Inside Westin lobby, can't miss it. We ate the continental breakfast twice two different days. The presentation was plated well for what it is, eggs made to order, toast, sausage, mini potatoes and extra small veggies. So, we ordered a Justin (Paso Robles) 9 oz ($19) but was charged $29. Waiter and Manager did not know what to do with the " $5 off any food item" when you checked in on yelp, to a point it was not worth it as they were indiscreet about the way they handled it. I mean I was there to wait and pick my hubby on his last day of work conference so that was uncomfortable, to say the least. I even said to them to disregard to no avail... Ordered a dessert (coffee gelato) was horribly sweet and inedible, it was like eating cold chunks of packed sugar--not pleasant! The Kim Crawford Savignon Blanc my friend ordered was not chilled and tasted stale as was my Michelle Brut tasted flat! My friend had to put ice on her white wine, see pic. Where was the bubbles on that brut? Checking out, as you can imagine was challenging because my hubby hastily handed his credit card without the itemized bill presented to us so of course we were charged with more than what we ordered upon confronting the waiter. He took out a price for the "high noon" we did not order and he still charged $29 for the glass of Justin(red wine). At that point, we just wanted to settle gave him 18% tip and left... yes, the whole experience was unpleasant and upsetting and definitely left a bad note to our mouths. Simply put I do not and will not recommend this place for service was awful,food was inedible and wines were flat & stale. We had drinks at the Trademark at our last night staying at The Westin. We were seated at the bar and not really in a hurry. The friendly and attentive bartender helped us out. I had the blackberry mojito off the menu. It was fruity and refreshing, but not too sweet. My friend asked for something with Rumchata and she and the bartender decided on Rumchata with dark rum. We are calling it the double rum. Her drink was quite strong, but she's a sipper and was pleased with it as well! We liked our choices well enough to order another round of the same! I had high hopes for my visit to Trademark. Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience. I had a 6 o'clock reservation for a party of 6. We were seated immediately. The ambiance in the beginning was very nice. The waitress Tara came over not to long after we were seated. She took our drink order and they were out of chicken wings. This was the first downside to this visit since our original plan was to have drinks and appetizers. The next issue was they were extremely short staffed. Arounds 6:45 more guest from the hotel came to the restaurant. There were a lot of kids and adults that were walking around maskless. The restaurant did not enforce the mask mandate. They also allowed for tables to be overcrowded. There was at least 10 people at a table for 6 and kids hanging behind the chairs. Therefore, there was no social distancing. We ordered appetizers about 15 minutes after we arrived. We had the buffalo chicken spring rolls and crab cake Caesar salad. It was pretty good. Prior to the influx of people Tara was pretty responsive. She came to our table maybe twice to check on us. However, around 7:25 we were still waiting to place our order. The appetizers had worn off and we were hungry. At this point, we were ready to leave. My friend literally had to find and go over to the waitress to ask for the check. She brought the check and apologized. She had been running all night. Staffing was so bad that they had the chef delivering food. In any event, we decided to stay because nearby restaurants were booked. Tara took our order. The food arrived about 20 minutes later. I ordered the cheesesteak and fries. The sandwich was dry and lacked flavor. I only ate 1/2 of it. My friend fries arrived cold. She had to send them back but she said her burger was good. My other friend had the caprese salad. She said it lacked flavor. The fish and chips received a pretty good review. To finish the night off the restaurant had a dog visitor. Although cute, it was out of place. I would have given this place 1 star but I've taken into account Tara's customer service. She did the best she could under the poor staffing conditions. I would not recommend this restaurant until they are fully staffed and their food is better seasoned. read more

