This place has always been and continues to be one of my favorite places to eat in Greater Cleveland. Where else can you get all-you-can-eat sashimi, sushi rolls, hibachi, and other appetizers for under 30 bucks? I went here for dinner, and for $28.99, I got a whole lot of sashimi, sushi rolls, hibachi scallops, shumai, strawberry ice cream, etc. Everything was delicious. The sashimi tasted great, and the sushi rolls were filling, though thankfully, Kintaro doesn't go too heavy on the rice. I thought the hibachi scallops were better than a lot of non-AYCE hibachi restaurants. They were tender and flavorful, and if I wasn't absolutely stuffed from the sashimi and sushi, I would have gotten another order of scallops. Like always, the service was great, and the staff was friendly. Our server frequently checked up on us and refilled our waters. So glad that you can still get a reasonably priced, delicious, and beyond filling meal here, even during these times of economic uncertainty. read more

The first time we went it was we fine, the hotpot and bbq were poorly explained and there is stuff on the digital menu that wasn't in the hotpot menu paper. Everything tasted fine, so we just assumed it was a communication issue. So we came back, this time it had a quarter of the menu and the quality took a sharp dive. Pretty amazing since it had been less than a week. Most of the menu was missing, our waiter seemed clueless, nice but clueless. I've never been to a hotpot that didn't have quail eggs all day. All the grill meat came out frozen, the cuts were thin and bad. The green peppers tasted like the blade that cut them, dry and metallic. I don't know that was way too wild a swing in quality we won't be back. We can't win with hotpot in Ohio it seems, for how much hotpot is in the US, I expect better than this. I have been coming here for a while and unfortunately this last time was a bad experience. The food was great however, this was not a good experience because of our waitress. Our waitress came back three times after the bill was paid and said "the tip isn't enough". The amount of tip should be reliant on the customer not on the server. Before we had even received our bill, she made comments about tipping and stated that she "doesn't work for free," which made our entire table feel uncomfortable and pressured. When my sister tried to leave, the server stopped her and would not let her walk away, confronting her about the tip. This was completely unprofessional and inappropriate. Went tonight. What stood out was the mediocre service. Server was awful. Never checked on us, no extra napkins, never asked about refills on drinks. I ordered 2 steak hibachi, a few of us did, but only got 1 plate. They told us they merged the 2 into 1. I said ok, I want another steak hibachi. I think they brought me something weird. Kintaro has such a cool concept--all you can eat hot pot OR sushi. I love that you get to choose your own experience! Just a heads up: you can only pick one (hot pot or sushi) and you can only share with people doing the same option, so plan accordingly. We chose hot pot, but the sushi we saw looked gorgeous--super fresh and beautifully presented! For the hot pot, there are tons of yummy options to cook with. Our favorites were the thinly sliced meats, potstickers, fried tofu, and the tempura fish cakes--all super flavorful and perfect for dipping in the broth. You can order as much or as little meat and veggies as you want, which makes it easy to customize. Best broth = Chinese Spices broth (so flavorful with the perfect kick!) I really like their sushi. Full stop. I think they do a solid job at making balanced sushi rolls, they are filled well and the ratio of rice to filling is nice because they don't have too much rice. I also think the quality and taste of their sushi rice is perfect! of their I like the menu, there are so many different options to try. I've been a few times recently and tried different rolls. Of the specialty, I really liked the Nissan roll. And, I love their Alaskan roll, because it comes with cucumber and avocado and salmon. Sometimes places don't have the cucumber in their roll- and that's just not an Alaskan roll! The cream cheese rangoons are great. I thought I might be disappointed because I like crab rangoons, but they were still tasty. How can you say no to a fried shells with cream cheese on the inside? The service was great. I've ordered once AYCE sit down with a friend, they were quick with service and attentive. The food was okay, I got the honey dew boba. I went with one other person. When our food came, there were two separate plates. In assumption that we had separate orders, we were confused as to why MY rolls were on the same plate as the rolls my friend ordered. For context, I got cooked sushi whereas my friend had a mixture of raw & cooked. Our specific server was okay. I order the same thing every time I go to Kintaro, but this specific time my order looked different. Our server continued to ask me if I had ever been there, and said that there is a strict 10.99 up charge PER POUND on food. Found Kintaro with great reviews... so off we went with the family, including younger siblings and grandma. Not sure if I'm just not used to today's all-you-can-eat (AYCE) prices, but had a bit of a sticker shock with $28. Ok... so we decided that AYCE would be silly for grandma and little siblings - they don't eat much at all, so 3 of us would get AYCE and 3 would order from the regular menu. Food was great, so I can understand the high marks, but the experience was very stressful! Because of the fact that we all didn't get AYCE, we were reminded again and again by our server that: 1. We cannot share our food with the non-AYCE eaters. If they "see us" doing so, then everyone will be charged the AYCE prices. I cannot count how many times she told us this as we placed our individual orders. 