I love the quality of the patties they use on their burgers but man do I wish they upgraded the cheese they use for their cheeseburgers. You can barely taste/feel it. They should either put two slices of cheese or just get better cheese. Even the American cheese they use at McDonald's would be so much better. Anyway great place. No frills joint with a friendly staff and quick service. We got: - Halibut fish and chips: The halibut was good quality, though the batter was just a bit too thick and just a bit too crispy. Substituted the fries with onion rings and those were amazingly sweet like the best ones are. Good value for the price. - Cheeseburger: Tasty and good size for the price. The burger is charbroiled well and they load it up with everything. Would have wanted a bit more cheese on there. Overall, a nice stop if you want something cheap that tastes pretty good. Came to this funky burger joint with my girlfriend. It was a hot day and we were looking for a good place for burgers, poutine and milkshakes. This place seemed to fit the bill. When we arrived it Kings Drive-In had that cool 50s diner's vibe. They feature cool stuff like F'Real brand milkshakes, Coke Flavor Wave and a giant tailgaters beer bath. My girlfriend ordered the poutine at $5.75 with a pop. They only have one size of pop but, its free refills. I ordered a Double Cheeseburger and wanted a milkshake but, they were sold out. I ended up snagging a 3-dollar beer from their giant beer bath.  The poutine was good. They use steak fries, the gravy was only okay but, the curds were fresh and even a little squeaky. The fries were good when soaked in the gravy. My double cheeseburger was good, the bun was nice topped with sesame seeds. The burgers were the frozen type but, it still had good flavor and it was nice a beefy being a double.  King's Drive-In was a cool joint. I am not sure I would go out of my way to get there as there food is more on the frozen end however if I am in the area for a burger and a beer I would definitively return. read more

This place is great for cheap eats. I had a burger ($4.30), steak cut fries ($2.50) and a soda ($1.00). For the price the burger was pretty good. Pretty standard cheap diner burger. The fries were cooked perfect and seasoned with just the right amount of salt. I really love when a place has a Coke Freestyle machine. It gives you the choice of so many different kinds of drinks to choose from. My favourite these days is the lime Fanta. The girl that takes your order is super friendly and has excellent customer service skills. I will definitely be going back. read more

The new/old kings drive in is back in business. Excellent simple homemade burgers w/a ton of toppings to chose from. All meat, no filler. The poutine is HUGE! Wish the gravy was hotter & fries homemade. But enough for 4 people. They have a special on right now for $2 shakes. Unfortunately, they only had Mango left when we went. Owner was waiting on order of 1500 more. Hopefully will try next visit. Unique pop dispenser 2018 tech. Hit button for selection of at least 15 different flavours. Free re-fills. Staff on the ball and oh so nice. $2.99. Domestic beer ! Only thing is they should close side door it's too cold for that, as it's near seating. Constant cold breeze every time door opens. Perfect for summer. Lock in winter. Tons of parking. Prices very reasonable. Will be visiting again. Gotta get homemade onion rings The king is back in town. Big king burger for 7.80 was a lot of meat but not much else. Yes it's big but it just felt like meat overload. Should've just gone with a banquet burger. As others have noted the burgers are good but not great. I found the meat bland. For about a buck cheaper I prefer a Five Guys burger for flavour but the King Burger has to be about 50% bigger. Onion rings were really good but you don't get too many. Halibut fish and chips was good (12.50) but the Haddock at just under 10.00 is probably a better deal unless you really want halibut. Fries are just ok. They aren't fresh cut and they are chunky like the old Toby's fries. (If you know what I'm talking about you're old.) Place is pretty small so tough to get a table. And it's really cold in there. No wonder the girl behind the counter had a toque on despite standing just a few feet from the grill! Best deal is the drinks. $1 for water or fountain drink and $3 for a beer. You can't beat that anywhere. And I love the photos of the "kings" including King Kong, King julien and two kings played by James Earl Jones. sorry to be nit picky but although Eddard Stark sat the Iron Throne as Robert's Hand he was never actually the King. This rating is in regards to food handling, rather than the food itself. I'm super grossed out by my experience and won't be going back. I bought a burger and fries. There were three staff members in sight, one at the cash and two handling the food (a man and a blonde woman). The man handling food sneezed all over his arm, and didn't think it was necessary to wash up before returning to the food. The blonde woman was wearing gloves but TWICE while making my burger ran her finger quickly underneath her nose (to wipe it? I love King's Drive In!! The atmosphere and decor is very old school, with lacquered tables with old school coke designs and Marilyn Monroe and comics on them. The food is to die for!! Everything is fresh made for the day and if they run out there is no more (mainly their fish and chips, steak on a Kaiser) Yesterday I had their banquet burger with generous amounts of bacon and their poutine with chilli. The burger wasn't overdone at all, nice and juicy and the bacon was cooked well but not dry or burnt. Their fries are thick cut and you get a lot in your box, they use cheese curds and homemade gravy as well. The chilli was also home made and a great topping to it, the only drawback is the bottom of your fries do get a bit oily from the chilli. read more

