I recently popped into Kinship Coffee to get some studying done. It seems like I wasn't alone; other folks (as in one other person and my friend) were also hitting the books. However, there's a one-hour time limit, which is a bit of a bummer if you're planning on a marathon study session (though I'm not sure how strictly they enforce this since we didn't stay that long). On the plus side, I definitely appreciated the free WiFi. It made staying productive a lot easier. That said, I did end up with a headache, which I think was due to the strong scent in the air. It was a bit overwhelming. Overall, Kinship Coffee has a nice vibe for a quick study session, but be prepared for the time limit. I quite like this shop! They have cuppings of their espresso every monday, that I haven't gone to yet but I love the idea. I've tried a decaf oat flat white, a tea, and their "Winter Tonic." Amazing! Astoria is blessed to be the home of Kinship Coffee Roasters. In my opinion, they are top 3 in all of New York City. The quality of their coffee is top notch. They know exactly how to dial in their shots and they have a wicked pour over machine. I don't know how they do it but their beans and roasting are incredible. I also buy their beans and grind them up at home for my Chemex coffee. Their baristas know how to steam that milk! It's such an important part of coffee and they nail it. Big ups to Kinship. Nice cafe -with friendly staff -but disorganized service, We came here last Sunday for a hot brew and herbal tea. We were in line and were told someone was in front of us. It wasn't worth arguing about. We wanted to order tea and coffee that we could get immediately and asked for recommendations that didn't take 15 mins or more. This is my favorite spot to work out of in Astoria. I wish it were closer to where I live, but it's proximity to the park is also so ideal. With ample indoor and outdoor seating, chill music playing that isn't so loud that you can't concentrate and giant tables that allow you to spread out all your work from home gear onto, they really should look into charging folks rent for office space (though I usually end up dropping a decent amount of money here when working here for hours). Service is prompt, friendly, and helpful. Their assortment of baked goods are always fresh and tasty, the croissants here are nice and flaky just how I like them. As far as prices go, the more creative options (like a lavender latte or maple cold brew) will run you less than other spots like Moa, and are just as good. I really enjoy their ginger peach tea, it's perfectly light and refreshing, and hits extra good on a hot summer day like the one's we've been having as of late. 10/10, no notes. read more

I came to kinship because it was recommended to me multiple times by people in the neighborhood. I came on a Sunday afternoon to get some work done. The service was great the baristas were kind and knowledgeable. I ordered a quiche with mushrooms and other things. It was delicious!!!!! Perfectly crispy, flakey, and flavorful. I also go an iced dirty chai and wow you could really taste the richness of the espresso. It wasn't too sweet either which is always a win with iced chais. The cafe was roomy and clean. My friends from the track club and I started coming here after workouts when it was too cold to sit outside at The Barn coffee shop. Turns out Kinship's coffee is excellent and I really like their cold brew! The cold brew is very smooth and easy to drink with not much bitterness/acidity. The pastries are ok and staff is generally friendly. I also enjoy seeing like half of the customers with their dogs. Was in this afternoon (7.29.23) and two baristas were talking SO LOUDLY (a short female with brown hair, bangs and glasses who came in at around 1pm) and a male (taller, glasses) and were just going on and on about her upcoming vacation and flight and nervousness about forgetting medicine and how her fiancé blah blah blah. I have been in NYC for over 15 years and moved to Astoria almost 2 years ago - I do not expect the warmth and friendliness outsiders do. Kinship (near Astoria park) is my closest coffee shop. By default I have been here a lot. Service can be kind and friendly. However there is one particular barista who I feel is a bit newer to the team, (maybe 6 mos or so but I can't be sure) she is CONSISTENTLY quite rude. Decided to write a review after leaving the shop with another patron who exclaimed how terribly rude this barista always is. I'm sure they don't need my patronage. I normally never review places because I understand what it's like to have to work in customer service and maybe have one off day, but today I realized this Kinship wasn't just having one off day. I live in the building where this kinship is located and loved the convenience of grabbing coffee there. The wait time is normally long, but they put a lot of effort into making the coffee taste great so it's usually worth it. But today the normally rude staff was especially rude. My mother ordered a mocha latte and later realized she forgot to note with almond milk. Before the coffee was made she told the woman with short blonde hair and another woman to please use almond milk. They faintly responded but acknowledged. When her order came up, they had made it with whole milk. We watched the woman look a little defeated and say "oh shit". We assumed she would correct it, but continued to serve everyone else. After 10 minutes my mother asked how long it would her order would take. The woman indicated that she made what was on the ticket. My mom told her she asked for almond milk and the woman rudely replied it's going to take a while! We asked for a refund and no one even apologized! They acted like it was a privilege for US to drink their coffee. My mothers a nurse who took care of covid patients during the height of the pandemic and still does, so she definitely doesn't deserve to be treated this way, especially when their coffee is already $7.50+. My advice: go to Mighty Oak Roasters down a few blocks. Their coffee is just as good and EVERYONE there is super sweet. read more
