I came here a while ago since I was curious about what a cat cafe would be like in San Francisco. Although we were interested in seeing the cats, we realized that you had to book beforehand in order to go inside the room to play with them. However, there are glass windows between the cafe section and the cat section so you can watch the cats play while you enjoy your drink. We ordered the hot chocolate, which was on the pricier side but was pretty good! I liked the presentation of the drink, and the huge marshmallow that they put in it was tasty. The hot chocolate itself was rich and creamy, so I would definitely recommend getting this drink when you come. I think this would be a nice place to play with some cats while enjoying your drink, but just make sure to make reservations beforehand if you want to meet the cats! read more

To start off this review. I've been here a good amount of times. The current location and the previous location in the city. Pros: This place is an amazing place to spend an hour when you're looking to pet some cats. Especially if you can't adopt for now you'll get some experience being around a cat. This is the perfect place increase your dopamine levels if you love cats. This place always a good vibe not just the aesthetic, but also the chill music that is always played. Cons: This new location doesn't have a cafe anymore and also they don't really serve tea anymore, which I was disappointed about, but I love this place regardless. They changed the tea to a drink fridge with many different drink options, which was good. I would say the prices ($28/hr) and it may deter others, but I think it's justified. With the cost of being in SF and also with what's going on in the world in general. Overall I think this place is worth a try or two if you really want to just hang around cats and show some love. Could be worth a visit if you walk in with the expectation that depending on the time/day, the cats may not be very interactive at all. I came here yesterday at 1pm and only one cat was really interested in playing (and of course, it was difficult to get alone time with this cat since all the other guests gravitated towards him as well). The rest slept or walked around with no interest in interacting with visitors. This translated to a lot of watching and petting sleeping cats. The area itself is quite spacious and well-kept; the cats seemed healthy and well-cared for. As other reviewers have mentioned, the current "cafe" situation is that you are given one free drink of your choice (sparkling water, teas) from the fridge, but there is otherwise no option to order beverages/food items. Overall, I do not think I'd visit again - a lot of $ to pay to sit and watch cats. However, I'm not going to penalize KitTea for factors out of their control and again, the cats seemed well-taken care of. My final recommendation is to please make reservations online ahead of time! Kittea is an enjoyable first experience at a cat cafe, because you are surrounded by droves of cute cats and paying for a great cause! However, this review is comparing Kittea to other cat cafe experiences in LA and SF including Crumbs & Whiskers and the old Kittea Cafe in Hayes Valley. This Mission District location unfortunately fell short of expectations. When our group arrived at 2pm, the cats were almost all sleeping and didn't want to be disturbed. The ones that were awake didn't want to be pet and avoided people. Obviously we respected the cats and gave them their space, but it was a bummer to just watch them for an hour and not get the chance to play with them. At other cat cafes I've attended, the staff have helped you engage with the cats by handing you toys, placing cats in beds directly on your lap, and even taking pictures for you. There was no type of facilitation like this at Kittea so the majority of us just sat and watched the cats. It was definitely a let down from the expectation that the cats would want to play with you, lay on your lap, climb on your back, or even be interested in approaching you. A nice touch is that you can select a complimentary sparkling water beverage from the fridge before or after your visit. However, comparing this to other cat cafes, this was also ultimately a let down since the "cafe element" was only a fridge. You are not able to order food, pastries, drinks, or coffees. The staff were very friendly, kind people and the entrance of the business also doubles as a cute gift shop area, separating the entrance from the cat lounge. So if you don't have reservations for a cat hangout I would still recommend checking out this spot if you wanted to browse or buy gifts for any cat lovers in your life. Lastly, I was extremely surprised by the intensely strong stink from the litter boxes. Immediately when entering Kittea you are hit with a stench that continues to get worse as you venture further in. I'm not sure how they mask the smell at the other cat cafes, but it got so overwhelming at the end of our stay that I wanted to leave. Overall, because we got to pet and spend time with these lovely cats, of course it was a nice experience. But I was left with a feeling of disappointment after spending $30/each on multiple tickets bringing my friends here, since they were barely able to play or cuddle with the cats. read more