Very sad that this place changed. It doesn't have the same ambiance. Too bright in here now. My husband I stayed here because the hotel is great and we LOVED the fish and chips. We haven't stayed here in a while but decided to treat ourselves and then found out no more fish and chips. A gentleman who sat at the bar next to us said, what, no more fish and chips, that's why I came here too, the bartender said everyone asks for those fish and chips, and it's the same chef, just different menu. Please, please bring back the fish and chips. You gave Gordon Ramsey a run for his money with them. The malt vinegar in the tubes was also genius. Not large pancakes at all so I would say a little overpriced. My friend got an omelette which came with a side of potatoes, also a small portion. Given Trademark's location in Carlyle, it was pretty quiet in here on a Friday night at 6pm. Bonus: I was happy to make it in time for the great $5 specials on better-than-well liquors. Nice space. It's part of the Westin and adjacent to that hotel's lobby so there were quite a few other single diners in here, some on their laptops for company. The hosts were smart about placing the folks eating alone at tables in the more private parts of the restaurant. Kudos for the thoughtfulness on this. The menu is good sized, nothing too weird. Most everything was pretty straightforward with small nods to the local setting. For me it was between the caesar salad with the crab cake (saw my neighbor's, it looked good) or the Trademark chopped salad and I opted for the latter. It was a good choice. I love salad but know that I usually need starch or a protein to feel satisfied. I ordered mine with the optional fried shrimp (actually a lot more shrimp than necessary, I think) and it was definitely filling. The black eyed peas and corn in the salad were great additions and turned the salad almost hearty. The salad was dressed appropriately though I had to pepper mine up. No problem. It's a nice, comfortable, and clean space. Wait staff were kind but somewhat kerfuffled at moments. There was a bit of tripping over each other at the computers and running across the floor of the expansive space. I'll return, hopefully in time for drink specials again. read more

Was out walking with the wife and we decided to finally try this place for dinner. We were seated right away and had a very friendly waitress that care right over to take our drink orders. For dinner I ordered the TM hanburger and my wife had the chicken sandwich. The burger had really good bread, but was kind of dry, the french fries were very thick and crispy. Food itself I'd rate at 3.5 stars. I had the butternught squash soup and my daughter to the mac-gnocchi and cheese (their varient of Mac and cheese). The service was great tough. My 4 year old was treated so well, and I they moved the seat back and pushed her in they handled all her needs swiftly. Though sometimes it would take them to see a need rather than foresee a need but I can't blame them; I don't think many families come here. Big shout out to our waiter. My soup was decent and I have no complaints though something felt missing or maybe a tad bit too much salt. The Mac and cheese well I don't personally like it my daughter who loves it it liked it but she didn't finish it all or close to it. I think the gnocchi was the issue as she's never had that and it's larger than the small macaroni pasta. This restaurant/bar is in the Westin Alexandria. After having driven a distance, we were really happy to find such a good restaurant bar right in our hotel. Happy Hour is from 5-7 at which point there are some really good deals to be had, like $5 house wine, $5 house liquors...Husband had the bourbon (think it was Jim Beam), $2.00 off draft beer, $6 wings, $5 loaded fries. Nothing exciting, but good and reasonable. Loved the bar staff and the host...everyone had great attitudes and a sense of humor. We really enjoyed it. When two locals joined us we moved from the bar to a table. They helped us finish off the wings and the fries. Wings were very simple, lightly spiced with ranch on the side. I was glad they weren't breaded. The real stars of the show were the two Mac n Cheeses. They are so rich and packed full of flavor. The Cuban is loaded with bacon and ham. Couldn't taste the mustard that was supposed to be in it though, that would have made it even better imho. It was topped with a couple fried pickle slices. I stole a couple bites of the Eastern Shore one and it was just as rich and loaded with lump crab and lobster. Yum! The burger was a hit also. We managed to sit there long enough to order two desserts for the four of us. I can't remember what the flavor was on the cheesecake, but the small couple bites I had was nothing exciting. What WAS exciting was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Surprisingly light, warm...so good that everyone's eyes lit up when they got the first taste. As for items off the regular menu, I thought they were quite reasonable, especially for DC standards. The Cuban Mac N Cheese was $13 and the seafood one was $16. Desserts $7. The atmosphere is nice. Semi dim lighting, standard/high tables throughout, and bar seating if you're interested in catching sports games up close. We started with appetizers. Fiancé had the bacon candy and I the Buffalo chicken spring rolls. The bacon while a bit fatty, the taste was okay. The Buffalo chicken spring rolls nice portion since they were mini. The flavor however didn't dazzle me much. A little more heat; spice wise, sauce, bleu cheese, and even cabbage throughout could have elevated the taste. Now for dinner. The trademark cubano with fresh cut herb fries was pretty tasty! The crab cake Caesar however missed the mark. When I order a crab cake, I'm expecting crab meat. The texture of the crab cake was soggy and inedible. I explained this to our waitress, Katherine, who was very sweet by the way and she offered a new salad with grilled shrimp instead. And the chef came out to speak to me about the crab issue which was nice. All in all, I appreciated the efforts of everyone. read more

