Came for lunch on a Wednesday and it was excellent. They have lunch specials so I ordered the 3 roll special (eel avocado, Boston and the shrimp tempura roll). Started with a seaweed salad. Hubs ordered the sushi platter with 4 different nigiri and a tuna roll. His came with miso soup and a green salad. Ice cold with a miso peanut dressing. This place is amazing! Fresh food! The spicy Kani salad to start is a must. Or without the spice either way. I got the miso soup which tasted great. The broth was very good. Sushi app came with 6 pieces and they let me choose which fish I wanted. I went with the escolar (white tuna) salmon and tuna. All tasted so fresh and chill to the perfect temperature. This was good sushi at a very reasonable price. The shop was slammed with to go orders, but the waitress was still serving tables too. By herself. The sushi was fresh, tasty, and the menu was ample. The food is amazing and fresh. However, the restaurant actually turns guests away stating they are not taking any tables at this time! WHAT? Now, they may have many take out orders - and that is an assumption when they tell guests the wait is very long. So, why not hire more people?? From what was observed, only a server and a sushi chef were working at the restaurant. It's not good business to turn people way. Hire more people, close the dining room before you seat guests or don't honor take out during busy hours. Good luck getting a table! read more

Just a heads up, they are currently take-out only! The sushi is delicious! It's important to me that everything tastes fresh and how it's supposed to, and this place hits the spot! I like all the different combination rolls on their menu, it's nice to have options. Lived in Japan for 18 months. Umi Sushi has the best/freshest sushi or sashimi I have found since being back, and I have tried a LOT of other places! Friendly at pick up. Kristy the owner is super nice, it's a great little place, tastefully decorated, in the plaza across from the islander. Oh the memories at the islander & even some of them are good... Miso soup coming out. Hot & refreshing, a good palate cleanser. I love the wakami I spent half a party eating all the dulse my friends mom sent. It's got to be healthy. Ok here comes the pearl roll. Wow it's good!! My favorite roll yet. No nori just the sushi, see photo. The roe really finishes it off w a little pop. Beautiful. My Son and were dubious about trying this place. Its in strip mall. Its in Cleveland.... need I say more? Boy were we in for surprise. My Son LOVES salmon... they have a dish called the Salmon Lover ($16.75). You get raw salmon prepared 3 ways. 6 pieces of a roll; 3 pieces nigri; 4 pieces of sashimi. Salmon is fresh... I mean FRESH. I had some of the sashimi and there was no hint of fishiness. I ordered the Chicken Teri Combo with Steak Teriyaki ($15.75) - served on a hot iron plate (I do mean hot) so the bottom of the meat is slightly seared since the meat is resting on a bed of onions. The sauce is thick and sweet, but not sickly sweet... it was perfect with a bowl of white rice. You also get some steamed veggies along with it (broccoli, baby corn, snow peas and asparagus). I also ordered some nigri on the side. Saba ($4.75 for 2 pieces) not overly marinated. Good balance of contrasting flavors. Now what really surprised me... on the specials on the wall.. I saw they had Toro!! Seriously? In Cleveland? I ordered a piece of nigri ($8.00). It taste and behaved like toro I had before. I was GOOD Toro!! Melt in your mouth good. Yes, I am a believer. If you are in Cleveland attending one of the many Conventions... and you have a hankering for good sushi, then the name of this Restaurant says it all. Umi!! read more

I've been past this plaza countless times and even gotten take out from the Jets pizza next door but low key never noticed the sushi place also in the plaza... On a cold and blustery winter night my girlfriend and I decided to check it out... There is food and drink happy hour so we went with a traditional California and fried shrimp roll. Both were good! I came here because of the review on Yelp. I ordered a tuna tartar, an uni, a sushi & sashimi combo that came with a spicy tuna roll, and a fried rice. The tuna tartar and uni were a bit salty. For the sushi & sashimi combo, the nigiri was surprisingly small (both the fish cut and the rice portion); I have come to several sushi restaurants and this one had the smallest nigiri size, even smaller than those you find in a buffet restaurants. The fish cut was acceptable. Plus points for the spicy tuna roll was that meat amount was actually much more than rice amount, size was bigger that usual maki roll, and the added avocado and fish roe on top made it fancier than other basic normal spicy tuna roll. Fried rice is okay but not appealing enough to recommend. Some other plus points are the friendly server and pretty looking food presentation. Overall, food was okay and price was okay. Not sure if I would come back due to the tiny size of the nigiri. read more

The dine in area is small, but there were tables available for walkin seating. Love Umi Sushi. Always fresh, always friendly. I am by no stretch of the imagination a sushi connoisseur, but I know what tastes good and I know what tastes fresh, and that's what I get at Umi Sushi. Their presentation is always very nicely done as well. I have ventured a little bit off the sushi menu as well, and have found their other offerings to be good too. The Yaki Udon Seafood Noodle, for example, is where I usually land if I'm not going all sushi/sashimi. I've also had their more "Americanized" dishes such as the General Tso Chicken, but I would recommend sticking to what they're good at; Sushi! Finally, I would highly recommend their chocolate lava cake for dessert. I know, I know, it sounds crazy ordering dessert from a sushi joint, but this cake is to die for. I'm certain it's from a box or some other pre-prepared arrangement that's cooked up in the microwave, but it's delicious! And I wouldn't lie about chocolate cake! read more

Certainly was entertaining. We (4) walked into a completely empty place. Guy at counter could barely bring himself to look up from his phone. Sat down at a table. (the ONLY people in the entire place). Host walks over to tell us that "we are super busy and we won't be able to see you for at least 30 mins". We looked around..rubbed our eyes to make sure they were working..after all, we couldn't see anyone. But we can take a hint. So we left. It's a small restaurant, but luckily my friend and I beat the rush for dinner! The tables are close to each other too, so be comfortable having people around you while you eat. The service was very quick and polite. I also love how they name each of the item once they serve it to you. It was like the star of the show was being presented to us. FOOD TIME! First things first, I had to get the gyoza. We didn't even wait too long for it, and the presentation was BEAUTIFUL. (Look at my picture) I took a bite, and WOW, it was one of the tastiest gyoza I've had. I'm sure it's difficult to make bad gyoza, but this one didn't have that generic taste that you get with heating up frozen gyoza. It was the perfect size- I wasn't struggling with my chopsticks to pick it up. It had the optimal filling to wrapper ratio; I enjoyed those bites for sure. Then, I ordered the salmon nigiri (salmon sushi) and the Angel Roll. The salmon nigiri has PERFECT fish to rice ratio! I love it when sushi places don't put a huge wad of rice!!!!!!! They didn't skimp on the fish either. As for the Angel Roll, it was subpar. I think there was a horseradish sauce on it, and I'm not a big fan of horseradish, so eating it was not as enjoyable as eating the gyoza. But the presentation yall...... so beautiful. (Again, look at my picture) Overall, I'm not gonna judge a sushi place because I didn't enjoy the taste of the roll. The fish was fresh and the ratios mentioned above were on point. My friend and I ordered hot sake it was on special for only seven dollars for a large and we got the maki dish for two that included the Alaskan King crab rainbow roll, the passion roll, the Alaskan roll with cream cheese and a tuna and avocado roll we both each got soup and salad as well with our meal. My mother ordered a spicy roll which she said had some type of breading or crouton in/around it that she didn't like but it's not a deal-breaker according to her.
