I went here with my team of 7 last night for our holiday meal. We made reservations ahead of time, so it was really nice to walk in and have our reserved table waiting for us. This was my first time here and I thought the restaurant was cozy but warm and inviting. I would say plan ahead for parking. Open spaces were limited in the area. My team member connected with the chef ahead of time to come up with a wonderful menu that consisted of an appetizer, entree and dessert that was executed perfectly. Everything was fresh, beautifully seasoned and our server did a great job of making sure to take empty plates and bring the next course but a couple of our drinks were empty. To start the meal we had two beautiful Arepas that were delicate and creamy and topped with a corn salsa over a red chili sauce. They were tender and a great start to the meal. The entree course was a beautifully roasted chicken thigh over a potato and squash gratin that was topped was a red and green chili sauce. Though this plate looked rich, it was very fresh tasting with seasoning on point. To end the meal we were served a tres leche cake that was a nice ending to a great meal. The sauce was sweet without being cloying and was just enough to top off the meal. This was such a nice dinner and the food was on point! Female server with black hair handed us menus and we smiled and said Thank you and I think we'll move to the window booth. She muttered at us and walked away. Talk about blow all expectations out the window. Honestly, I didn't do enough research. I assumed I was going to get tacos. It was a little hole in the wall place. It's a trick. Inside there is an interdimensional wizard working in what he would like you to believe is a kitchen, but more likely a portal to Nirvana. I had the duck I highly recommend the duck. The hype is real! The food was amazing! Very delicious and flavorful! We started with the Stuffed Anaheim Peppers. We were warned they were spicy, but we didn't find them too spicy. We did find them perfect. All the flavors worked really well together. For entrees, we tried their Braised Short Ribs and Prawn Paella. I also tried their Spicy House Made Margarita. The Braised Short Ribs were absolutely delicious. My friend was only going to eat half, but they were so good, she ate the whole dish. She said that the potato croquettes it came with were the best she has ever had. The Prawn Paella was also very tasty! It was filled with plenty of protein. The saffron rice was perfect and the saffron aioli was an added bonus. The Spicy Margarita was a tad spicy, but not too spicy. It's made with Serrano Pepper infused tequila and has a Tajin rim. It's a small place, so definitely make a reservation. Today, we didn't need one, but yesterday they were packed. So just plan ahead. read more

Service: our server was prompt and friendly enough. Not overly so, but we got what we needed in a timely manner. Atmosphere: it's got a bit of a dive bar feel to it. Nothing fancy, seat yourself kind of vibe. Definitely not fancy, but still nice. You can make reservations, but they were pretty slow at 6pm on a Tuesday so we probably didn't need to. From what I hear they have an amazing outdoor space, but we didn't get the chance to see it. Food: I wanted an old fashioned but they were out of cherries. I ended up going with the spicy margarita. It was really good. Despite how it looked at first it wasn't too sweet at all and it had the perfect kick for me. Tacos Whettos - yum. I started with the tacos and they are delicious. I actually make barbacoa beef at home and it tastes just like this! So good! I am going to have to step my game up though - the sauce they put of these and the crispy shell. Yum. So good! El Cubano: wasn't for me. It was my first time trying a cubano and I have to say, if this is a good one - I'm not trying another. The bread was falling apart, the texture was odd, and it was SO GREASY, which is one reason the bread was falling apart. The fries it came with also weren't great. They tasted almost like the insides were dust or hallow. Everyone else I was with got the short ribs and they all loved it. It was a good experience and I'm glad I tried them. This meal was amazingly inventive and over the top delicious. The salad- asparagus, beet, onion,arugula and citrus fruit with labneh and dressing was an 11 out of 10! The pork cheeks with pasta and veggies melted in my mouth and the cilantro dressing was scrumptious. The Paella- crispy rice with saffron infused and small bites of chorizo, topped with shrimp and a lower layer of fish reminded us of eating this dish in Spain. Kudos to Dan and Monica for a meal extraordinare! And a huge thank you for the complimentary watermelon burrata with arugula and chirimoya sauce because the restaurant was so crowded on a Thursday evening and we had to wait for a bit for a seat. read more

Wow - what a treat Kismet is! Their menu is full of great traditional Mexican fare, as well as some unexpected dishes. We went to town, ordering Arepa cakes, ceviche (appetizers), braised Short Ribs, Duck Confit Carnita (entrees), and Tres Leches cake. The Arepa cakes and Short Ribs were outstanding, but the Duck was phenomenal! With a caramel Mole and a spicy black bean spicy ragu that went with it. Frankky, it's kind of indescribable - something you have to try. I can't say enough about Kismet, a homey but elevated take on all types of foid. Finish it with a Tres Leches cake like we did, cooked to perfection. Other items on the menu i can't wait to try: a cubano, paella, and a chicken enchilada with crispy, chicken thighs. This chef truly knows what he's doing, and i can't recommend them highly enough. i'm going to visit as often as I can until everyone else finds out about this place! read more

