Despite the fact that many people live with dogs in Atlanta, good dog facilities are hard to come by. Unlike other services, I don't enjoy "testing out" a new place because some of these facilities are incredibly unreliable and in some cases can do harm to your furry children. I rely heavily on the recommendations of others and I try not to add hyperbole and base my reviews on true experiences. It took us awhile to find Kirkwood Bark and Lounge Doggy Daycare. We were looking for a place that loved dogs as much as we did, had ample play time during the day in a large open space and then a clean sleeping area for the evening. That combination of requirements is surprisingly hard to come by. Kirkwood offers all of these although their space could use some upgrades. We have 2 big dogs and I will say that Kirkwood has always tried to accommodate our schedule even during busy boarding times. They have several sizes of rooms for the dogs in the evening and we go for the bigger size when available. During the day, they play with the other dogs who board or who come for daycare in the morning and they have a video cam (an archaic one unfortunately) where you can check in on them (although it's often far away and you can't see them). A good sign for us, though, is that our dogs run in without ever saying goodbye when we drop them off! Like many other boarding places, they require vaccinations to be up to date. When you first board with them, you have to do a meet and greet to ensure they understand the temperament of your dog and you get to inspect their facility. The people here are great, kind and professional. Often times you may not be able to speak with someone when you call. No worries, just leave a message and you'll be sure to get a call back quickly. During the pandemic, many businesses have been affected and Kirkwood has been incredibly flexible trying to keep their business running while trying to provide a service to their customers. In my opinion, Kirkwood provides the best boarding I could find in the area. read more

I just wanted to say how thankful I am for this place. I got my baby from the pound about a year and a half ago. He's older, and had been chained up in a yard his whole life, starved, probably fought (covered in scars). He was a police confiscation for cruelty. I used to always have to carry him in, but now he just tries to run to the back and forgets about me! I am so grateful for the staff being kind and patient and helping him have somewhere to go that I feel safe about when I'm at work. When I pick him up, I can just tell he's had a great day. I have so many good things to say I don't know where to start. We had a last minute emergency and had to board our dog quickly. They were able to get her in for a temperament evaluation quickly and were very accommodating as I figured out the dates as my family crisis rapidly developed. Because of the pandemic the place we had boarded our dog previously was not open. Conveniently enough Kirkwood Bark & Lounge is closer, but I was worried about how small it is. I was very wrong. First, the service for the human was incredible. Not only is this business operating safely during a pandemic, but they sent me updates letting me know that she was doing well and adjusting nicely. They did a wonderful job handling me as well as my dearest love. They have cameras so you can check in on your dog to watch as well. There are always humans in the room with the dogs. Some days she was more interested in the humans, other days more interested in other dogs. The point is, she had the option. I haven't found that to be the case everywhere. She is a 115 ib Alaskan Malamute/German shepherd mix so she needs plenty of space. We booked her the 8x8 private luxury suite to sleep in at night. As you can see she's very comfortable and at home. My dog returned home happy, healthy, and calm. Normally when I've picked her up from elsewhere she has been frantic, clingy, and she usually puts on some weight. Not this time. It's like I never left. They offer a report card and tell you about her relationships with her new puppy friends. She also came back nice and clean after her exit bath. I couldn't be happier. It's such a relief when you pull up the cam and see your dog wagging her tail so hard her entire body is moving. Pick up and drop off are so easy here and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is plenty of supervision for the dogs and you can check in on the camera at any time. I've only used the daycare but won't hesitate to board our dog here if needed. read more

I wish I could give this place five stars, but my gut says I just can't--solely because they have a no-pit policy for their doggy day care. Boo! That said, we brought our pit-mix pup for a few days of boarding, and we were very pleased. He was walked multiple times a day, and he even got some one-on-one playtime with one of the staffers (she found out about our dog's obsession with tennis balls, haha). Which led us to Bark & Lounge, and we/Banjo liked it so much that we paid for the 10-day package up front. Joann always gives us details of Banjo's doggy socializing & networking (she's made friends with someone named Bella); they have a webcam if you're into doggy voyeurism; and Banjo comes home well-exercised and exhausted!! In Doggy Daycare, she gets to be her dogself, and it has helped her to be a well-rounded, well-behaved, happy puppy. I highly recommend it to anyone who works a ton or doesn't have time for daily, high-energy walk/runs. You will see a difference in your pup! read more

Love love love Kirkwood. They are fantastic. Our dogs run themselves to the door, and jump up to try and kiss the staff. They come back from daycare and boarding exhausted. If we want, we can have them groomed and bathed while they're being boarded and we're out of town. We can even buy their food and snacks there at Kirkwood Feed and Seed. The staff always greet our dogs and they always remember who we are and who we're picking up. I would never think of looking for another place in Atlanta! read more

Cant say enough about this place. Great service! Our dogs love....love coming here. As soon as we pull up front they're ready to jump out of the car and go play with their friends. Not to mention, they're priced right and the service is stellar. Always friendly, and they do raffles on Friday. Winner takes home treats, food, toys, etc. Just a tip- make sure you call ahead to find out if they have room for your pup. Sat/Sun seem slow, so if you're headed out, you should be okay just dropping your pup off. BUT- if it's M-F, make sure to call the day before or the morning before. Joann might get flustered if you don't, but she always goes out of her way to accommodate. Also- going on a trip? Kirkwood bark & lounge is great for boarding. Plenty of space for your pup to play. You can even get your dog bathed before he comes home. Totally recommend this place! read more

