My 88-year-old mouth had some challenging needs as I tried to keep my teeth. Dr. Scholes had to remove one that had eaten too much chicken - a remarkably quick and pain-free process. Today I came into Dr. Scoles Renton office as I had an old crown prior to having Dr. Scoles as my dentist that had fallen out from the tooth that needed attention. I have been a patient here since 2015. Dr. Scoles ended up squeezing me in to get a new crown milled and replaced the problem crown. Here is why I love this dentist and office staff: - Dr. Scoles is a "techie" dentist that always stays on top of new dentistry innovations. In fact, he used to teach other dentists how to do procedures or use new equipment. This is important to their patients because they know they can trust this office to employ the most recent and improved technology on their teeth and mouth. Many of Dr. Scoles patients don't likely even realize this, but I have come to realize this through my conversations with Dr. Scoles and my innate curiosity about dental tech. (e.g. the crown milling machine in the office, posterior crown material, etc..) - Dr. Scoles doesn't drill on or remove teeth "just because" [to make more money]. EVERY interaction I have had with Dr. Scoles in the 7 years I have been a patient, biases toward the well being of my teeth and *not* profit. This is becoming more unusual over time in the dentistry "industry". -The staff comes to know you and has that personal touch from hygienists to dental assistants. They are SUPER professional and very conscientious. - You don't feel like you are part of a cattle call here - the staff will come to know you and treat you like a patient and not a number at the DMV. I have been seeing Dr. Scoles for a few years now. His Saturday hours make it easier for me to get to the dentist and to focus on work during work hours. Since I started seeing him, Dr. Scoles has put a lot of effort into upgrading his office: adding high tech computerized tools and charts. The overall feeling at the office is comfortable, for those that are squeamish, and he has been accommodating in making sure I am not experiencing pain when I have had work done. Dr. Scoles cemented his standing as a 5-star dentist when I began to develop pain in my jaw muscles. Dr. Scoles has put in countless hours doing research on my situation, seeking input from experts around the country, and creating a plan for how to help me. We have exchanged emails over the weekends and over his holiday. Dr. Scoles refers to himself as a "dental geek" meaning that he really does enjoy his profession and is in it because he is fascinated with it and wants to help people, more than being in it for money. Really nice people, it's actually fun to go to the dentist. The staff has been there along time and its not a bunch of teens who just got out of dental assistant school because the dentist wants to save a couple bucks. They have the most comfortable chairs and they give you these cool sunglasses to wear, it's almost like you're at the beach? I'm a horrible patient, I show up with food in my teeth and smelling like smoke mumbling half english and they're still over the top nice to me. I have severe memory problems from a school yard head trauma incident from when I was a child and I've never missed an appointment. They can write your next appointment on a card, send you a cellular text or email... I need all 3... This place is probably the only good thing about Renton and the German restaurant down the street. read more

I was mostly impressed upon initial visit to Dr. Scoles. He seems nice and competent. But I am very disappointed with other aspects of their service. Last time I was there, I was quoted how much a certain procedure would cost me after insurance (around $600) which I accepted, assuming they checked with my insurance when they gave me that quote. Sorry, I don't have an exact history of each tooth in my head or back pocket, and you shouldn't assume I do. That's part of being a professional service, they check that stuff out for you and give you accurate information. I've had dentists before that were very capable of doing so. Unfortunately, when I received my bill, it was over $1300! I called and expressed my confusion, and the receptionist said my insurance only covered one tooth because the other had been worked on 5 years ago. Ummm, isn't that something you're supposed to look into before you give me a quote? Other dentists have in the past. The receptionist seemed a bit flippant and defensive, like that wasn't a huge difference and it was my fault. One, I'm not the professional here. Two, most people would find doubling an already $600 bill pretty significant. It just blew my mind and left me feeling very disappointed. Trust is so important, and a professional service needs to be professional all around. They could have apologized, offered to cover half the difference. I'm not one to want to get in a big argument over the phone and I shouldn't have to. So, no matter how much I like this dentist, I will not be going back. read more

They answer questions in a detailed manner, are completely gentle in their cleanings and stand by the notion that modern dentistry does not have to be uncomfortable. Their prices are shockingly low for the level of service and professionalism exhibited. They even contact your insurance ahead of time to find out what they will cover and how much it will cost you. So the dentist is not my favorite place to go but Dr. Scoles and his staff make it pretty enjoyable. The front desk ladies are friendly and do a great job. The hygentists are friendly, gentle, patient, and do their best to make sure you are comfortable. Dr. Scoles takes the time to explain things and is just a really nice guy. If you need a crown this is the place to go! You get your crown within 2 hours and they look better than your real teeth! My kids have gone there since they were 2 years old (12 and 8 now) and they love it! Overall this is a great practice for any age or any level of care you need. Highly recommended! read more

Dr Sanaa Beguwala is a collegue in Dr Scoles' office. She recently replaced an old chipped filling, that could possibily turn into a crown down the line. She gave me all the possible scenarios, the costs, & what would be covered by my insurance. They make you as comfortable as possible by offering a warm neck cushion, a blanket if it's needed, & a tv embedded in the ceiling. The procedure was comfortable, & painless as possible. They offer a warm towel & water to rinse out your mouth at the end. All these small touches make it a pleasant experience. Dr Beguwala is so easy to work with...friendly, funny, & always checking if you're comfortable during the procedure. The hygienists are all great, & I've had 3 different ones for cleaning. The front desk staff are equally wonderful. They are well versed in the insurance process, & are extremely helpful to ensure as much is covered by insurance as possible. Dr Scoles & Dr Beguwala continued on after Dr Mayer retired so I've been going here for over 30 years. They were initially recommended by a co-worker. I've referred most of my family & friends. They are highly skilled, & if you need a crown, typically it is done the same day...what a time saver! Great team! read more

Dr. Scoles and all of the staff are the BEST!!!!! My husband , 6 yr old daughter and I all go. My daughter thinks going to the dentist is a fun outing and enjoys getting the appt reminder postcard in the mail. It's like she's been invited to a friends birthday party or something. My husband has never been a good patient. He is the type that gets squeamish at the sight of needles and any sort of medical equipment. The staff have been great with him and he has nothing but good things to say about everyone. I love the spa like feel and chatting with the girls. Everyone has a smile and is always happy to see us. RUN! RUN! RUN!! I had been going to that office when Dr. Reich was the dentist. I had been going there for 40+ years. Once Dr. Reich retired it all became about money and time. Scoles is a horrible dentist. He only cares about money and getting you out the door. I don't know how many times he would say "time me". I had several crowns that cracked or broke because of his negligence. My crowns should have never been made at the office due to other reasons. The prices are outrageous! They would never let you out of their office without paying. I was told I would not be charged for a replacement crown. Next thing I know I was given court documents to pay. The staff are great but Scoles is a money hungry beast! Stay clear! read more
