Nice book and trinket store. Most things here are Japanese related but not all things including the books. The items here are either priced on the normal msrp (some may see it as high). They also have their own gundam section/wall. There's a pretty good cook book selection though nothing on sale prices. Plus a far back curtained section as shown in the photo.... read more

Austin's Kinokuniya is in such a cool area, and the store itself is extremely tidy and well organized. The attention to detail to make the book selection experience as user friendly and comfortable is immaculate. Such a fun store with a diverse variety of merch and practical items. This is a sweet little books and import shop. It can get crowded, so be prepared for that. There's a ton of stuff to peruse so it's pretty understandable. The staff are all friendly and helpful too. The space is kept incredibly tidy and organized. Anything popular and Japanese you will find at Kinokuniya. Anime stickers, buttons, pins, figures, etc.? Yes. Hello Kitty items? Absolutely. Pusheen plushies? You bet. There's even a whole section of the store that's dedicated to Studio Ghibli. Not just a plush or figure, but note books, artwork, and home goods! Great place for art books, stationary, and to see what merch has been releasing for various anime fandoms. Majority of the store is merchandise imported from Japan and the prices definitely reflect this, they can feel a little gougey when what would be like a $4-7 dollar keychain in Japan is priced at like $20+. I don't buy much when I visit but I have seen things like I make a mental note to check online or any of the proxy services I order directly from Japan through. I do splurge on pens and art books from time to time or last minute gifts for the homies when there's something too cute to pass up. Definitely a cool place full of unique books, mangas and gifts, patronized by an inordinately large collection of introverts all studiously ignoring eachother except to apologize for their own existence when needing to move past one another through the aisles. There was a large selection of English language mangas as well as Japanese language mangas and Japanese language children's books and educational materials. There were many adorable stickers, tons of anime merch as well as Pusheen and Sanrio. There were more markers and pens than anyone could ever use, origami paper, incense and holders, and just, innumerable hard to find treasures. Five stars. Highly recommend. This store is very chaotic and was overcrowded when we popped in. They have a great selection of pens and writing supplies and a few cute things. It's a lot of the anime Asian pop type stuff. We went solely for the pens. If I went back, I'd do it on a weekday to be able to even look at anything without getting squished against by passers by. There's definitely a "easily offended and still live in my parents basement" vibe to many of the crowd that was there that day. This is a super kawaii and fun store that has a large selection of Japanese stationary, pens, greeting cards, books, plushies, accessories, trinkets, and more! The store is very clean and organized. There is a table at the entrance with hand sanitizer and masks; masks are currently required inside. Right when you walk in, the left wall is lined with beautiful greeting cards that are very unique but simplistic. The aisles closest to the greeting cards contain a wide assortment of pens and other stationary goods. If you like manga, you'll love looking through their manga section. In case you don't know how to read Japanese, they do have manga translated into English. You can also reserve a book ahead of time and pick up/pay at the register. And don't forget to check out all their plushies! You'll be tempted to buy them all and take them home with you. Also, be sure to bid the giant Totoro farewell when you exit. read more

This is a huge stationery/boon store featuring lots of Japanese items, including manga, cookbooks, classics, Japanese-made pens + notebooks, and more. I liked browsing the items, but unfortunately I didn't find anything I wanted to purchase since most stationeries were priced on the higher side. For example, a very thin notebook with barely any pages was going for $16 and a pencil case was priced at $21, whereas comparable items can be found online at a fraction of the price. Located at such a convenient location, we either come while waiting for Kura next door or right after having Kura so we can properly digest the food lol Though we are probably not their targeted customers (yet), I wish they had a little section for younger kids to sit and flip through books, a safer place so kids don't get accidentally stepped on while choosing which book to take home. Kinokuniya is one of my favorite stores in Austin. It's located in a really nice complex that has a other cool places like 99 Ranch (an asian supermarket) and 85 Ranch (an asian bakery and boba shop). Kinokuniya specializes in Japanese stationary as well as manga and anime related things. I mainly go their to buy manga. They have an amazing manga selection, easily the biggest manga selection you'll find in the Austin area. They all always have their manga cling wrapped so you're the first person to open it and read it after you buy it. I've bought manga from here many times and I will continue to do so. The only downside is they never have sales on the manga outside of their membership Tips - You can buy a $25 membership that gives you a 10% off discount on all manga. - There's a lot of cool places to check out in the complex so you can make a nice outing out of it. - They usually stock manga a few days earlier than the release date so you can get them before they are officially out. read more

It does tend to get a bit cramped if there is a lot of people inside, so be prepared for that.There is a big Totoro in this store that is perfect to take a pic with located near the stationary area. I am a super-fan of Japanese journals, fine paper, and pens. There are no shops in my home city for feeling the paper or trying out the pens, so I was excited to head over. I loved the shop and was able to find the (soon discontinued) Tomoe 52, A5 journal, and a few pens. They also have stunning letter-writing paper, and the clerks were knowledgeable and quite helpful. I also have a kid who is obsessed with Pokémon and she was able to find some great graphic novels in English. I wish they had a wider range of journals/paper and of pens, though, such as Sarasa pens. read more

Right off the bat 10/10 for all your stationary needs. They sell the most cutest, random things you didn't think you'd need until you come here. I'm very impressed by the selection of items they sell here, from cute little pins, to art sets, to stickers, cards, bookmarks, you name it, they got it. You need to check out Thier card section, there is literally a card for Evey occasion from humorous to cute, there will be a card there that expresses the mood you're in. I recommend strolling thru the entire store and you'll find something you like. The plushie section has all the cute like anime characters to pokemon to BTS. Overall great experience here. All I can say is wow I have been to kura revolving sushi bar many times before and this is right next to it so I'm surprised I haven't been here before, but I'm really happy that I did. I really want to learn Japanese and get some manga and this store has it all also they have a wide variety a different kinds of books not just children's or adult books they have everything the selection they have is huge service there's also very pleasant. I asked one of the clerks what's a good book I can learn for someone who wants to learn Japanese and she guide me over and said what each book will do for me. It is a bit pricey, but then again, I will say it is quite worth it to go there once in a while next time I want some this is the place to go read more