This place is dirty, the food is terrible and the customers are terrible. Walked in and tables were full, not full of people but with coats and beer cans. A little boy smiled at me so I smiled back at him his trashy mother said 'what are you lookin at' I said that I smiled at her son because he smiled at me. Some woman who was dancing outside came in and started yelling that everyone screams at her and some man bun got into a fight with some old guy 'it is your world we just live in it'. This place serves beer for 3 dollars so every creep in the area seems to gravitate here. First began visiting the original King's 45 year's ago and was excited to see the opening soon sign last year, even though the white castle look and colours were a little strange. Frequented a few times since it opened, the latest only a couple of weeks ago. Had the King with bacon the earlier times and remembered how after finishing thinking "wow, that was way too much meat!!" so I ordered the banquet burger (one patty), a poutine with chili and a soft drink from the Coke freestyle machine (lime coke zero). Did not order the onion rings because the batter to onion ratio is way off the charts. They are so big (and oil soaked) because of the amount of batter that you only get 4 or 5 rings in an order. (Onion rings always make me miss People's Foods and the old Harry's on Broadview, north of the Danforth). The banquet burger is one of the better "old school" burgers out there. Juicy with thick cut bacon. Good meaty taste. Toppings are fresh and the bun holds better than it doe with the King. A satisfying burger. The poutine with chili was good. The chili tasted great but the type of fries used (wide and flat) keeps it from being a great poutine...great as a stand alone french fry but not when you start throwing things on top of them. Staff are nice and friendly. Seating in the restaurant is very limited but with the better weather, seating is available outside. The only thing I really did not like was the one visit (when it first opened) where I saw a bin of hamburger patties sitting in its blood by the grill. read more

Had the banquet burger with fries. Cooked to perfection! Place was obviously sanitized with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Absolutely delicious and reminded me of a 50's diner. My bf is British, he misses thick cut chips. That's why we came here because it was recommended to us. We enjoyed the meal, the servers were very friendly and welcoming. We got fish and chips. Ordered a chilli chees dog, 2 "steamed" hot dogs (as per the menu) and 2 fries. My roomie said the chilli chees dog was fine. I'm from Montreal so "steamed" hot dog, to me, means plump, steamed dog in a soft steamed bun. The dogs were grilled and dry as a bone, the buns not steamed or even toasted...and tasting vaguely "off" somehow. Not moldy, just...off. Not what i was expecting, not what is advertised. I guess the best I can say is it was ok. Nothing special, and probably won't be ordering from there again. read more

Very cute little burger place.Not actually a drive in but a park in front. I had a banquet burger and it was pretty good .You could taste the charbroil which is always awesome. The fries were served a little cold which I was surprised about (Im not super picky abt that though, so I had some anyways). But, they were freezer burnt... The pop also was just super watered down (coca cola). Didnt taste like coke at all, more like a knock off brand (which is weird because it was branded as coca cola). I switched to root beer to see if it was just the coke, but nope. Tasted like a diet drink. Lastly, the burger was average. Had a King Burger, fries and onion rings. Like Square Boy, exactly what you'd expect - decent food at decent prices. These are classic burgers, not craft burgers. Nothing fancy, just good honest food. Fresh, not frozen patties. Classic toppings (like lettuce, chopped onion, sliced tomato, sliced pickle, relish, mustard, ketchup, mayo and tzatziki.) The service was friendly, reasonably fast for a new spot working out the kinks, and the beers are only $3! Can King's Drive In supplant Square Boy? I think so, but only time will tell. read more

Been four times since restaurant opened a few months back. I've had all the standards. Burgers, fish and chicken. Every meal better than the last. The onion rings are amazing. The staff are super friendly and they don't dawdle. You're hungry when you walk in and they know it. Line ups can be common but it's worth the wait which isn't too long. So glad to finally have something REALLY GOOD, at a more than reasonable cost in the 'hood. I'm a long time customer for sure! read more

I ordered a burger and poutine for delivery. The burger had cheese on it and I'm allergic to dairy. I reached out to KD trying to resolve the issue--no one responded. I paid $1.30 for an onion ring which they put in the burger so I couldn't eat that. I was charged $1.30 for two tiny slices of a pickle that everyone else provides for free. Hubs said his poutine was tasteless and pathetically small for the cost--he counted all of 14 French fries for the order. The small box it was in was half empty. read more

I ordered the fish and chips, and it was absolutely and completely the worst piece of fish I've ever ordered. I think it was a piece of freezer-burned frozen fish dipped in....I don't know what. It was hard, thin, and completely unappetizing. Unfortunately for me, I got it to go, or I would have returned it immediately. It was inedible. The fries were ok, but taste just like the ones that I cook for my family - a bag of frozen french fries. Nothing impressive at all. I am so disappointed. I live around the corner, and I had heard good things. My friend's souvlaki looked pretty good, but based on this fish, I would never go again. Why bother when you have Square Boy close by? Ugh. The people are very nice. The prices are reasonable. The food, is just okay. The cook used his bare hands to grab some raw fries and drop them into the fryer. It turned me off. The burger was okay, not terribly juicy. The thick cut fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside but did not taste fresh. The gravy was okay, just a bit cold. French fries are quite good and, as Ken C. described, like the steak fries at Toby's Good Eats (I'm old?!). Otherwise this place is selling quantity over quality. Onion rings are far oversized, giant rings of very sweet batter literally drowning a scant stringy bit of tasteless onion. The rings weigh several ounces each, are the size of giant bangles, or a large Danish pastry, and are nearly as sweet, yet there is almost nothing inside the batter. Really?! Onions are SO inexpensive that this is mind boggling! The fish and chips are greasy - too much so - and have far too much batter surrounding an otherwise nice, small piece of white fish (different kinds on offer). The milkshakes are simply the worst I have ever tasted. Music is profoundly loud! Ouch! Place is like a walk-in freezer. Avoid this place. read more
