I really wanted to like this place -- I'm a runner who lives in the neighborhood and being able to get regular foot massages would be great. As I was thinking about going here, a Groupon deal for it came up -- even better!.. I called on a Sunday afternoon to make an appointment and she said that they couldn't take me that afternoon. Okay, no problem. I said what about next Saturday or Sunday. She asked if I had a coupon and I said yes. She said that they would not take me on Saturday with the Groupon. Strike one. I said, funny, I didn't recall seeing that condition when I bought the Groupon. I said I would call later in the week and make an appointment. She called me back a couple of minutes later to say they could take me at 5:00. Just before I was about to leave, someone from Kingston called my house and spoke with my wife. The person asked what time was my appointment and my wife said at 5:00. So I left and arrived precisely at 5:00. The door was locked and I knocked on the door. A man came out and said to come back in 15 minutes. Strike two. Okay, I left and came back in 15. The same guy says to wait 5 minutes. I am a bit irritated at this point. 5 minutes pass and I go looking for the guy. He says the therapist is parking the car. Meanwhile, another person has arrived. The therapist comes in and asks if I have a groupon. I say yes and hand it to her. She looks at it and says she will give me an hour appointment but she can't honor the massage today. Strike three. At this point, I am so irritated by how they have wasted my time, I don't want anything to do with them. Maybe this place is great -- there's lots of positive reviews here. But it's not a place I want to do business with. UPDATE: I received a gracious email from Julie repeating her offer to provide an hour session. I'm so sad to write this. The first few times I went I LOVED kingston's and don't get me wrong, their foot massage is great but if you're looking for friendly, this is not the place. I scheduled an appointment for my father in the morning and then one for myself and my boyfriend in the afternoon. Apparently, my mother had scheduled the same appointment for my dad without letting me know so when the time came, they thought my appointment had simply not shown up. For some reason, this prompted the woman at the desk (her name is Julie) to cancel my other two appointments. When I showed up for my appointment she explained to me that he never showed up and therefore she cancelled my others as well. I did not feel like arguing so I left because their next appointment would not be for another half an hour. On my way back I called to ask for her name and then she and I ended up going back and forth a bit about the situation where it felt as though she was trying to blame me for what had happened. She then offered me 20% off if I came back and waited 15 minutes. At that point I was in a bad mood and no longer felt like supporting this business. Sadly, neither I nor my mother, father, aunt OR boyfriend will be returning because of the poor customer service. A final thing: My dad also let me know that when he tipped the lady $5 she looked at him and said: "I gave you an hour massage" which guilted him into giving her more money. I usually go to Pain Stop in Wicker Park, but gave this place a try, as it's closer to home. It's a similar - but nicer - experience. No intake form and very casual. Unlike Pain Stop, my deep tissue massage was very relaxing and didn't cause me to wince. I highly recommend this place for a no-frills, good value massage. read more

Overall I suppose I will give 4 stars but I wish I could give 5. The reason is because the actual 60 min deep tissue massage I got at Kingston was a very complete and satisfying one. At 65 an hour, that price point can't be beat. That great price point unfortunately comes at a price, the irony! So the layout of the business is such that there's open ceilings throughout the massage room floor. That means you can hear everything going on in other rooms and even the front desk area which is rather active, at least when I was there. It probably didn't help I was in the room closest to the front door/desk but still. It was also a bit brisk inside which can make getting undressed during winter months a bit of a nuisance. Because I'm not spoiled or entitled I really don't need all the other stuff other than the massage itself which was great and priced well....I just can't say it wasn't a factor. If you are a massage purist maybe you will take issue with this but for me, the value is definitely there plus they almost always meet your schedule. 4 stars solid read more

