While I hesitate to let the secret out... it's too great a secret not too share. Dan & Monica have done something truly special. While in an unassuming space, their food is scratch made, from the heart, and so delicious it will only leave you wanting more. The beef barbacoa appetizer tacos are flavorful and juicy with lightness and heat from the pico and house made fermented hot sauce. My duck confit tacos tacos were nothing short of a masterclass in flavor: tender, smoky, juicy duck, braised cabbage, and a stellar avocado mojo verde that gave everything a bright kick. The simplistic misnomer of 'burger' my husband ate is a brisket patty, cooked perfectly on a homemade bun that can only be described as the child of a croissant and brioche, and the pile of smoked aoili somehow gave everything a lightness that makes this like no burger you have ever had. Topped off with a blackberry margarita (purple drinks currently supporting domestic violence) and brownie that is (not exaggerating) melt-in-your-mouth and my new favorite....cardamom and coriander gelato. It's more fall than anything pumpkin I've ever tasted. Do yourselves a favor and go try this amazing fare from a great team. read more

For months my boyfriend and I have been talking about hitting this place up merely for the namesake. Last night we were finally able to make it happen. He was excited after reading some restaurant week reviews and we both had high hopes. Unfortunately, all of those hopes were dashed nearly immediately. The space is... ok. The very DIY, not very professional mural greeted us with humorous charm. The wait staff, also awkward which was charming in its own right. We started with drinks, great googly moogly were they darn sweet, too sweet. We moved on to apps. The mushrooms and the tacos... both greasy and over salted. For entrees we went with fish and tamales. The fish, baked perfectly but the rice and accoutrement, lackluster. Tamales? Downright abysmal. They were fried and over a bed of beans. So much disappointment. Going out is frequently a calorie splurge for me and last night all of them were wasted. So why the 3 stars? Because honestly, in Spokane, 3 is mostly as good as it gets. For what you're getting, it truthfully is overpriced. Had we spent 1/2 to a 1/3 that we did, I'd probably give it a higher rating but for this price? I expected better. read more

Decided to search Spokane for some new flavors and found Kismet! When you pull up it looks like a lil hole in the wall. Went inside and could immediately smell the most amazing aromas and new I would not be disappointed. Started off with the special 2x baked potato with goat cheese drizzled in chorizo sauce... so yummy. Next we decided to order the Ceviche Albacore tuna, tequila guajillo cure, mojo verde, marinated pineapple, pickled shallots, chiles, fried tostada. This was the best we had ever tasted. We then decided why stop now and ordered the Grilled Queso, Grilled Chihuahua cheese, pico de gallo, fermented sauce, corn tostada and were absolutely heavenly! The flavors this chef makes are among the best. We then ordered 3 different mains... and were equally impressed. Everything we ate was a new twist on Mexican favorites! There's a reason this place was recently named 2022 Best new restaurant... it's because it is!! This chef is among the best... even Gordon Ramsey would not have anything bad to say... in fact he may take note. read more