This place was fun, we took a friend her for a surprise during a recent trip down to the city. She is a cat lover and truly loved every minute she spent inside with the cats. I was disappointed at first as I thought that this place served food, but apparently they stopped during COVID, and then never started again. It's highly recommended to make a reservation because when we got here we heard that all the spots were filled. 2. Yes, they do have a 12 hour cancellation policy for a full refund. 8 hour reschedule policy in place. 5. $20 on weekdays; $25 weekends/holidays: $30+ for special events like yoga/movie night with cats. It's reasonable for a food cause! 6. They have resident special needs cats that live there, and there are a few that can be adopted. 7. Complimentary tea with your cat visit. 8. We bought a cute pen and beanie that says Caturday 9. Staff here is all very friendly. 10. PARENTS: This place is recommend for kids that are 9 years old and up. It's on their website. So please don't be that A-hole parent that brings in your kid that's under that age, especially if you know your kids have HIGH energy. 11. We had a great time. Con: 1. the cats were just so lovely!!! They're very friendly and well-trained and they clearly love it here and spending time with people. The white kitten was very playful and frisky the whole time! One of them climbed on my back. I booked an hour session in the afternoon and it was worth it! if you want to adopt these cats please consider it :) The only issues I have was that their nails were pretty sharp, I got (gently) scratched twice by accident and I think it should be trimmed so no one gets hurt, including the cats. Also, in the back, I could smell their potties and there was litter on the floor and it was kind of unpleasant trying to pet the cats in the back. airspray could have been used and vacuuming. read more

Stumbled a pon this place while wandering around san fran. It was busy at the time so we didn't go in. This time it wasn't too busy so we got in for a half hour session with the cats! It was such a cool experience and really brightened my rough starting day. 3 of the long haired cats really seemed to like me and 2 of them sat on my lap. On stayed for most of my session and napped on my lap. I wish I could've adopted it but couldn't in my current situation. The owner was so nice as well. Ok. First of all, I love cats. I'm guessing if you're considering checking out KitTea, you do too! Because of covid, please don't expect tea. But you can expect sparkling water. And some happy cat times. I appreciated that they limited the number of people inside because the area with the cats is small-ish. And as cats do, many of them were just sleeping. The ones that were awake loved to play with wands and were into getting pet. I also bonded with a sweet baby boy named Sonic! The staff was very helpful in letting you know what the likes and dislikes were of whatever particular cat you were hanging out with. I strongly support this business because they are giving these cats a home and some are up for adoption. Overall I'm very happy that there is a cat cafe in SF. It's a cute place and it's $25 for 55 minutes of cat petting and unlimited hot tea. What is disappointing is that most of the cats are asleep by the afternoon so they're hiding away in their boxes. I'd recommend that if you go, to book at the first session in the morning when they will probably be the most awake. For the first 30 minutes of the session all the cats were just sleeping. Later one of the workers came in and some of the cats woke up excited to see him. He also did some demonstrations like he would bend over and the cat would jump on his back and just lie there, then open it up to others for the cat to jump onto. That made it better. I've been to a cat cafe in Korea and though it smelled a bit and a little less clean, they'd also give you the option to buy treats to feed them then all the cats would gather around you. I was in San Fransisco in search of something therapeutic. It had been a long week at work and found myself looking at themed cafes. This Cat Cafe popped up and I am very thankful it did. You pay $20 for an hour of direct contact with cats both adoptable and not along with bottomless teas of which there are 3 to choose from. They do have an extensive menu with snacks and other flavored specialty teas. I stuck with the 3 teas and had myself a good time. It's nice because you being in the room helps socialize some cats that are to be adopted. The people that work here are all clearly very passionate about this place, which makes it all the more warm and friendly. Overall; it's a wonderful cause and in the end, was very therapeutic. Absolutely the best experience EVER! Kudos to whoever is handling the marketing for