We had lunch there today. The food was great! We split Elote ( Think corn on the cob, split down the center into quarters) and the Pork Cheek Pasta. Both dishes were delicious. The Elote is the perfect way to eat corn on the cob. Use the blended sauce on the plate, lime, cilantro, salt, Mexican cheese and enjoy the fresh corn. If you like corn on the cob, here you go! We loved it. For the main course we split the Pork Cheek Pasta. Tender, flavorful pork, pork belly, fresh peas and corn, ravioli type pasta with Mexican cheese, all in a creative pesto (?) sauce. Another delicious mix of flavors that we will order again. They had a great beer selection, including local top craft brews. This is a Spokane gem, not to forget a downtown Hillyard destination. Every time we visit the drinks are high quality, and the service and food is the exact same. Staff is welcoming and kind, and are always quick and attentive to our table. I highly recommend starting with the ceviche and the stuffed peppers, but i am sure there isn't a bad choice on this menu. First time trying this place and what an adventure. WOW! Everything we had was unique and full of flavor. We started with the ceviche....yum! Unlike traditional ceviche it was Albacore Tuna and Shrimp coated in a red sauce with pickled veggies and a refreshing green sauce swirl. The octopus was grilled and tender and paired well with fennel, orange and micro greens. The saffron really stands out in this dish giving it a very uniqueness. Mary ordered a chardonnay and I had one of the house specialty drinks, a Tito's Lime-ade, very tasty. Mary ordered the Burger; brisket blend, caramelized onion, lettuce, smoked aioli, queso, soft lightly toasted bun, this was a delicious sandwich, the fries were standard. I had the pork Verde sandwich, pulled pork, pepper jack, queso, manchego cheese; there were pickled vegetables on the side, which were ok. Overall, our meals were pretty good. Please read for further detail. As this is a new restaurant, I do think they will be able to tweak recipes and cater to patrons better with constructive criticism. I write reviews to help the restaurant but more to give people an honest opinion on my experience - especially since this place was pricey... and had small portions. Do you really get what you pay for? The atmosphere: Nestled on a side street in Hillyard, there isn't much parking and it's easy to miss. It's on the smaller side... 4 booths against the side wall, a couple tables in the middle and a few bar tables against the adjacent. There is also a small bar. I was curious what was here before it was a restaurant? The lighting was somewhat poor which I will touch on momentarily as of course it affects presentation, as well as ambiance. For whatever reason, lots of new restaurants have those "industrial type" ceilings. Even though the ceilings weren't too high, they had that echoey-effect. It felt loud even though there wasn't a lot of people for a Friday evening. I will say the place was comfortable and relaxed overall, despite a few quirks. Service: Service was a little slow. It wasn't a busy evening at all, but it took awhile to get our food. Drinks and our appetizer came quick but our entrees took close to an hour to come out. Our waitress was very kind and accommodating. She even offered recommendations, which I appreciated. Food: We ordered the ceviche, braised short ribs, and the Cuban sandwich. The ceviche was pricey but fairly tasty. It's unfortunate the amount of tostada or "chips" they give you. It's not enough to eat all of the ceviche. I opted to take half of it home and not order more chips. My boyfriend enjoyed his Cuban sandwich! I had a bite and it was good. Comes with fries and ketchup. I ordered the braised short ribs. I can comment more on this meal since it was my own. The meat was tender and juicy but it was overpowered by the ancho sauce which was smokey and *overly* salty. It was good but a tad disappointing. I was expecting more flavor and complexity. Drink prices weren't bad. Overall, it was a nice experience but it was pricey and portions were small. The food was artsy and they were all about presentation when they should be focusing more on taste. I would try this restaurant again but not in the near future. read more

This is a 100% hidden gem. The chef here really knows what he's doing and all the food I've tried has been FANTASTIC! The burger is made with Browning Beef, a local ranch located in Spangle. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever tried. The short ribs were phenomenal and the octopus is so tender and has Amazing taste. Definitely don't let this place slip by, go in and try it! Five of us went to kismet last Friday to celebrate a birthday. I'm not one to take pictures of my food, so there's that. We had the Hungarian peppers and Queso for starters. Both were terrific and the presentation was top notch. For dinner, my wife had the special which was a Carne asada steak with house guac and I had the Bocolo which is a fish-based dish with pickled veggies. They were out of cod, they substituted steelhead. Both were absolutely incredible. We didn't have any cocktail's because we brought our own wine and paid the corking fee, which is pretty reasonable by the way. The service was solid. Dan and Monica are the owners. Dan is the chef and Monica works the front of the house. If you want to support a great local business, I can't say enough great things about this place.