I kept hearing this place was so great so I finally decided I needed to try it for myself. But now I'm starting to think the rave reviews must be paid reviews or just stacked votes by friends and family of the owners. (It is simply NOT great. Not by a long shot) Firstly, there is almost no parking, just on the street, and it's in a pretty bad neighborhood so u don't want to park far away and get broken into. But we managed to grab a spot when someone left, so that wasn't the worst part, just an annoyance. When we walked in, it was one little room with several tables and a cpl boothes squeezed into a way too small space, and it is SO noisy it's more like a dive bar atmosphere, not a nice expensive restaurant. You know the type of restaurant where u have to yell to be heard by your dining companions while u eat dinner? That's this place. And immediately when we walked in, the older blonde lady who seemed to be running the front was INCREDIBLY rude to us. She snapped "Do u have a reservation?!!" And we said, sorry no, we dont...and she said "well I think we're going to be full for at least the next half hour!" like she was dismissing us, and I noticed that right behind her in a booth was a woman whose table was cleared and she was signing the check, and I said..umm, that lady looks like she will be leaving soon i think, and the older blonde lady with the short shorts rolled her eyed and LAUGHED at me, and said "well I'm not going to ASK her! But SURE, you're welcome to wait around if u want!" (I COULDN'T EVEN BELIEVE HOW RUDE SHE WAS TO CUSTOMERS! But I'm finding it isn't apparently a rare thing, because it is mentioned in a lot of the honest reviews I'm finding online now) Why we didn't leave right then tho is something I wonder about now.. lol. ‍ But I guess we still really wanted to see what all the fuss was about! I was committed to the experience . So we decided, ok if we can sit soon, we will call this a one and done thing, we won't come back because of the terrible atmosphere and horrendous service, but at least we will see why ppl are saying this place is great and probably have some great food for tonight at least! So right away the lady in the booth left and we sat right away b4 it was wiped down, (the dishes were all gone tho, it was just a cpl cups of water and the check left there.) And we didn't want to miss out on the booth. Lol.) (I did notice that the check for the couple who left was 146 dollars tho!! which should also have been a sign, because that's WAYYYYYY too expensive for a 2 person dinner. Lol. (Especially in that type of atmosphere!). But again, I digress. It was just another sign missed. The short shorts lady came by soon and rolled her eyes at us and snapped "OK, well we'll clean the table when we CAN!" At this point we were already invested and had told the younger dark haired server our drink order so..we just looked at each other like "geez what is her PROBLEM?" LOL. It felt a little like we were being Punkd then. It was almost funny how over the top rude she was..and we were trying to stay positive about it, .so we kinda just laughed it off, like "SOME people, geez!" We still thought the food was going to be good at that point tho! lol. ‍So we ordered 2 appetizers, the Arepo cakes with pork and the grilled queso, ($16 for 3 tiny mushy corn cakes, and $13 for a round grilled cheese piece that was probably the best part of the meal, albeit way too small for the price. Neither of us even wanted to finish the mushy corn cakes, they were just kinda icky) But we still had hope for the El Cubano sandwich with fries that we also ordered!...(eternally optimistic i guess) and let me tell u, I've had cubanos before, good ones, and this was NOT a good one. ‍It was a very small sandwich with SO MUCH grease it was dripping, and had a very burnt flavor that was hard to eat and kinda yucky tasting too, like licking the bottom of a charred pan. I felt mildly sick for the rest of the night from this meal, probably mostly from all the grease in the food. We both asked each other if we wanted the rest of the other's food, haha, and then we each said NOPE, i was going to ask u that! Lol. In the end, the fries weren't bad, and the grilled queso was too small but also not bad, the rest was basically just WAY over-pricey and way under-yummy But I'm so confused why people like this place now! I really think they're paid reviews or their friends making the reviews, and also people wanting to be trendy, and maybe also a little bit that the people in this area really don't know what good Mexican/Latin food IS? (As seen by the terrible local Mexican food options. Lol.) Whatever it is tho, when we left, I apologized to my dining companion for suggesting this place. Would not recommend, and will not return. My husband and I went to try out this new restaurant today for lunch. The restaurant is cute and unique with its painted mural inside and the atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We ordered three items off the menu and shared so we could try each thing. First came out the Grilled queso - so delish and the presentation was beautiful. Then we ordered the Tacos Whettos which is barbacoa beef tacos and we ordered the Pork Verde sandwich. All were so good and presented well! The staff is so kind and all our food came out quickly. Once we finished one dish we got our next. Very nice lunch and we will definitely be back! read more