2. For the AYCE eaters, don't order too much because if you don't finish, they "will charge extra!" It felt like she kept coming back frequently to look if we were sharing, BUT... didn't bother to refill our drinks until asked. I absolutely love the endless sit down sushi concept and have been to quite a few. First time here... Staff was super friendly and the rolls named after cars. I enjoyed the unique variants of deep fried options. Unfortunately, the rolls reminded me more of China buffet sushi than high quality sushi with the same concept here in Pittsburgh. The freshness just wasn't there and the batter of the deep fried rolls was a bit tough to finish. Apps like the Rangoons and gyoza were tasty (except squid slightly rubbery). Stop by here while I was visiting Cleveland for work. I always love some good sushi, and they had very good ratings from what I saw. We came around 6 PM on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't too busy, didn't even have a wait. We were very graciously greeted by the host, upfront and seated immediately. They actually offered an all you can eat sushi menu or hot pot menu. If you come with two people, one person can do hot pot and the other can do sushi so that was nice to mix-and-match. Me and the person I came with were both craving sushi so we just did that. We were greeted by our server shortly after we were seated and they were very kind. We were able to mark off the items you want it on the menu and they brought it extremely fast. It's the fastest I've ever gotten sushi anywhere. The only reason I gave them one star below five is because it wasn't clear upfront what they meant by all you can eat sushi. They have some strict rules about waste and can potentially be charged if you don't finish everything. So the cost wasn't really worth it unless you were eating 3+ rolls per person. If I was rating off of food alone, I would have given this place 3 stars-- everything was okay. Not super fresh but didn't give me food poisoning and the presentation was decent (ie the sushi boat). I was mainly thrown off by the service here. This was my family and my first time in the midwest, and I felt like the service here was fairly rude. There was a miscommunication with our tip as we were a party of 6 (so we expected to have gratuity included). I love sushi but I don't want to eat a 6 to 10 piece roll. And it was supposed to be spicy but it barely had any flavor. The teriyaki items were overcooked and chewy. The tempura, though cooked well initially, was lukewarm at best. If your menu says something is spicy or crunchy, there needs to be spice and crunch. The food does not live up to the menu. Always craving sushi and Kintaro is a fun AYCE experience, if you haven't been. With this pandemic, I've been iffy about buffet style places. Love that Kintaro's process is to mark how many rolls and small plates you want and they'll bring it to you. Don't pass on their basic rolls at the top middle of their paper menu - can try a bunch of 6 piece rolls. My faves are their spicy rolls and anything with yellowtail. Can supplement with one of the special rolls at the bottom. Those typically have 8 pieces and are more hefty, so make sure you don't over do it! Be mindful of food waste and just order a few at a time - can always order more later! (They can charge for wasted food by weight, at their discretion.) Would recommend getting some hot tea or sake with your meal, ordering an app and/or soup with a few basic rolls to start. I'm a huge fan of their beef udon soup, seaweed salad, and shumai as starters. Haven't yet tried their AYCE hot pot, but winter is upon us here in CLE so I'll be back! Not sure I can pass up a sushi option though.. They can accommodate large groups and they have lots of parking, so it would be good for an occasion. When I think of AYCE, I kind of already assume that I'm giving up quality for quantity. But this wasn't the case for Kintaro at all. All of their food was decent quality! I also really loved how many options of everything there were, especially with the sashimi. The sashimi was the most worth it in my opinion, because you don't have to fill up on rice. But if you do want to order some with rice, make sure you are checking off the menu in the right place. We ordered ikura and the roe on the wrong part and ate it by itself which we didn't prefer. One tip: while the fried appetizers are pretty good, they fill you up too fast! Definitely consider sharing one between several people if you really want it. Came here for AYCE Hotpot with my niece. We were given menus, pieces of paper and was told to write our orders on the paper and NOT on the menu. We went with pork, beef, tempura, tang ho, napa, mushroom and spinach - this is all we got each time as the options were limited and/or other items didn't appeal to us. As for the broth, we got 1/2 and 1/2 - Chicken and Sichuan. We used chicken broth once, then cooked the rest in the sichuan broth. Both broths were under seasoned, sichuan broth is not spicy at all, so don't be fooled by "sichuan". If you are considering doing 1/2 and 1/2 like us, then just get sichuan. I would also recommend you go to the sauce station, get a bowl - add in chili flakes, some green onions, garlic, soy sauce and anything else you want - then pour the mix into the broth to give it more flavor! Skip the pork - it's the pork loin, tough to eat, stick with the fatty beef, which is what we need from 2nd order forward. I've heard great things about the all you can eat sushi/hibachi restaurant and was finally able to give it a try. Service started out on a great note with being able to be seated right away. They have sheets of paper where you write the quantity of whatever item you would like. Kind of like barrios. The gentleman came and took our sheets right away and our food started to come out within 5 minutes. The dragon roll was pretty good, along with the seaweed salad. I don't like raw fish so I made sure to get cooked sushi specifically. I tried the steak hibachi as well and that was flavorful. The veggie and cheese rolls weren't too bad either. This was all during their lunch all you can eat for a decent price. Not too overpriced and not too cheap. Definitely recommend for sushi/hibachi lovers next time instead of visiting Wasabi.
