Wow! We've never been here, but our friends sent us dinner from here as a treat after having our baby. We had the queso and salsa, which was absolutely incredible. I don't know how in the world this place only has four stars! EVERYTHING that can be made from scratch is made from scratch and in house. The salsa is a surprising explosion of flavor. And the meat... I ordered the steak quesadillas, my friend ordered the burrito Blanco, and both were so tender and juicy impact with punch! I can't recommend this place enough. Came here with a group of friends. They ended up bringing our appetizers the same time as our food which was a little unfortunate. I got the combo plate with a shredded beef/pork tostada and chicken mole enchilada. I liked the mole which has a chocolate flavor to it. Everyone enjoyed their food. Portions were huge! Thei drinks are amazing, different types of margaritas, my favorite is the Cadillac margarita in the large size, but they have all different kinds of flavors as well as several different types of drinks. Ever had a pina colada with whipped cream on top, yes that's very dreamy and creamy. The staff and wait staff are fantastic. They're sweet and friendly and good at their job and even when the place is crowded they will still make sure that you get what you need. This wait staff bends over backwards for its customers. I love the Mexican themed decorations as well as the decorations for the American holidays. It is just a nice place to be whether you want to come in and have margaritas and an appetizer or a full meal You've got to stop by maracas on the South Hill or on Ruby behind the general store. We love Maracas! We discovered it shortly after moving to the South Hill in 2019. The kids love that they can get quesadillas or tacos, but can also get a burger or chicken fingers (which are really good). the fajita sampler is amazing and my Favorite. I don't usually like shrimp in food, but their shrimp is always really fresh and delicious. The good people who run this restaurant are always pleasant, especially Gina. They worked really hard keeping the restaurant going during the shutdown and even delivered to our home. tonight we went there for my daughter's birthday dinner. I mentioned to Gina that my teen specifying asked to go there for her birthday because it's her favorite restaurant. Gina surprised us with fried ice cream and an enthusiastic team singing happy birthday... with maracas. This place is what Mexican food is to velveta cheese. The drinks were pressed out of a bottle. We had Cadillac margaritas that were premixed and warm. I love this place. I grew up in Southern California (so I KNOW me some Mexican food) and also having Taken a trip to Mexico in feb and having the MOST DELICIOUS, authentic carne Asada in puerto Vallarta....haven't had anyone quite yet reach the caliber of flavor of the real Mexican made cuisine until now. Maracas seriously has the best carne asada in Spokane IMHO. My wife agrees (and not just cuz she has to, she really agrees ) the service was great, the food was great, everything was great. The little tables they have set up outside were super cute. The only thing that I would critique is the volume of music outside, it was quite loud. Other than that, the food was amazing and has been every time we have come here. The restaurant itself is a little small but still cozy, and like others have said, not good for super large parties of people probably. I did not see the owner there today but every other time I've been there the owner has been and he's a very kind, personable guy. We love this Mexican food. The Carne Asada burrito is my favorite. My husband enjoys the Carnitas tacos. We love the rice and beans. Service is always fast and very friendly. The prices seem a little bit high but not for the amount of food that you get and certainly not in this economy. The Carne Asada burrito I believe is $22 but it's huge it's always two meals for us. After a bit of searching, we found Maracas in our own backyard. The servers, most appear to be family members, are prompt and friendly. The place was packed but we got a booth immediately. I ordered a couple 24 oz. margaritas (Don Julio anejo) during the course of the evening and they were perfect!!! The food was the best Wash/Mex we've had so far and we bolted it like we were starving. The salsa was on the saucy side and delicious. The atmosphere is loud and friendly, a lot like a party, and there were lots of families and kids! We FINALLY found the Mexican joint for Friday nights. Glad we uber'ed after those drinks. Maracas is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Spokane! I've yet to try a dish I didn't completely devour. Their delicious food and exceptionally friendly staff elevate them above the other spots in the area like De Leon's and Rancho Viejo. Their menu is a little expensive, but if price is an issue for you, I recommend the Carne Asada burrito, which comes with TWO massive burritos for less than $20; very easy to share! Maracas is pretty much your standard issue sit-down Mexican joint, except they actually execute the all-too-familiar formula fairly well, unlike many other places of the same type. First off, service is always genuinely friendly - we've always been warmly greeted at the door, and the waitresses actually seem like they are happy to be there. They do a fine job all around. The place is bright, tidy, and doesn't feel tired, dated, or run-down. The food is solid, but I wouldn't say it's the best I've had. Sometimes a few details miss the mark: a burrito that's a bit too dry due to a lack of sauce on top (like tonight's carne asada burrito)... tacos that fall apart quickly... But overall it's been consistently pretty good, and that is a big achievement when other places are prone to massive failure occasionally and you never quite know what you'll get. If their food was just a bit better, I'd have to consider a 5 star rating. Also, I should note that prices are maybe bit on the high side at $15-$20 depending on the protein, but ingredient quality seems good overall so the price is more justifiable. If you're way up on the hill, this is a safe bet for a Mexican food fix; my wife and I have visited 5-6 times and have yet to be dissapointed. read more

I have absolutely no clue how this business managed to get almost 5 stars, I understand that I am as north of the border as it gets but wow. I don't want to rant too much because I would be here a while so let me summarize: First red flag - NO TORTAS , how the hell are you an "authentic" Mexican restaurant without tortas, but hey at least you have burgers I guess. Service- Very slow and incredibly bad. Not only did our waitress took forever to take our order, but she forgot our appetizer, and then our order. her excuse? "I'm sorry I couldn't read my handwriting" .......ok.... Also she charged us wrong when it came to get the check. Food: Pros- The Guac is pretty good i guess. And the alcoholic drinks are fine. Cons- The chips and red salsa that you get in the beginning are pretty generic, the worst part is the red salsa, it tastes like tomato soup, no heat whatsoever. I got the tacos, they are very very greasy, however the carne asada was good BUT the portions are pretty standard , most of the food seems to be overpriced for what it is (15 dollars for 3 tacos , beans and rice, you serious?) And lastly the churros were pretty dry. Overall aside from the guac, alcohol and part of the carne, there was nothing else that tasted even ok. Eating here isn't like going to a restaurant. It's like going over to a family members house for dinner. The owner, Gina, is an extremely energetic and loving lady. Part of the reason I go here is because of her and her daughter Paloma. My kids always have a great time and we never leave without a hug. Gina cares about the experience her customers have. You can taste that love in the food. Best Carne Asada and Pullo Fundido I've ever had. The margaritas are great and should probably come with a designated driver.