We have dined in twice and ordered to go once since Kismet opened, I am sooooo proud of this place. The owners are the coolest souls, with the most respectable hustle and the food is absolutely incredible. Side note: The day before we went to one of their opening days, I went to a full moon party and my tarot cards read "bull, ram, cow," in a nutshell. #ariesbaby Anyway so many cool things to go with that. However, Kismet means..."destiny; fate." We walk into this spot and there is a HUGE horned animal painted on the wall. I am telling you, I fell in love immediately. LOOK AT THE LOGO! The drinks and the staff are inviting, friendly and attentive. We went for lunch first and tried everything. From the salads to the pozole, the flair and flavor of everything is incredible. I consider myself a foodie by hobby. My husband is so picky but this is our SPOT! I am telling you the food is freaking amazing. The specials are, special. AND THEN THERE WAS BRUNCH. The benedict was insane. The sauce and the hollandaise were perfect. Then the avocado toast. The avocado toast here is my favorite in this town and I am telling you I have made it a goal to try it wherever it is sold. THIS TOAST IS WHATS UP. The avocado chimichurri, the perfection of the toast, the garnish. Whatever we are eating here, my husband went and picked it up for me the NEXT DAY. It is basically my "if you wanna make me happy get me this toast," type of love. All of the food is so good and I cannot wait to see them grow. Best part: Kismet is moments from my house. The food was good and obviously very well and thoughtfully done, my only disappointment was with the staff and policies. Our server was very rude to us. It was our first time in, and we had some questions about the menu. She was super rude about the fact that I had a nut allergy and couldn't have the Molé sauce on one of the dishes. when I asked if I could do it without she said "just don't order it then". My fiancé ordered a sandwich but hates pickles and got a really dirty look when asking to have them on the side. This restaurant does NOT allow you to request any alterations or changes to any of the dishes. We saw this stated at the bottom of the menu after we ordered. I get it, you know, the chef wants the dishes a certain way I supposed, but it all came across a little pretentious especially when they werent even nice about it. Also there was no salt or pepper on the table with really would have elevated the paella for me; I enjoyed it, just thought it could have used alot more flavor, or a little salt to bring them out more. This place is great! I've been here for dinner and brunch and I highly recommend both! The dinner tasted as good as it looked. Everything was plated so beautifully. I had the braised pork with arepas that had the most amazing house made salsa with melt-in-your-mouth pieces of pork. I also had the empanada with black beans and smoked cheese, even though it is one empanada it is very filling. The brunch was great as well and it is so nice to have brunch available on Friday, a Spokane rarity. I had the Verde hash with the most perfectly poached egg and pickled veg. Delicious pomegranate mimosa as well. read more

I brought my folks from out of town here for dinner and it was their favorite meal of the whole trip! I don't even know where to start, it was all so amazing! The service was spot on, she was friendly and always available to us. The food had so much flavor! We all cleaned our plates. And desert, I have never enjoyed fig as much as I did tonight! The Chef/Owner of this business is incredibly rude and mean to customers. We literally only called and asked about seating availability, and he snapped at my wife, telling her she should have called earlier if we wanted a reservation, making her feel small and worthless, and left her in tears after the call. I will never be giving them business. That was the worst customer service I have ever heard over the phone, I cannot imagine how they treat the customers in person. read more

Ahi tostadas, the most amazing ravioli...scallops that were real scallops and cooked perfectly with a delicious crisp and spicy corn salsa Monica is the most welcoming hostess/server/partner to chef Dan. We came at 11:30am on the weekend and they were still serving brunch. I ordered the chilaquiles and my spouse ordered the hash. Both looked kind of small when they came out in a large bowl. But they were both plenty and so good. Mine was flavorful but not spicy. They had these slightly sweet pickled veggies on top that were perfection. I also had the Spanish coffee, which was super tasty. My only suggestion would be to have hot sauce on the table or available. Our server was nice and attentive, and the place was buzzing. We will be back for dinner and I'm excited to try the margarita! read more

My wife was excited to share this amazing food experience with me when I came home from an out of town trip. The food is amazing but service not. The waitress did not smile at us once and appeared annoyed with us from the start. She embarrassed my wife to tears when she asked for another cocktail and she proceeded to tell her loudly so everyone could hear that she was not going to serve her more than 3 in 45 minutes. By the way, the brandy old fashions were obviously 1/2 pours. We understand the policy but to embarrass in front of others was not acceptable. We were not even close to being inebriated. read more

Decided to give Kismet a try during restaurant week 2023. The food was 4 stars, I had the winter elote which was tasty and had a all the right flavors. My only negative was that it was heavy on the salt. The short rib which was FABULOUS - highly recommend. The menu said it came with potato croquette but it tasted more like a heavenly, very smooth polenta. Loved it! Chose the Mexican chocolate brownie as the third course and it lacked the expected spices and was way undercooked. My companion chose the ceviche, empanada and sorbet and was happy with all three. The overall 3-star rating is primarily due to the portion size, just not enough for the $35 price. Now I realize that the portions are not their normal size but you should not leave hungry after three courses. Kismet is worth a second look. read more