I can only speak for day care, not boarding (yet), but what I've seen of this place is fantastic. One of my dogs is leash reactive & they were very understanding of that. We used to board at another very large, big name boarding facility intown, but the service was not personable and our dogs were... well, just other dogs. But with both of them here at Bark and Lounge, I know both my dogs are in good hands with Aimee and Joann. They love the doggy day care and are exhausted from playing all day when I pick them up, and they aren't anxious when we drop them off to board. We just moved to Atlanta and needed to find a place to board our pup for a long weekend. When we took her over there for the temperament assessment (which we didn't think she would pass, mind you), Patti was super nice and sat with us while we waited for our dog to blow it. Fortunately, she was super understanding and they actually know how to control dogs so our dog's little snippy moments were well contained. We were really excited! Our dog never really meshed well with daycare before so it's exciting for us to know that there is somewhere she can go where we don't have to worry about her. As far as the boarding goes, it was so cheap. And clean. And worth it. They really cared about her, how she was feeling, her comfort level. She came out a happy dog. My dog Dakota misses this place almost as much as her papa and I do! I rescued a sweet lab mix from Atlanta Pet Rescue in the fall of 2012. I was a little concerned about taking her to daycare at first, as she was a little leash-aggressive towards some of the other neighborhood dogs, but the folks at Bark and Lounge encouraged us to bring her in and give it a try. It worked. Oh boy, did it work. Every time my boyfriend would take her to daycare on his way to work, she would wag so hard in the back seat that she could hardly contain herself. She knew the route from our apt in 04W to daycare, and she knew it meant fun! The best part? You can watch the care takers and dogs while your precious one is there over their CCTV network--even on your phone! It's incredibly clear that everyone just loves dogs there. Dakota loved the pack, and even had a best friend/boyfriend there. Hah. When she wasn't hanging out with Harry Potter (her main squeeze, a bull dog), she was brown nosing the humans for snuggles. If you need to do daycare or boarding, I seriously, highly suggest this place. We miss them so, so much after moving to DC recently. That says everything. read more

We've taken our dog to daycare here a couple of times and just boarded him there for the first time, and I could not be more pleased. Our dog likes to hang with dogs, but really seeks out human interaction, so I was so happy to pick him up today and have the staff member there talk to me about how much she enjoyed snuggling and playing with him. She had clearly gotten to know him really well during his stay, as she had given him a nickname, knew plenty of his little quirks, and was able to update me on his eating habits from memory. They really seem to care about each and every one of the dogs staying with them. And as an added perk they texted me a photo of him on Christmas (in addition to being able to check in on him via webcam). read more

I have used them both for daycare and boarding for about 9 years now and their service is consistent, friendly and dependable. When we are out of town, we know that our big dogs will have a day of daycare and a night of restful sleep. They have a tendency to not eat well while away from home and the staff at Bark will hand feed them if necessary. They have cameras too so we can watch them play! The location is very convenient and you can stop at the feed and seed store to get your dog food on the way to pick up them up. read more

My husband and I live in the Oakhurt area and we've been taking our new foster dog to Kirkwood Bark and Lounge for a few weeks. She loves it there and has gained so much confidence and socialization from her time playing with the other dogs. The space is clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. Plus they have groomers so you can add a bath or full grooming package to your dogs day. Also if you want your pup to get a one-on-one walk during the day you can add that as well. I love these guys! My dog, Shasta, is always made to feel welcome and gets great reports. Unlike other places where I have left Shasta, she has never come home sick with kennel cough or a bad case of the runs. She seems to get along great with all the staff and is excited to go whenever I drop her off. Unfortunately, Shasta is a bit of a spaz and aggressive when it comes to other dogs so she can't really do the day care with the rest of the pups. We started to bring our dogs to Kirkwood Bark & Lounge as soon as we moved into the neighborhood, and we couldn't be happier. Herschel and Mallory get so excited when we pull up to the door, and they come home exhausted. We also feel confident that we can leave them for boarding, and they'll be well taken care of and, most importantly, not freaked out by being away from home. The staff is really friendly and patient, especially with our Mallory, who gets a little too excited sometimes. There is not enough room for me to say how I feel about the care my dog receives here! We have been using KBL off and on for almost 8 years. The only reason we took a break was because we moved out of state for 2 years. Our Charlie loves the humans here and we don't worry when he is there for either daycare or boarding. Last fall while we were out of town, Charlie became sick while being boarded. They let us know immediately, kept us updated and took him to the vet! KBL is like family to us. So I was doing research for different day cares being that this would be my first time putting my baby in one. They were so nice and kind, allowing my dog to become acclimated in the temperament test. The guy who works on the weekend (I forget his name) was very nice and kind, as well as the owner and raven. I like the fact that they were dog experts, so they knew my dog's attitude and how well he would do. They answered all of my questions, and treated me and my dog with kindness. My dog Indy has been going to Kirkwood Bark and Lounge since he was a puppy (more than 3 years now) and we both love it! When I drop him off his whole back end wags with excitement and he gets tons of love from the wonderful staff. Indy definitely prefers humans to dogs and gets exceptional attention and care and still comes home exhausted.
