Went there today to eat about an hour before closing. Ordered one of their "Big" breakfasts (without the pancakes). Got a coffee and spent a total of $9.94 before tip. Food was tasty standard roadside cafe type. This isn't white linen table service. Great quick drive by eatery where you can be certain you'll get full without emptying your wallet. Friendly people, but if you're not from the area you'll take the tone of the server the wrong way. Go in thinking like you're with family where they'll be sassy & sarcastic with you... You know the place type - the ones that have signs that say things like, "Sarcasm, it's just one more service we offer!" or "Sorry, Yesterday was the deadline for all complaints." If you don't like that kind of kitschy environment, Kipp's definitely isn't your cup of tea.
I only heard of this place (though I live about 5 miles from it) because it was on the local news. My take on their actual news interview? (Because I actually watched the local news interview): Kipp (owner) is simply trying to make it known that he welcomes those with ALL opinions and refuses to throw any customer out because of what they wear, where they work, who they politically support, etc. It's a food place. You come to eat - and you can chat if you like too!
Of course this welcoming nature has caused every loony person around the nation to absolutely loose it that this guy dares to be inclusive of everyone, including Sarah Sanders. Well, I met the guy. While my wife swings on the definite democrat side of things, I'm more middle ground with a slight lean to the right (whatever that means). I tend to agree with just about anything that makes reasonable sense. Having met Kipp I'm really glad he's open to anyone eating there. He'll survive as a business regardless of this national non-sense because:
1. It's a local joint with limited hours and the locals who regularly eat there were the main supporting income of this establishment to begin with.
2. The national attention, while bringing with it some complete idiots, has also brought more not-so-regular-business, such as myself. I'd never heard of the place before the news and I thought it'd be cool to check it out for myself - you know, go to the source, instead of listening to stupid people with an ax to grind. I felt I needed to support this guy's open nature to accepting any customer and not pre-judging them. Something democrats claim to support. This guy isn't a nazi, a racist, homophobe or islamaphobe. He's a normal person with a local business in this community here, who happens to have opinions and votes just like any other person in the US. So you don't like that he probably voted for Trump? Well, I'm certain some of your family & friends did too and they're just not telling you! If there was a way to rig & "steal" an election, it would have been done long before 2016!! His choice in voting doesn't make him any of these nasty terms which are simply used to dismiss and demean someone.
This is a real review. I took a picture of myself in front of the sign this morning in case someone decided to report my review as fake. Yes, I did crop my face out of the photo, because I'm not dumb. There are enough crazies who are irate about absolutely nothing that I anticipate more than a few will attempt to harass me. Also, my city on my profile still reads "Palo Alto, CA" because it's where I live 1/2 time while on business. We relocated our primary home to this area near Kipps back in 2017. read more