KitTea. I was served an ad on Facebook about KitTea, and scrolled past it at first. Luckily, I was served it again and paid a little more attention. A cat cafe in San Francisco?! YES! We made reservations for the next day. (Note: we visited on a weekday. I can imagine it being pretty busy on a weekend.) During our time, there were four other people plus the cat handler, Camille. First of all - all of the cats are absolutely WONDERFUL! I love the fact that there are kittens as well as adult cats. My husband and Blink had quite the connection! The cats are VERY well cared for, and KitTea is spotless. They have SO much space to sleep, play, and walk around. I was thoroughly impressed. The custom play areas on the walls and the hanging cat chair are phenomenal. So creative! And I can't say enough wonderful things about Camille. She had a story about each of the cats. The cats are also available for adoption; most are available in pairs. Wanted to do something special with my Granddaughter and Daughter. Thought KitTea would be that perfect thing. My Granddaughter was so very excited. What a giant let down!! After 15 minutes my Granddaughter was in tears and wanted to leave. I felt horrible. The cats were obviously "over pet" and annoyed by "so many people" and too much attention. They really just wanted to be left alone. We even tried to play with the cats using the fishing line cat toys...not one cat showed interest. They seemed "over it!" At one point I went to the rest room and found two of the friendliest cats in that back room. The cost of $25 pp was just simply not worth it. Perhaps some younger cats would have been more tolerant or possibly visiting earlier in the day? 3 pm was not a good time and too many people in a small place. This is definitely a once and done and I don't recommend. And...just for the record...those reviews who raved about "complimentary" beverages??? Srsly? I think the steep price of admission kind of covered the drink!! read more

"This cat cafe is better than Disneyland" -- my 14 year old brother Okay I'm probably extremely biased because I'm a HUGE cat lover, but I loooove this place T_T First of all, the cats are all so adorable. Some of them are especially playful and will jump on your back if you're bent over enough :') others are sleepier and lazier but still so endearing nonetheless. I'd recommend coming during the earliest slot available so that they're not tired from playing with prior guests. The most recent time I visited, I came at 11am (the earliest slot for weekdays) on a Monday and the cats were definitely more active than the previous time I visited, which was in the afternoon. Secondly, the ambience is so soothing and peaceful. It has such a zen vibe, maybe cause they serve Japanese teas LOL. But i swear the whole atmosphere makes you feel calmed. If I could spend an entire day here I would. With your admission ($20 on weekday and $25 on weekend for ~1 hr) you get unlimited tea from a choice for four different kinds. But tbh I was so distracted by playing with the cats that I pretty much just abandoned my tea after 10 minutes. The employees are also really nice, and you can tell they care a lot about the cats. The cafe overall also has a really cute aesthetic! There are cat-themed decorations everywhere. The bathroom also has a butt washing feature :3 Parking is kind of a pain cause it's SF. I discovered Kit Tea, after a friend mine posted a clip to their Instagram story about it. I finally got the chance to go visit today. I like how all the cats were really friendly, cute, and adorable. One the cats (pictured below) kind of "chose me" and stayed with me for most of the visit. I also like how they offer complimentary drink and allow me to bring my own lunch (purchased elsewhere) in with me. It was nice, enjoying a good lunch and hanging out with cats for an hour. I went to a cat cafe back when I lived in LA, and since I moved to the Bay Area have been itching to try KitTea after scrolling past some absolutely adorable Instagram photos. Anyway, I'm happy to say that it absolutely lived up to my expectations. I've only ever owned dogs, so I always feel a bit tentative whenever I go to pet a cat because I'm not sure if they'll try to scratch me, but I didn't have a problem with that at all here because the cats were super friendly! There were two kittens there (around three months old) who were very fun-loving, and even some of the older cats wanted to play. I went around 2:00pm, though, and towards the end of my visit (around 2:40-ish) a lot of them wanted to nap, so keep in mind that a visit earlier in the day might be more optimal. Space was clean, staff was very polite and helpful, complimentary drinks were yum, and cats were cute! The only con I can think of is that $25 is a bit steep for an hour of petting cats in my opinion, but I still had a great time. read more

