I absolutely recommend Dr. King and his staff. They are a great group of professionals who make a dental trip relaxed, even fun! They have easy scheduling, and flexible hours, I was able to get in before work at 7am. Barb, my hygenist, made sure I was comfo2and educated me on all sorts of cool facts about teeth and my teeth. Dr. King is efficient and honest, giving options for your oral health care, and starting off by saying it is ultimately your choice, so there is zero pressure. The front of office staff is also super friendly and efficient. I am so happy my husband referred me to them and I now have a dentist again after several years of not going due to moving. I was sure that I had a cavity that was inching towards a root canal. (Having had five root canals, I knew I wanted to avoid that pain. LOL) Dr. King and his staff got me in quickly, even though I was a new patient. Dr. King was very thorough and was quickly able to ascertain that the real problem was a gum problem that was showing some exposed bone, that was causing the pain. Don't be misled by the "Best of Renton" advertising; they solicit votes from their patients. Myself and my son were patients of his for several years. His dental hygienists were wonderful. HOWEVER, the bad far outweighed the good and we eventually left. He charges way more than other dentists and puts a time limit on guaranteeing his work. His profits are more important than patient care. For example, if you need a root canal he doesn't let the Endodontist put in the final filling. He makes you come back to his office to do it so he can make money off of it too. He also charges over a hundred dollars for nitrous, other dentists provide this for free. Dr. King talks calmly to you and explains what he is going to do. But he also lets you know he is the dentist and he knows more about your mouth than you do. I found him to not listen well and to argue with me about my own dental history. Twice he did crowns on me without first doing a root canal. Both times I ended up needing emergency root canals after the fact. I know my dental history but he insisted on arguing with me that he knew better. The first time this happened I found out that he didn't like the endodontist that I had used for years. He tried to force me to go to someone else. The second time this happened his office was closed for vacation and his on-call dentist wasn't answering. He wasn't there for me when I was in pain and needed help. I'm sad to say it's true what they say on here about his receptionist Karen. She is his gatekeeper and guard dog. If you send an email to the dentist she will most likely screen it and be the one to reply. She was so rude when I first tried to make an appointment I almost didn't go there. But that "Best of advertising" swayed me. I learned early that she rules the roost and to follow her protocols. Customer relations doesn't seem to be the most important part of the job. Being screened at the end and not getting to speak and hear from the dentist directly after all of the years we were with him was the last straw. Since leaving his care my new dentist has found flawed work. I wonder if it was Dr. King who did it or if not why he didn't find it. Please don't respond now Dr. King. You broke my trust. I don't want an apology or an excuse. If enough people speak up maybe you'll listen. This feedback is a gift to you. read more

Dr. King's office and staff are very courteous and professional. I first went to them because they were in network for my insurance and close to my home. I have been a patient for about 3-4 years. I have my usual cleanings with no problems. The hygienists do a good job and I always leave with my teeth feeling clean. I also had a night guard made and all costs covered By insurance and out of pocket costs were explained. I was fully informed of everything before procedures took place. Sorry to say about the disappointment.. But I went there a couple times and I noticed that the dental assistant didn't wash their hands!!! Both before and after doing my teeth. He only used Purell to clean his hands. I also work in the healthcare. This is freaking me out. I won't go back. Because I feel like washing hands is one of the most practice for healthcare professional. If they didn't wash their hands, what about others materials? read more

I waited to post this until I got at least 2 other professional opinions to verify my concerns. Dr. King had my husband doing deep cleaning on his teeth and gums every 3mos or so. Come to find out from our current dentist and one other, that no deep cleaning was necessary. In addition bc they did it so often it damaged his gums. This also means that we were being charged for an unnecessary procedure. If you want to hear more...the office mgr, Karen is rude and completely removed from what the patient goes through. The hygienist will nag you until you wish you had ear plugs. Overall, don't go unless you want to be emotionally exhausted, financially taken advantage of and want to risk the health of your mouth. read more

