Love this place! Just wish they'd deliver on one of the apps. The 815 Biscuit appetizer is a must-try. It uses sweet potato biscuits but they're not sweet at all so they go perfectly with the salty Virginia country ham and the lump blue crab meat and white gravy. The chicken fingers are also a must-try. Very generous portion, more like multiple chicken schnitzels because these are pounded a little flat (but still thick) and breaded with nice thick flour batter. THAT REMOULADE SAUCE. Meet two of our fellow coworkers from our Chicago and Portland station here. We joined them mid meal. (We were chagred extra due to us being a large party) I got their gumbo and their soup of the day, I believe it was like a crab bisque. There was only one server but it wasn't busy so we were able to get our orders in on a timely fashion. I've tried their sweet potato biscuit and I personally didn't like it. Their cornbread biscuit was good though. I was going to get their fried chicken but was told by my peer that their fried chicken was a day old? So she opt out of that and so did I. From the north side of Baltimore in my last review to the southside of DC in Alexandria, VA for my next review, both of which are far from my home halfway between Baltimore & DC. Representing 2022 in alphabet series, S is for Southside 815. It's not only the southside of the DC area, but it's also on the southside of Alexandria, a few blocks south of Alexandria's "Main Street" King Street. I visited Southside 815 twice both in 2022. The one time I ate there was on Saturday, January 8, 2022 on a date. She lived in the Kensington, MD area, and I had won tickets to Dancing with the Stars live at MGM National Harbor. I thought a cute dinner spot just off beltway in Alexandria would be nice beforehand, which it was. This is a nice restaurant with various old school decor. The service was good & friendly. I was hungry getting a fish (I see they have catfish, so maybe it was that) & chips as well as a crab soup as an appetizer if I remember correctly. I enjoyed the food, but slightly on the pricey side but not too bad either. I think the crab soup was the best part, but it all was good. The 2nd time I went was after a holiday concert in Old Town Alexandria in December 2022. I was happy we were going here as I remembered liking it 11 months earlier, and we came for drink(s). Came out to this area looking for a shovel, ended up here! We were seated promptly in the dining area. I got the Pot Roast. Nice size. The meat was a little too hard for my liking. Collard greens were good. Mashed potatoes were alright. Misto Margarita. Refreshing. You can taste the blackberries on the back end Friend got the Fried Chicken (3 pieces). That came with mashed potatoes and gravy, a small side of cole slaw and he subbed for a cornbread, that was sweet and he loved! Friend got the Black Manhattan. This tasted good. Awesome place for lunch. I had the blackened salmon salad and it was delicious! It also came with some yummy cornbread on the side. I loved the selection of Creole favorites and plan on coming back to try more items. They have $10 Poboys on Mondays so I'm planning on trying out that amazing deal soon. Other highlights of this restaurant include fast and friendly service and a great patio. Inside they have a nice dining room on one side and a casual sports bar on the other side. Great drinks and great food! Group dinner so we had lots of different meals. Everything that I tasted was good. The prices weren't bad either. My dish was the flounder pirloo. The meal was enough for two people. I wasn't a big fan of the asparagus salad topping but it still good. This dish was top notch. Seasoned well and came out hot. For my appetizer, I shared "815" biscuit. I could've eaten that as a meal. It's a savory comfort food that I'm sure is even better in the winter. I wish id gotten an order of these biscuits to go! My favorite hot wings spot. My favorite fried catfish spot. Now that I got that out the way... I did have them both in one meal and it was more than I should've eaten but I don't like doggy bags; especially when I'm full. I don't want to carry anything. I don't even want to walk if I'm being honest. Everything was meaty. Since I started with the wings, that's where I'll start. Every single wing was healthy. It's like they knew it was my first time there and they said, lets give him the best wings we have. I had the regular buffalo sauce and it was perfect for me. So much flavor which is what I want in my hot sauce. I did sweat a little but only a little. I didn't need a napkin just for my head like at some places but again, everyone's heat tolerance is different. For me it was perfect. The catfish was almost everything. It was by far the thickest fried catfish I've had outside of cooking them myself. It was so crispy on the outside and barely flaky on the inside. It had some flavor but I was hoping for a bit more flavor however, it could've been tainted by the flavor of the wings I had just before and throughout the meal. I also had mussels. I am almost always going to have either the wings or the mussels when I go out. I decided to have both this time and it was a good call. Mussels were cooked perfect. None of them were overcooked or undercooked. I loved the sauce. And there was just enough bread to ensure there was no sauce left. Yum! There is definitely a bar scene going on in the front section. Overall a solid pick. It starts off well having a free parking garage nearby and with great weather my wife and I were able to sit outside. The service was good, and friendly. This place is my boss's favorite lunch time places, so about 6 of us went on a Tuesday at 12 pm. I decided to order something simple and not a salad, the Old Pub burger was my choice cooked well done with lettuce, red onion, tomato and shoestring fries and a Diet Coke. There were ketchup bottles on the tables but my burger bun needed some mayo. Our waiter quickly brought it and crisis averted. Cohorts ordered soup & sandwich; spicy chicken sandwich and the po boy. We came as a pretty large party on Mother's Day. We ordered a wide variety of dishes from French toast to steak and eggs Benedict. We were looking forward to this Louisiana-inspired dishes, as they are on a lot of those in northern Virginia. While My French toast and bacon were fine., almost everyone said their dishes were... uninspired. On the other hand, our service was excellent. All had good flavors and the breading on the steak was good. However, the steak was very tough and gristled. It was challenging to cut even with the steal