Great Food, great atmosphere but the service is lacking. The waitresses seem to think they are doing you a favor buy serving you.... The breakfast burrito is ENORMOUS and delicious. Comfort food done right. I've never had bad service here--although the first time I came the kitchen forgot to put the chicken on my chicken sandwich, which was hilarious but slightly off-putting. Still, once I finally got my meal in its entirety, I enjoyed myself enough to come back, and I still stop in when I can. I'm a brunch fiend, and the wait here is never too long, the prices aren't bad, and I always feel full and happy when I leave. Is it spectacular? overrated. i took a co-worker there for breakfast. Something i'd absorbed on food network kept me curious about the place so i suggested it. The place is cute and has nice sidewalk seating. sidewalk seating that actually makes sense (i.e. not on a loud, busy street). decor was cute inside. That's about it! The service wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Answers weren't much more than a couple words and I had the feeling i was bothering the guy. I wasn't impressed with the menu. I got the breakfast burrito - it was really dry and there were more eggs than anything. It didn't have great flavor. The potatoes were great, though. I ate all my potatoes! The prices were average. Just a nice little brunch place. Lots of interesting retro crap to look at, very nice wait staff, and the owners are real cool. Food is quite good, and the bloody marys are kickin'. Great little spot for brunch or lunch. The glammed-up record albums on the walls are a nice touch, along with the '50s formica tables and sidewalk seating with colorful exposed bulbs. My friend and I enjoyed the brunch special (bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Mary's and candied bacon for 2), plus we ordered the breakfast tacos as well. The spicy cornbread hash is yummy! I was really pleased with the bottomless drinks. Not gonna lie, I was expecting weak drinks in short glasses with sporadic refills. Nope, our Mimosas were served in pint glasses, and our super-nice server brought refills before we were even finished with the ones in front of us. And they kept coming. And coming. The couple next to us ordered Bloodies...also served in pint glasses with an impressive garnish and visible chunks of deliciousness floating around. If you love a Bloody as much as I do, you know what I'm talking about. Don't be discouraged if you walk in and can't find a table. There is a second dining room in the back, along with a back patio. The music was great, too. A nice variety of jams, including Hugo's old-timey version of "99 Problems." Everything about our experience was fabu, especially the service. I love the look and feel of this place, a collage of all things vintage, mixed in with modern décor - fun and lively and lots of color. The entire restaurant is pretty cute, and the service has always been fast and friendly. It's comfort diner food with a unique twist. Stay away from some of the items if you're watching the waistline (i.e. pot pie, fried chicken and waffles), but their tuna melt is delish, along with different brunch menu items like eggs and chilaquiles...yum! Beat the weekend brunch craziness by going in early or later instead of during the absolute madhouse which is Roscoe Village Brunch stroller nightmare. Love this place but I normally can't stand fighting all the breeders and their broods that take over the place during the day. ive been here three times, and it's just gotten better and better. first i had the green eggs and ham - super yummy (maybe not enough food... don't judge me, i'm hungover alot.) then i had the pesto veggie something omelet - really yummy, and lots of different kinds of veggies that i don't normally have the luxury of consuming. This joint is just like a greasy spoon of by-gone days, where you'd pay around $1.99 for a crummy breakfast on the road; and you weren't surprised about quality. Only difference is the average breakfast is more than $10. Eggs hard; not soft as ordered; coffee weak ($2.99) and waitress didn't come round for a refill; home fries tried hard to be different shoes string style-crap. Miserly portions; service was indifferent. Almost forgot. The half-hearted attempt to connect with 60's pop culture using crummy versions of original rock concert posters is way to obvious. It started off well when I sat down at the counter as I was promptly given water and coffee by one of the bussers. The server Carla(?), not sure because she never told me her name I just overheard it, gave me a menu as was taking my order quickly. Then, things started going south. I saw my completed order, the candied BLT, sitting in the window while Carla was rolling napkins and utensils. After several minutes of her ignoring multiple food items in the food window she brings my food over and, sure enough, it's cold and a bit soggy now. I waited a saintly 15 minutes with Carla continuously ignoring me (either looking at the computer screen where she enters orders or her staring at the food window) until I finally said something to get her attention. Normally, you'd think a server would ask you how everything is going after you have your food for a few minutes, but not this server. I took notice that she also mostly ignored her other tables as well. I was so frustrated with her lack of attention that even after she offered to get me something else, after lying and saying she didn't leave the food out in the window, I decided to just leave. I've been here several times and it's always the same, good food but all of their servers seem to be lacking in experience and common sense. You think paying attention to your guests would be a given, but then you'd be wrong. read more

Where do I start? I went in for a quick bite on a Monday around 1. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the service was horrible and the food took forever to come out. I had the coconut french toast, which was delicious. I ordered a side of the home fries, which utterly disappointed me. I love potatoes, but these must have been cooked the day before and shoved in a microwave. They were extremely hard and oddly heated. My husband had the breakfast burrito, which was mediocre. I didn't think it was possible even, but it was filled with too many vegetables, and not enough eggs. There was a server at the breakfast bar that kept talking extremely loud to another co worker sitting at the bar about her auditions and tranny clubs and how she looked like a tranny. I'm not particularly fond of people making fun of transgender people over a meal. We waited for about ten minutes after we finished before asking the server behind the bar if she could get our server, to which she responded that she could help us. It was frustrating that the whole time we were sitting there, she could have/should have been helping us, but was too engaged in herself and her conversation to pay attention to one of the only tables in the restaurant. I could have gone to the store brought a piece of chicken breast and box of Shake & Bake it would have tasted better. The portions are relatively smaller than I thought. I live in Roscoe Village and went to Kitsch'n for the first time a few weeks ago. I was not impressed. The food is super bland, no flavor at all. All the food just tasted odd. Not sure how you can make chicken and waffles, breakfast potatoes, and even bacon taste bad...but they did. I've eaten there about 8 times and only during one of those times was the food not good. Since it was 74 degrees out, I sat on the Kitsch'n's back porch today, reading and listening to "The Joker" playing on the sound system overhead. Had the basil pesto and veggie omelet and multiple cups of Intelligentsia coffee -- apparently it's a special blend exclusive to the restaurant. Also one of the nicest waitresses in the history of waiting. Jealous? You should be. It's a very cozy vintage style cafe which is perfect for Sunday brunch. I like that they provide variety of dishes to the brunch menu - e.g. crab cake Benedict (btw, it's very good. highly recommend this) and basil pesto and veggie omelet, just to name a couple. The food is cooked very well and tasted very good. The portion is not too big but definitely enough to fill you up. The only complaint I have is the coffee. It tasted water down. read more

After living just down the street from Kitsch'n on Roscoe for more than a year and a half, I kind of feel bad for not having gone more than a couple of times. I went yesterday and had a very enjoyable experience. I had a delicious Ham and Cheddar Omelet and uhm, 2 mimosas. The mimosas are only $4, and while they are kind of small, they are mostly champagne which is the whole point really, right? My friends had the Falafel Pita Sandwich and the Wow Chili respectively. I didn't taste either one of them but both looked tasty, and my friends spoke highly of their meals. We were seated within a couple of minutes in the sunny back patio after sort of walking through the kitchen, which I guess is a good thing. Our waiter Josh was very pleasant and we had coffee immediately upon being seated. I hope to go back soon. read more

Until yesterday, I would have given Kitsch'n a 4....but i called to place an order for carry-out yesterday and they told me, "No." They said they weren't taking any carry-out orders for at least 20 min so the kitchen could catch up...what? Bummer. read more