All of them are very human friendly and don't seem bothered by all of those there during your session. The staff are also very helpful and help facilitate a good time. In the middle / towards the end of your session the staff will spread out some treats for all the cats and they all come out of napping. PRO TIP: Don't go in an afternoon time zone because that's when they nap. I would try to go in the morning or latest as you can so that the cats are awake and roaming. Also, *bring socks*. You also get a free beverage of your choice to drink during or after, it's up to you. If you're not drinking the beverage, you're required to keep your masks on during the session right now. I've only been to one other cat café, but I thought that KitTea did an excellent job. They have an informative website and it was easy to book our appointment online. We did the "Caturday Morning Cartoons," which they only offer on select Saturdays. We got to play with the cats from 9 AM to 10 AM. Since we were the first group of the day, the cats were energetic and excited to see us. In addition to the four types of unlimited tea, we also got unlimited cereal and they played vintage cartoons on a large screen for us. The cat room was large and comfortable, with many places for humans to sit and lounge. I enjoyed having the cartoons playing in the background. It was nice to have something else to look at. I liked the size of our group and it felt like there were plenty of cats to go around. I don't have much experience with cats, so sometimes they scare me. However, these cats were really well-behaved. One did jump onto my husband's head, but I'm pretty sure he was asking for it. :-) They have a mix of resident cats who live there full-time and several cats who are up for adoption. In the cat room there are books with each cat's picture and biography. Before you enter the cat room, you will need to use hand sanitizer and remove your shoes (so remember to wear cute socks!). You can either leave your stuff in the lobby or in a cubby in the cat room (although the cats can reach these). There is a bathroom inside the cat room that has a Japanese toilet, which is pretty neat if you've never seen one before. It's such a bizarre set up. I would not go back. I reserved in advance and the tickets were $28 dollars. Also, while booking they force you to put in a tip. It's egregious and outrageous to ask for a tip during self service check out and a service that was not received yet. (It does not ask for a donation for the cats. It is clearly a "tip") When we got to the place other guests walked in and were quoted a price of $14. Which is not OK!!!! I confirm this with the walk-in guest. The cats don't have enough space to play with the toys provided. Upon leaving you are pressured into signing up for repeat customer program to get a discount on future visits. I'm not coming back. Overpriced visit to attempt to play with cats who are overwhelmed by the tons of people in their face all day. Brought my 9 yr old and both of us got nipped at a few times despite trying to be so gentle and careful not to invade the cats' space when sleeping. The group of people in the room w/the cats was way too big. We left early cause it was clear the cats didn't want people there. Also not sure what the "cafe" part of this was. Super cuteeeeeee! I made a reservation for Saturday 1pm. We got to the cafe a few mins before our reservation, and there was already a good number of people waiting for the 1pm slot. They let groups in and out one at a time, so even if you get there early, you won't be able to go in until the previous group is out. While you're waiting for your reservation, you can order some tea/snacks or shop in their mini store. Once you're inside the area with cats (no shoes allowed btw), there are four different kinds of tea (unlimited refills that you pour yourself). this place is amazing if your in the city and wants to hang out with cats. a lot of the cats don't really care who you are and will not rub/hang out with you (at least when i went) but there are plenty to pet and play with -- note it also depends on what cats are there that day. You could also adopt some of the kitty. We went inside and played with the cats, but had to remind ourselves these living beings are not props or toys. They have desires and needs including downtime. We visited Kittea on a Monday afternoon right when they opened at 1. Due to our lack of planning, we could not get a reservation, but we got there about 5 minutes before they opened to see if there were walk in spots, and we luckily got the last two! I would definitely recommend going as soon as they open if you also could not get a reservation, since they tell you about all the available times during the rest of the day if you cannot get in at that time. It also seemed to be a good time to go as the cats were pretty active and friendly when they opened! You also get a free prepackaged drink with your ticket, which ranges from apple juice, to matcha drinks, to sparkling juices and waters. It was our first time here and a lot of cats were napping when we got here, if this happens to you just gotta be gentle and respectful of the cats, most of them didn't mind being pet while asleep.
