10/10 recommend! We are vegans visiting from LA and found this spot from TikTok. DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The venue had a super cute and fun vibe. We got recommended a Chicago Handshake (shot/beer beverage) which was fun! Buffalo Cauliflower wings were fire! The pepperoni deep dish was FIRE! Triple chocolate brownie was also fire! I have been ordering from here over Uber eats. Really enjoyed the vegan deep dish pizza, can tell the quality of products used is very good. The crust is really tasty. I only wished they allowed options to add more toppings :) I would order a lot more frequently if I was able to. Nevertheless, still a great find, and glad to have this restaurant to deliver food. First time in Chicago and we HAD to try deep dish pizza, and unfortunately found this place through the Happy Cow app. We came to run the Chicago marathon and stayed in the city so the distance was already a big deal between our hotel and the restaurant but of course we traveled far to try their vegan pizza. Walk through the door and the guy who was working the bar doesn't acknowledge us at all but we give him the benefit of the doubt and continue to be polite to him. When he finally decides to take our order, it was still dismissive. Pizza took a long time but we were aware as it is a deep dish so we stayed just to be served the worst pizza I have ever had. The crust was extremely hard could not even cut it with a knife let alone comfortably bite it, the vegan sausage tastes awful, and the million pieces of spicy pepper were not tasty just burned. The portions are big so you get a lot for what you pay but that definitely shows the quality is not great. The server topped things off with making us feel like we were a bother to be there from start to end. Atmosphere and restroom were the same.. dirty. We found this gem on Yelp and even though we ordered carry out we were able to enjoy ourselves. This dope vegan spot has video games at the bar and random board games that are all around the restaurant. You can definitely come here with your friends after work and have a mini game night out. The bartender was also very friendly and helpful. We got the impossible and beyond burger and my partner said that was one of the best burgers he had. Buffalo cauliflower was great texture. Soft on the inside and crisp exterior. Ranch was foamy texture but decent taste maybe a touch overly acidic. Seitan chicken was too largely chunky. I generally enjoy their food, however, I have a few pointers that might be helpful: the marinara sauce needs to be more seasoned. Understandably, the goal is to make it similar to standard (non-vegan) deep dish, however, because of the difference in taste and texture of plant based food, a very tangy simple sauce actually is much too tart for their pizza. Yes the option exists to get no sauce, or some other sauce like pesto, etc, but then it would not be deep dish without the sauce. Also, there's just way too much tomato sauce in general. As others have said, the plain tomato sauce tastes straight from the can. It ruins a good thing. In addition, the food needs to be both tasty and attractive in appearance. Sometimes the food is only tasty and not lovingly made. A little attention to this would go a long way. Their desserts are great and portions for desserts and sandwiches are generous. read more

My husband's and my favorite place place to order vegan! We've tried the following: Gyro - both our personal favorites. The sliced seitan does a great imitation and overall the gyro is so flavorful. It comes with a side of fries which are warm and slightly crispy even by the time they deliver. BBQ Cheddar Burger - my husband's second favorite. He also gets the sweet potato fries (extra charge) as his side and they add a LOT so I end up stealing a bunch. :) Deep dish pizza traditional - also my husband's second favorite tied with the burger. It helps satisfy his pizza cravings - he recently turned vegan. Super flavorful and one of our fav vegan pizzas and almost ALL their desserts! We tried the caramel apple spice, the mega cookie mud pie, oreo, parent trap, funfetti, and more. my favorite is probably the parent trap or mega mud! read more

One of the hardest things about being vegan is missing out on local delicacies when traveling. Everything on Kitchen 17's menu is vegan, and it all sounded delicious. My partner and I ordered the veggie deep dish. The vegan version of deep dish was tasty in its own right. One thing that all vegan pizza lacks is the stringiness of the cheese, which isn't anyone's fault, but don't go expecting that quintessential cheese pull you get with original deep dish. Kitchen 17's sauce was really flavorful and the crust was the perfect crispiness to keep everything from sliding off. The atmosphere at Kitchen 17 is where it looses one star. We were a bit confused coming in, there was a host stand at the entrance but there were no signs directing us to seat ourselves or where to place our order. No one was on the floor to greet us. We figured out that we had to order at the window and the food would be brought out to us. There was also a blocked off area where a bunch of storage items were visible, which may indicate they're in a state of transition. Overall the service was friendly, the food was delicious, and I would for sure visit again next time I'm in Chicago. read more

Since this was our first time in Chicago, we ordered the Fully Loaded deep dish pizza ($31 plus tax), which was more than enough for two of us. I absolutely loved this place. I was visiting Chicago for a trade show with my coworkers, one of whom is entirely plant-based, and I myself am vegetarian. The other two eat meat but were happy to go vegan for the day. The place is so quirky. The lighting, the setup, the board games, the ambiance is there to make you feel a little bit off kilter in the best way. Even the overhead playlist was such an adventure. We were helped by Jennie, who is an owner/founder of the restaurant and she was fantastic. She was so friendly and she was telling us so many fun stories about going plant-based and opening the restaurant, she was so kind and sweet and entertaining. Seriously I just wanted to have her sit down and chat with us the whole time. The food was phenomenal. The flavors were great, the textures were lovely. We got the pepperoni deep dish - It was so good! We also got the cauliflower wings which weren't to my taste, but my coworkers love buffalo and they loved the flavor (I wasn't expecting to like them since I'm not a buffalo sauce fan). The spinach artichoke dip was my favorite. It was seriously so phenomenal. The flavor, the creaminess, I don't know what it was made of but it was so delicious. Jennie talked to us for a while about the in-house vegan cheeses and vegan dairy, and we were comparing various store-bought vegan dairies... It was awesome, she had a lot of great insight and as I said she was a very fun storyteller so we were just thoroughly engrossed with her. It is such a quirky funky little restaurant. The lighting is a little weird the decor is even weirder, and the music playlist is completely confounding in such a fun way. Such a great spot! I ate here with my boyfriend and a friend late on a Friday night. We sat ourselves and grabbed water from a dispenser. My boyfriend and I joke that the best vegan spots always serve room-temperature water! We ordered a deep dish cheese to share and still left absolutely stuffed. My boyfriend is vegan and had never visited Chicago, but I didn't want him to miss out on the deep dish experience. I was skeptical of the idea because I usually don't like vegan cheese substitutes, wow was I wrong! The pizza was fantastic. You can taste the difference because the texture is obviously a bit different but honestly it was still a gooey cheesy dream. It's a dark bar with Bud ads on the table (and it's somewhat reminiscent of the former Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis, if that means anything to you). By the way, the alleged story behind their name is that they had 17 seats in their original location, so they named it Kitchen 17. I opted for the Philly cheesesteak & I should've read the description prior to ordering because for one I didn't know it was made with seitan & for two I didn't know they put ranch atop the dish. While I do enjoy seitan (the seitan from Chicago diner is the best) this seitan tasted more like gyro meat & the ranch was just weird. I have to mention that cheese on a vegetarian dish totally makes it but this cheese was plain. The fries were fried to perfection I must add.
