Met a friend for lunch, she got Miso Ramen, I got a sushi roll that was heavy (in a good way) on tuna and we both enjoyed our meals. Was not very busy on a Monday and the server was cool with us catching up with each other for about 45 minutes before we even ordered. They provide some complimentary kimchi but we never tasted it. We decided on Kinya for a sushi night in Durham. It was Sunday night and thought it would be decently busy at the 7pm hour. The place is very large with a check-in counter L shaped sushi bar and several area for table seating. There was a short wait so we opted to sit at the bar as they were very busy. Always the sign of a good spot is folks lined up so I knew this was a great pick. We were created by the owner with water and she suggested a sparking sake which was on the sweeter side and a unique option. We had to flag down a waitress to put in our order but she was kind and we were very aware that they were very busy and it was peak hours so it was understandable. She brought us out kimchi as a complementary appetizer which was a simple welcoming gesture. We decided on the Under Sea special, Alaskan, Rainbow Rolls and a seaweed salad. The sushi came out as it was ready which was completely fine. We also the kitchen creating masterful sushi spreads. The rolls were well executed and delicious. We noticed how little rice was in the rolls. Overall, it was delicious and a vibrant open atmosphere. I saw a private room near the restrooms for privacy also. This was a great experience. read more

I ordered the lava tool it was really good. My family all got hibachi and everyone loved their food. My one kiddo said the only complaint was the steak was a little tough. The complimentary kimchi was so good it did have heat so if you are not a spicy eater you might not like it. I did also order the rainbow bubble tea at 50% sweetness and next time I will at 30% sweetness it was still a little sweet for me. My husband had a one na beer option and said it was alright. My family said we will be back for sure and Diviya (so sorry if I spelled it wrong) was a pleasure to work with and provided great service! Yesterday was supposed to be cold and wet, but it wasn't. We went for Ramen anyway. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I got the Kinya Ramen and it was delicious. I just wish more ingredients were in the ramen, less noodles. The pork was tasty as was everything else in the ramen. Charlie got a shrimp hibachi and while it was tasty, the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. SIL got a poke bowl and ate all of it! She loved it. Ches got ramen too with an app-the seafood pancake. It was full of flavor. It's a big open room with nice decor and the service was good. Oddly, they bring out one dish at a time. Those who got their food felt obligated to wait for the rest of us. My buddy and I finally made it to Kinya Ramen in Durham ( @kinyadurham )for lunch and I'm so glad we did. i can't wait to host a party in their massive karaoke room which can fit 50 of your favorite people. (they also have a smaller karaoke room that can fit 20 guests) A few of our favorite dishes included: Soy garlic wings which were crispy, saucy, and finger-licking good. The signature Kinya ramen; rich, decadent, and simply unforgettable!(my buddy enjoyed the tonkatsu ramen with chicken) The sukiyaki with beef; that sweet, savory broth is still living rent free in my mind Shoutout to the soup dumplings; even though i didn't get one, I lived vigorously through my friend's satisfying reactions And to finish, the taiyaki (a fried, fish-shaped pastry filled with creamy sweet red bean paste) served with matcha ice cream, plus brown sugar milk tea with boba. Ambiance is solid, went on a Friday night and there was a line. It seemed like there wasn't enough staff since 30% of tables were empty upon arrival. Service was solid for being short-staffed, food came out at a decent time frame. Now on with the food; ordered a few apps which were all delicious and the yakitoris were tasty, except the beef was a bit chewy and overdone. We finally made it to Kinya Ramen in Durham this weekend, and we loved it. Next to Harris Teeter and across from Sprouts it sits at 202 West NC Highway 54. We started with miso soup and kimchi. Both were simple and very tasty. The ramen was very satisfying, and even the protein bowl was superb. What impressed us the most was the service from the moment we walked in. The front counter team moved efficiently, and genuinely friendly, to get everyone seated at a table or the Sushi bar without issues. Our server, Jared, was outstanding. He guided us through the menu, checked in at the right times, and made the whole meal feel cared for. We left grateful for Jared's attention. We'll absolutely be back. Visited this place because my friend told me they opened recently! To be completely honest, I'm not a huge ramen person so I opted for their sushi, but I wasn't super impressed. I felt like it tasted a little bland and their sushi rice might've not been seasoned. However, the service was great, we got our food in a timely manner, the plating was super fun, and the interior design was very cute . Kinya is the newest ramen spot on the block! I do feel like when it comes to casual ramen, this place is a great option in Durham specifically. I got the Ramen Combo with Tonkotsu Ramen and Shrimp Tempura, which is a really good deal because the appetizer is full-size. The Tempura were huge, perfectly crispy, and filled with tender shrimp. The Ramen was pretty standard: good amount of toppings (spring onion, black fungus, fish cake), decent noodles and broth (not as deep in flavor as I'd like it, but fine overall), and adequate chashu (on the thinner side, not as tender or fatty as I prefer). I asked for chili paste on the side, which my server provided for free. Also, they had forgotten the egg on my ramen, which was immediately corrected when I brought it up. Ambiance is really nice, very modern-feeling: I came with a party of 10 people so we were placed in one of the private rooms in the back (where karaoke is also an option if you provide them enough notice!). Service was friendly and fast. There's lots of parking up front. I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation, especially on weekends, because it gets pretty busy. 8/10 would recommend, so comforting on a cold winter day! read more

