We decided to try this place out early on a Sunday morning. We had an excellent breakfast in a charming little eatery. We were greeted right away by a friendly and fun person. Randy ordered his mocha, which he really liked, while we were deciding on what to order. I ordered the bacon cheddar scrambled: bacon, eggs, tomato, cheddar and avocado slices on top. It came with an English muffin and potatoes, too. It was perfect and would definitely feed two people. Randy ate most of my potatoes and added a third of my eggs to his sandwich. He ordered the Mt Ventoux breakfast sandwich on a croissant and really liked it but said that adding my eggs to it made it even better. Our home is being fumigated so we came up to a friend's apartment for the weekend in San Francisco. This place was in walking distance so despite the bicycle theme, we walked over. Glad we did it. It's a good place for a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and potatoes and good espresso drinks. Although we did not try it, I am sure their bacon is probably pretty good as well. The eggs came nice and fluffy, the toast is a relatively thick-sliced sourdough, and already buttered, and the potatoes were cooked to the point where they are soft inside and firm outside and nicely salted (prepped elsewhere?). They have a few outside tables, but I wanted to sit inside so we did. You walk up to the counter and place your order and pay and they give you a little number to put on your table. The food is brought to you at the table and when you have finished, you bus your table. This got me thinking about tipping. In this context 15% or 20% is probably inappropriate. First, they don't show you an itemized bill so you can't even see whether you're being asked to tip on the tax (which tip on tax, do you tip the IRS?). Then, since what service you receive is obviously less than what you receive at a full service restaurant with similar prices that's another point. Finally, we now have Living wage laws that apply to restaurant workers and the point of tipping was because in the old days serving people were not even paid a wage, and then their minimum wage was something like only 20% of the actual minimum wage. You'll have to make your own decision, but I'm going to start thinking about this a little hard harder and be more discerning. In addition to our eggs and cappuccino and Cortado (a great Cortado I might add) we got one of the cinnamon raisin pecan rolls to go. I look forward to coming back with our friends who live nearby. Also, there is a neighborhood grocery store with a nice selection next door so you can pick something up for a picnic in the park if you want. read more

I thought for sure I'd feel out of place here since I can't even remember the last time I was on a bicycle. I mean the non-stationary kind where I had to wear a styrofoam helmet with orange fluorescent tape. It consisted of a grilled spinach tortilla stuffed with avocado, black beans, mushrooms, red onion, cucumber, tomato, spinach leaves, and hummus. Accompanied by tortilla chips and fresh salsa, it was fairly healthy and pretty tasty (Photo 3). After a visit to the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park we were seeking a casual lunch spot. We drove the short distance to Velo Rouge Care close by, just a block off Fulton Street (on McCallister Street). We entered the small-ish shop and read the menu (on the wall). There are painting and pictures of bicycles throughout the cafe. - other patrons were there enjoying a hot beverage or a bite to eat. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict - traditional but with Acadaco, served with house potatoes (or a green salad). I went with the Coppi Turkey Sandwich. In a short period of time the server brought the food to us as we sat on a bar facing the street. My sandwich was tasty - Turkey with Jack Cheese, Cranberry Sauce and Spinach. It was served with a substantial side salad (which was enough for a meal, honestly). Both of us enjoyed our meal and said we would definitely return here. Prices were reasonable for The City and its location is close enough to Golden Gate Park. We did find parking just across from the Cafe on McCallister. Had lunch at this cafe close to Golden Gate Park after going for a walk around it. If you like pretty small cafes with simple menus, this is one. The Velo Rouge has a name that sounds fancy, but it's actually pretty casual or at least feels that way. Bad thing is it's only open for breakfast and lunch. Prices are also not cheap but they're not crazy though. After walking around the park we were hungry. It's not much more of a walk to get here from the museums. The only thing is go early enough because they are only open at breakfast and lunch unfortunately. Has a pretty typical menu for a cafe. There's lighter options. It's about $12 for a sandwich or basic entree. We each got the Veggie Wrap. Pretty much about the only good vegan choice. This has avocados, black beans, hummus, mixed greens, mushrooms, and red onions, all on a toasted spinach tortilla, and served with chips and salsa. Great food even with the limited operating hours. This place is very shi shi and I have had some terrible experiences there. Just yesterday the barista Molly was really racist towards me and I had to tell her off. It was so obvious she was treating me differently than other people and she was so rude about it. The food was awful too I had to throw it out I couldn't even eat it. I want a refund. They've been equally rude to guests I've brought there as well. The place is unorganized and isn't run well considering the foot traffic they get. Some people like that, but if you are in a hurry for your coffee, I recommend you don't come here. Also if you are black, avoid Molly the barista, she's terrible to black people and if you're light skinned she really doesn't know what to do. I swear to god I had to call her out in front of the whole cafe, and it was awful. But, the way I was being treated was equally awful and I had to defend myself. I'm am NEVER going here again. Like I said, I've seen them treat my guests this way but gave them the benefit of the doubt and when it happened directly to me yesterday I freaked out. It was so rude. You would think San Francisco would be beyond this, but it's not. Anyway, I don't recommend this place at all. Like I said the food was disgusting I didn't even eat my meal, and my coffee tasted like hot chocolate not a mocha so maybe she didn't even make it right and maybe it was on purpose. This bicycle themed cafe is fantastic! you can get a latte for just 5.75$, that's pretty darn good this day and age. they have PBJ for the kids as well as lots of other cool stuff to order. the staff is friendly and they have a restroom you can use! the latte comes with one of those classic leaf foams and they even have soymilk. read more

Velo Rouge is a neat little cafe perfect for a bicycle ride pit stop. They have bicycle racks outside and is on Arguello, which is a busy bicycle thoroughfare to the Presidio from Golden Gate Park. There was a RAT inside the restaurant just roaming around. It was absolutely disgusting. The staff did nothing at all, just stared at us while saying "there is a RAT right there!" I have been coming to this restaurant for 1 year already and have never seen a rat. It has been dirty inside and outside however the food seemed okay. It would have been nice to be offered a refund or anything but the staff and no response or reaction. It was as if the rats are always there!
