arrived. It was also not the right food. So, it took over an hour to get the wrong food. The waitress was super nice, comped one of us a glass of wine. The manager was fluttering around but never came over to apologize. Honestly, because the experience was so bafflingly terrible I don't even remember how the food was. My suggestion is that you walk over to Magnolia's on King Street. read more

Bad just bad. Went here for a company birthday lunch. The food was received cold and the wait time to receive it was way too long. We were the only guests so I'm not sure why the service and food were horrible. The manager came by to apologize to our table but even the dessert (obviously from box) was not served properly after. Rarely do I visit hotel bars where I am NOT staying. However, the Tavern ranks up there in great places to stop. For one main reason, Happy Hour and Drink flights! $4.00 drafts, low priced calamari and other bites. One issue with calamari is I think they fail to dry the meat before they dip in breading. Most of breading falls off... Burger. I had the Angus bacon burger and it was outstanding. Very good. Finally, best deal in DC (possibly)...scotch flights. $25! Full shot flights of 12 years. Has to be one of the best burgers that I have had. Had great flavor and juicy. A must have again for sure. It is not a large place by any means. But a nice small little bar/restaurant in the Hilton's lobby. Happy hour is a little pricey but hey it's a hotel that is to be excepted. read more

The service wasn't very good... Ordered a bottle of wine and it came out with a glass that was fresh out of the dishwasher and was still soaking wet and still had lipstick marks all over the rim. I mentioned this to the service and she continued corking the wine and left the open bottle on the table. She brought back a new glass and sat it there.... No tasting, and walked away. So, it's safe to say that the server needs to learn how to properly serve a bottle of wine! She walked away and we still wanted to order appetizers, but we had to wait for her to come back. All the while she was just standing at the bar, looking around, doing nothing. At least the food was good... We really liked everything we ordered. Great location right across from king street metro , this hidden jewel bar is full of warmth and smiles , we stopped for a quick drink , we met this super friendly Russian bartender and carried the night away with tender conversation , we loved the atmosphere and Art Deco of the bar , we recommend this joint , while you are there try their bread pudding ... Had dinner here with a party of seven. My son ordered a burger that was HUGE and he was quite pleased with it. Most of the table ordered the fish and chips and said they were good, although not great. Personally ordered the bangers and mash. I think I may have won and they were fantastic. My wife and I live in Alexandria, and I use Metrorail, so we find this a convenient location. We ate dinner here on February 8, 2017. Our food and drinks were fine. We shared the pretzel bread and the fish & chips. What troubles us in the uneven service. Melissa is great. Redwan, not so much. Redwan was our server on February 8. I'm not sure if he's rude or just doesn't care. Either way, it doesn't and shouldn't matter. We are customers. There were plenty of empty tables and I asked Redwan for a different, larger table, and I got attitude. He finally gave us what I asked for. Soon after I complained to the manager, Benjamin, who agreed that because there were plenty of empty tables there was no problem with my request. Benjamin was great. I mostly come here to start my night in Old Town, prior to heading down King St. I really like the staff and, especially for a hotel lobby bar, there's a consistency to the staff. This is a good thing. They're always professional and attentive, and seem to like and appreciate their jobs. I've enjoyed what I've eaten there, and just need to ask the staff if there's a particular game i want to see. read more

I am old enough to have experienced air travel as something comfortable and even a bit exotic. No more. So, a good hotel is a treat for an exhausted traveler. And, it offered vegetarian entrees and a good beer and wine list. A black bean burger and side salad can be a setup for boredom but these options were delicious and a bit on the exotic side.
