A Red Bank must try restaurant....Kitchen Tex-Mex has outstanding authentic Mexican food. Ample seating can accommodate a lot of guests so I wouldn't estimate you could always get a table. The menu is extensive so there are a lot of options and undoubtedly something for everyone. Guacamole and chips were fresh, when eating the salsa the green one is rather spicy so keep that in mind (we love spicy so it was perfect). Tacos as an option is great because you can get them all the same or mix it up and order fish, pork, shredded pork and or sausage. The meat is slow cooked and accompanied by melted cheese, onions, and cilantro.....the perfect combination to dance on your Palate. The fish taco was lightly breaded chunks of fish and was not in the slightest bit greasy. I would highly recommend you order a horchata drink....it's a non-alcoholic, sweet, and refreshing drink. Horchata is made by blending white rice and cinnamon sticks in water and letting them soak overnight. After the rice and cinnamon are discarded, the remaining liquid is then flavored with vanilla, sugar, and ground cinnamon.....a must try and a drink you will crave all the time. read more

I heard good things about this place from Instagram so I figured I'd give it a shot. I grabbed a couple friends and headed to Red Bank. We all had great meals, the food was super flavorful and the servers were very welcoming. It was a great stop for authentic Mexican cuisine. Kitchen Tex-Mex has excellent Mexican food (and also an all-day breakfast menu, because why not)! The tortilla chips and salsa are so delicious that it's hard not to fill up on them. Other favorites include the guacamole and vegetable fajitas. I've also had a salad before from here which was super fresh and lovely, especially with some avocado. It was like a day trip to Mexico. Cute place in the heart of Red Bank. Service was friendly and attentive. Let me start by saying I love fact that they serve hard shell tacos! Not many Mexican places do these days. The shells were very fresh and the steak meat was seasoned well and very tender. I also tried the chicken tacos and they were very good as well. The complimentary chips and salsa were excellent. I especially loved the green tomatillo variety. Spicy but not overwhelming. I will be sure to revisit this establishment for dinner. I've ordered from Carlos o'conners many times and enjoyed the food. With the name changing we decided to still give it a try assuming the food is probably still good...well we were WRONG! This was the worst Mexican I had in a long time. We ordered the beef and chicken empanadas. The beef tasted like old El Paso seasoning and the chicken was literally boiled chicken and that's it. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and it was awful... I couldn't even eat it. The chimichanga was sooo greasy it was sitting in oil. The inside was more boiled chicken.. no seasoning or sauce. The chicken was literally plain boiled chicken and it was wrapped with a little lettuce and tomato. My husband made the mistake of getting chicken tacos that included the same plain boiled chicken. Both dinners came with rice and beans... we ordered retried beans and got a side of Pinto beans. The rice had no flavor and was bright orange. The coloring was just off esp since it had no flavor. The good news is that the new owners, chef, and staff are presenting quality and quantity Mexican food at reasonable prices. It is a BYOB, so right off you are saving money. They have kept the funky ambiance of Carlos. The location is in the heart of "hip" city, a short walk to shows at the Count Basie Theatre. Open the door to Mexican knick knacks, colorful tablecloths and mariachi music on the stereo. The menu presents a small selection of gringo basics like quesadillas, fajitas and enchiladas. The servers were pleasant and attentive. But the food.... how is it that Mexican food could be made completely devoid of flavor. Literally everything - from the salsa to the main courses, even the rice and beans - was tasteless? The portions are generous so we walked out satiated.... in much the same way we would have been satiated if we had eaten a large plate of styrofoam topped with boiled chicken. Bottom line. It wasn't completely terrible. Probably a good place to go if you have small children in tow and are looking for something neutral, inoffensive and cheap plus lots of crayons. Searched some area reviews. Next time we come to Red Bank we will head to the west side. Tino's Mexican Kitchen with fire and wood smoke, a sizzling rotisserie turning out tender roast chicken licked by flame and soft tortillas? Felt like having Mexican food last night. Went into RedBank to go to Juanitos, but even though it was early, there was a long wait due to people going to the Count Basie. Looked on line quickly & found 'Mariachi' in the spot that use to be Carlos O'Conner's. Our lucky night. They brought salsa & warm chips to the table & it was so fresh tasting. My husband then had the enchiladas & I had the black bean burrito (you choose the meat), both served with a side of rice and your choice of refried beans or black beans.