knife. Came in here for dinner with my co workers. The customer service was great. Lots of refills and they took our orders and got our food out quickly. The parking was very convenient. There is a parking structure right behind the restaurant The food, I'm sorry to say was not good. Neither were the drinks, old fashions and the signature cocktails. I ordered the baby back ribs as suggested by the waiter. It tasted like it was cooked a few days ago, was reheated and smothered with BBQ sauce. We also ordered fried pickles for the appetizer. It came cold/room temperature. The biscuit and gravy was very disappointing. My other coworkers liked her pasta. My other co worker was not a fan of the po boy. My other co worker loved her catfish. This place is great! Bought a house in the neighborhood last year and finally came to check it out with our dog who was allowed thanks to the outdoor seating. The cocktails are alright, quite strong! The drinks had almost a bit of an overwhelming flavor. I think there just needs to be a little more effort in terms of mixology since they do advertise as a cocktail bar but you ARE getting your money's worth in terms of alcohol content. We weren't there for happy hour but I remember seeing some good happy hour deals and I definitely want to come back for those. Do NOT sleep on the pizzas. I was so pleasantly surprised with mine! It's not what I came for but it was definitely five stars in terms of food. Ambiance is relaxed and it's far enough from King Street that you don't have to deal with a crazy crowd. I used to stop in every day after work but now I think this spot has become a late night gay bar. Women are treated with such disrespect the moment Stacy leaves. Gee, Pedro and the other male bartenders will ignore solo women while giving solo men shoulder massages. Also, a man sitting next to me became very uncomfortable at the bar when a male patron started rubbing on his back in a sexual way. Very weird because he confided in me and I didn't know what to advise him. Another female patron told me she leaves when Stacy leaves because the male bartenders suck. This place was recommended by gay men but I didn't know the bartenders literally despise solo women. I'm a local (family has been in Old Town since colonial times) and it's sad I can't make this my local bar anymore because I'm discriminated against by what appears to be a bunch of gay men. If you're just looking for drinks, go to Frankie's instead -- it's next door (and coincidentally women owned). read more

Have passed by Southside 815 several times, and finally tried it out. Went out for a work celebration on a Thursday around 3:30/4. We did not need a reservation indoors. They have limited outdoor seating so may need reservations for the patio, unsure. Parking available in the garage in the back (free, on the first floor). I tried the fried pickles, chili cheddar cheese burger, and the spicy paloma. The fried pickles were good but the burger was alright...a little dry. For the spicy paloma, the jalapeño dominates the grapefruit. I was a little bummed on the service. Overall, decent but was given a hard time about splitting checks. We had let them know before we ordered that we will need checks split a certain way, and the response was "I might not be able to do that because it might get too busy later". Ok. Was able to get the checks split (it wasn't too busy later) but why start with that attitude then? Then a coworker was charged 2x on her card and the other coworker's card wasn't charged. Overall, wanted to like it but didn't meet expectations. Will probably explore other options in the future before coming back here. read more

We came here for an impromptu brunch and enjoyed our food here. It has a southern/NOLA diner feel and the food was good. The bread basket was delicious and I liked that it had a variety of items (homemade biscuits, cornbread, sweet potato biscuits). My fiance got the frittata, and I got the fried green tomato benedict with Mac and cheese as my side instead of the home fries. My only complaint is the service. We were seated immediately as it wasn't busy at all but our waiter was kind of standoffish as we were asking him questions, and we had to ask him for plates, water, etc. He also charged our card for another table's food which was around 3x our bill and we were the ones to figure that out. We met up with some old friends here to brunch/munch recently, and I must say, having tried everything we ordered at the table, nothing was anywhere short of good or great. We had a terrific rendition of Fried Green Tomatoes that was awesome! Great, juicy, tender and crispy Fried Chicken! An incredibly delightful and perfectly battered Fish & Chips! I've been driving by this place for years and never had the urge to stop in. They have a patio area streetside that always seems busy in warm weather, so the place seems popular enough, but just hadn't dropped in until one colder December day. Turns out it is a solid place to drop in, with a southern emphasis and a nice looking weekend brunch menu. The bar area has tables and a large bar that they serve at, and adjacent is a moderate sized dining room, so waits don't seem to be a frustration here. On the menu, several items caught my eye, and will be worth a return trip to check out. This inaugural voyage had us ordering the Fried Green Tomatoes Benedict and the Jambalaya Cheese steak, sans the andouille sausage from the regular menu. The Benedict was very tasty, sporting a pair of poached eggs over an english muffin topped with delicious fried green tomatoes, bacon and a hollandaise sauce. Rounding this dish out were some top drawer home fried potatoes. The Cheese Steak was an ample mix of small shrimp and chicken (again, I had the sausage removed) with plentiful roasted onions and green peppers with melted jack cheese on a nice sized toasted roll. My only nitpick was the chicken on it was very tough, either overcooked or not properly cooked and perhaps stored away. The sandwich is served with a side of fries and a small side of coleslaw. Our highlight however was their signature Brunch drink a Dill Pickle Bloody Mary. The price was right ($10), had a dill pickle infused vodka (great flavor!) spicy tomato mix and arrived adorned with a large pickle and large cocktail shrimp spear. Definitely this is a must-have for bruncher's and others who fancy a nice bloody mary to accompany a meal. As mentioned, the menu has other southern options that sounded (and as we spied them being delivered to other tables, looked) very promising to warrant a return visit.