We showed up right when they opened, and the space is really nice--plenty of seating and even two private rooms for bigger groups. They were a touch dry but the taste of the soy garlic sauce (which was sweet) came together nicely. Would return just for the ramen which was the perfect meal for a winter day! Our server was super friendly and attentive. We had a party of 10 and were sat in a more private room in the back. Food: The ramen here is a bit sub par, for this price point there are other places in the area where you'll get higher quality ramen. The appetizers weren't that great either, both the buns and takoyaki were a bit bland and only had flavor from the sauce. Service: The opening day was a disaster. There was chaos in the kitchen and apparently their system went down. The waiter did their best to chase down our food, but we went 2 hours waiting and still didn't receive everything we ordered. We opted to just cancel the rest of the order and pay for what we got. There was also a promotion for 30% off that wasn't applied unless you asked for it explicitly. Went on date night with my wife. For reminder, she has gluten allergy and dairy issues while I have Alpha Gal, tree nut allergy and am diabetic (yep, we're fun)..... Server, Cindy (a delight!), was conscientious with our issues even returning to the table after taking orders to confirm details about our food relates to the issues. She had hibachi steak and I had a fried shrimp roll. The steak was a bit chewy but seasoned well. My roll was good. Crispy and fresh. Only other downside (thus 4 not 5 stars) was they cannot make the ramen bowls gluten free - they suggest the rice noodles (which would be fine) then follow up with the fact the "base" has soy sauce (contains gluten) and asks if it's ok. Seems they could make with gluten free soy sauce...... Large clean space with open kitchen and all staff were helpful and very friendly. Good for almost any scenario I can think of. Kinya has a large open seating area, open kitchen concept, and a sizable menu that includes ramen, sushi, appetizers, and drinks. The server was very friendly and asked questions about allergies and whether I wanted to order dessert after our meal (small details I always appreciate). I enjoyed that the seating arrangement felt very open and bright. The white lighting did however make it very hard to take a nice picture of people, so if that's important to you I would just keep that in mind. Overall the flavor of the food was good. The server offered us complimentary kimchi. It was nice they provided something complimentary, though I did think it was peculiar that they served kimchi at a Japanese restaurant. The Kinya ramen broth was nice and not overly salty or rich. The amount of toppings was good compared to other ramen restaurants I've been to in RDU. They also had some gold flakes in the Kinya for elevated presentation. The okonomiyaki (seafood pancake) did not have much seafood in it. I think it was rather untraditional and the ratio of toppings to pancake was unbalanced. The pancake portion was small compared to the amount of Katsuobushi (bonito flakes). The flavor was still good though so if you enjoy the dish overall and aren't looking for a traditional version it's worth considering but it is expensive for what you get ($11). I would recommend the ramen + appetizer combo for $24 especially if the portion is large enough for sharing between two people in your party. The manager also came by to ask how we were doing which was nice. I saw that they offered free keychains to certain parties. All in all I would come back again if I was interested in getting ramen close by or want to bring a large party to a ramen restaurant since there is a lot of seating and space. read more

Talk about a "soft opening." The crowd tonight made it feel like a grand opening! Even then, I could tell that the kitchen was seriously backlogged. Orders were coming out but customers had walked out before they came, resulting in lots of returned food. That hinted at things to come. I could see that Kinya's ramen bowls are delicious but they are not worth waiting over an hour to receive. I'm glad I got to try their pan-fried dumplings. Those were still satisfying. I ordered a bowl of ramen but it didn't come out. I appreciate my server keeping tabs for me and her other customers, but this isn't the kind of "soft opening" experience that helps a new restaurant gain traction. Turnout overwhelmed the staff and I could tell. I left after 1h 45m with no ramen, a 45m wait to be seated, and a clear staff coordination struggle that created a dissatisfying overall experience. read more