My whole experience at Trademark was perfect from beginning to end. First of all, who knew that inventors could be so hip? The decor of the restaurant is a nod to it's neighbor the Patent and Trademark office. Inside you will find vintage books, old apothecary jars, and black and white prints of inventor greats. All of the bar snacks I had were Pinterest worthy. The candy bacon was made to look like hard candies wrapped in kraft paper. I couldn't wait to dig in! The bacon was cut thick which was perfect because the glaze had tons of nooks and crannies to fall into -- it was a truly decadent snack! I also tried the soft and pillowy pretzel bites which came with a mustard or cheese dipping sauce. The pretzels were piled in an artfully arranged brown paper bag and then presented on a chalkboard slab. #pinning The lobster mac and cheese was the real show stopper. It came in a cast iron skillet and was filled with large chunks of lobster and lots of bubbling cheese on top. The server realized halfway through the meal that I like my food spicy so he brought out a plate of lightly fried red chilies to put on top. It was true perfection in a skillet! The drink menu was designed by a Todd Thrasher protege so I sampled a few cocktails as well. I tried the Pisco Sour, Headless Horseman, and their version of the Old Fashioned. The Headless Horseman was light and gingery and was the perfect drink to end my meal. The Old Fashioned had a unique twist from the classic recipe -- by adding grapefruit bitters and a splash of grenadine. The addition of these ingredients added a subtle sour and sweet flavor that mixed well with the rest of the drink. Can't wait to come back and try their full menu (and steal some wedding decoration tips since it is being held at an old Washingtonian library/research center!). read more

So I guess that I have been coming to the Trademark when it was just the Westin, and I have to say, that some improvements to the menu are certainly delicious. However, I'm here to talk about the yummy Lobster Mac-n-Cheese. My credentials for rating mac-n-cheese stretch all the way back to college where I often fought off my roommates' attempts to pirate my Kraft cheesy special at every turn. Arguably, this is one of the best mac-n-cheese options in Alexandria, with a creamy sauce that embraces decadence and chunks of lobster that would bring a nod of approval from even the most stalwart Maine fisherman. It was so filling that I had to take a break halfway through my cheesy wonder, envisioning Grandma's version which just doesn't stand up to this lobster-filled delight (Sorry, Grandma), They serve their mac-n-cheese in a skillet, which is a nice touch, and I can see myself ordering another round the next time I'm hanging out at the Trademark. read more

(1/11/14) I really like this upscale neighborhood bar which is conveniently located near the AMC Hoffman movie theatre. The PTO inspired design, vintage accents, books, and aesthetically pleasing color scheme are particularly appealing. I've visited a few times and the atmosphere is comfortable. The staff, food, and craft cocktails are enjoyable. There's a large television in the dining area and customer service has been consistently good as well. I've had the Chesapeake pot pie which contained crab, shrimp, lobster, and veggies in a flaky shell. On another occasion, I had the turkey burger that had portabella mushrooms and gorgonzola cooked in. This resulted in the burger having an assertive but nice flavor and the potato roll was so fresh. I plan to work my way through the menu. Up Next: Eastern Shore mac & cheese! I'm also a fan of their Perilous Punch cocktail which is deceptively sweet and refreshing. I'm feeling good with just 1 but I'm a lightweight in that department. They warned that the Old Fashion would put hair on your chest so my brother ordered it and agreed. He said "This for grown folks" as he was swallowing. +Tip: Depending on the time of day, street parking can be a slight challenge. Take the time to legally park and feed the meter because that area is closely monitored. read more