I had a terrible massage today. First, a questionable-looking white man was at the desk on the phone, and an Asian woman was on the couch checking her phone. He ignored me, but she approached me and neither of us could understand each other. She was surprised I was there, although I made an online appointment with "Anna" at 2 pm for a 90-minute Swedish/pregnancy massage. No one there had that name. That man was loud and walked back and forth through the salon, and never came across as anything professional or reassuring. She interrupted another therapist in session and there was quite a bit of confusion until I was finally asked to wait for a few minutes. No one asked about injuries or allergies or pregnancies. I was led to a room without instructions. The therapist left the room for about 5 minutes, wasting my time. She did not do Swedish massage, which is what was listed online as my option, but some kind of hybrid that including her sitting on me, stretching me and pounding on me -- none of which I asked for, and none of which I like. She also did not appear to know how to massage -- the technique was odd and uneven. She did not massage the front of my body, something I never experienced. There was little relaxation and nothing therapeutic about it. At the end, a woman tried charging more than the listed price, and there was some unpleasant discussion about that. I also looked up licensing with the city, and can find nothing - not saying it's not legit, only that I can't find anything. It claims to be a no-frills place, but it isn't even that. What a great find in the 6 corners/Portage Park area! I've been there twice and the atmosphere is pleasant. The price is excellent for the quality that you get-$28 for an hour. For that price you get head, ears...yes ears, arms and neck while your feet are soaking. Then a real workout from your knees to toes including the bottom of the feet and all the pressure points. For those who are skittish about people touching their feet. I don't think you'd have an issue. You're not getting tickled but a firm massage. All those kinks are sure to come out. I'd been experiencing some moderate pain in my neck and lower back for a few weeks thought it was just poor sleep and stress. Perhaps I slept in a bad position and wasn't stretching enough in the morning. I was referred to Kingston Reflexology I and emailed them late at night and I had an email back the following morning. I'd never considered massage therapy or acupuncture as relief/treatment of minor neck or back pain (for myself). In my opinion, it was for the release of stress/relaxation (but not for pain) and I had little knowledge of its origin (other than it involved very small needles) and Eliana was very patient and explained how it worked. She explained what I can expect, as well as the possible minor side effects (none of which I experienced), and asked several routine medical questions you would be asked during an intake visit with your physician. As I have never experienced acupuncture, her voice was calm and reassuring as she explained everything she did and I relaxed easily. I was so relaxed I fell asleep (literally, I was out cold within 10 minutes). Being the skeptic, I didn't schedule a next visit after the treatment as I wanted to be sure I felt fine the following day (I FELT FINE). I will be scheduling another appointment. A nice quiet, neighborhood place, beautifully/peacefully decorated with wonderful massage therapists that hit all of your problem points. My last therapist used her knees and her elbows to give me my Swedish massage, and I felt wonderful after! I've been to Kingston a few times now and have never been disappointed. If you're looking for all the frills of a typical spa, you won't find it here, but that is certainly offset by the prices, quality of service and cleanliness. This place provides the best value for your money compared to many of the higher end spas in Chicago. Albeit in a remote location on the northwest side, it is worth the drive! They are very accommodating with their appointments, inclusive of couples. I never feel like I'm rushed when I'm there and the people doing the work on you are very competent and take their time - great attention to detail. I typically get the 90 minute combo with the foot reflexology immediately followed by a massage. And if you like deep tissue/sports massages, they are fantastic at it! The studio is always maintained very well in terms of cleanliness - everywhere from the main floor to the restrooms. I thought it was going to be a great experience but when i made one request to the front receptionist person, she started being very rude. From telling me at the last minute she couldn't honor my request after agreeing to it, to charging my credit card extra after the session without my authorization, to telling me she had no one available for 10 hours to do a basic massage when I called. I really wanted this place to be the place I go to regularly for many, many years but felt like I was not getting the minimal that I paid for. I felt worse leaving than when iIcame. It is supposed to be a relaxing place. I wish you luck but please treat your customers with professionalism and honor. As much as I tried to make excuses for your establishment and gave you many chances, you failed to meet me in the middle.