If there was a zero star I would give this dentist this rating. We were patients of Kirk King and like mentioned by other reviewers I felt he was more interested in money and profits than taking care of his customers. If you have a lot of money then this is the dentist for you. In my past I have never spent so much money at a dentist in the course of 1 year (me and my husband well over ~$1000). First off, his hygienists are great. However, after your mouth has been ravaged they kindly ask you "would you like fluoride varnish." Little do you know that by saying yes you smack on a $55 charge to your bill. As for me, the first thing that comes out of my mouth is, "is it covered by my insurance" and they promptly reply..in most cases, no. But for my husband or say your children or family members that use your same plan...they don't think to ask that question. I got smacked with that bill multiple times. Second, I did have a few cavities while visiting this Dr, and these costs to fill these are well over my previous dentist. In addition, there were so many I was thinking of getting a second opinion. Every time I went in, after my assessment all I could think about was all the $$ going into this place. My last visit I even brought it up to the Dr and the hygienist about how I was pouring money into this place. Then the very next day, I got a $400 bill from the practice. It turns out that they recommended to my husband that he go through a deep cleaning routine and he had come in 3-4 times for the whole process. Insurance only cover 2 cleaning per year and we got stuck with the bill for the remainder. Dr Kings office didn't even warn us that this would not be covered by our insurance. All other places kindly let you know what you are getting into and what to expect. We call right away (1 day after I expressed my initial concerns) and asked to have the bill removed. We talked to the receptionist, not the Dr. We got a notice in the mail shortly after stating they adjusted out balance to zero but also kicked us out as patients. So, if you ever have a complaint...be prepared to get the boot!! horrible practice, horrible. read more

It had been about two years since going to the dentist (and my move to King County.) I usually went every six months for the usual cleaning, checkup and x-rays as needed. The office was nice, as were the staff. Unfortunately, I was told that I had Gingivitis and I needed to come in four times for special teeth cleanings, each of which was several hundred dollars. I also needed to purchase special mouthwash. I did as I was told. The "special" cleanings seemed no different than usual, except they only cleaned one quarter of my mouth at a time. When I moved to downtown Seattle, it was time for a new dentist. Somehow my Gingivitis, that I never had before seeing Dr. King, had miraculously disappeared. I guess I only developed this as I walked in his door and was cured just after I stopped seeing him.....yeah, right. It certainly took a bite out of my wallet. read more

I had a horrific dental experience a awhile ago that left me with a lot of anxiety regarding dental work. Dr. King and staff were very understanding and accommodating. What really impressed me was that the patient is in total control. The staff works as a team along with the patient to come up with a plan. I felt they really took into account what is important to me. They go over ESTIMATED costs before beginning any work and I've never felt I was over charged or mislead. As with any medical or dental procedure, the unforeseen can occur and I felt these possibilities were well explained to me. Not sure why another reviewer stated that procedures lasting over an hour are referred out as my appointment will last five hours today. If any work is referred out such as to an oral surgeon, that is discussed in the plan. I would highly recommend Dr. King and staff. Lastly; be realistic people...dental work is expensive but you get what you pay for. read more

First off, let me just say it's been ten years since I've been to a dentist. When I made the appointment I gave Karen my insurance information and she laid out all the potential costs for me, assuring me that they had payment plan options and that they would go over any costs before planning a procedure. After my exam she gave me an itemized estimate of what my insurance would cover and what my out of pocket would be for each visit. All the initial testing was done by a wonderful girl named Bonnie I think? She's not listed on the website unfortunately, she was awesome! Dr. King was very nice and understanding, he listened to my concerns and didn't judge me for my long delay in having my teeth looked at. Tami was the dental hygienist. She was hilarious and very helpful. She sent me home with all sorts of goodies to help keep my teeth clean and showed me how to use each and every one. I never felt rushed and even though I spent two hours there it flew right on by. I have several appointments set up for the next few months and I'm actually looking forward to coming back! They threw around a lot of dental lingo that I didn't understand but they took the time to go over pamphlets and xrays with me so I left with a pretty good understanding of my oral health. I just had my appointment with Dr. King today after he referred me to an orthodontist to help me achieve my goal of a nicer looking smile. Dr. King and his team of assistants worked with me through the processes of Invisalign and for fine tuning my smile which included a short period of time in braces. After moving to Renton from North Bend, I still traveled back there to get my dental work done because I loved my dentist (Dr. Kelly Garwood). However, I decided it was time to find a local DDS. Dr. Garwood recommended Dr. King, so I gave it a shot. The receptionist/scheduler called me and got me in the next day for an initial exam and cleaning. I was greeted promptly when I arrived, and I dropped off the initial paperwork that I'd downloaded from their website - makes that part go much faster. I waited less than 5 minutes before being taken back to the chair, where a staff member went over my medical forms and took x-rays and pictures. Then I met with Dr. King and he performed a few screenings for oral cancer, etc. His exam was thorough and thoughtful and he answered all my questions. The hygienist was next, and she was fabulous. She used an ultrasonic scaler first, something my other hygienist didn't use, then followed up with the hand tools. She was able to remove a bit of glue that had apparently been on a crown since I'd gotten it (that was the first time I'd heard about it). Sure, that was a little painful with all the poking and scraping, but she gave me a local anesthetic which helped. This first visit was 2 hours - which they'd told me about before, so I wasn't shocked. But the visit was very thorough and I'm very happy with my experience there.
